The 12 Best Restaurants & Bars At Green Lake

"We approve of smartphone-sized pastries. Urban Bakery’s bar desserts are all great, like the tart lemon bar or the “magic bar” which has a shortbread bottom topped with chocolate and nuts. They make sandwiches and coffee too, but we’re big fans of the bars. You just can’t play Candy Crush on them. Use this place if you forgot to bring a dessert for that Green Lake picnic you knew about for weeks." - aimee rizzo

14 Fantastic Green Lake Restaurants

"Massive pastries, filling sandwiches, and creamy quiches make this bakery a great casual spot for breakfast. Service isn’t stellar, but it’s easily worth the visit for an egg sandwich that can rival those found on the East Coast. Breakfast sandwiches are available in half or whole portions, and the bakery also occasionally offers soup and sandwich combinations. There is ample indoor and outdoor seating, or you could just cross the street and eat in the park." - Sarah Engstrand

First timer, stopping in after meeting a new client in the area. I ordered a bunch of items to try it out. I got the grilled cheese, a couple of quiche, lavender chia tea, and some other goodies in pics. The magic bar was my fav. So good. The cafe itself could use some updating, but I just got items to go. They have both indoor and outdoor seating, and it's located right across the street from the little kid pool at Green Lake.

Google
Good place to visit if you are hungry walking around Green Lake or want to drink a yummy cappuccino or latte. I am a regular customer, and I would like to highlight that they always have a good choice of berry pies as well as quiches and grilled sandwiches.

Google
This neighborhood is wonderful. I went for a walk around Green Lake and was ecstatic to find this little bakery right across the street. I popped in late morning and was happy to find plenty of options still available. The staff was super friendly and made sure to pack all my treats with care. Everything was fresh and delicious. I enjoyed it thoroughly.

Google
This is our "third place" home away from home in this neighborhood. The food and drinks are unpretentious and delicious, and the couple who run it treat our kids like bonus grandchildren. We love you, Ajumma and Ajushi :)

At 2pm on a Monday. After 25 miles bicycle ride 🚴 we stopped for a Light lunch. We split a Chicken Curry sandwich on sourdough and a cup of Beef & Barley soup and I My friend ordered a Dopio Coffee. I am not a sandwich guy, BUT I Love the Chicken Curry 👌the Bakery is Really clean, the service was top shelf, unisex bathrooms. Seating outside on a sunny afternoon 🌞. Parking is on the streets.

Google
Overall, not what I would have expected here at Greenlake. Coffee was substandard and the breakfast sandwich was so bland. Decor and furniture old and run down. Sad to say I was not impressed.

Forest Baker

Google
We live close by and just love picking up a sandwich or a couple breakfast croissants here. The ham and cheese croissants, muffins, customized sandwiches, lattes, and soups are all delicious and fairly priced. The staff are always very friendly and helpful as well. We love this place and will definitely keep coming back.

Google
Wanted some juice/smoothie while walking the green lake. We got the mixed berry smoothie from here - extremely sweet and does not taste like there’s any real fruit

Yelp
We stopped in because of the Tuesday lunch special; Sandwich and soup or salad for under $10. Food was great! Service was quick and friendly. Lots of seating indoor and outdoor which you can see the park from. Restroom available! Overall very nice and would return.

Yelp
Machine for payment is in a foreign Language so I couldn't tell what I was looking at - only $ amounts were shown. Magic bar is good - always buy that when I come here. We bought a couple of scones for about $4.50 each. Scones not bad but a bit pricey.

