"From two alumni of L’Appartement 4F, it’s not surprising that this small, bright corner spot in Bed Stuy has quickly become one of the best bakeries in New York and a destination for laminated pastries. You’ll feel right at home with the warm hospitality of owner Isa Steyer, and will want to make repeat trips back whenever they introduce new items, like their latest one, Kory’s Bed Stuy blackout cake. It may be the densest, fudgiest chocolate cake in town, so get here early when they put it out in mid-morning, but linger for a bit to score one of their savory lunch sandwiches after to balance out the sweetness." - Mike Chau
"Cinnabon’s greatest impersonator lives in Bed-Stuy. The bun at Welcome Home is smothered with glaze and has a dark brown bottom, with globs of sticky cinnamon sugar clinging to it. When the people behind the counter ask if you want a piece from the center or the edge of the tray, go with a center piece for the gooiest experience—and also a lot of extra napkins." - willa moore, molly fitzpatrick, bryan kim, will hartman
"A compact bakery from Isa Steyer and Billy Wright (who worked together at L’Appartement 4F) starting with a slender bread-focused menu including a “Billy baguette” with olives and herbes de Provence, sesame loaves, croissants, and coffee with Stumptown beans. Steyer teases a playful hybrid called a “pig in bed” — “sausage roll meets Pop Tart meets pig in blanket... should be insane,” says Steyer — and the plan is to eventually expand into sandwiches like a ham-and-potato-chip one and another with chickpea salad on ciabatta." - Emma Orlow
"Welcome Home is a Bed-Stuy bakery run by two friends who met while working at cult-favorite L’Appartement 4F, and it really does feel like they just looked at each other one day and thought, "Well, why don't we have our own bakery?" One of them takes orders inside the all-green space, filling bags with cinnamon buns and morning glory muffins, and the other pulls hot croissants from the oven, and makes butter-and-cheese sandwiches on seedy homemade bread with a nice firm crust. (They're calling that one "Seeds & Butts" for now.) We especially like the corn cookie—like a lemony cornbread topped with a toasty marshmallow—and the flaky Pig in Bed, which is just a fun name for a pig in a blanket. Come with a friend on a weekend morning, share a few things at the counter in the window, and don't miss the entire mural devoted to baked goods on your way out. photo credit: Welcome Home" - Willa Moore
"Isa Steyer and Billy Wright, who worked together at L’Appartement 4F, are opening a bakery in Bed-Stuy this Saturday, December 14 at 8 a.m. They’ll start with a more slender menu of bread like a “Billy baguette” with olives and herbes de Provence, sesame loaves, a “pig in bed” (“sausage roll meets Pop Tart meets pig in blanket... should be insane,” says Steyer), plus croissants, and coffee with Stumptown beans. Eventually, the menu will expand with items like sandwiches, such as a ham-and-potato-chip one, and another with chickpea salad on ciabatta." - Melissa McCart
