Vida Verde in Hell’s Kitchen Has Silky, Ultra-Cold Frozen Margarita | Eater NY

"For now, while walking through New York feels like wading through a sloppy bowl of gumbo, I drink my frozen margaritas at Vida Verde, which opened last July in Hell’s Kitchen. Some nights it’s a packed, DJ-driven party — complete with a DJ wearing over-ear headphones and walls hung with photographs of pretty people in Día de los Muertos face paint drinking blue cocktails — an atmosphere that tips its hat to Tao; most nights, though, it’s pretty chill, so you grab a seat at the bar and order a margarita. The mixture — fresh lemon and lime juice, Goza blanco tequila, cane syrup, and Combier orange liqueur — is piped out of a frozen margarita maker: beverage director Lucas Wilde makes the drink in batches, lets the mixture chill in a 40-gallon cooler, and then force-feeds it into a 10-gallon mixer. The result borders on silky with almost none of the ice crystals you notice elsewhere; texturally it’s closest to a movie-theater Icee but markedly colder, the chill stinging the tongue and recalling the nitro burn of Dippin’ Dots, often causing a massive, momentary headache. That extreme temperature and bright acidity make these margaritas an essential foil for tacos with fatty, smoky chorizo or the oversized “personal nachos,” but honestly the margaritas stand alone — they’re $14 each and I’m calling them a BUY; I’ve rarely left without having two." - Ryan Sutton

We went on a Monday around 2pm. Not many people there. We sat on the patio since we had our pup with us. Dog friendly was a huge plus, great views of the little lake as well. They play amazing music, great service, and the food was delicious! We got the queso fundido, smothered tamales and barbacoa enchiladas. I can't comment on the drinks since we didn't get any as we were headed back to Fort Worth. Overall 10/10

What a fabulous little gem near the Domain! I dropped by for a Sunday morning breakfast on a recent visit to Austin and was completely blown away by the food. I had gotten in before they got busy and hence the service was lightning fast! The chilaquiles are a chef's kiss! I ordered them with some over medium, sunny side up eggs, chorizo, and hashbrowns instead of rice and beans! The sauteed chips were so tender and flavorful, and the chorizo added the perfect spicy, tangy kick. Paired up with some freshly squeezed orange juice, it was the best breakfast I have had at a restaurant in a while! Last but not the least, they had a killer playlist too! Can't wait to go back again!

This spot is a hidden gem! It’s new and a bit tucked away, so it was pretty empty. My family and I came here for a birthday and were very satisfied, the food was great and the staff was so polite and welcoming. The only downside was the mimosa options $12 per person plus $2 just to add a splash of flavored juice feels overpriced. A bottomless mimosa or carafe option would be a much better value. Overall, though, we really enjoyed it and I’d definitely come back!

Google
Thank you Vida Verde for an AWESOME lunch! In town from Nashville for a soccer match and after looking at reviews we landed on Vida Verde. What a win 🎉🥳🙌🏼 I got the Avacodo tacos and my husband landed on the fish tacos…so yummy. Our waiter recommended the harvest guacamole and it was served with fresh made thick corn chips. Everything was extremely fresh and nothing disappointed. Austin locals don’t miss this spot…I promise, delicious 🤤

Google
We were in the area after a track meet and found this spot.. 3 stars is strictly for the food vs taste vs price.. guac was good but the eggs (yolk) had a weird taste.. I always get my eggs over easy anywhere but here, they weren't good at all.. We had a party of 5 but I can only speak for the food I tried.. 3 kiddos' meals were apparently good.. ours (my bf & I) were a little off.. asked for crispy potatoes and hash browns, they both fell short.. crispy bacon made up for them though.. Our server Angel was nice and attentive which made for a good visit. The place was clean and esthetically cute.. We don't live around this area, so probably won't be going back..

Me and three of my friends came here on a Tuesday after my cousin who is related to the owners asked me to try it out. The food was amazing, we got two The Stack (chicken and the ribeye), Gourmet Burger, Wings, and Cheese Curds for appetizer. And my friends loved the dish they ordered, I got the Chicken Stack and it was delicious with every bite. We all also got Orchata and I kid you not we were fighting the urge to get refills lol, one of my friends gave in and kept getting refills. Our waitress was really nice and kept making sure everything was good and checking to see if we needed anything else like refills. Definitely going to spread the word and come back 💯 Thank you for having us.

Google
Nice new spot to grab apps at. HH is awesome 1-6 everyday. Angel was our server. He recommended some great drinks. Crispy Avocado tacos were very tasty. Free chips and salsa with entrees. Music was great. Good vibes out on the patio

Google
This food seriously was ridiculously amazing a hidden gem. I'm actually regretting that i'm submitting this review.Because this will be one of the places I go back to when I come to austin. The salsa the corn dip. My godThe corn dip alone should be absolutely illegal. The made from scratch guacamole also ridiculous, and I haven't even got to any of the main portions of the rest of the meal. Just go and find out for yourselves.

