Dr. Becky Kennedy's Favorite NYC Restaurants

"Whenever we’re downtown, we always end up at Westville. Caesar salad and turkey burgers are my kid's favorites, and I love the Asian Chopped Salad and the vegetable-centric Market Plate. My kids love the Color Factory nearby, so a special weekend outing involves a Color Factory visit and then lunch at Westville. It always satisfies adults and kids so it’s truly become our go-to family spot." - brennan carley

"In the last few years, Westvilles have popped up all over Manhattan, which is probably a good thing since the original West Village outpost was way too tiny. You’ll find every variation of comfort food, from mac and cheese to the hot dogs that made them famous. Beyond myriad toppings and preparations, they offer vegan dogs, too. The South Village outpost is very close to the Children’s Museum of the Arts, and there are also locations in Chelsea near the Highline, and in the East Village."

My friend and I came across this place on a Sunday evening. The hostess seated us right away. We ordered the Birria empanadas for starters - so good! For our entrees, I ordered the market plate: salmon with asparagus and garlic mashed potatoes, and my friend ordered the market plate: salmon teriyaki with Brussels sprouts and garlic mashed potatoes. We weren’t too pleased with the salmon (tasted a little too fishy for our liking and was very bland); however, our veggies were pretty good. I don’t think I’d order the salmon again - I’d try another type of protein. Overall, this place was good. The staff were very attentive and quick, which we appreciated. I’d give this place another shot and order a different dish.

What a great spot for a casual lunch! The vibe at Westville Hudson is energetic, with a bright and open dining room full of natural light from its many windows. There's also a generous outdoor seating area. From the moment we arrived, the experience was seamless. The host station was efficiently helmed by three people who gave us immediate attention, acknowledged our reservation, and had our table waiting. Our server was perfectly attentive—never intrusive or rushed, allowing for a relaxed meal and easy conversation. The food was high-quality and the portions were notably generous. We ordered the Cobb and Greek salads, and despite being two grown adult males, neither of us could finish them. The optional protein add-on was a full, perfectly cooked chicken breast, which was a fantastic value. While the tables are close together in typical NYC fashion, the acoustics were great for conversation. It's clearly a favorite among the area's media and tech professionals. Highly recommend if you find yourself in this neighborhood.

Google
Visited for dinner on a weekday evening. Was pretty busy when we got there but they managed to seat us as a large party without a reservation (we got lucky I think). Service was spot on and attentive. Consensus across the table was that the food was excellent with decently sized portions. Buffalo chicken, and the cheeseburger, were standouts though. Only thing I would say is that it was pretty noisy on our visit. So much so we had to shout to have any conversations. I'm sure for lots of people that's not an issue :)

Google
Comfort food and great service. Arrive for Sunday brunch with 5 friends with no reservation and was accommodated. Gets busy on weekends and have been here several times. We had the southern bowl, eggs Benedict, waffle and Yuca fries.

We stopped in for a bite around lunch during our walk and we are so happy we did! The food was perfection and healthy! Our waitress was fabulous! Can’t wait to come back! FIVE STARS

Google
Recommended, I always look forward to catching up on my veggie consumption here! Brunch is very good as well. I like this spacious atmosphere and warmly lit vibe of this location. Service was friendly, attentive and prompt. Happy hour til 630p. The veggie plate is the highlight, though I wish all my selections were consistently freshly hot. So many choices to choose from, but we were still a bit hungry so we also split the turkey burger is also good, excellent fries. Enjoy!

Yelp
What a great little lunch and brunch spot Great vibe staff is so welcoming and fun makes the ambiance cozy I had a buttermilk fried chicken sandwich with avocado one of the best I ever had If in the area a strong yes

Yelp
A New York institution at this point, but perhaps basking a little too much on their laurels. At this point it's basically a sit down version of popular counter service restaurants such as Dig Inn. Good sides, decent proteins, you get a lot of customization. Staff is usually pretty good, don't always get your order right and you can tell they'd rather be working elsewhere. But I'd rather be eating elsewhere so I understand. If you need to go somewhere with a picky or basic eater this is a great option. If you just need to eat SOMETHING and don't want to worry about it, this is a great place. Will say, one of the best hot dogs you can buy from a waiter.
google avatar

