Walloon Lake Inn

We have gone two years in a row for our daughter's birthday and plan to make it a tradition! The atmosphere, service and food are phenomenal. I love the big windows that look out over the water. I feel pampered and appreciated from walking in the door until leaving. All staff are so friendly and pleasant. The food and drinks are served beautifully and taste incredible. I look forward to my daughters next birthday and dining there again!

EXTREMELY! DISAPPOINTED! I made reservations weeks in advance for my 15 year anniversary. Used Open Table with a credit card to insure a table. If I wouldn’t have shown up they would have charged me a $90.00 no show fee. When making reservations I requested 2 people for outside seating and specifically let them know it’s my 15 year Anniversary. I even confirmed the reservation the day before. After driving 4 hours to eat there they didn’t have my table available. They then told us for us to sit outside it would be over an hour wait. We sat inside with no view of the water and watched as tables outside sat empty the whole time. Honestly, it ruined the night for me. I was so disappointed and upset. Then comes the food. Presentation was amazing but taste was just ok. I really love a hood filet. For $65.00 it should at least taste better than Texas Roadhouse. I think server knew we were disappointed so she showed little effort and hardly stopped by. Management never once apologized which also shocked me. We’ve had better service from far less expensive places to eat. Honestly can’t say I’d ever make any effort to go back and drop over $150.00 for a place that doesn’t honor their commitments nor seem to care one way or another. I don’t think I’ll ever forget this one. UPDATE: Walloon Lake responded to my review. HOWEVER, It was definitely NOT a “last minute reservation”. It was over a week in advance and confirmed the night before. Manager not even apologizing and sticking me in the corner was NOT the same nor a beautiful view. This was NOT a good experience no matter how it’s spun.

My favourite restaurant in the area. Never disappoints. Food is great, atmosphere is great and the service is great. One of the best creme brulees.

So unfortunately I've been coming here for years and though the service and atmosphere of the restaurant is stellar. The food has fallen off. At least when it comes to the main course. Then to have the manager come over and invalidate every concern I had from the beginning. Losing my cool with them on the third time. Showing what kept me coming back was the chicken Marsala, which used to be amazing. Picture with sauce was in April being outstanding. The other being the new standard for a restaurant I loved coming to.

New favorite! Service is outstanding from the moment you arrive! Food is amazing! Carrot cake is one of the best I've ever had. Outdoor dining ambiance is first class. Great place for a special occasion. Already looking forward to returning. Be sure to book a reservation in advance.

My partner and I came here for our 3 year anniversary. Food was incredible. I had the herb ravioli for an appetizer and my partner had the tuna tempura role. Both were fantastic. Note the ravioli only came with 3 pieces so keep that in mind when ordering. For the main dish I got the chicken Marsala and my partner had the pork chop. It was hands down the best chicken Marsala I have ever had. Leftovers later that night tasted just as good. My partner equally loved the pork chop. For dessert I had the apple crisp a la mode. My partner had the pot de creme. I wasn’t overly impressed with the apple crisp, I would probably try their crème brule next time instead. The pot de crème was too much chocolate for me (even came in an edible chocolate cup) but my partner loved it. We live far away but I told him I want to make this spot our yearly dinner date spot for our anniversary. 10/10 can’t wait to come back next year.

My wife had the salmon. She gave it a 5 star review. She said it was the best meal in her memory. The fish was cooked perfectly. My short ribs were excellent as well. I have only two small issues for which a point was deducted. First, one piece of asparagus was woody. This may seem harsh, but my reviews are based on how much I'm paying for the food. A $50 plate of food should not have any bad ingredients. The only other deduction was for the cauli-mashed potatoes. They tasted fine, but I wasn't getting any of the cauliflower flavor. Both potatoes and cauliflower have subtle flavors. I could see how they didn't want to mess up the consistency with too much cauliflower, but had they whipped it with a bit of water, they could have added more cauliflower without messing it up. The service was excellent! Our host greeted us immediately and was very friendly. Our server took great care of us and if anything, the food came out too fast. He was attentive without being annoying. We dined alfresco and the view of Walloon Lake made for the perfect backdrop to the great presentation of the food. This was one of the best evenings out we've had in a while.