Yelp
Food is very fresh and flavorful! Waitstaff always provide good service. Definitely worth a try!

Yelp
We were shopping for furniture nearby and became hungry and wanted a late lunch. I Yelped Mexican food and the reviews and location of Vida Verde Kitchen seemed like a good match for us. Yelp was right again. The outside looks a bit industrial but the inside was very well laid out and had high end but still whimsical touches. We probably should have sat outside because of the view but it was so nice inside we sat there. The only thing I didn't love about sitting inside was there was a strong odor of cleaning products that would occasionally waft through when the breeze came through. I mean I'm glad the restaurant is clean but it could be a bit strong at times. The service was good. The server was friendly and made sure we had what we needed. Even making recommendations for next time. Okay finally to the food. The menu has a lot of variety. It's not just Mexican food, so I feel like on one hand their are some items that seem random, on the other hand I think anyone could find something to eat here. I had the tamales with rajas with a side of beans and Mexican rice. The masa was really light and fluffy and the filling had a lot of flavor. The Verde sauce pulled all the flavors together and kept the tamales from being dry. And by the way, the portions are huge! Three big tamales with rice and beans. I was able to take home lunch for the next day. For a drink, I took advantage of the everyday happy hour and had a blended house margarita. Really nice flavor, not too sweet at all and that complimented the rest of the meal very well. My husband had the tilapia fajitas. Again very generous portions. Well cooked and seasoned tilapia on a bed of vegetables. He watches his carbs, so he was able to choose a salad as his side. He was very happy with his meal and also took home leftovers. One side note all of the food was mild on the heat scale. Ask for hot sauce if you want more zip. Next time I'll ask if they have a hotter salsa. We were just very hungry so we dug in, as is. I feel like over all this is a fun place to have a meal. The decor and ambiance makes the location feel higher end but the vibes are still casual. The prices seem a little high until you see the massive portions. And special shout out to the free chips and salsa. The tortilla chips seemed freshly made and we're very addictive. I look forward to coming back for the steak chilanquiles that the server recommended for next time. Excited to try new restaurants in my new town of Austin!

Yelp
This restaurant is nestled among the condos, businesses and apartments off of Braker and can be found with ear on GPS and eyes searching for signage. The atmosphere is really great here, although the space is enormous! The area near the bar is large enough to need a few servers. AND that's just a portion of the restaurant. But, even post brunch hour, there were plenty of people to quickly seat and serve us. The server was very attentive and helpful. The food was brought very soon after we ordered....AAAAAAAND.... ....and it seems like I'm rambling without talking food, huh? And I am. The food was decent and tasty. I might even try it again if I lived in the area just to avoid The Domain. But there's the rub...Vida Verde is close to dozens of other other eateries and within a holler of five dozens more. This restaurant's food didn't bring a unique punch for me to make it worth finding again. Im guessing the bar and dinner are Tony the Tiger, big-time Grrreat for the area residents. But with The Arboretum, Domain, Lakeline and 183 corridor offering immensely more unique food? I'll just say it was a pleasant visit. AND go if its convenient to you, its a great neighborhood addition.

Yelp
Nice decor, friendly service, plenty of patio seating, and a ton of potential. My friend thought her Mediterranean quinoa bowl was okay, but felt a bit imbalanced and lacked punch. I went with their namesake salad which was loaded with delicious adobo marinated chicken. I wish the jalapeno ranch was served on the side as stated on the menu, but I'm not someone who loves a lot of dressing. The tortilla chips they served as a free starter were the best I've had in recent memory. I will totally come back for a cold beverage, chips, and guac. Is there such a thing as too expansive a menu? If so, that might be Vida Verde's downfall. I think they should lean into the Mexican dishes because it's where they shine and would give them a clearer identity in a city with an abundant restaurant scene.

Yelp
We had a great experience! If you can't find something other menu, that's on you! They have a bigger menu than Cheesecake Factory, and everything we had was Delicious!! Great gluten free options as well. Angel our server was knowledgeable and attentive. The space itself is Instagram worthy! Beautiful balcony outside too. Highly recommend this new gem!!

Yelp
We tried the tacos and chips with guacamole, and honestly, everything was just okay. The tacos weren't bad, but they didn't really stand out--pretty average flavor and nothing that wowed us. The guacamole was decent, but again, nothing memorable. Overall, the food felt kind of mediocre and didn't live up to expectations. I also ordered passionfruit spicy margarita and honestly it was good but didn't even taste like passionfruit. Service was great. The interior vibe is really cute but it's a hit on the pricy side for what you get. The taco? Guac and one drink was $60

Yelp
First time here. 11:30am Friday. The location was not busy, so I was greeted and seated immediately. The server was also the bar tender. He was super attentive and friendly. I really liked the ambience, it had an Instagram friendly vibe. There is a full bar and plenty of seating. By the time I arrived I was still able to order from the brunch menu. The complimentary chips and salsa were made in house, super fresh and great flavor! I ordered the breakfast tacos on corn with a side of fruit. I enjoyed every bite! I cannot wait to come back and try more menu items!

