Vibrant Memorial Park Review - Memorial - Houston - The Infatuation

"Whether you just ran a 5K around Memorial Park or need to stare existentially at some greenery, go to Vibrant, Houston’s secret garden restaurant. The all-day cafe next to Memorial Park’s Running Trails Center offers a panoramic view of native gardens, bright and wholesome food, and is usually full of runners sweating through expensive activewear. Vibrant embraces Houston’s scenery and reinforces the fact that, yes, we do have nature here. Check some emails over an iced chai and a crisp watercress salad with shredded chicken and bits of pickled apple worth scavenging for. Or, grab a seat on the patio with a stacked plate of savory masa pancakes hiding under a dollop of whipped cream and feel yourself slowly falling into a state of nature-induced calm. And while everything here tastes good and looks even better, the counter-service staff can be a little forgetful, and the prices are a bit steep for a casual cafe. Like a tiny $14 chia seed bowl that might feel like a prank. Just consider the nature therapy part of the price. photo credit: Liz Silva photo credit: Liz Silva photo credit: Liz Silva photo credit: Liz Silva Food Rundown photo credit: Liz Silva Coffee And Tea Vibrant doesn’t offer dairy milk, but does make rich and creamy cashew milk for all coffee and tea drinks. Like the warm-spiced turmeric latte with cinnamon and honey or the chocolate milk concoction called a “cacao potion” with adaptogenic chug mushrooms. photo credit: Liz Silva Masa Pancakes These sweet and savory pancakes taste of corn and what we assume is pure happiness. Topped with a lot of fruit and even more cashew cream, these pancakes are perfect to split. photo credit: Liz Silva Breakfast Tacos While Vibrant’s egg tacos still have a little grease, as any good breakfast taco should, the addition of microgreens, jalapeño salsa, and avocado makes this taco a tasty egg salad. Add on sauteed mushrooms for an even more earthy flavor. photo credit: Liz Silva Watercress Salad Maybe it’s weird to wax poetic about a simple watercress salad with tart vinaigrette and pickled apples, but wax we shall. Every bite is tart, crunchy, and sweet. It’s the perfect foil for a sweet dish or a refreshing bite on a hot day. photo credit: Liz Silva Sweet Potato Hash Vibrant’s hash is a classic, savory breakfast dish of sauteed sweet potatoes, fried eggs, and cheese. Only this cheese is made with cashews, making everything a bit nutty. If you love to add a lot of extra salsa to food, get this." - Chelsea Thomas

The Hit List: New Houston Restaurants To Try Right Now

"Vibrant’s second location has the best view in town. The all-day breakfast and lunch cafe located at Memorial Park’s Running Trails Center opens into a vaulted patio surrounded by colorful native wildflowers and thickets of trees. Similar to the original location, Vibrant serves dairy-, gluten-, and refined sugar-free food like crisp watercress salads with dijon and fluffy masa pancakes with floof of cashew foam and fruit preserves so good you won’t even miss the gluten-full kind. If you long to be nature-adjacent or want to sip bone broth or a turmeric latte between trail runs or jogging over Houston’s only land bridge, then bask in Vibrant’s glow." - gianni greene, chelsea thomas

If you want a nice place to sit and chill at Memorial park, this is the place. Get some bottled drinks, sit here and listen to the nature. Chicken Caesar salad tastes awful, too greasy and salty.

Here’s your review summarized: I’ve been a loyal fan of Vibrant for a long time, always choosing it when my friends ask where to eat. I used to love their previous location, their menu variety, and their consistency in quality. But lately, my friends have been hesitant to go, saying the food isn’t as good anymore. I’ve always defended it, but after today, I understand their concerns. I ordered the pesto kale bowl, which was incredible last time—bright, citrusy, well-seasoned, and full of flavor. Today, it was completely bland. Even after asking for extra pesto and lime, it lacked seasoning, and the kale was unseasoned. For the price, that’s disappointing. I also got the orange olive oil cake, which is usually moist and perfect. Today, it felt undercooked and slightly raw. The cookie, typically soft and delicious, was stale and hard. The one highlight was the coconut lime cloud drink—absolutely amazing. Beyond the food quality, I’ve noticed the menu has become more carb-heavy, with fewer vegetables and variety. They used to have a pad thai dish that was great, but now the options feel repetitive. Even the matcha, which I’ve raved about before, was bitter last time. On top of that, I’ve seen feedback about staff being unfriendly, and while that hasn’t been my personal experience, it’s something to consider. I really want Vibrant to succeed because I love healthy food and appreciate what they stand for, but they need to focus on quality, consistency, and customer experience. I hope they can turn it around.