A very enjoyable dinner with friends. This was our first experience here and we enjoyed everything with our meal and the views overlooking Walloon Lake. Excellent appetizer, salad, entree and dessert choices. We will make it a priority to return.

Ryan provided exceptional service the entire evening of a delightful dining experience. We had an appetizer, braised short rib, salmon, and raspberry sorbet for dessert . All were exceptional. There are great selections of wines and cocktails. We highly recommend Walloon Lake Inn.

Our annual dinner at the Walloon Lake Inn did not disappoint this year, as always. The service was stellar, and atmospher classy but not over the top. The waitresses make you feel special and taken care of, but by no means overbearing. We always have such a great family dinner here. The ribeye was tasty. The shrimp appetizer as well, and the sauce it came with was actually perfeft to dip the truffle fries in! And the desserts were very good as well. The holiday cocktail list was a fun addition this year. Lastly, the 3 courses for $60 special will always be impossible to beat.

Always a pleasant and relaxing experience. The staff and servers are so attentive to detail and friendly. Courtney our server was great! The food is fresh, tasty and farm to table inspired. We enjoy the ambiance of the piano in the background while dining. My wife had the Miso Glazed Salmon and I had the Parmesan Whitefish. One of our favorite spots in Northern MI. Would definitely recommend.

It's been ages since I've experienced fine dining such as this. Walloon's has been serving the finest of cuisines to refined palates since 1891 when it first opened as a bed & breakfast on the shores of beautiful Walloon Lake. The occasion tonight was a wedding anniversary celebration of our friends. The evening was magical. We were seated on the front patio overlooking the lake. Between us we feasted on whitefish, stuffed lobster tail, lamb chops, heirloom burrata and wedge salads and desserts fit for royalty. Each dish, impeccably plated was masterfully delivered and served at our table. It was a well-mastered sensory experience never to be forgotten.

Good food is good food, and this place has undeniably good food. It's cozy and rich and has a sophisticated touch that no where in a several mile radius can touch. If you try it, you will love it. That's all there is to it.

This was my first time eating here in a few years we sat out on the patio on a beautiful September evening could not have had a better setting for a northern Michigan night. I had ordered the wedge salad to start. It was one of the best I've ever had and followed up with the New York strip prime steak. My wife and our friend ordered the apple salad and they said it was fantastic and had the short rib for their entrée and it was fabulous. The service was great. I would highly recommend this.

My group of 4 dined for a birthday, and none of us had been here before, so we really didn't know what to except. We drove from Harbor Springs pretty excited to get out of our small town and eat somewhere else, and we were all extremely happy we did. We had an ahi tuna roll and a dozen oysters to start for the table. Both very good. For our entrees we had the stuffed lobster tail, the seafood risotto, the braised short ribs and the truffle chicken carbonara. In the end we had three desserts to share amongst all of us. Everything was so flavorful, beautiful plated and delicious. We can't wait to go back! Ryan, our server, was also amazing, well attentive and very knowledgeable of the menu.

I got the salmon and my son got the chicken with pasta and carbonara sauce. We shared the carrot cake for dessert. Everything was amazing. My son only let me have one piece of bread because he loved it so much. Service was amazing as well. Highly recommend.

I went to Walloon Lake Inn for a second time recently and it was just as good (if not better) than what I remember. The service was impeccable and everything was prepared to perfection. The Tuna Sushi Roll was delicious, just like I remembered. I tried some Truffle Fries and they are to die for. As an entree I ordered the Seafood Risotto. I have to say, this was my least favorite part of the meal and next time I would order something different. It just tasted like it was missing something. For dessert, I ordered the Crème Brûlée, and it was perfect.

We enjoyed our meal on a perfect night for their outdoor patio. Food was great in addition to the service! Highly recommend enjoying the carrot cake at the end of your meal - yum!

Solid 4. Not bad but not amazing either. Best thing we gad was the whitefish by far. If you go there, get the whitefish. The sushi appetizer was good too. However, the food we had at spring and porter and chandlers was much better. So if you only have 2 nights, I would go to spring and porter and chandlers over this restaurant. It was decent food but nothing memorable besides the whitefish (hence the 4 stars) and the waitstaff is extremely nice and attentive!

