Great for a quick pit stop when out and about. There are dozens of pizza spots in the surrounding area so, realistically, Upside Pizza is great for what it is. Small interior, with one standing table, and a couple other standing tables out front by the street. Grab a slice, a couple, or a whole box, and go. I got 1 slice of cheese ($4) and 1 garlic knot ($1), so for $5 (plus tax + tip) and the option to pay via card/tap-to-pay, this pizza joint was great. It's not neapolitan pizza; it's not a sit-down restaurant, but it is a quick, good slice or two that will hit the spot when you get the craving and are on that block. 4/5 stars 🌟

Delicious slices. Quick service, reasonable price for Manhattan. The mushroom slice is very good, but the sausage and pickled pepper slice is out of this world!!!

Excellent slices in Hell’s Kitchen. Mix of classics and unexpected toppings. Sicilian was the best hands down, but regular NY slices were really quite good too. Excited to try more, definitely a great stop on your way to a show.

The sourdough crust adds an awesome texture. They use high quality sauces and cheese. When it’s good, it my favorite slice in NYC. Only criticism is they sometimes use too much cheese or Parmesan and it makes it too salty. Square slice is OK.

Looking for NY style pizza in the middle of the night in the city that never sleeps? Upside Pizza could be one of the choice then! This small pizza stall is quite small. They only provide small space for dining in. Mostly people come here for to go. We could order the pizza in sliced or whole. We tried their Pepperoni and Mushroom Pizza for the very late dinner in the midnight LOL 🤣 Both of them has a good thin crust NY style pizza with the delicious taste. Their pizza is freshly made as well. We could see the making process directly. Recommended!

Upside Pizza got me upside down turned around it's so good 😱 these are honestly some of the best garlic knots in nyc located just outside of times square just a small little corner shop but I definitely recommend getting an order of these garlic knots maybe two 🦫

Had a softball game nearby and stopped by for a quick slice after. Went with the classic pepperoni slice and it was delicious. It was absolutely huge and the pepperonis were cooked perfectly to where they had the cups. The crust was just the right crisp to my liking and it wasn’t too greasy. I need to go back and try some of the other varieties because they have a bunch.

Corner pizza place that smelled pretty good when I walked by so it prompted me to stop in and grab a slice and some garlic knots. The only eat in option is some tables they have set up on the sidewalk. So more of a grab and go place but I used the table and it was fine. The slice was pretty good and so were the knots but the sauce was cold.

Stale Came here because we were staying across the street and didn't want to wait 30 min for Joe's pizza. It was 11 PM on a Friday night. No wait. We got the cheese pizza. The guy put it in the oven super quick. Tried a bite, and it was stale and disappointing. The hubby chunked it after that and mad he wasted $4.

There is a pizza spot on just about every corner in New York but I decided to try Upside Pizza. This is a nice spot for carry out only, no tables to sit in and eat. Ordered a half pepperoni/half cheese pizza pie which was $30. It was good, hot and plentiful. The customer service was great.

It's a 3.5 if I could. Good slice. Nothing spectacular. It reminded me of a cheaper Ace's Pizza square. The outside is nice and crispy. The pepperonis felt a little dry. Very friendly staff. I'm glad it was hot.

Quintessential NY slice! Crispy crust with a dynamite flavor. Perfectly sauced and cheesed. I had 20 slices in my 3 Manhattan days including John's , Lombardi's , Joe's and Prince street. This was the best slice I had! I can't wait to go back!

I just had the most amazing Detroit-style pizza in NYC and it was truly extraordinary! The crust was cooked to perfection, and the corner piece was absolutely to die for. The cheese was hot and bubbly, and the pepperoni was the perfect thickness - it even cupped when it was baked. There was just the right amount of pepperoni grease for a classic flavor. Tomorrow, I'm heading back to try the NYC style and will fold a slice. This place is a classic NYC setting. On the corner with two friendly and helpful guys running the place. Keep NYC awesome - eat here!

Really great late night pizza. On our last night in NY we did the taste test, Upside Pizza vs Berlina Cafe since they were across the street from each other on the way back to our hotel. Upside Pizza was the clear winner. The service was really fast, but more importantly, the pizza was hot, crispy and tasty. Pretty standard set up with a counter and an oven behind it, really efficient. The crust was crispy and tasty, the pepperoni were those small ones that end up with a nice meaty grease, but in a good way. Highly recommend for late night eats. Also gotta give love to the mushroom pizza, it was pretty bomb too.