Yelp
Treat yourself to some good old fashion, market vegetables, and a well-prepared piece of protein. I also indulged in a pozole soup because I've never had it before. It surpassed my expectations, especially with the crispy bits on top. Last, but not least if you have a sweet tooth, the carrot cake was recommended. While I have never had carrot cake in the past, this would be the place to try it in. I felt safe, seen, and heard here, thanks for the wonderful staff!
google avatar

Yelp
Consistently delicious delivery. I dream of the kale salad. It's gigantic. I'll add an extra protein, sometimes salmon, sometimes avocado, or marinated tofu. In the winter, it's the turkey chili! When you need to be healthy, Westville has a large menu of choices. I should be more adventurous, but the kale salad and turkey chili have me hooked! Bonus: there is always seating.

Yelp
This place was a God send! We had just come off of the Liberty Cruise at Pier 40, the kids were hungry, everyone needed to use the bathroom, it was hot, and we needed to find a place to stop fast! We were seated right away, the food was excellent, the service was excellent, and the ambiance was perfect for a nice summer day in NYC. If I could give this place a 6 of 5 I would! Would highly recommend to anyone in the area.

Yelp
I caught up with my brother here for Saturday brunch. The menu was amazing and provided savory, sweet, healthy, and rich options. I got the avocado toast, which I thought was delicious. Other dishes that I heard were amazing were the breakfast burrito and tater tots. The interior is decorated well and is spacious, which is perfect for groups or for a more intimate date. The service was also so great! As we wanted to stay longer to catch up, the servers didn't rush us out at all and we were able to eat and talk at a comfortable pace.

Yelp
Another great experience at Westville. We have visited few locations and this one is our favorite so far. Nice ambiance, great service and delicious menu choices. today we tried something different. Crispy Fish Sandwich $16 and Crispy Goat Cheese Salad which was a part of Lunch Special for $16 , both dishes were absolutely delicious, We also took advantage of Margarita Mondays and ordered two spicy margaritas for $9 each Great lunch and great value!

Yelp
I was excited to grab a healthy meal while traveling but this ended up being a very disappointing experience. Service is painfully slow - had to remind my waitress I was still waiting for water after she voluntarily promised to bring some earlier. My spicy Paloma cocktail was a little heavy on the agave. The steak and Brussels were extremely bland, even after I added salt and pepper. The yuca fries were just okay.
google avatar

Yelp
Had dinner here a week ago and was amazed at how great the food is. The food is prepared fresh, I love the crispy fish sandwich on French bread, my absolute favorite. The truffle fries are really good, my friend swears by the salmon, and the Brussel sprouts. The staff are very friendly, and the service is excellent. They have several locations. This location is perfect in every way. Thank you for an awesome dinner.

Yelp
We came for brunch on a Sunday.. French toast was good, and so was the breakfast burrito. Our servers were super friendly, and the interior was cute. Seems like a decent amount of families with kids come here.
google avatar

Yelp
Prettty good quick and east salad place with other veggie options. Various different veggie options and side to split- beats and sweet potatoes but enjoyed a westville Cobb. Overall good salad place
google avatar

Maddy A.

Yelp
Really loved this place! Was very accommodating for our group of 10 for a last minute work lunch. Loved the breaded chicken cutlet, wished the Caesar salad had double the amount of dressing because it was a little dry. But won't stop me from coming back! Great for mid day work stop.
google avatar

Christopher C.

Yelp
no-frills, great food. Extremely casual, diner vibe; not a place I would recommend a date. The service is too slow for grab and go or quick lunch. Typically packed on a weekday during lunchtime. There are tons of vegetable options including healthy salads and the dishes are tastefully composed with simple, straightforward elements.
google avatar

Yelp
The food was so fresh and delicious. I had the steak and eggs with home fries that were so homey. My family had breakfast burritos and chicken salad. The salad was surprisingly loaded w/ delicious grilled chicken. It was all great! The ambiance and the service was great!! Our server was so kind.