Top drawer all around. Every dish that I have had here has been absolutely delicious. The place is located next to the "marina" with outside seating , I presume weather permitting, but we had fantastic evenings for every visit. They have an experienced staff and they hire and train extra servers in peak season. Great beverage selection.

Our first impression, upon arrival, was wow. Very romantic, self playing piano, and superb customer service. It's a very small, but intimate restaurant that looks out at the lake. We got a table in the back corner looking out at the frozen Walloon nature. They had a very limited menu, but everything sounded amazing. They also had a great wine list to choose from. After much debate, internally, I decided on the tuna roll for an appetizer, and the white fish for dinner. Both were cooked to perfection. I had some white wine which was perfect with the white fish. The night was perfect. Overall, this place was everything we wanted and more. The menu is limited, but the selections available had me wanted to try them all. If you're in Walloon, and looking for romance, and quality, then look no further. Just make sure to make a reservation in advance because they fill quickly.

How was this our first visit here? An amazing experience to celebrate our 40th anniversary! Even the menu wished us a "Happy Anniversary!" A perfect weather day allowed us to dine Al fresco with a lovely view of Lake Walloon just ahead. Server Ryan directed us to delicious choices for our meal. Our starter, a split fried Burrata heirloom salad, with touches like figs and pickled onions was delicious. We shared the John Cross Parmesan Whitefish, and the Seafood Risotto - starring three jumbo shrimp and two large scallops - all sautéed perfectly. Finished by a Key Lime Bar with a scoop of vanilla ice cream. Holy cow! Wonderful service and dining centrally located from Petoskey, Boyne City and Charlevoix. See you again!

My husband and I decided to treat ourselves for our one year anniversary at Walloon Lake Inn while on vacation in Petoskey. We were both pleasantly surprised with how wonderful our table, server, drinks and food was. It was all around a lovely experience. I wish we would have known about the 3 for $60 deal. Truffle fries were the best we've had! So yummy. My chicken was moist and flavorful. My husband loved his salmon. Will definitely go back next time we're in the area!

The most delightful outdoor dining experience in Northern Michigan. I delight in their plating. I love the watermelon radish as garnish on their plate.

Wanted to add that the hot tub here is one of the best I have ever encountered in a public institution !!! Super clean lotsa towels nice hand rail & steps to get in for us crippled folks And a solid 104 degree f ! Almost as good as mine at home although theirs is much larger

The Braised Short rib with Brussels sprouts, squash, and polenta cake was amazing. The short rib was very soft and flavorful! Just delicious! The polenta cake added a nice texture and base for the au jus sauce. Truffle fries were very tasty as well. Service was very good. Interior was elegant but not pretentious. Could use some more artwork/accent lighting in the main dining room. The front bar area was very nice too. Overall, very nice experience with views of Walloon Lake!

Tucked away, you'll find a restaurant that is charming and inviting. You can wait for your table inside the piano bar or outside lounging in one of many chairs facing the lake. Started with wedge salad, delicious but very small. Ordered the Shrimp Risotto and was a bit disappointed. Presentation was okay, but for $55 I expected more than three shrimp and two scallops. Portion was small. Service was very pleasant. Nice view and tiki torches bring a cozy, Summer vibe.