Came here on the recommendation of a friend, but thought the pizza was just okay. I came late in the evening, so it looked like the pizzas had been sitting out for a while, but the flavor of the crust was just okay and the pickled peppers were too strong for my liking. Didn't hate it, but I'd recommend other pizza spots over Upside.

This pizza was amazing. I could smell it as we were walking and it looked fantastic. I love the pizza by the slice places. They had a couple tables where you could stand and eat otherwise you take it to go. It tasted great and it was ready quick!

I really enjoy Upside, every time I am in the City I make it a must visit on my list. The pizza is delicious with the perfect crust pull. The right amount of flavorful sauce with a crispy pepperoni. This place is definitely underrated but that's ok with me, never have to wait in a long line.

I heard that this was the elevated version of 2 bros and they created this pizzeria. I bought 3 regular cheese slices for me and 2 of my friends. None of us enjoyed it. The crust was too hard on top and the bottom had a terrible consistency. It felt like cardboard. I was hungry but after having one slice, it just sat in my stomach and gave me a small stomachache. This is worse than 2 bros.

Upside Pizza delivers a NYC pizza experience in midtown. Order by the slice and staff throw it in the oven and soon you have your slice of heaven (almost). The cheese slice was fine, but the thicker style pepperoni could have used some more oven time. There is limited seating and the ambiance is basic but then again so is the pizza. And that may just hit the spot.

On the way back to our hotel after the Knicks win, we saw the Sicilian style pizza and decided to give it a try along with. $2 bottle of water. For $4, we got the simple slice of pizza. The dough is quite fluffy and the edges are crispy however, overall it's lacking flavor for us. Having had other slices around town, one can't help but compare right? The guys were friendly enough claiming they had the best pizza in town when we came in. Good luck in a town that has a pizza place in every block.

So my last review was right before the pandemic hit. Maybe it was the evening. Who knows. But after a visit to MSG to see Harry Styles, we had a long drive back and needed some energy. So we stopped by and ordered a few slices. We both agreed that the slices were delish. I had a pepperoni while my dining companion had a cheese. This time, we skipped any sicilian or Detroit style and just went for the classic NY slice. A little greasy which is what you want here. Good crust and good sauce. A very good slice place.

It's ok. I tried a regular and a mushroom. They were both ok, but kind of dry. The crust didn't have a pleasant flavor. The bright lights and blaring rap music gave the place ( 6th ave, Chelsea) a cheap, dollar slice atmosphere.

I don't think I could justify this place. Leave it for the tourist, locals stay away! Let's get it out the way, $4 for a plain slice. This should be enough to deter any New Yorker from visiting this place. Just go down the block to 2 Bros Pizza, it's not better but half the price. Speaking of taste, I'll be honest, I thought it was alright. If the pizza was $2 I'd probably give it a three. Still, the flavors aren't exactly the best. My friend disliked it and I can understand why. I had better pizza for a $1 and that's not hard to find. It's not like the pizza is made fresh. I could probably give it a three if it was. I just don't see any reason to go here.

A friend of a friend suggested this place for pizza. It's right on 8th between 39th & 40th Streets. It's one of those pizza shops where you can take out, or have them fire up the pizza slices for you to eat as you're on the go. Me and 4 others swung by after gazing at the Christmas Lights Display around NYC. We all decided on NY Style pizza. All five of us ordered different flavors and toppings all but 2 had a few slices to take back for the flight home the next day. Fun place to grab and go. According to their website, it looks like there are two other locations in NYC. This particular location is best if you are in Times Square and just a few steps away from Port Authority. Tbh, the pizza was delicious and all, service was nice, but with so many pizza shops all around the city, It isn't so close to anything that I come by regularly.

First I am going to say I am not a fan of NY style pizza. I am more of a Detroit style pizza. That being said, we ordered delivery from this shop. Easy app to order and delivered quick. Hubby wanted to try NY style pizza so I indulged him. He really liked the thinnest of the crust, not too much sauce, and lots of cheese. He was a happy camper with this pizza. I wanted to take off one star off for the greasiness of the pizza. My friend from NY enlightened me to the fact that is the way NYC pizza is supposed to be greasy. So giving it 5 stars. Hubby did not complain at all. Delivery was quick and ordering was extremely easy. Would I go back? No, but it was an experience for hubby.