Yelp
We stopped by Vida Verde for a Sunday lunch, and it was such a pleasant surprise. The space used to be an old pizza buffet, but it's been completely transformed into a bright, clean, and inviting restaurant with a modern vibe. The ambiance alone sets the tone for a great meal. The menu has a wide variety of options, and I was especially happy to find so many vegetarian-friendly choices. I went with the veggie burger, which was hearty, flavorful, and incredibly filling. The side salad that came with it was so generously portioned it could have been a meal on its own--and with a side of chipotle ranch, it was absolutely delicious. My boyfriend ordered tacos and really enjoyed them. He shared that the beef was high-quality, the avocado was super fresh, and each taco came with two tortillas, which kept everything neat and intact. He also appreciated the clean setting, friendly service, and how well-seasoned and flavorful everything was. The staff was warm and attentive throughout our visit, and prices were very reasonable considering the portion sizes. Vida Verde is definitely a welcome addition to the area and a great go-to for a laid-back, yet satisfying weekend lunch.

Yelp
This is really cute place the ambiance is very welcoming bright with a indoor and outdoor bar with a small view! I only had a glass of wine ,but the service was good.

Yelp
This is our second time here. My husband found it on the map while we were shopping near by. We were highly impressed. Great service, fun music, cool atmosphere and delicious Mexican food! We think this lil new spot (open 4 months now) is Austin's best kept secret. We are enjoying the small crowds, until everyone gets word and starts packing the place! Haha I'm vegetarian and my husband is not. We have both thoroughly enjoyed the dishes we've ordered. The freshly made Harvest guacamole is flavorful and their homemade chips are a favorite of ours! We will definitely come again.
google avatar

Jennifer P.

Yelp
We ordered the fajitas and it was amazing! We usually order fajitas at other places and the chicken is always dry but this place, it was juicy! We also ordered the cheese cake with the Mexican caramel...OMG, it was delicious! Definitely coming back. Lis was helping us and she was FANTASTIC! Also, the place is beautiful!

Yelp
We happened to see a new restaurant pop up in a space we've seen a few restaurants come and go and after a day in the sun, figured a patio meal would be great whether it was super delicious or not. Let me skip to the end...it was NOT delicious. We ordered apps and drinks and the apps were so bad and the menu SO wrong we bolted and was lucky to find a table next door at The Roaring Fork. Our waiter was friendly and prompt and the space itself was nice enough, but who planned the menu here? It was like a less expansive Chilis menu. We tried to start with a bit of Mexican, figuring it's hard to mess up guacamole and queso fundido but yeesh. The queso fundido had some overcooked meat and so very little cheese we laughingly ordered a second one just so we had enough to share to take the hunger edge off. No smooth, stretchy, bubbly deliciousness...it was awful. And if customers order "market price" guacamole and two queso fundidos...for the love of god, bring out a salsa. Nope, we needed to order SALSA as a separate appetizer. The menu was so odd - like the restaurant didn't know what it was going for so just threw a little bit of everything on there. A couple of sandwhiches, caprese salad...Mediterranean quinoa...bandito fries? A whole specialty fries menu? If the drinks had been good and the food fresh and tasty, we would have stayed, even if the menu was weird. I can count on one hand the number of times we've left a place after trying apps in my life!

Yelp
Food quality- excellent Service- excellent Portions-excellent Ambiance-excellent Great new restaurant. Will be making this a staple spot!

Kaylin S.

Yelp
3 stars cause the service and atmosphere was fabulous. That was what made the place worth the visit for instagram. Our serve was so attentive and incredible, so positive with energy. Food? Meh. Won't come back for the overpriced drinks and food. The barbacoa enchiladas definitely needed salt and lots of flavor. The Mexican rice was well...missing a lot... The birria was unsurprisingly disappointing, had more flavor than the enchiladas but for that price? Could get better ones at a food truck. This place has potential if they can figure out their recipes. I cannot understand spending this amount of money just for the atmosphere alone. Can't even imagine taking my family here without them trashing on how they ruin our easiest family's recipes. Go for the pictures, leave before placing the order.
google avatar

Oreo R.

Yelp
The menu has a great variety, enough for picky eaters, carb-conscious moms, and big hungry men!
google avatar

Gregory S.

