The Best Things We Ate This Week

"Pork Belly Onigiri Every time I encounter Omusubee at a farmer’s market (which is where you’ll find them for now), we beeline to their stand and get all jittery with excitement for what we’re about to eat. They serve onigiri here, which are little rice triangles wrapped in seaweed and stuffed with all kinds of great things. It’s an excellent Japanese snack, and Omusubee makes great versions with things like plantain, ume, and shrimp tempura. This week, I grabbed a pork belly onigiri, and spent every bite wishing these folks had their own restaurant. Follow them on Instagram to stay updated on where to find them." - ryan pfeffer, carlos c olaechea

15 Miami Pop-Up Restaurants To Know About Right Now - Miami - The Infatuation

"Follow Peacock Ramen On Instagram Like the name implies, Peacock Ramen specializes in ramen - tonkotsu, shoyu, vegan, and more versions. But Peacock has also branched out into other types of food too, like making a Spam yakisoba at J Wakefield that almost made us pass out with joy (pictured above). Since they move around a lot this is definitely a pop-up to consider turning on Instagram notifications for, but right now, you can find them every Saturday at Little Havana’s Union Beer." - Ryan Pfeffer

Very flavorful ramen, specially the tan tan ramen, you can really taste the sesame in it! I’m critical when it comes to Ramen and this place really hit the high notes with delicious authentic Ramen taste. Please come to Chattanooga!

$20 ($16 on the menu, plus tax and service charge???) for a 16 oz container of ramen noodles, a few slices of bamboo and a single slice of pork meat. Absurd pricing for barely anything.

Google
Delicious spicy tantan ramen, have been looking for this type of broth since trying it in East Asia and most places don’t have it. Thicker creamier consistency because of miso paste and sesame paste. The pork was authentic, nice and juicy. Nice atmosphere too, recommend!

Usagi Ramen is an establishment within 1-800-Lucky building. They specialize in ramen with variations of pork, chicken, or veggie. I ended up choosing the Spicy Tantan Ramen since I'm a spice freak. There was an option between chicken or pork and I opted for the chicken version. I really enjoyed the broth and noodles, but the meat itself was overcooked and rubbery. The broth was really good with a creamy element to it that had a good underlying cashew taste. The noodles were enjoyable too. Great bite and tasty! If the chicken was cooked properly then it would have faired a lot better. I think next time I'd opt for the pork though since I think that flavor profile would fit better and add to the richness. Overall, a decent place that can be made better with refining their craft.

This new ramen spot inside 1-800-Lucky is the funk! I cannot believe how amazing it is! As much as I enjoyed their predecessor, this ramen place has not only filled the shoes of the prior spot, but superseded the prior ramen! Not only is their ramen authentic, but the service is absolutely amazing! I enjoyed the Tokusei Shoyu Ramen and it was phenomenal! The portion was amazing, the broth tasted homemade & soo good without being too salty, which always makes me wary with Shoyu ramen... The pork was divine and the noodles tasted amazing! Of course I cannot enjoy ramen without the egg and this was no exception! everything from start to finish was amazing! I cannot wait to try the other ramen available! The service, ugh amazing! The staff was so friendly, nice, attentive & knowledgable. They were able to explain every ramen to me and the components with no rush at all. They served up the ramen quickly & they asked how good it was. For being the new spot on the block, they will definitely grow quickly because service is everything when there are so many choices in one spot! Definitely a must go! 1-800-Lucky is a great spot in general, but they made a great decision in acquiring this as their new ramen spot! Will definitely be back to enjoy their menu and continue boasting about their food and their service! Try this spot & thank me later!

Our first time in Miami and the spicy ramen here was amazing! Reminded us of when we lived in Okinawa, Japan! Highly recommend!!

Google
I was SO impressed with the food here! This might have been the best meal I had in Miami!! We had two ramens and a rice bowl and everything was on point. I am very picky about ramen and was not expecting it to be as good as it was but was so happy we stopped here on a whim. Also the staff was very friendly and I enjoyed the music!

Yelp
I love ramen. The place is definitely expensive, but you are in trendy Winwood so, what can one expect. Broth, noodles, pork belly, everything was cooked to perfection... except the egg The egg was half raw, which was less than desirable; however, the rest of the dish was so delicious I still gave it 4 stars. I just took the egg out of the bowl and ate the rest. I had the Tokusei Shoyu Ramen (cost $19). The music in the venue is super loud which, for me, diminished the whole experience as I couldn't hear my friends or have a conversation, so we just ate and left. My head hurt from the noise but my tastebuds were delighted.

Yelp
Tried the onigiri and I can say this place is a scam. Avoid at all costs. There is virtually no filling so you will be paying for rice.

Yelp
Sooooo yummy and good! Yes I ordered ramen in the heat and humidity of summer and loved it! Lol! I even sat outside for added effect. Recently came here on a visit and devoured the pork belly ramen. This meal was belly filling and had great portions. Be sure to ask for the Thai chili oil.

Yelp
Inside a cute food hall! I enjoyed the sando a lot. The chicken was delectable and the sando was filling. I would love to go back and get it again. It did take a little while but it was alright

Yelp
The ramen is probably top 3 in Miami. Broth is really good and they use the quality noodles. Not the top ramen noodles. Pro tip. Add the chili oil

Yelp
Came to check out the 1- 800 Lucky for court and decided to go with Ramen. I got the pork Ramen and honestly there was nothing in it. One piece of pork scallions and two pieces of bamboo shoots. It was pretty disappointing. They had other options but didn't look all that good and was really overpriced. Being in this location I understand that rent is probably high however what really made the experience extremely bad was the rude cashier. She had an attitude the whole time while I was ordering. Then afterwords when I got my Ramen and I asked for some hot chili oil she rudely told me no that's extra charge. Overall she made the experience extremely bad and I will not come back to try any other Ramen. Even my friend I was sitting across the room in our table saw her bad attitude.

