Sandwiches with a twist, that will bring you back!
"Wax Paper is one of our all-time favorite sandwich shops in LA, but lost in the well-deserved fervor over the Larry Mantle, Ira Glass, and Terry Gross is a soft serve situation that’s just as good. Each location (Frogtown and Chinatown) has different flavors going at all times, but just know that whether it’s strawberry, lime, cereal, or a flavor you’ve never had before, it’s going to be delicious. Also, if you’re missing your Disneyland fix right now, the Frogtown location is currently selling a lime and mango Dole whip. You’re welcome." - brant cox, kat hong
"This top-tier sandwich shop probably doesn’t need an introduction, but here’s one anyway (it’s literally our job). Named after NPR personalities, the sandwiches at Wax Paper marry the distinct worlds of “stuff between sliced bread” and “listener-supported public radio” to create inventive original subs like the Larry Mantle, which comes with herb bologna, pickled peppers, and a snowcap-like covering of grated pecorino pepato, or the Ophira Eisenberg, a sweet-and-salty ’wich made with black forest ham, shaved green onions, and a honey-walnut aioli so good, we need an entire season of Serial to investigate it. Available for takeout and delivery." - brant cox, kat hong
"After closing in Chinatown last fall, Wax Paper will reopen this Wednesday in the United Foods Building. It will sell sandwiches and soft serve from Close Encounters from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. until sold out, while the Frogtown location still operates seven days a week." - Mona Holmes
"Wax Paper will shut down its Chinatown outlet on Sunday, October 22. Owners Lauren and Peter Lemos posted the news on Instagram while citing troubling times as a restaurant operator with low sales, rising rents, and the pandemic." - Mona Holmes
"No Hate Tie Dye V 2.0, $35 Our favorite NPR-focused sandwich shop (which, admittedly, is a pretty exclusive list), Wax Paper is now selling a limited-edition blue, green, and orange tee, sure to please any tie dye-obsessed friends or loved ones. All proceeds go to the ACLU. Available for pre-order." - kat hong