Yelp
went here at like 8 in the morning and it was decently busy with people sitting outside enjoying the nice weather. There wasn't anybody in line before us so we ordered right away. The service is super nice, when they call out your order they have speakers outside to know when your food is ready which was kinda funny to us. Overall the food was fine. Overall it's a nice place, might go back to try a smoothie. Wouldn't go out of my way to try but it's near greenlake so would stop by for a quick thing if it's on my way or something. Ham and cheese croissant 5.5 I liked that it was warmed up without asking but I thought it was kinda weird the ham was like cubed and not like slices. Green tea frapp - it was sweet, not my drink but my friend said it was a lil too sweet for her Java chip 7/10. Tasted like Java chip, pretty good

Yelp
I went in months ago after a walk to get a drink. I guess I was super close to close time because the two staff members there looked very annoyed when I walked in. I was polite the whole time but was treated with very little common courtesy. I wouldn't have minded if they had politely just told me they were about to close and were unable to serve me. They could've closed their doors sooner too. Instead they tersely took my order and told me I had to leave right after. I was already leaving to go. The attitude was unnecessary and all of that could've have been communicated nicely without being agitated and treating a customer like a nuisance. The chai I got wasn't very flavorful and tasted just like milk. The shop itself was pretty plain without much character. It's left a bad mark on the place for me. I walk by all the time, but I can't bring myself to go in even if I want something. I just go to Chocolati instead.

Hannah F.

Yelp
Oh. My. GOSH I said this so many times while I was indulging in the amazing quiche from the Urban Bakery. We got the quiche Lorraine and ham and Cheddar. Perfection. I am a quiche connoisseur and this is in the top 2 of my life. Coffee...where do I even start. Perfectly made, not too bitter and the place was quick and a great place after a run. Clean, friendly, and great price! Thank you!! I can't wait to come back and try more of your quiche

Yelp
The Urban Bakery at Green Lake is a bakery and café that had a large word-of-mouth reputation when I worked as a lifeguard at a Seattle-area YMCA and at Evans Pool on Green Lake. While I did not make it to the bakery and café at that time, I came to check it out today, Thursday 22 June 2023, as part of a Green Lake adventure. I arrived around 8:30 a.m. and found a few people seated inside as well as a few people standing out front and in the entry. Making my way to the area to place my order I went with a half breakfast sandwich, choosing baguette for my bread, bacon for my meat, and provolone for my cheese. The total came to $6.06 pre-tip with tax and I took a seat as the worker who took my order made the sandwich. The worker was friendly and careful in preparing the sandwich. I ordered it to go, making my way to the closest picnic table with a view of Green Lake to eat it. Still warm when I seated myself at the table, the provolone was melty, bacon crispy, and baguette bread perfectly toasted to crispy but not crunchy. The bread was also light/fluffy. I found the sandwich also came with a layer of egg atop the melty cheese. I had been hoping for a protein savory eats that was not too heavy, and the sandwich hit the spot on serving size, flavors, and price. Napkins were available at the entrance/exit, which I found a helpful placement to not miss.

Yelp
I would say if you keep your expectations low, The Urban Bakery meets them. It's not a restaurant. I'd describe it like the concession stand near a ball field or a late night diner in the middle of nowhere. The baked goods come from other places and don't seem to be made in house, but when heated up taste great with a cup of coffee. If you come in expecting a cafe and not just baked goods and hot drinks The Urban Bakery is probably not for you, but the service was quick, and the pie tasted great, so all in all it met our needs.

Yelp
Old school cafe, right in the heart of green lake businesses! I am early for a physical therapy appointment next door, and with a broken foot and limited mobility, I was so glad to find a spot to sit down and enjoy the morning. There are such nice people working here, they even went out of their way to bring everything to me since I'm not moving around so well (it's the little connections like that with someone that make such a big difference in your day!). They have a large bakery case with sweet and savory options, breakfast sammies, and lots of seating. I'm sitting here now drinking a coconut latte and eating a super satisfying mushroom & spinach quiche - it was super classic, moist, and a very generous slice! There are a few tables of friends that met here for breakfast (their convo makes it sound like a weekly ritual), and so the vibe is pretty nice while I listen to their laughter and chitchat. And honestly, the door hasn't stopped opening in the 30 minutes I've been here - now that's a good sign, you know a place is doing it right when there's a consistent line and full tables. There is tons of outdoor seating for you and your pup. The decor inside makes me feel like I'm a 90s sitcom, but I'm not saying that in a bad way! I grew up going to places like this, just a standard city cafe that you don't think about because of its trendy glitz and glam, but because it's always there to welcome you in and get your day going. I think it's a solid place! I'm giving 4 stars not because I'm demoting it from 5 for any reason, but that just feels like the right vibe. It's great, maybe not epic and about to be my favorite coffee spot, but definitely a good little place!