Yelp
This place is located inside of 1-800 lucky which is a food hall with asian vendors. I ordered the Tokusei Shoyu Ramen which I give 7/10. Presentation was nice, noodles were great and broth was amazing. You have the option to choose either chicken or pork and I went with the chicken. Sadly, chicken had no flavor. I've had better ramen.. this was not it.

Yelp
This unassuming little stall in 1800-lucky actually has one of the best ramen I've ever had! The broth was SO good, I can just drink the whole thing by itself. Perfect eggs, perfect pork, perfect noodle texture. I don't know why there are mediocre reviews but this place is a must.

Yelp
Decided to get a fried chicken sando along with JFC Karage. Both dishes were extremely salty. Started with the Karage first, ended up just eating a couple pieces but we ate the garnish on top to help with the saltiness. When the cashier gave me my food, he said to squeeze the lemon on top because that's how you're supposed to eat it. It did not help with the flavor at all. Just made it salty and lemony. Next I tried the sando and I wanted to give the benefit of the doubt since it's prepared different or so I thought. It was just as salty with greens on the top and bottom. Spicy mayo on the bread as the condiment. Presentation wise, it did not look like a Japanese sando at all. Looked like any other sandwich.

Yelp
Great ramen but girl working tonight was absolutely terrible. Ordered ramen and forgot to get it to go. Asked her to change it and she handed me a to go container. Was very awkward to switch it over so I asked if they could help and she just told me to do it at another table instead of offering to help. As expected, I spilled it and the pork fell on the ground. Asked if she could replace it and she said sure but she would charge me. Expressed my frustration and she shrugged and smugly told me she didn't care. Great food but employees like this ruin a restaurant. FYI if anyone reading this cares she was working the register at 8pm on 12/19

Yelp
This isn't ramen, it's Chinese lo mein noodles. The pork is unflavored, and the broth is ok. Extremely overpriced for what you get. Best get. $2 ramen pack

Yelp
Usagi Tōkyō, the latest addition to the cafeteria at 1-800-Lucky, brings authentic Japanese ramen to South Florida that's comparable--and in many ways, superior--to Ichiran Ramen (a popular ramen-ya with locations throughout Japan, and in major metropolitan cities in the US, including New York and Los Angeles). That's a bold comparison, but I stand by it. I've never set foot inside an Ichiran branch without first waiting in a queue that resembled a soup line from the Great Depression. To be fair, that's party due to the plethora of customisable options Ichiran presents its customers with, and how they need to be filled out on a form, like a multiple choice exam. Anyway. Usagi doesn't have that problem. (And I don't mean that in a bad way.) In true Japanese fashion, the menu is simplified for maximum efficiency and consists of only four items: Shoyu- and Special Shoyu, Spicy- and Veggie Tan Tan. The Shoyu- and Special Shoyu contain grilled pork, bamboo shoots, scallion and parsley, and are served in a clear vegetable broth, with the Special containing boiled egg and extra pork. The Spicy- and Veggie Tan Tan are served in a creamy sesame paste that contains spicy chili oil, with the latter containing lettuce, tomato, carrot and other veggies, in lieu of pork. With the Veggie Tan Tan being as spicy as it is, I can only imagine how spicy the "Spicy" Tan Tan is. Better bring a gym towel.

Yelp
Very good service and presentation, but not my favorite ramen place. It's loaded noodles and low on the broth. The quality of the noodles wasn't my favorite either. The pork is decent quality and thin nice slices. Also, it is already an awkward place to eat ramen and the utensils don't make it more comfortable. They offer a very small spoon made of fragile plastic. Maybe I'll come back and ask for less of the noodles and more broth. They vegetable option seems good.

Yelp
One star for bad, possibly discriminatory service. White guy denied me the opportunity to order--no reason given--when just before my attempt to order and just after, orders were taken.

Yelp
Went by yesterday and was rudely told that I could not order because I was not wearing a mask. I did have a mask on me but I was told so rudely that I decided to give my business else where. After the fact I noticed the employees walking around maskless . What gives ? I shouldn't have to wear a mask to order something, come on guys.

Yelp
This ramen stall in 1800 Lucky is the best fro the quality to presentation and the service. The noodles are a great ramen texture not too fluffy or soft when its sitting in the broth. The pork was perfectly flavored. What makes a ramen bowl for me is the quality of the noodles and Usage definitely sealed the deal. I eat there at least twice a month and their bowls are a great size that you can eat some there and take some home for later.

Yelp
Horrible customer service ever! Today May 23rd I had a bad encounter with the cashier. She seemed like she didn't really liked her job from the beginning. Saying that if I didn't have a mask she couldn't even talk to me and turned her back on me. I placed the order with the mask and when my food was ready instead of leaving the food there for me to pick up rejected to give me the food unless I had the mask on, when I told her that the mask was not required if you had the vaccine (I did get the vaccine) instead of giving me the food that I already paid she was rude and right away started a refund process of my order like WHAT, then she said it was the owner who told her to act like that; so unprofessional. I got my refund and I took my money to the other rests that were super kind and awesome and gave me the best service without a mask. The funny part is that after I was eating my husband told me she was eating my food that I order... now that i am thinking maybe she was hungry? Lol. Please don't order here.
