Corner eatery specializing in vegetarian provisions from Northern & Southern India.
"This spot on Devon has been one of our favorite vegetarian spots for a while. We really like their soft-in-the-middle and crispy-on-the-outside uttapam, the curried-potato-filled dosa is hearty with plenty of heat, and the rich malai kofta is sweet and comforting. Uru-Swati’s dining room is very casual and relaxed, filled with TVs, families, and solo diners." - john ringor, veda kilaru
"Uri-Swati is a solid option for vegetarian food on Devon when there aren’t any tables available at Annapurna. Get your fix of South Indian dishes like soft-in-the-middle and crispy-on-the-outside uttapam, or the impossibly thin Mysore masala dosa that comes with a delicious and fresh coconut chutney. Or, enjoy a paratha meal that comes with a tasty lassuni dal while catching up on the latest Bollywood music videos playing in Uru-Swati’s dining room. But skip the idli (too dry and hard) and overcooked vada which is bordering on burned." - Adrian Kane & Veda Kilaru
"This has been one of our favorite vegetarian Indian spots for a long time, so we’re glad they’re staying open, and offering takeout and delivery. Get the baingan bartha, paneer makhani, and the chili naan." - adrian kane
"West Rogers Park’s Devon Avenue is an oasis for vegetarians. The neighborhood is full of Indian restaurants, several of which are exclusively meatless. Uru Swati focuses on dishes from the country’s northern and southern regions, and masala dosa and samosa chaat are can’t-miss appetizers. The latter is a popular street food featuring savory fried pastry topped with chickpeas, potatoes, yogurt, and chutney. Online ordering is available here." - Jeffy Mai