Yelp
Food is so-so. Service is lackadaisical. Feels dirty and unkempt. We were glad to find somewhere that was open, but probably won't be back again.
google avatar

Yelp
Awesome, no-frills breakfast sandwiches. It's the only thing I come here for. You select your own bread, cheese and protein.
google avatar

Chelsia L.

Yelp
Unassuming bakery/ coffee shop with delicious pies and quiches! We got the quiche Lorraine and it was FILLED. The blueberry cherry pie also tasted so jammy (with real fruits) and delicious. Nice neighborhood bakery and we're going to come back for more!

Yelp
Saw this spot next to green lake with decent reviews so I decided to give it a taste. The breakfast sandwich tasted like one of those frozen Jimmy Dean ones you buy at Costco! I found it to be very bland and had to add so much Tabasco sauce, the sourdough tasted like a basic white bread, with no kick to it. The cappuccino was a little watery as well. Maybe I ordered the wrong things? If I come back I will try one of their pies/quiches to see what the rave is all about.
google avatar

Yelp
Had the breakfast sandwich and a chocolate scone and both were solid. Outdoor patio and dog friendly too as well as REASONABLE PRICES!!! Check it out.

Colleen S.

Yelp
Tragic. Went there for a quick lunch after I saw some decent reviews. At 1230pm on a workday, the counter was basically empty of food. I looked at the croissants but was (thankfully) warned by the staff it was a day old. I ultimately ordered a spinach feta quiche. I should have known the moment it went into a microwave this would be bad. Quiche had approximately one small piece of feta. Was not delicious and quiche crust was a tortilla - what?!??? Save yourself your $8. You'd be better off at McDs which is sad. Even the people that worked there
google avatar

Yelp
We stopped by as this was the closest to grab a quick bite. The food was mediocre and the drinks werent too amazing. The woman at the register was a bit snippy. My fiancé ordered a "sausage breakfast sandwich" and proceeded to order his drink. She cut him off and said, "You need to tell me what else you want." ....meaning what kind of bread and cheese he wanted with his sandwich. After that, I was pretty turned off by the place and wanted to go somewhere else more welcoming.. somewhere I'd much rather spend my money.

Yelp
Insanely delicious, and a great value!! They have the perfect location next to Green Lake and a terrific vibe inside.
google avatar

Justine D.

Yelp
Needed a cafe with outdoor seating close to Seattle Public Theater and the Urban Bakery popped up. Kind service and tasty iced Americano. A medium size of that and a day old bakery item (blueberry croissant) came to just under five bucks (yaSSSSSS GOOD PRICE)!! The have a nice little outdoor patio with umbrellas. I found a nice sunny spot near the bamboo to get some studying done. There is a lot of traffic whizzing past, but the location is enclosed in medium sized hedges and it is right across the street from Greenlake park. The inside and awning are a bit dated. Plenty of seating and exactly what I needed.
google avatar

Lindsay P.

Yelp
Lunch sandwiches were tasty and simply customizable. Brownie was quite fudgy and delicious. Wait times and a slightly confusing ordering system were kinks that could be worked out.

Yelp
The last time I had visited The Urban Bakery was over 16 years ago with a pastry school classmate. Let's just say meeting someone here earlier this morning, it was with guarded optimism. Usually I preferred Chocolati next door or the nearby, now closed Bauhaus. But I'm happy to report that the pastry cases were full of a variety of baked goods, including quiches. And for nearly 3 hours, The Urban Bakery had a steady stream of customers to sit awhile like us or as takeout. I can only speak of the 12 ounce mocha (Cafe d'Arte), no latte art, but decently crafted beverage. The barista seemed a bit tired, but between her and another person, they were able to handle the volume of folks coming through. Glad to see a long time indie spot survive and thrive after all these years. Always room for improvement and seemed they took it to heart.
google avatar

Trisha F.