My first time at this iconic Petoskey restaurant. Open since 1891, it had a major renovation in 2014. There is a cozy dining room, where I ate, and also a heated patio area. Beautiful water views. My wife and I went with good friends who summer in Harbor Springs. I started with the Walloon Wedge Salad ($17), which has a romaine heart, with blue cheese, bacon, slow roasted heirloom tomatoes, pickled red onions, and blue cheese dressing. It was very good. My wife and I both ordered the John Cross Whitefish ($39), sourced from the John Cross Fishmonger, located a few miles down the road in Charlevoix, which sends its boat out daily (I'm going to review them separately, as they have a retail storefront). The whitefish is parmesan panko encrusted, and served over zucchini, summer squash, and crispy potatoes, with lemon beurre blanc, and tomatoes and capers. It was perfectly prepared - light and flaky. Our table-mates had the Red Wine Poached Pear Salad ($19), made with baby arugula salad, watermelon radish, golden beets, caramelized onions, toasted walnuts, Manchego cheese, and port wine vinaigrette dressing. They said it was very good. One of them had the Grilled Spice Crusted Salmon ($46), which is served with coconut-curry, collard greens, Israeli couscous, peppers, scallions, golden raisins, pistachios, and herb beurre blanc. He pronounced it as one of the best salmon dishes he has ever had (and this from someone who has made the effort to sample restaurants all over the country in his busy travels). His wife had the Filet of Beef ($65), which is a char-grilled filet of beef, with crispy white cheddar polenta, broccolini, and a balsamic-cherry demi-glace. She said it was tender and perfectly prepared as ordered. The service was unobtrusive and efficient. Overall a great experience.

My friends and I were celebrating, and had an absolutely incredible time! Staff was so helpful and friendly, food was delicious, and the vibe was just right! We got to sit on the patio and enjoyed a leisurely dinner together. Would highly recommend!

It is rare when I'm totally blown away by a meal or restaurant. Each fantastic meal sets the bar higher for your next find whenever and wherever it may be. With that said, it is hard to imagine ever surpassing the high bar of excellence set at the Walloon Lake Inn. We decided to head up north to catch what was left of a beautiful fall color scene. Given the time of year, we booked an early reservation so we could enjoy the lake and possibly a sunset. Our table at the window certainly allowed us to enjoy breathtaking views while we dined. We started with drinks. While we usually order wine, the craft cocktail menu was quite interesting so I ordered the "Loch Ness" which was 12 year old Chivas Regal with a Pinot Noir floater. Very interesting combination and tasted great. My wife enjoyed her Manhattan which was also made with a craft bourbon. We skipped wine since we had a 30+ mile drive after dinner. For appetizers we both ordered the Tempura Fried Ahi Tuna Roll. Portions were huge and we could have easily split this. Glad we each ordered our own because after the first bite, there was no way I was going to share mine. Also, this was the first time I can remember having a tuna roll without wasabi. It was not necessary and would have in fact detracted from all the other flavors of this dish. I had the Wagyu Beef Tips. The sauce was amazing as was the beef. The beef was served with roasted baby carrots and hazelnut spaetzle which proved to be a wonderful combination. My wife's choice was Seafood Risotto containing perfectly prepared jumbo shrimp and scallops. Both dishes were absolutely amazing. I kept thinking, "eat slow, small bites makes the meal last longer". Desert was Pumpkin Creme Brûlée. Although pretty full by this time, we enjoyed desert immensely. I've raved about the food but equal time needs to be spent commenting on the service. The staff at Walloon has perfected service to an art form. Responsive and anticipatory without being overbearing. We never wanted for a thing. Our server was a few notches north of outstanding. Driving back we reflected on many of the outstanding meals and venues we've enjoyed (pre COVID of course) around the world. It will be fun and a challenge to attempt to surpass our dining experience tonight.

Wow....I have been in this area many times and have not noticed this restaurant tucked up in the corner. Tonight we dined here and were blown away. The service was fantastic and the food was amazing. Wine list was spot on and the drinks were perfect. I loved the calm but classy atmosphere. We had the pleasure of dining next to some regulars who were welcoming and fun. I am thrilled to have discovered this classic spot and can't wait to return ! The wedge salad was excellent, the ravioli app was exceptional and the short rib Bolognese was fabulous. What a great experience.

Amazing food, wonderful setting. It was nice to get back to Walloon Lake Inn. People all dressed nice for and evening out, and the staff all dressed in classic and elegant black. The service was great. The food took a while but the staff kept us updated and we were in no rush.

Went there for Valentines dinner and it was amazing. View of the lake, watching the sunset with your love was a perfect end to the day. Food was unbelievable, wine was very good and service was outstanding.

This was the best meal I have had in a long time. My husband and I dined here with my parents 2 weekends ago and it was wonderful. The service was attentive but not obtrusive and the ambiance was decidedly elegant. We had oysters to start and then the stuffed lobster and salmon for our main courses. All were wonderful. The oysters were so delicious we ordered more! I agree with other reviewers that this place is one of the best fine dining restaurants I have experienced in recent memory. We recently returned from a trip to Paris, and the food at Walloon Lake Inn was as good or better than a lot of food we had there! Amazing! Can't wait to go back!

