Retro dive bar with pinball machines, hot dogs, and beer

"Hot dogs are always ready in the warmer, and ice-cold Hamm’s only cost a few dollars; the place keeps it simple with just a ketchup-and-mustard–topped dog. Grab a beer (or a glass of wine), a hot dog, and head out to the back patio to find a film photo booth and plenty of seating. The warm pretzels are also worth an order. When you’re done, head a block down to Capri Club for Negronis or martinis. Recommended by Rebecca Roland, editor, Eater Southern California/Southwest." - Eater Staff
"When we say that the dogs at Walt’s are “just bar hot dogs,” it's with the deepest affection. Walt’s Bar’s spinning links, straight from the warmer, are the salty bite you want after a few beers or an intense game of pinball. The Eagle Rock beer bar’s $5 hot dog comes with thin zigzags of ketchup and mustard and a foil wrapper so it stays warm during its journey to the patio. A night of IPAs and arcade games at Walt’s is always a fun time, but it’s their signature midnight snack that we look forward to most." - garrett snyder, sylvio martins, brant cox, cathy park, andrew ryce

"Settle onto the patio of Walt’s in Eagle Rock for an ice-cold beer and one of Los Angeles’s best hot dogs. The weiners live behind the bar in a warmer, glistening as they sit in front of a heat lamp alongside a case of salted pretzels and other bar snacks. Every order is nestled in a pillowy bun and drizzled with ketchup and grainy mustard. The meat is rich and salty, while the ketchup and mustard bring a nice balance of sweetness and spice. A side of Zapp’s potato chips makes for an ideal accompaniment." - Eater Staff

"Walt’s is a remarkably not buzzy bar. The inside looks like it is straight out of the ’70s with wood paneling and vintage pinball machines, plus a long bar with stool seating. Order a bottle of natural wine, or a Hamm’s, and grab a table inside or along the side of the building for a low-key date. There’s also a small menu of food to order, with hot dogs and warm pretzels available." - Rebecca Roland
