Nestled in a gas station, Wee’s Cozy Kitchen serves up crave-worthy Malaysian comforts like beef rendang and laksa, perfect for cozy takeout.
"After closing her original West Campus gas station location, chef-owner Wee Fong Ehlers reopened her fantastic casual Malaysian restaurant within the Congress Avenue location of Royal Blue Grocery. Diners can dig into plates of beef or tofu rendang; nasi lemak (coconut rice paired with sambal, cucumbers, papadoms, pickled vegetables, and chicken), spiced chicken wings, chicken satay; and roti canai (bread with dal) in its carryout spot or take it outside on the plant-filled patio. Takeout orders can be placed in person." - Darcie Duttweiler
"Located in downtown Austin, known for its cozy atmosphere." - Nadia Chaudhury
"Offers amazing nasi lemak with a convenient downtown location." - Nadia Chaudhury
"We’re only aware of a handful of places in town to get curry laksa—a spicy, shrimp or chicken-based soup with lots of lemongrass and coconut milk—but our favorite has to be from Wee’s, a Malaysian restaurant operating out of a mini grocery store Downtown. The broth here is just thick enough to coat the spaghetti-sized egg noodles, but not too thick for sipping in between bites. It’s creamy, spicy, and everything we want in a bowl of noodle soup. "When Wee’s Cozy Kitchen first opened up in the back of a West Campus gas station, it quickly became one of our favorite spots in town for Malaysian food, and even made our list of the best new restaurants of 2023. A few months ago, Wee’s closed up, but now, it’s at the back of a Royal Blue grocery store Downtown, with the same menu of nasi lemak, laksa, beef rendang, and other Malaysian classics.