Yelp
I'd previously been to their Wall Street restaurant and loved their brunch so I was excited to try a different location. The california benedict is amazing. A buttery hash brown is topped with corn, poached egg, avocado, and sriracha hollandaise. The flavors and textures are awesome. The side salad with pickled onions that comes with it is a perfect complement. It's a large portion size as well. Highly recommend!
google avatar

Yelp
Always a pleasure. The food is consistently good as is the service. The staff is pleasant and available without hovering. Great menu with lots of choices. And the space is large enough that you don't have to listen to the conversation at the table next you.
google avatar

Yelp
Overall surprisingly excellent food. Slight bump/delay with our food, but major props to GM Aaron (sp?) for taking control of the situation and expediting our food. Would def go back.

Yelp
Great service. Classic, refreshing spot with a cozy rustic interior and dishes to match. Good if you like vegetables. Very veggie-oriented restaurant with huge variety/combo of market plate features. Simple meals with fresh, well-cooked veggies which is hard to find fault in I have consistently gotten a few things here--the tofu which is really good but comes in a couple of big chunks. I also have gotten their sweet potato fries which are seasoned or crispy enough for me but I know that this is a preference. The stars for me are their Brussels sprout (side or part or market plate) and kale salad entree. This place is consistent, but with rotating specials which keeps it interesting. They have a good delivery/pickup process which is fast, communicative, well-packaged, and sealed drinks/condiments and in the EV location their own bikers.
google avatar

George J.

Yelp
Adequate. I had the steak sandwich and fries. Steak was really tough. The fries were a B minus. By the time I tipped it was nearly $25 which is what things cost these days but still feels too much for what it was. I had it delivered so I can't comment on service or ambiance. I have friends whose opinions I trust who order from this place every once in a while when they are stuck. I can't imagine I'll be ordering from here again. There are too many better options in my opinion. Overall, not for me.
google avatar

Yelp
Yum! Best sit-down salads in the city in my opinion. The Greek with grilled chicken is so good and always so fresh. Got the sweet potato fries today but the truffle fries are great too. Also tried to health tea it was so good and great to warm up on this cold day. The service was so fast and attentive and we didn't have to wait without a res.

Yelp
Huge fan of Westville. I have been to several of their locations and enjoy that all that I am aware of have outside seating available. It's not only nice on a summer evening when things are cooling down, but affords me the opportunity to bring my dog with me. They had $6 drafts all day on Thursday so I had an Allagash. They also make a nice spicy margarita though it comes in at $16. I am always torn between going super-healthy and delicious or going indulgent and delicious. This past time, I went indulgent and delicious and got the buttermilk chicken sandwich. Other times and in other moods, I would strongly recommend the market plate where you choose four of their in-season veggie+ items assembled together. Service is polite and attentive and I am a huge fan of this chain's reliability as to quality, the menu, the availability of menu items, the fresh and seasonal veggie sides and options. Strongly recommend this venue!

Yelp
Came here on a rainy afternoon. The staff was very accommodating and allowed us to bring both our small dogs into the restaurant. We had carry on bags for both and placed them on the seat next to us. We ordered the BBQ Pork Benedict, Westville Chorizo Fajitas, a cup of hot chocolate and a side order of hash browns. The Hot Chocolate was creamy and came with art. The Benedict was delicious and the Portuguese bread was sweet. The chorizo fajitas was too filling. The food presentation was very lacking but then again this isn't a high-end brunch place. I'd hope it'll be somewhat memorable or better composed. The staff came to check on us a few times. Our pups thank you for the accommodation!

Yelp
Catered lunch to the office and everyone was satisfied with their meals! Got the salmon teriyaki with broccoli and brussel sprouts. The salmon was super flavorful and well cooked. Broccoli too! Think the brussel sprouts could have used some kind of sauce and to be cooked until a little softer, but overall good pick for a healthy office lunch.
google avatar

Jenny D.