The pizza can be good but the service is so rude and the management is aggressive and bullying to any customers that speak up that I won't be going back there. I have tried it over the years because the 8th Avenue restaurant is near my work but honestly everytime I have gone I have experienced some sort of nastiness with the employees and management of this place, either directed at me or at others. NOT WORTH THE HASSLE OF BEING TREATED POORLY

Grabbed 2 slices for lunch last week as I needed something quick and easy. I opted for a pepperoni and a chicken marsala. The pepperoni was a little underwhelming but by no means was it bad. I definitely enjoyed the chicken marsala especially since the local pizza spots in this area rarely if ever have it. Would certainly come back for that specific slice. Overall, it's pricey but that's the nature of the area it's located in. service was quick and easy - no qualms there.

Ordered two slices from Upside Pizza on Friday afternoon. In an area where the pizza options are mostly gross dollar slices it is a step-up, but definitely not enough to seek out. Quality: Upside Pizza was decent, but not worth navigating the craziness of Midtown to get. I ordered two slices, a Sicilian and a Sunny Goldstein. The Sicilian was the better of the two, thanks to a solid interior. The tomato sauce was thick and creamy and the texture was soft. However, the cheese was a bit too burnt and the edges were charred. The Sunny Goldstein is a seasonal pie, which utilizes sungold tomato sauce. A bit tart, it provided a unique flavor, but not one that had me craving more. Quantity: Standard size slices, Sicilian is a bit heftier than usual. Value: $3.50-$5.50 for a Pizza Slice. Ambiance: Upside Pizza is located in Midtown Manhattan. The location is tiny with most of the indoor space dedicated to the kitchen. Guests have just enough space to order and then are immediately back outside. They had two high-tops set up on the sidewalk, which would make busier times inconvenient. Expect to stand and hold your plate. Crowd: Tons of people walking in and out, but very few ordering pizza. Tourist location creates weird traffic patterns. Service: Friendly guys behind the counter, pleasantly surprised to see them wiping down the outside tables immediately after use. Parking: Difficult to find any nearby parking.

Fresh mushroom slice was some of best pizza of my life. Went here after trying a fresh cheese pizza the previous day. From the reviews i guess the fresh stuff is the slice to get . But overall, incredible NYC pizza.

I am here to help plan your NYC trip based on PIZZA. Stay at the Holiday Inn Express on 39th and then enjoy late night pizza mere steps away! Or afternoon pizza! Or anytime pizza! I had a few too many glasses of wine and was ready for some late night 'za after a long day of travel. This corner shop for slices and squares DELIVERED. I said "one slice of pepperoni?" and the cashier said "just one?!" and I said "no, two," and thus began a love of Upside Pizza and their deep understanding of my NEEDS at that time. They know me better than I knew myself in that moment. Two was the correct choice. This slice was unreal. Loaded with pep, greasy as can be, seasoned to perfection, with a soft-but-not-gummy dough. I am not even going to try and get to over the top descriptive here, because let's be honest, I ate this in my pajamas - drunk and alone in my hotel room. I might argue that is the best way to eat this pizza. No judgement, all enjoyment. If you're staying near Port Authority, the warm glow and scent of this spot will likely draw you in at some point. Let it happen. Order two slices. Also, give their NYT feature a read, too! The owners are the same as 2 Bros and the history behind this spot is really interesting.

A below average slice of pizza. I got a mushroom slice here, and it tasted pretty dry and overdone.

As a lover of the square slice, I simply needed to stop by Upside Pizza while I was in the area. I heard about their cold-fermented dough that about 72 hours to rise, which was a major selling point to me. If the dough is no good, the pizza is just wasted. I had the pepperoni square ($5) which was an instant flavor bomb of salty, porky goodness in my mouth. The cheesy frico crust was chewy but crisp, and so buttery. This slice is not shy about its flavors at all! I will say, however, that it's best to ask them to warm up your slice a little longer in the oven, especially on a busy day where they might forget to check the time.

If this would've been pre-pandemic I would've given it FIVE Stars! What a difference a pandemic makes! Wow! My first time back into Manhattan and my first stop is Upside Pizza! Last time I was her was around February 2020. Since this place first opened around 2018, I e been always impressed with the pies here. From the perfectly tasty crust, to the exquisitely seasoned tomato sauce base and the nice proportions of cheese and meat and expertly cooked pies. What happened with that pizza? What happened with the original guy that I saw almost every day....from spotting him early every morning preparing dough and getting the first pies in the oven. I could hardly wait for lunch. When I finally got back and checked inside, everything looked the same as before, except that the original guy wasn't there anymore!! How much difference could his absence make? Unfortunately, it made ALL the difference in the world!! Such a disappointing experience. To start with, the dough was like cardboard. No tasty irresistible crust, I felt like crying! The tomato sauce, meh is a oak I can say. Is it different tomato's? Roma tomatoes or San Marzano's? Whatever they did it's not a good thing. I ordered a slice of the thick pepperoni (a square corner) cause they didn't have the spicy sausage available. After the big hit of salt, I was hit with the overcooked crust, nondescript sauce......such a disappointment to say the least. I still gave it two stars, mainly for its nice guys and friendly service. I truly hope that the original guy comes back and makes everything alright with the pizza world in midtown Manhattan once again! When that day comes, I'll be back. Until that day, I be buying a full pie at John's Pizza on Bleeker Street!

