Vic’s Review - NOHO - New York - The Infatuation

"If you eat at restaurants a lot, you might keep some sort of running list of them. If you eat in restaurants as much as we do, you might keep many lists of them. Or maybe you’re one of those people who just keeps everything saved in your brain like a human hard drive. Want to trade brains? Our lists range from “New Places To Try ASAP” to “Old Places You Want To Go Back To” to “Places To Go When It Feels Like There Is Nothing Good In The World.” Then there’s the list that Vic’s has a spot on: “Easy Places That Aren’t Bad.” It might not be the most exciting category, but back-pocket utility restaurants are important. Vic’s is the sort of spot that saves you when you’ve agreed to meet a friend for dinner somewhere not too far from Union Square, and she suggested The Smith but you’ve been to The Smith way too many times. Or when you’re meeting an early-in-the-game date and you want a bar move where you could also eat something. Or when you somehow convince yourself to go to a workout class on a Saturday, and want to eat something afterwards without having to change or deal with a two-hour wait. To be clear, this is a place where it’s only borderline acceptable to wear your sweaty tank top, but you can get away with it. Maybe pack an extra layer. But Vic’s doesn’t just get a spot on our list because of logistics. The Italian-ish food is also solid, from the pastas to the pizzas to the healthier stuff like roasted vegetables and salads. It’s not going to blow minds, but pretty much anyone you bring here will leave happy. They might even put it on their list." - Katherine Lewin

How to Spend a Big Fat Gay Pride Weekend in New York City | Bon Appétit

"Many of the dishes on chefHillary Sterling’smenu are permanent fixtures—and that’s for good reason. The borsa, a ricotta-filled pasta that resembles a tiny purse, in particular should not be missed, whether you’re by yourself or a party of six. The crispy squid with Calabrian chili, whipped pecorino, and soppressata pizza are other hits, and all together make this spot a go-to for when I’ve got family, picky eaters, or a large party to feed. Sterling has that magic touch where everything she makes is a crowd pleaser." - ByAndy Baraghani

From the City Market family behind Vic’s, this slice-focused outpost serves late-night pies to Glenwood’s crowds. Covered by The News & Observer, it extends a decades-long Raleigh legacy into the heart of downtown nightlife.

I work very close to this location and was there the day it opened…Ive been to almost all the restaurants and food halls downtown and I’ve been holding off on writing a review for this place in the hope that they were fine tuning their recipes. Well today is the day and honestly the five star reviews are lies. The pizza, which is all I order, is meh at best. Today I got the $15.55 two slice lunch special, one sausage the other pepperoni…the dough is floppy for an thin crust and you can see in the pictures the pizza is premade with the topping tossed on. The sausage taste “chemically” while the pepperoni is nice. I work less than a minute drive down the street, but the pizza is cold by the time I get there. They just warm the slices up to curl the toppings…which is hardly acceptable for the price. Now I know pizza by the slice is premade but for the same price you can get a freshly made Calzone or Stromboli. Don’t call it a special if it’s not. The lunch two slice special is pure robbery and disrespectful to your lunch customers. It’s probably why there are hardly any customers there at lunch time. The people who work in the area have so many good, affordable options to choose from. ..charging $15 for two premade slices is a joke for $1 worth of ingredients and $1 of someone’s time. The cashier is extremely polite, the shop is clean and accessible. High points for presentation, low points for the pizza and affordability. Shame on them for charging an outlandish price for two slices of premade pizza. Offer a suitable deal at lunch for locals and I promise your lunch business will pick up. Look at La Santa for an affordability reference as they have a steady stream of customers at lunch time…and the specials are actually priced as specials. The lunch chimichangas filling and fresh. I’ll give you another example of the pricing…they charge $23 for a bowl of spaghetti, Gravy on Hargett charges $17. The Glenwood markup is not 10000% over ingredient and labor cost. I really think their business plan is to rob you once and not worry about you coming back.

My girlfriend picked this place to go to the other day. The girl working the cash register was super friendly and fun to chat with. We started with the garlic knots, which were fine, probably could have used a little more garlic, but again they were alright. I will say the pizza was just ok, I got the New Yorker pie, again, it was just ok, it was a bit runny with the sauce and not that it was undercooked, but it was definitely really soft, something on the lines of squishy, there was really no crunch to the pizza. This is coming from someone who grew up in New Jersey and New York who knows their pizza. Lastly I got a calzone to go just filled with cheese. This was a redeeming item, it was really good, only gripe was that it had a little less than half the center was filled with the cheese. More than half of the calzone was just the bread. I wouldn’t put this place as a top pick for pizza, just saying.

They are amazingly accommodating. My son has cheese aversion and they made me have tomato half cheese pizza so he could enjoy it. It was AMAZING! If in downtown Raleigh this is a must stop. Take it from a former New York City boy, this is definitely worth the stop

Google
I've been on a quest to find the best slices in the area and that brought me to Vics this week. I found them to be a very solid offering landing in my personal top 3 or 4 for the Raleigh area based on taste. They have a very clean and modern decore inside. That service was really good. My only very small complaint is that I found the slices to be a little small for the price. They were delicious... But my top slice places cost about the same but are close to twice as big. On the other hand, those places aren't open till 2:30 in the morning on weekends! So there is that. The garlic knots were okay. No complaints, just didn't blow my hair back.