Doesn't get any better. Service was excellent, I had the wedge salad and the whitefish. Beautiful presentation, and delicious. The wedge salad could have been run of the mill but roasted heirloom tomatoes added interest. It was my birthday and I enjoyed the experience. A nice find in northern Michigan.

Such an amazing dining experience we went twice during our recent visit to Petoskey. Hands down the best meal we've have had in ages. Service and view was spectacular. The food was amazing! Best filet and caprese salad I've ever had. Cocktails were on point. I can not wait to return.

Walloon lake inn is a beautiful setting with a great view IF you can get a table along the window. Relatively large portion sizes for how nicely plated the entrees are. We were both full after dinner and had no room for dessert. Plating is beautiful and a good variety of items and salads to choose from. A very upscale atmosphere and pricing as would be expected. A nice spot for a quiet dinner - wished we had been at the window.

We visited for a family dinner for a birthday. The menu was special with Happy Birthday at the top. We all chose the special of salad and entree and appetizer or dessert. The service was superb, polite and helpful. The appetizers we had were sushi, pork belly with shrimp. The salads we enjoyed were the wedge, Caesar, and Greek. All the ingredients were very fresh. Entrees included chicken, steak, vegetarian, seafood risotto, and the bolognese. I had the risotto filled with veggies and very well cooked. 3 large shrimp and two scallops were the seafood. I enjoyed the taste and presentation. My DH said his steak was perfect but his side of asparagus not as much. Most of the party completed their meal, just two had a box to take home. The restaurant was not crowded on a Tuesday night, so it was very quiet. When busy it could be noisy. The menu is very pricey, but the location and view add to the value.

I can't imagine anyone rating this less than 5 stars. The outdoor patio dining overlooking Walloon Lake is magical. We have eaten here over 10 times and every meal is prepared perfectly and the service is excellent. While they had some Covid service issues 2 years ago, these issues are completely behind them. The service this season is superb with seasoned staff and a manager who really spends time with the patrons to insure that the experience is excellent. I would highly recommend this restaurant for any occasion.

One of my most memorable meals in Michigan. This was our first time in the Petoskey/Walloon Lake area and I had several great meals- but this one took first place. I wish I could give 4.5 stars only because the hostess seemed flustered and came off a little rude. We originally made a reservation for 6pm, with intent to rent a boat on the lake for the day and then finish with an outside patio dinner. However, we went last month in mid July- and there was a tornado warning all weekend. The restaurant was nice enough to call us in the morning and warn us that the weather would probably be too windy to sit outside. We opted to take their first inside open reservation- which was at 8pm. Since we had no boat day, we decided to go early to dinner since the weather seemed to have cleared up. We saw two empty tables outside and asked the hostess if she could seat us there, and got a very short "no" with no other suggestion or explanation. But we wouldn't let that or the storm ruin our night! We ended up with a very nice inside window table- and the food MORE than made up for it. We started off with an order of oysters. I got the white fish (every bite better than the last) and the fiancé got lamb chops and he was done before I could even sneak a bite. We topped it off with the raspberry creme brûlée- oh man. We left happy and stuffed. Can't wait to visit again.

I wish I could give the Walloon Lake Inn a 10 star review. Every single detail from the service, ambiance, plate presentation and music was absolute perfection. Each course was almost too beautiful to dive into. It seemed that all the ingredients were locally sourced and thoughtfully prepared. I never wanted our meal to end. Truly an A++ fine dining experience.

The outdoor patio on Lake Wallon is the place to be, elegant and relaxing! The old school bar is charming and worth a visit before your table is ready - or grab a drink and go out to the adirondack chairs. Service and food were great. Traditional style fine dining menu. This was our first visit and we'll be back next summer.