Yelp
Why are these people so nice? Why are the salads (chef w/ turkey) so fresh? Why are the portions so generous? Why do I not live at this bakery? Urban Bakery knows how to do business right. I love this place!
google avatar

Madeleine B.

Yelp
Just updating here that I appreciate the eventual response to my review, and the owner's kind offer. It is interesting to hear about chemical reactions in baking that can result in green patches of dough - I have eaten many baked goods with cranberries over the years, and this is the first time I've encountered or heard of this. I'm not 100% convinced as it really did look like mold, but in this case I'll give the benefit of the doubt.
google avatar

Najin K.

Yelp
This was a good old cafe not mind blowing but I love good service and the cashier/ barista was just hilarious and sweet. The cafe has nice out door seating and the food is cheaper then most cafes. Also it is right next to green lake which makes it a great stop before a beautiful walk.
google avatar

Anthony Z.

Yelp
Pretty good spot to grab a sandwich and coffee. It's right by the lake which is convenient. Ordered a full size curry chicken sandwich which was good and filling, as well as an Iced Americano. Order was pretty fast (less than 5 minutes I'd say). I do recommend if you need a bite around Green Lake.
google avatar

Eddie C.

Yelp
A simple cafe but with excellent food and service. We order full curry chicken sandwiches with bottle drink. The sandwiches is exceptional good and tasty. I wish I have another one but we are not that hungry. It is a hot day so drink is priority. Definitely we will come back whenever we visit Green Lake area.
google avatar

Diana A.

Yelp
Taking Covid precautions, with good outdoor seating and covering. Their sandwiches were EXCELLENT. I'll be thinking about it for the rest of the week. So good. 10/10.
google avatar

Hollen F.

Yelp
Overpriced sandwiches that I could make it better myself at home. Do not order the Matcha latte it is chalky and bitter. Honestly upsetting that they have such a good spot on Green Lake but serve such mediocre food and coffee.
google avatar

Taru S.

Yelp
Had a cappuccino and a bagel here. Great coffee, fresh bagel !
google avatar

Philip C.

Yelp
Meh! Not particularly friendly nor welcoming. And most definitely not a bakery when everything you have is from somewhere else. It's a coffee shop sure but calling it a bakery is just leveraging the general interest people have towards bakeries in general. The breakfast sandwich was mediocre and expensive for $5 for a half sandwich.

Riika K.

Yelp
Worst tuna sandwich of my life. Gross, tossing in the trash. Safeway makes better pre-made sandwiches, which is not saying a lot. The interior looks shambled and dirty. Lady making my sandwich was not exactly friendly and the other lady was yawning and rubbing her eyes in a gross manner right at the counter telling another patron how tired she was because she had too much fun last night. Will def not return. So sad, they are taking up good real estate.
google avatar

Tony Y.

Yelp
Looking for a cafe to study and Forza is way too crowded.... Go to urban bakery just down the road. You won't regret it! Urban Bakery has a great selection of freshly baked scones, turnovers, muffins, and even bagels. They also make their own quiche, which looked amazing and very filling. The coffee is good and goes great with a scone. They have free wifi for studying/ working and you cant beat the location right across from Green Lake.
google avatar

Sabrina M.

Yelp
They call themselves a bakery but I have been in twice now and I haven't seen much more than a half-empty case of hard cookies. The location is great and might be nice to sit with a friend for coffee, but I would advise against ordering food. I expect that when I order a sandwich from a bakery it will be more than a little meat and cheese thrown on a piece of bread. Maybe put some veggies on it and grill it up on a panini machine? Nope, expect to pay $8-9 for a sandwich you could easily make at home for $0.25. Service was not friendly either time I was in. I felt awkward because I was not greeted and when I approached the counter to order the girl at the register just stared at me until I started my order. Head down the street a half mile and there are plenty of quality places to eat.
google avatar

Mark H.

Yelp
Blueberry scone. Salty. Why are there some currents in it? Otherwise tasteless. I won't be back.

Vini M.

Yelp
We ordered two dishes, the ham croissant and th bread pudding. While the ham croissant tasted good, the bread pudding tasted terrible like it had gone stale. My spouse ate a bite of the same and mentioned likewise. We assumed it must have been in our heads and he continued to take a big bite and had to spit it out as the taste was more pungent in the center. We threw away the same and left. Wouldn't be returning to this place to take a risk again.
google avatar

Beth S.