Enjoyed lunch here today. It was our first time, and we knew it was healthy food, so we were eager to try it. My husband had the soft breakfast taco and masa pancakes with raspberries. Excellent. I had the sweet potato Gnocchi with arugula. Delicious! The atmosphere is super cool and the vibe is excellent. Great outdoor patio as well in our beautiful Memorial Park.

I m so grateful for a place like Vibrant! They truly use the best ingredients possible and make everything in house, including nut milk and bread, etc. Most of their produce are from local farms and sourced with integrity. Coffees are organic and single origin, personally I love the gold milk latte that the turmeric syrup is made in house with fresh ingredients. I m sensitive to gluten and I feel really good after eating Vibrant’s food. Everything is gluten free, dairy free and no refined sugar! It’s really rare to see a restaurant operates and protects these values bc they do loose certain customers and with a high food cost. Definitely one of the best healthy restaurants in Houston. If you are doing sugar free, or low carb they do have options!🤍 I just love this place and I hope people believe in the same values with them come support this restaurant and make this business sustainable 💕 ps current favorite: CRISPY CHICKEN SANDWICH! The concept is amazing, the location is beautiful with all window walls that are met with greener. This is a very fresh restaurant, have gone many times and will continue going.

The park makes it more special. Beautiful setting and great food go together well. Update: Still amazing and a slight change of menu items. The new-ish breakfast taco (add chicken sausage crumble), together with any of their in-house sauces is amazing. Whether the mango jalapeño (with a hint of lime) or the spicier habanero-blackberry sauce, you can’t go wrong, and their in-house chili crisp is an amazing addition to the taco. You’ll see the earlier version of their breakfast taco and then the new one. Don’t miss this place.

I love that there is a cafe a walkable distance from my home, and that it's located in the park! I ordered drip coffee with steamed cashew milk, loved it. The chocolate banana bread was delicious.

Google
I love that Houston has a restaurant that prioritizes real food with real ingredients without gluten and dairy. I was ecstatic when they reopened and even more ecstatic when I found out they were opening the memorial location which is closer to my house. While I don’t love everything on the menu I have my go-to favorites. Management goes the extra mile here for health - including glass containers for cashew milk versus plastic, reverse osmosis filtered water free for everyone to drink, and high quality ingredients. They have the absolute best gluten free bread I’ve ever tried. I buy it by the loaf occasionally and keep it in the freezer. I haven’t found a better matcha latte anywhere, not just Houston. Typically, I see the owner in there working the same way all the rest of the staff is. This is a special Houston establishment and I think the 3.7 star review on google is sub par for what they provide, which in my opinion is 5 star. Give it a try and keep an open mind!

Yelp
Coffee was amazing and the place was clean and modern. The service could be a little better, the girl at the cashier taking our order seemed a bit upset at something and was a bit cold with us but overall it was nice. I would visit again.

Yelp
I can't speak for the food, but if you are going to be a coffee shop - you have to... well... serve good coffee. I can get wanting to give in to new age sentiments and be dairy free, but for the majority of us (who drink milk fyi) you have to at least provide the most analogous whole milk alternative - oat milk. So when the server, with a whiff of superiority, motioned to their hemp milk option for my cappuccino, I was not expecting the most vile liquid to ever enter my mouth in Houston. You got a great place vibrant, love the vibes. But please, for the love of god, make better coffee.

Yelp
Nice to have a cafe near the trails. Nice place to stop for restroom, food or drink break. Enjoyed the views and ambiance. Entrees looked good but we went went dessert and drinks. Wasn't my favorite. Lacked flavor but pretty in picture.

Yelp
Love this coffee shop! They have a great healthy menu with a good variety of options. I love the chia pudding and tacos. The waiters are helpful and kind. Unfortunately the WiFi can be spotty and they don't really have outlets to charge up but otherwise it's a good vibe and not too loud.

Yelp
Had to come try this location as I love the Fairview one! As the weathers gotten nicer it was such a great place to visit in memorial park and I saw their outdoor seating getting a lot of use. I got the chicken tacos and they were absolutely delicious, the chipotle cashew crema as well, and two was a perfect filling portion! Everything tasted very refreshing. My girlfriend got the sweet potato hash and enjoyed it thoroughly. I really enjoyed their sweet potato cassava tortillas as well! I can't wait to come back it was such a nice experience. They have plenty of parking but it can get a bit packed in the lot. It's metered parking as well.