After going there more times than I remember since the last review I think I have to increase my quality rating to five stars. They do a great job. Melissa the manager is always helpful friendly courteous kind. Wonderful

Perfect evening. My family and I ate there last night for my birthday. Every aspect of the experience was perfect, atmosphere, food, drinks, setting and especially service. Jerry and Phil made us feel so welcome and at home. My husband and I agreed, this was among the best dining experiences we've had. Thank you.

I can honestly say I've never eaten a better piece of fish in my life! My husband and I are taking a summer trip to Walloon Lake, MI, where his family shares a cottage. There aren't that many options in the nearby vicinity of his house, but we love to walk to "The Foot" of the lake every night. Other than a general store, a post office, and some great views of the water, what distinguishes the foot is the Walloon Lake Inn. My husband had been there before when he was younger, and we decided to give it a try for our first night in town. I was immediately taken by the floral wallpaper and light wood paneling. It was old-fashioned and "soft," and of course this makes sense considering that the Inn also doubles as a Bed and Breakfast with five rooms. The service was friendly, and we were given probably the best seat in the house, right by the window, so we could watch the sun glimmer off our water glasses. Each table had a tiny glass vase of bright, fresh flowers. The dining area wasn't huge, but wasn't very confined or small either. When we arrived, we were one of three tables occupied, but by the time we left, almost every seat was taken. The menu had a lot of appetizers of different varieties to choose from, ranging from soups to salads to pot stickers and tenderloin satay. The entree list was not very long, and was mostly comprised of fish dishes. However, they had about five specials that night. I chose one of them, the pan-seared Alaskan Halibut with lemon-dill risotto, leeks, and a ginger-carrot broth. My husband had the hanger steak with pesto, a southwestern rub, and these ridiculously good whipped potatoes with cheese. Both dishes were served with fresh vegetables. The salads were beautiful. They were decorated with fresh flowers from the garden. The greens were chilled and crisp, and I loved the dressing. My husband tried the special salad, which had strawberries, currants, and chevre. The bread basket also stood out--piping hot, sturdy, crispy rolls with whipped butter. Classic and delicious. The entrees were out of this world. I thought back to my top three "fish dish moments" of my life and this trumped each one. The halibut was perfectly cooked; it was moist and flavorful on its own, but when you added all the other components to it, it was unique and memorable. My husband loved his steak, as did I (because of course I had to try it, along with the potatoes and the pesto). A GREAT job. My dish also had a single tiny flower on top, again from the garden - what a nice touch. I refrained from eating dessert, but my husband wanted some. He giggled like a five-year-old when the waiter mentioned they specialized in three different types of Hummers (I had never heard this term before, but apparently in this area it refers to a milkshake made with alcohol - sort of like a Mudslide). The traditional Hummer had vanilla ice cream, kahlua, myer's rum,and vodka. Their "signature" Hummer had that but also added chambord and chocolate chips. Finally, they had one that included a piped homemade chocolate mousse within the drink. That's the one he went for. And he wolfed it down...after it was all over, he had a very strong "ice cream headache" considering the fact that he was majorly buzzed. Or, er, Hummed? Anyway. Going to the Walloon Lake Inn was a great choice. We had a wonderful meal all around; the service was fantastic, and the food was definitely something to remember.

We think this is a great spot! Fine dining at it's best! Beautiful setting - warm and gracious and knowledgeable staff! A nice variety of excellent food and drink! A pleasant dining experience whether for a couple or a group of friends. It is a bit of a ways from our home but always worth the trip! We heartily recommend the restaurant!

The interior of this restaurant is absolutely beautiful....cozy and classy. The wait staff were all very attentive and had great personalities which made up for the food. I had the bisque for an appetizer, NY strip for entree and creme brûlée for dessert. My husband had truffle fries, NY strip and cobbler. My bisque was interestingly sweet and beautiful. The truffle fries were absolutely phenomenal. Best part of either meals. Both of our steaks were filled with gristle which was disappointing considering how much they cost. Couldn't even finish mine to be honest. The vegetables and potatoes were yummy though along with the glaze. The cobbler was good and my creme brûlée was good on the custard part, the sugar on top was slightly burnt to where I couldn't eat it. I was not the only one who couldn't eat that part at our table, either. All in all, a good start but the rest was disappointing from what I expected of this restaurant.