Yelp
The Service was very good. Server I got was Liz. Liz is very attentive and seemed Knowlagable on the menu. Looks like they will let you order from the Kids Menu I ordered the Kids Ham and Cheese Omelet with Hashbrowns 9.00 very affordable if you are on a budget. The ambiance is not to fancy they do have Cloth Napkins and a tv or 2 the restroom was clean and nice apparently they have breakfast all day not sure though
google avatar

Yelp
One of the best margarita and bowl combinations I've probably ever had! Very friendly service and clean restaurant.
google avatar

Gail H.

Yelp
Oh my. Very delicious food and drink. I'm concerned about the location and joe long this restaurant will last because it's not visible from the main road, but I would DEFINITELY go back. Nice deck in the back overlooking a quarry lake. Great indoor atmosphere. Yep, 2nd visit might be in the works.

Julia B.

Yelp
We tried Viva Verde on a weeknight whim and were pleasantly surprised. We sat on the patio that had a great view of the quarry lake and started with chips and salsa which were super tasty - great thick, fresh tortilla chips. We ordered Chicken Tinga tacos with rice & beans and Steak Tacos with street corn. The tacos were great, the street corn was delicious, and the rice and beans were just ok. The margaritas were great, too. Overall we were really happy with our meal and are excited to have a new restaurant in the area! One last note - while we didn't sit inside, I would say the ambience is not as pleasant as outside. The lighting needs to be warmer, whatever bulbs they used are too stark white. It's also a bit echoey due to the architecture, hoping they can create a little more warmth indoors for when the patio is not available.
google avatar

Mario G.

Yelp
Positive work in progress. The service was excellent, the food was acceptable, the energy i can see and feel a quick tweak will make this place a success. I will come again though.

Chandy P.

Yelp
Awesome service & delicious food! We decided to check out Vida Verde for Father's Day brunch and it did not disappoint. We will definitely be back!

Liza P.

Yelp
We loved this place! Drinks were delicious, they made me a frozen pina colada even though they didn't have it on the menu! My boyfriend got the house margarita and loved it! The tacos and tamales were delicious as well. Very cute place, great service, great vibes! Wil definitely be back

Ana P.

Yelp
Was looking for a vegetarian option and I went with the Mediterranean Quinoa Salad. I definitely recommend. Will not be disappointed

C D.

Yelp
This building has been a lot of restaurants recently. But the inside is great, the patio has a very nice view. I like that there's a Guac and salsa bar where they make fresh salsas. The beef tacos were very good, but the house margs were just ok to me. specialty margs looked good on menu- but we didn't try them. Food options are diverse- but we only tried a few things. Service was friendly and attentive. Could be a very good spot to watch games on the patio in the fall

Jenna H.

Yelp
I can't believe I'm writing this but this place has the WORST chairs I've ever sat in. It's so bizarre that a restaurant where you have to sit picked the most uncomfortable chairs on the planet. Besides that, ordered the Greek fries. No one was in the restaurant except two girls at the bar and the fries STILL came out cold. The only reason I'm giving it 3 stars is because the bartender was super sweet and the drinks were strong.

Brian P.

Yelp
The food was delicious, service was great; very attentive but not annoying. Solid recommendations from the staff too. Had the Barbacoa Enchilada's, verde sauce was bright and tangy and sour cream sauce on the side was a nice touch. I will be back.

Yelp
If you haven't tried vida verde don't walk, RUN!!! Good food , good drinks, good vibes! Went for their grand opening everything was amazing from food to staff to drinks . Will be going back. Highly recommend it.

Paula M.

Yelp
The food was AMAZING! The waitress as awful. I hope that they help their wait staff grow because this place could be great!

Adriana A.

Yelp
I had the chilaquiles and they were soooo good!! the staff is very friendly. Great experience & will definitely be back!

Tara W.

Yelp
Loved this new restaurant. The salsa was absolutely fantastic. Really good fresh thick chips. Large portions and everything was fresh and tasty.

Michael C.

Yelp
Decided to stop in for lunch. This place delivers!! The queso blanco and homemade tortilla chips were amazing. Topped that off with an order of their delicious tacos. Angel was great and made sure that we were taken care of. Now, I just need to make more excuses to travel into Austin!!!

Kayleigh D.

Yelp
We gave Vida Verde a chance for a friend lunch and were blown away. Great environment, great food, great drinks. The patio is so comfortable (even in Texas). Super impressed with all of the effort. Shoutout to our waiter, Angel!

Lexi N.

Yelp
Vida Verde Kitchen blew my expectations out of the water! Our server, Hank was friendly and accommodating. The atmosphere made it feel like I was in a jungle. Everything we ate was delicious and fresh. I ordered the harvest guacamole and fiesta fajitas. Yum!! We finished with the Mexican fried ice cream, and let's say I'll be back and order it again!
