Step into Victoria Pastry, a charming North Beach bakery since 1914, where you can indulge in heavenly homemade Italian treats like tiramisu, cannoli, and exquisite princess cake, all best enjoyed outdoors with a coffee in the vibrant neighborhood.
"Sugar rushes are inevitable at Victoria Pastry, a pusher of the sweet stuff since 1914. Sample classics like tiramisu and cannoli, or go big with slices of rich layer cakes. This classic bakery is known for Easter egg-hued princess cake layered with raspberry, whipped cream, custard, and triple sec. But don’t skip the fedora — the dense chocolate cake is loaded with chocolate cream and rum. There are a couple of tables outside, but these sweets are best enjoyed with a coffee in the park." - Paolo Bicchieri
"Don’t be daunted by the display case at Victoria Pastry Company—it’s hard to go wrong. But some things are worth prioritizing at this North Beach bakery. The cookies are solid, with the usuals like oatmeal raisin and chocolate chip, but slices of cake should make up most of your pastry haul. Focus on the princess cake with a layer of tart raspberry jam and a thin coating of marzipan that disintegrates as soon as it hits your tongue. Leave space in that pastry box for the just-sweet-enough black and white, as well as the tres leches that’s thoughtfully packed in a tray to catch any free-flowing milk. There’s no indoor seating, but there are a few outdoor tables, and Washington Square is right across the street." - Patrick Wong