Google
Best NY slice in Raleigh. Glad to see the Glenwood location has the same quality as the city market location. Great addition to the area. We will definitely be back.

We ordered appetizers garlic knots, no taste just bread and the marinara tasted as poured out of a can, the meatballs were ok but the pizza was great

Google
Best pizza place in Raleigh. Amazing service!! The owner I think named Micheal was truly one of the nicest people I’ve met. The pizza came out fast and it was so fresh I could see him making it. Right when I walked into the restaurant all I felt was positive vibes. I will definitely be back!

I love this place! The people are so nice, and the pizza is freshly made, good, and reasonably priced. So are the drinks! We’ve been multiple times and will continue to go. Highly recommend!

Yelp
If you are looking for a great thin crust New York style pizza Vic's is your place. Great under carriage, just the right amount of sauce and cheese. We had a half/half made of the Mexican and a customer pie. Michael the owner is super accommodating and the environment is convenient and relaxed. If you are staying across the street at the Casso or in town check them out. Two thumbs up!!!

Yelp
Thought ordering two pizzas through Slice App. So busy tonight that couldn't do delivery. So I had to change order for pickup. Unfortunately, the complexity of the App provide four, not two pizzas. It will take my son and I forever to eat four large pizzas. The four pizzas: two cheese, one pepperoni, and one onion, are delicious. There is a reason why Vic's Glenwood South had a solid five star rating at the time of this review. The food is always incredible. Great NY/Jersey style pizza. In future, I will call and not use the Slice App. The restaurant is in the trendy Glenwood South area. Be aware that there is no free parking near by. But it's worth it!!

Yelp
The food and music was amazing and the server was great! We got a Hawaiin and a New Yorker pizza. We also got their signature sauce and dipped some pizza crust in it. It was amazing! Our server Bennet was also really silly and nice! Overall amazing restaurant! I love Vic's!

Yelp
Vic's was a good lunch experience. My husband and I split a house salad and small New Yorker pizza. I liked the pizza; however, the salad was a joke. We wanted balsamic vinaigrette dressing but go balsamic oil instead (did not know that we needed to specify that). I would recommend parking on the street instead of the lot across from it because it charges way too much.

Yelp
We were at Incendiary having a beer and decided to order pizza. Vic's has QR codes on the tables for ordering. You just enter INC-your table number when you order and they run it over to you. They brought plates, parm, crushed red pepper, & napkins-everything you need! The large is 18" and is huge. The crust had a lovely crispness and the sauce is flavorful. We had the Hawaiian which had plentiful toppings. Also the mozzarella had a nice cheese pull and was buttery. Next time we will order the smaller size and split an app or stop in for lunch slices! Highly recommend this place.

Yelp
Great, affordable New York style pizza in Raleigh!! They offer a diverse menu of small bites and large plates. The food is always fresh and consistently good. I love that the pizza is super cheesy and not greasy! The service is always superb--attentive and quick. And parking is plentiful as it's a shared lot with other shops. A must visit if you are in northeast Raleigh!

Yelp
Service was great from the moment we walked in. We were greeted at the door, told the specials and given time to look over the menu. We went with the special of the day and was not disappointed at all! The interior is clean and inviting. We got our pizza to go to take next door to the brewery and we were told that if we wanted next time that we could order while at the brewery and they would walk it over highly recommend!

Jeff D.

Yelp
Ordered a large pizza, half and half with one half custom ingredients. They produced a delicious pie with exactly ingredients (fresh and tasty) I appreciated that the man who waited on me took time to chat about Italy when I mentioned my grandparents were from there. Good service, good food, new location, one of three in Raleigh!

Yelp
I just received my first pizza delivery from this new Vic's location, but haven't visited in person. The small "New Yorker" was cooked to perfection and still hot upon arrival with crispy crust. I was impressed since they are newly opened. Oher pizzas within the area don't compare qualty-wise so I think this is a great addition to the neighborhood. Can't wait to visit and I'm keeping them on my lunch list.

Yelp
Food and service were fantastic!! Cat was super friendly and made me a great late night slice!

Yelp
Excited to see Vic's open a pizza place on this side of town. The pizza was amazing as was the service. NY style, with a perfect crispy crust, solid flavor, perfect sauce and cheese. I think this is even better than the old city market location. They also have some solid lunch deals under $12 and delivery. Highly recommended by this pizza lover.

Yelp
Great pizza. A bit greasy and a bit overpriced but the best pizza I've had since I moved to Raleigh in July. I will be back.

Michael L.

Yelp
Just opened on Glenwood South. Quick service. Great lunch specials. Open until 2:30 AM Friday and Saturday nights. This is a must try pizzeria.

Adrian C.

Yelp
Ordered an 18' New Yorker and it did not disappoint! Crust was perfect and the ingredients tasted super fresh! 10/10 would recommend

Peter S.

Yelp
Lived in NYC for years and this is better! Amazing crust and sauce as good as my Nanna's!