Yelp
Waffles were so tasty, cappuccinos were delicious and service was quick and super friendly! Our server was able to handle the entire space (it seemed) which was a full house but was still courteous and smiley!
google avatar

Yelp
Westville is one of my favorite restaurants in New York, but I always check the menu online beforehand to see if it's worth going. Their weekly specials can be pretty phenomenal, like this greek bowl with shrimp, but I sadly find most of their regular menu pretty lackluster. There are a few gems, though, like the salmon and yuca fries (highly recommend!). I do love that I can usually walk into this location on most days with no wait, and the staff is always so lovely! Depending on the day it can get decently lively too.
google avatar

Yelp
Nice outdoor seating, indoors is cute too from what I saw. Had a work lunch there. Healthy food, quick service, although we had to wait a bit to be asked what we wanted to order. But the service was good/nice. I liked my food-chicken and veggies. Very close to my office so it's convenient. And not overly expensive!

Adrian W.

Yelp
Great place to grab something a little healthier, yet extremely tasty and satisfying. Staff is super friendly. Extremely close to Pier 40, so if you're an out of towner looking for a place to sit and recover, they have both inside and outside seating, too. And they were playing great music the day we stopped by.

Yelp
a rainy day in new york is always an invitation for cozy, catch-up brunch. unfortunately westville did not provide that ambiance. i'll chalk up the questionable front-of-house service to the girl admitting she was new to the job; however, being told we can't be seated and then being told that if they DID seat us, we'd be forced to give up our table in less than 45 minutes was not the glamorous first impression we expected. the only place offered for us to sit, despite the number of open tables on the floor, was at the bar. tucked into a back corner, the bartender was incredibly nice and quick with his service. however, the brunch caesar with poached egg was poorly seasoned and didn't taste like much. our fries were too hot when they came out and the porcelain bowl meant all that heat was trapped at the bottom, leaving a soggy mess of fries underneath. this paired with the number of people who were able to keep their tables past the time front-of-house told me we would have to leave left a poor taste in our mouths. i'll chalk it up to poor front of house management instead of the more concerning alternative. if you're looking for affordable brunch with a comfy ambiance to linger for a few minutes and chat with friends, this doesn't seem to be the place -- a bummer considering its raving reviews on social media.
google avatar

Joojoo J.

Yelp
Love this place: the variety of fresh vegetables, the unfussy and usually delicious salads and entrees, the nice staff, with reasonable prices in a relaxed and pleasant ambiance. My only complaint is how salty certain items (eg turkey burger) can be sometimes, but not always, so i never know whether to ask for less salt or not. I guess i could ask regardless, and then just add salt if needed... but it doesn't taste the same, adding salt after-the-fact. Dear Westville, could y'all please just go a bit lighter on the salt in the turkey burgers or at least be more consistent? Thank you! Keep up the good work otherwise!

Yelp
Does anything say brunch better than Westville? Nothing comes to mind personally. I was meeting a group of friends for an early brunch on a Saturday and it didn't hit us until late Friday that we mighhhhht need a reservation. Luckily this Westville location had something open for us! For gals sat down before 11 and had great food, GREAT drinks and lots of time to catch up. Before I got any further, get the hot cider cocktail with mezcal. If you like mezcal and you like cider, you will love this. We spent the rest of the wishing we got another round. It was the shining star of an all around wonderful visit. For food, I got the brunch caesar with poached eggs. It was really got but I am pretty sure it was missing like 4 ingredients... I was basically a big bowl of kale, with shavings of some kind of cheese, avocado, a really nice dressing and the poached eggs. I think it was missing the halloumi as well as the pumpkin and sunflower seeds. So even though it was great, I'm still not sure it is what I ordered. We also got a side of yucca fries to share which were wonderful. They were cut like steak fries and came with a really incredible, creamy dipping sauce on the side. Get the yucca fries! We stayed for over an hour and never felt rushed. An entree and drink or two each, along with a couple coffees, came out to about $40 each. Really not bad at all. This is a perfect spot if anyone is trying to eat slightly healthier. One of us was vegan and had no trouble. Another Westville location, another amazing meal.

Yelp
Westville is always solid when it comes to healthy options! Love: + Obvs the healthy choices + Food came out really fast + Love the tall glass windows that give light during the day or show off the twinkly lights at night Not so love: - Service can be a bit slow - Food came before our drinks, which I believe was a first for me There are a ton of locations in the city so you have your pick anytime you need your dose of veggies and all. :)
google avatar

Tunaidi A.