Yelp
Every time I have been here, I have ordered the quiche, and it is always wonderful. They serve a very generous helping and it's quite tasty and satisfying. Someday soon I'm going to try some other offerings. The owners are extremely nice and friendly. Stop by and try that quiche!!
google avatar

Opal D.

Yelp
Not much on the lunch menu that looked appetising so I ordered a small cup of soup and flavoured it with a ton of hot sauce. For a spot on Greenlake in the Summer, it manages to be cave-like and poorly lit. Unimpressed and won't be back.
google avatar

Brittany L.

Yelp
Stopped by after missing the bus right across the street, so I decided to come in and get a quick bite to eat. I had about ~20 minutes until the next bus came and was immediately drawn to the $5.99 half sandwich and soup/salad combo that was advertised right outside of the business. The owners are friendly and the inside is very homey. There were 4 soup options and several different options to choose to build your own sandwich. I decided on ham and provolone on sourdough with a cup of beef and barley soup. My food was ready quickly and I had the perfect amount of time to finish my food. My sandwich tasted good because it tasted exactly like a sandwich I would make at home- nothing special. I wish they offered to toast the bread, but it was just a normal cold sandwich. The beef and barley soup was super disappointing. It looked rich and creamy, but tasted like water! It was the strangest thing. I might be back to try one of their coffees or baked goods if I'm in the area, but I would skip on the soup/sandwich combo next time.
google avatar

Yelp
This is a cute Bakery positioned right by Green Lake. They have decent coffee, and GREAT baked goods. Both the sugar cookie and magic bar here where on point. The sugar cookie was perfectly soft to the point it seemed to just melt in your mouth.
google avatar

Andrew H.

Yelp
The Urban Bakery is a quiet pastry shop and cafe located on the north shore the peaceful Green Lake. I spent $7.44 (on 9/11/2014) on a hot mocha and a cranberry scone, and I will say that I enjoyed it. While I do feel that their mocha is slightly below Starbucks quality, their scones are soft, flaky, and buttery, and meshed well with the coffee. Seating is plentiful but unfortunately doesn't match the warm, cushy environments that establishments like Starbucks and Panera Bread often create for their customers. Overall, The Urban Bakery is a great place for those looking for a peaceful place to sit, drink coffee, have a scone, and read the newspaper.

Yelp
When we were pregnant with our daughter a little over two years ago, we were new to the Greenlake area and were looking for a cafe that wasn't one of the bigwigs (aka Starbucks). We came here and have literally been coming at least weekly since! Our daughter, now 2, will ask to walk to "her bakery" every Saturday morning like clockwork. The staff is attentive, kind, and friendly! The food is amazing and so are the coffees. Everytime my daughter walks in, they call her by name and they even come by and tell her fun stories or just give her a high five! They even got a hug, which is a huge deal from an active 2 year old. We couldn't be more lucky to have made such a connection like we have there - OH and during meltdowns they just smile and laugh, which isn't something you see often in restaurants/coffee shops! Thanks Urban Bakery for providing us a little adventure on the weekends (and so many trips out of the house with a newborn year's ago)!
google avatar

Renee A.

Yelp
My rating is for food and service, not interior design. I've never had a bad sandwich, salad, soup or coffee during my visit before or after walking the lake. Indeed, they've all been delicious! I like the quiet local neighborhood atmosphere and the efficient staff. I was introduced to this unassuming little place about 2 years ago by a friend who's been coming weekly for many years, and appreciates their ability to accommodate her gluten free bread needs. The ability to sit outside with our doggies is a major plus.

Anthony B.

Yelp
Rude staff. They don't seem very friendly to people who can't wear masks for health reasons.

Pamela D.