Emanuel & Dameon are the sweetest, greatest pizza makers ever. I would 10/10 recommended this place for the great pizza and even better service. They really are out there trying to sell slices and sold us more than we wanted to buy. The pizza was delicious and the good service made it better. It's a sourdough crust so it's a little different but very crispy and perfect. They need a raise!

The location is like any pizza shop, you have outside seating to enjoy your pizza. The service is nothing fancy. The pizza is horrible, it was very salty and DRY!! Their garlic knots, it was just straight dough. I would never come back again, I rather do $1 pizza than eat from here again. I was tempted, as I hear their pizza was famous...it was a lie. The only thing I love was the bottle Coca Cola, and their ice cream store. Other than that, the pizza is stay away

Don't get too excited! This isn't the best or the greatest pizza in NYC. it's good but unless you're sitting down and getting a pie, it might not be fully hot and there are so many pizza offerings in the city and in this area to try. First, I'm not a pizza snob, maybe just a snob. Most pizza has its charms and there are categories depending on your mood, time of day or night, convenience, price point etc. You cannot give a blanket review without context. So with that in mind, I'll give two, thick and thin references. The "thick" Sicilian style at Upside is very good and get it crisp, but when it comes to Detroit style thick, there's A Place in the jersey city heights called Low Fidelity that kills this style hands down. I mean, it's lifetime memorable and that to me is the sign of something great. My favorite "thin" in the city and perhaps the world is the tri pie at Joe and Pats on 1st avenue, they offer the same pie with three sauces (vodka, marinara, and pesto) at their other family related locations. It's not cheap or by the slice, but you can get it by the slice at their staten Island location. Happy pizza eating in the city that never sleeps and even the .99 cent a slice places satisfy.

They have a nice upside-down Sicilian. The cheese is a little more complex that a typical NY slice Sometimes I get the no-cheese Sicilian that has slices of fresh garlic on it. It's always burned on the bottom as people have noted in other reviews. That is not my thing.

Horrible pizza! Thought I'd try the pizza here and am sorry I did. It has a weird tasting sauce and cheese. The dough tastes funny as well. Definitely not worth trying.

This was actually a bomb ass thin crusted pizza place. Good flavor and the pepperoni cups were nice and crisp. Definitely will be going back here for a $5 sliced pizza!

We stopped here while rushing to see a show and had little time. The service was fast and the pizza was solid. Can't say this is somewhere I'd seek out again, but it was perfect for what we needed.

steep prices. no chairs or tables to stand at, but they have a few hightops to stand at. i loved the veggie slice. not gonna lie, it had a nice amount of garlic and mushrooms on it. cheese was decent. no flop on these slices, they had more of a crunch. they take cards.

Solid slice in midtown. The pizza guys from Upside just gets it. The crust is crispy but soft. The sauce has the perfect balance between acidic and sweetness, and the cheese is pretty awesome too. Please keep in mind that there are not tables at this location. You would order your slice, wait until you're called and then fold and eat (it doesn't get any more NY than that). Prices are reasonable a for the quality of the food. The slices are average size and the service is good (pizza guy is pretty friendly). I tired the mushroom white slice, and the pepperoni square both were excellent. The only reason I would not give it 5 stars is because of the location. We all know 8th Avenue is not the best place to eat a slice on the street. Other than that go and get your pizza and go elsewhere to enjoy it.

Take out pizza place with plenty of pizza and upbeat music blasting. I pretty much came here to taste their pepperoni square slice, which was tasty, but a little too "light" for my taste. I like deep pizza that if more dense, but this one was still ok. Got here on a Friday evening around 7pm and there was no line.

Yet another really good pizza spot just opened, another one consulted on by the pizza master, Anthony Falco, aka Millennium Falco. Located in the armpit of the city, it's one of the few redeemable businesses on that stretch of 8th ave between Penn Station and Port Authority. Fun branding, very similar to Falco's own Rad Times Pizza, good hip hop music, and really great pizza, this is a real gem for this neighborhood that will be a go to recommendation and spot for myself any time I'm in the area now.