Yelp
Westville serves up some solid brunch. The menu is quite diverse, from burgers/dogs to salads and more typical items. The benny's are particularly memorable, with the California benedict with smoked salmon quite the winner. The hashbrowns on it was a good twist.
google avatar

Monica L.

Yelp
Always happy dining at Westville! We are HUGE fans, specially love this location. Service is friendly and top noch, food is amazingly good, yummy and healthy, and... the place is really nice and not table-crowded! What else to ask for? Yes IT IS ALSO KIDS FRIENDLY! From their eggs, specials for brunch to the market plates! Veggies are so good, specially the cauliflower, green peas, mashed potatoes, actually, everything!!! My husband loves the veggie burger You just can't go wrong!

Isabel G.

Yelp
I learned about Westville last week from someone who praised the Hell's Kitchen location. I ordered lunch from the South Village location today. It arrived 10 minutes before promised, piping hot, and so so so so good! The prices are more than fair and totally worth it! This may be my go-to!
google avatar

Yelp
Great place to grab some breakfast around NYC. Went there a Saturday morning and it was a little busy. Ordered the Breakfast Burrito with peas and shallots and bottle of mimosa. Food came out pretty fast, it came out before our drinks. The burrito was tasty however it was weird eating it with a fork since it's was complicated cutting it and didn't wanted to used my hand because of the sauce on top. Overall, great and fast breakfast store around the city.
google avatar

Stefanie S.

Yelp
Our friends who live in New York took us here for brunch. It was delicious. The restaurant was busy but the service was great despite the crowd. We ordered the avocado toast with salmon which was delinks. The salmon Benedict was delightful. The best part was the hash browns. They tasted like potato pancakes. Highly recommend!
google avatar

Rachel B.

Yelp
Good food fast - simple but delish! Go, and treat yourself to some nice indulgences!!

Yelp
I got an 11:30am reservation on a Sunday and arrived at 11:15 to a nearly empty restaurant. The hostess refused to seat us outside or near the window, as she said those were reserved-- yet nobody took those tables during my time there. But that said, the food was great and the actual servers were excellent. It's hard to get my 5-year old to eat healthy-ish, but he loved the waffle with a mountain of berries on top, and also had part of my breakfast Caesar salad-- which had perfectly poached eggs and some amazing fried cheese "croutons" to add extra zing. The marketplate of veggies is always a favorite and the hash browns were incredible (we got hash browns, parmesan asparagus, parmesan artichokes and the butternut squash with pepitos-- all delicious). Will definitely be going back and adding our seating request to our reservation, so the hostess can accommodate (even on days when 60% of the seats are empty ).

Yelp
I reallllyy am not the type of person to leave negative reviews but honestly I'm disappointed. I don't want to place too much blame on the restaurant because they told me they were having issues with grub hub, which I ordered through. I went to the restaurant after receiving an alert that my takeout order was ready. It was extremely crowded. I asked for my order but I was told it still wasn't ready due to issues with grub hub, which is fair. I then proceeded to wait 25 minutes for my food, and then I was attended to again and my order was finally ready. I went back to work and opened the food bag, starving after waiting so long for my food. I specifically asked for cheddar cheese, Mayo and ketchup, and lettuce tomato onions on my burger as well as the Parmesan truffle fries. Instead I received a plain meat patty on a plain bun and regular fries. No condiments or toppings. They at least threw some pickles on top of the fries for some reason? Regardless I felt compelled to write this review because I was so disappointed with my order. Again I don't want to place too much blame on the restaurant for the lateness of my order because they were extremely busy and they said they were having issues with grub hub. But given that this meal definitely wasn't cheap, I would say I'm really not satisfied with this experience. I'm sure the food is good if you dine in but I definitely won't be ordering takeout from here again.