Yelp
So CLEAN!! Important during the Covid 19 situation. Amazingly dedicated owners and the food is very good, espresso excellent, and a nice variety of cookies, pies and other baked goodies. The quiches are really remarkable, so creamy! Four soups, the carrot ginger and lentil ham are our favs, and the sandwiches are made to order with VERY Fresh ingredients. GLUTEN FREE bread is available and you can even get Avacado toast! Several breakfast sandwich offerings too, even smoothies. Take out is in all compostable containers. We grab our meal of choice and sit at green lake to eat, or take it home. You can order a whole quiche or pie a day ahead too. Corner of Green Lake and Wallingford at the light. PS: they have a restroom available, also very clean! :-))

Yelp
The name Urban Bakery made me expect funkiness, black-fingernail-ness, mohawk-ness, grunge-music-ness, and me-looking-pretty-lame-ness. The actual atmosphere couldn't be more opposite. Don't get me wrong, the Asian couple who appears to own this and their Russian employee were totally delightful. And the other patrons, while at least twice my age and sipping their one cup of decaf coffee while discussing philosophy, were perfectly fine too. It just wasn't what I was expecting. As far as the product goes, they have lots to choose from. Soups and sandwiches for lunch, and a gazillion desserts of all kinds--pies, cookies, brownies, cakes. Breakfast options were good too--espresso, a few breakfast sandwiches, and bagels, muffins, and scones. I had drip coffee, which was a little on the weak side. The blueberry scone caught my attention right away, it being as big as my head, covered in shiny glaze, and fresh blueberries on top staring at me like so many little eyeballs. It was good and I ate every last crumb. At $3.50, it was all a steal of a deal. I'll have to come back at a different time of day and try some other stuff, confident this time that I will be the most urban person there.

Yelp
This is a sweet little corner cafe. It's big and breezy. They have coffees, cakes, pies, and tasty soup and sandwiches. If it's not enough for you, you can always have a red bull. I did! It really helped me on the way back around the lake. Note the free coffee with cake or pie special. Best deal in town that I've seen for a traditional small diner meal. Have a seat and watch the world go by.. on their way around the lake.
google avatar

Jeff B.

Yelp
I'm a sucker for good bakeries with free WIFI and a patio with a view of Greenlake. The 99 cent latte is a good deal on Mondays too.

Kara L.

Yelp
This unassuming little bakery has the best croissants in Seattle. Seriously, the croissants are light, fluffy and flaky, not the hard rocks that most bakery's sell around here. I waddled in to the Urban Bakery when I was pregnant and basically became addicted to the Nutella croissants! The quiches are delicious as are the breakfast sandwiches, which are made to order. We've made this place our go to morning bakery and our kiddo is always excited to come here because she loves the owners! The owners are the sweetest people, and so kind, they also staff the place with very good employees. There are always water bowls ready for the dogs of greenlake outside too. This is definitely the place to stop and get your coffee before walking the lake or after running it.

Yelp
We love this place! We only visit Seattle a 2-3 times a yr but we ALWAYS make a trip in to Urban Bakery! The prices are great! We can't believe how much food you get for the price. Great breakfast sandwiches and best of all... The MONSTER cookie! Begged them for the recipe but they wouldn't budge :-). They don't ship so we always order a few dozen ahead of time and freeze them. Yummmmmmm!!! It's not a fancy or upscale looking place so if that's what you're looking for this isn't it. It VERY laid back and friendly. Lots of locals
google avatar

Peter L.

Yelp
The Urban Bakery isn't exactly an artisanal bakery, but their pastries, croissants, and breads are baked on premise. The croissants are a little too buttery for my tastes, but when they are still warm from the oven, they are good. The breakfast sandwich may seem expensive at $6, but it is easily 2 servings. The coffee is unassuming, but is quite decent. Overall, a good neighborhood spot, but nothing special.

Yelp
Nice convenient location near Green Lake for coffee and a snack before, during, or after a stroll around the lake. I love Cafe D'Arte coffee, and their chai was also really good. My kids loved the cookies, especially the large sugar cookie with rainbow sprinkles. Their pastry/breakfast selection seemed limited though, after 10 AM on a Sunday morning. Service was good at the counter. The tables are "bus yourself" Nice clean restrooms. Parking could be difficult to find on nearby streets if it's nice out.