Yelp
I recently stopped by this cafe while on a walk at Memorial Park, and honestly, it was just okay. The space is nice with both indoor and outdoor seating, which makes it a convenient spot to relax if you're out on a walk or run. However, the selection of non-coffee drinks felt really limited, and the options they did have felt pretty basic. I was particularly disappointed by the Iced Matcha - it was $7 for an 8oz drink which was overpriced and didn't feel worth it. I did try their Root Veggie Muffin and i'm a fan of vegan muffins but this one was quite boring. To elevate it I would recommend Vibrant adds mini chocolate chips or a simple, not too sweet icing on top to elevate the flavor of the muffin. I do appreciate that they make a lot of their items in-house, but overall, the cafe didn't stand out. It's a decent stop if you're nearby, but nothing special. My experience was mostly based on a quick break for a small snack and I was seeking a refreshing drink. I do want to note they do have other food items and my friend did order a braised beef taco. She seemed to really enjoy it, so I would be willing to give this place another try!

Yelp
This is my favorite place in houston. Everything we've gotten is good. Only complaint is that they took short rib tacos off the menu and I wish they were open for dinner. Some of my favorites are the avocado toast with chili crisp (spicy and messy), the golden milk latte, and the GF crispy chicken sandwich. Servers are all nice and the atmosphere is great. Especially after walking in the park. It gets pretty crowded on the weekends but the food only takes about 15-20 min to come out. We accidentally went on Mother's Day and it took 45 but that was a special occasion.

Yelp
I came here the first time, and I really enjoyed the location and ambiance of the coffee shop so much that I decided to invite a friend to come check it out. As I was ordering my drink, I took about two seconds to see what milk I wanted and to my unfortunate surprise, the person who was taking our order ran out of patience and suggested to take my order in Spanish. I was confused about that remark since I had already ordered in English. The person who made that remark was wearing a mask and taking orders in the morning of Juneteenth day. I still stayed and was committed to showing my friend the coffee shop and tried to look past the initial experience but honestly I should've just left. This time around I ordered an iced matcha latte and it was super bland, it was my first time ordering one there. I really wish I would've been able to show my friend a good experience.

Yelp
I'm surprised this restaurant doesn't have 5 stars off the bat! I've never had a bad meal here. I've had a variety of things on the menu. My favorite it the gnocchi but I recently tried the chicken sandwich and it was delicious. I love knowing I'm eating completely healthy here. You can't even tell it's gluten and dairy free! It is pricey though and it's a bummer you have to pay for parking.

Yelp
Advertising in the establishment, social media and the website that they are gluten free is wild. This no longer a safe gf facility because they are replacing the gf flour with "organic grain flour" because they think celiac is just due to chemicals in the food and not due to wheat, barley and rye. So if you're celiac or have a wheat allergy, this is no longer a safe option!!! Please beware of hidden gluten and risk for cross contamination! It's not safe to have even 1 product that has gluten when advertising as a gluten free place.

Yelp
I absolutely LOVE the location off Shepherd, so I was pleasantly surprised to see another location open near Memorial Park. The space is beautifully minimalist with plenty of natural light. I had one of my children with me last time, so I asked the cashier what would be less messy: their special toast with jam (didn't know the consistency of the jam) or one of the muffins (didn't know if it was super crumbly). He suggested the toast with jam for something like $14, and I got a piece of damp, heavy bread with a huge slop of strawberry jam. It was impossible to eat without getting severely messy. For $14, I would've expected a lot more too. We ended up throwing it out. Otherwise, I do like the place!

Ms L.

Yelp
I thought Vibrant was gluten free, since their website has said so (see photo) but the Houston Gluten free community has made me aware that Vibrant is now not celiac friendly, and they changed things up without any major announcements which is pretty problematic when it comes to food safety. To make things worse, they are now replying in a very rude fashion to people who DM them about things not being gluten free claiming it was never meant to be for celiacs Edited to add: ive been a customer for YEARS, but not for the taste of the food ..just for the ingredients. The taste is average. Now that i know cross contamination is an issue, i will take my business elsewhere.

Yelp
Such a great place for breakfast!!! I love how fresh the food tastes. You can definitely tell they are using high quality ingredients. There are great choices for people with allergies, especially to dairy or gluten, which is awesome! It is perfect that this restaurant is next to a park because you have great views and can go for a nice walk after eating. The inside is also super adorable, great for taking aesthetic photos. Service is good too. The only downside to this place is that it can be a bit pricey. Definitely give this place a try though!

Fatima Z.

Yelp
I thought I would give this place another chance since it's in such a great location but once again my friend and I received poor customer service and the coffee was underwhelming! Would not recommend!!! If you're looking for delicious coffee and a welcoming environment; this is not it!!

Yelp
Solid cafe spot for a memorial park break! Their menu is a bit limited but their outdoor and indoor space is a perfect stop to chat, study, or rest in memorial park. The lemon ginger spritz was amazing. Skip the breakfast taco - apparently it's the most popular item but I was underwhelmed for it being $5.

Yelp
Love this menu! Great quick bite before a family walk or stroll. The staff provided suggestions on what to order and it didn't disappoint! Menu has things that will satisfy teething babies, health conscious eaters, and big appetites.