Yelp
We stumbled upon this place after a boat cruise. It was clean with plenty of indoor and outdoor seating. Our server was incredibly friendly and kind, especially to our 6 yr old who proudly ordered for herself and asked for the bill when we were done. My husband and I both had salads which are huge and delicious. My daughter had chicken tenders and fries and I am not sure but they seemed to be hand battered tenders otherwise really good frozen ones. They had lattes on the menu but only could make vanilla (I asked for caramel), but it ended up being a nice surprise because it was the best latte I have had so far in the week I've been in NYC-which includes many local coffee shops. If there had to be a complaint I guess it would be the salads are TOO big, had I known how a large they were, my husband and I could have split one. It felt so wasteful to only eat almost half of it, and being in a hotel we couldn't really take the leftovers it with us. Highly recommended!!

Yelp
Westville Hudson is basically like a glorified Dig Inn or Sweetgreen. Instead of it being a to-go place, it's a sit down restaurant with a lively scene, and "healthy" food, for the most part. Like Dig Inn you can make your own plate with a protein and veggie sides, but they also have salads, sandwiches, burgers, and some small plates available, as well as alcohol. It's pretty expensive for what you get but the food is good quality. As far as the market sides, some are better than others. The kale was good, as were the beets, but the tofu and plantains were disappointing. Their special that night, the yuca fries, were fantastic! I wish I got a second order of those instead of the plantains. They also have a pretty good happy hour deal with $6 wines until 8pm. Make a reservation, it's crazy packed.

Madeline A.

Yelp
Met a friend for brunch outdoors on a Sunday and it wasn't too busy! Service was great; very attentive and they wore masks and gloves throughout. We each ordered a salad ($18ish) and shared the market veggie plate. There were about 12 different options for the market veggie plate and you get to pick 4. We went with the yuka fries, cauliflower, Brussel sprouts and beets and they were awesome! Everything was so so fresh and delicious! We both loved our cocktails as well. They seemed to be doing a ton of takeout orders too. It's you're looking for a healthy brunch, definitely check it out. I will be back!!
google avatar

Sarah K.

Yelp
If you're looking for veggie options, look no further. I am not a vegetarian but do love me some amazing veg and this place did not disappoint. I got a veggie platter of sorts where you could pick a few from their menu as your entre and my husband got a chicken sandwich. His was wonderful and the veggies were perfect to split between the two of us. Watch the sauces on the veggies though. Some are much better than others. I would highly recommend the beets, others do not have nearly enough sauce or accompaniments though.
google avatar

Randy W.

Yelp
This location is bigger than the other one I've been to. Got the southwestern brunch bowl which exceeded my expectations, a very filling and savory dish. This is definitely my favorite chain and I'm constantly eating here.
google avatar

Cherrilyn B.

Yelp
A lot more spacious and less crowded than the Chelsea location. Still the same quality veggies!! I had the market platter ($18) with cauliflower, Bok Choy, zucchini, and asparagus. I added a side of grilled chicken ($6) and it was super moist and delish! Least fav was Bok Choy and fav was asparagus. The mac and cheese ($10) is also a MUST try. So creamy and cheesy. Happy hour is from 4-8 weekdays! Had cheap wine, draft beers, well drinks, Marg's and cosmos!

Nick F.

Yelp
Burger was ok. Bit salty, salad boring, dressing really acidic. Just wanted to note that it came packaged in an insane amount of plastic and metal waste. I just felt sick eating it looking at all this junk we just created together and then imagining the total volume of junk created by Westville and it's customers in one year. I think I'm done with this place, plenty of places out there using better / less packaging and serving better food.

Serge A.

Yelp
I really recommend this place, great service, great food and delicious desserts When I come back to NYC I'll definitely re visit this place.

Natalie S.

Yelp
This place has great food, but a terrible barren atmosphere and rude staff members. The Hudson street location has a new hostess that was so impolite, all we were trying to do was pick up our takeout order and go, and she kept us waiting for twenty minutes. She was not nice at all, when we asked about it again she said the kitchen was "really backed up" and didn't apologize. I love their cheeseburgers but this place needs to re-evaluate themselves.
google avatar

Tory C.

Yelp
Westville is consistently very good. Their market vegetables are flavorful, fresh, and the selection is very good. The dishes are healthy but not boring and the service is quick and the staff is very kind. Loved their Halloween decor too!! Would always go back
