5 Places To Eat Cheesesteaks In NYC

"Fifteen different kinds of burgers dominate the menu at Whitmans, but the best thing at this East Village spot is their cheesesteak. The soft bread is slightly toasted, the beef is a little crispy, and the charred onions are the perfect middle ground between crunchy and wilted. A Swiss and American cheese blend makes each bite a wonderful gooey amalgamation of every ingredient." - kenny yang, bryan kim

Whitmans East Village Review - East Village - New York - The Infatuation

"Unsurprisingly, the first thing you’ll see when you walk into this East Village spot is a picture of Walt Whitman. Most of the decor is Americana, with flags and Revolutionary War-era prints throughout. This place serves salads, one of the best cheesesteaks in town, and 15 different burgers, all of which are fairly large and cost around $15. We recommend the Juicy Lucy—but eat it fast before the pimento cheese cools and gets too gritty. If it’s crowded upstairs, head to the basement where there’s more seating and a stack of board games. No one here will mind if you order a few cans of beer and start a long game of Monopoly. photo credit: Ryan Muir" - Kenny Yang

Where To Eat Outside In The East Village

"Another solid burger and bar food option is Whitman’s on East 9th Street. This part of the block stays relatively calm, so keep this in mind when you decide you are no longer interested in loud noises and people drinking pitchers of margaritas." - hannah albertine, matt tervooren

"Though they’re famous for the Juicy Lucy (two hamburger patties sandwiched around a dollop of pimiento cheese), we actually like the Turkey Burger best (fried egg on top optional). They offer pretty much everything else we’ve ever craved for lunch, including an excellent kale salad (along with requisite kale chips), sweet potato fries, and the perfect grilled cheese."

Where to Find Iconic Regional America Dishes Across NYC - Eater NY

"The Juicy Lucy is a Minneapolis masterpiece. The sandwich, which is a cheeseburger with cheese inside the meat rather than on top of the patty, is available at Whitmans, which has locations in the East Village, Hudson Yards, and Soho. This restaurant is known for its indulgent burgers and offers two different renditions of the Minnesota classic: The original, of course, but also a blue cheese-stuffed alternative." - Andy Hirschfeld

Google
I can truly say there burgers was a big hit after going to play with my cousins we was starving and we choose Whitman worth every bite. Nicely cooked and very juicy. Fries was fresh hand cut potatoes pickles nice and crunch. Onion rings big and juicy. So if your ever close by 1st ave and 9 at go check them out. They even have games downstairs to help you pass the time while waiting for your food. We played Uno had a good time. Thanks Whitman

Google
Very small place and it was quite cold in there. The person working behind the counter was very nice. The fried pickles were unlike any we ever got before and at first we weren't sure what to think of them but then they quickly became addictive and we couldn't stop eating them. Very crunchy and delicious. The loaded tots were very good. I got the green chili burger. The onions on it were raw and not pickled like it said but I really didn't mind. My fiance got the Mangold burger and it was very good however it had the tiniest bit of the horseradish cream sauce on it so it was barely detectable and we wouldn't know it had it on there if we didn't read the menu.

Google
Burgers were absolutely perfect! They DO have a lettuce wrap option even though it's not on the menu, for the calorie-conscious. Absolutely recommend the Bluicy. Servers were nice albeit a little spacey and inexperienced, but it's not a fancy place so it's fine. Our server told us the fried kale side (crack kale) was healthier than getting fries...it did NOT taste healthy. It was drowning in grease, practically dripping with it. Would not recommend. Good decor, nice for a chill evening with friends. A bit too casual for a date.

Google
This place is the bomb. The employee that helped me was extremely helpful to a first timer in NYC. I'll definitely be making a stop here the next time I'm in the big city. Amazing burger to boot!

Google
I came here on a busy Friday night. There is downstairs seating but I came by myself so I was fine sitting at a counter and getting one of the burgers. The one I got was alright. I did find the fries to be awfully dry.

Bob Barzyk

Google
A bit expensive and some think the portions are small but I think it's the perfect size with relation to the bun and lettuce and other toppings. The raw onion on the classic burger was great and the homemade chips are delicious. Fries are good, too. Service was friendly and quick. Will go back for sure, we saw someone get a steak and cheese and it looked really good.

Google
This place is tucked into a quiet corner of St Marks Street. The burgers were on point with juicy meats, hot fries and optional unique toppings. In fact, I will have to come back to this place to try peanut butter on my burger. This place small hidden bathroom. The service was quick and my server was friendly.

Google
The cutest little table outside the door. Larry brings personal service with friendly chatter. Oh My Goodness...the fried pickles are THE summer treat perfected!

Yelp
Amazing burgers selection, great food quality and friendly staff. The restaurant has a cozy and relaxed vibe, highly recommended!

Yelp
The food is great. I don't eat beef but the Ultimate Burger is fantastic. Their pickles are great too. The atmosphere is great and you can contribute a drawing of Walt Whitman for display. My only issue is that it's unclear whether they will deliver or not. I have had food delivered before but I tried to order for delivery and was told they don't deliver. I had to bike there in the rain to get my food or I wasn't going to get it at all.

Yelp
After a show at UCB we came here for dinner. It was busy on a Friday night upstairs but downstairs was dead. I have been here a number of times but it has been a few years. I got the juicy Lucy which was excellent and the fried pickles which were also very good. The fries are amazing as well. It's like a rump room style downstairs which is fun. Definitely come here for burgers if you're in the area!
google avatar

Yelp
Solid lunch spot in the neighborhood. The fries are far superior to the tater tots. Lamb burger was really tasty, but did think it was bizarre that the cheese came on the side. You can skip the fried pickles and just order some more fries.
google avatar

Jordan C.

Yelp
The juicy Lucy is easily, the best burger in New York... Forget going to JG melon and spending $25 on a burger that you waited online an hour for! Yeah I said it. Lol sorry jg whitmans is fire ! Oh, and get the loaded tots... Trust me

Yelp
We stopped by while we were shopping around the Hudson Yards area and were craving a good burger. My sister really enjoyed the Juicy Lucy and even wanted to order a second one! The service was also very fast and our server was very nice. The prices were also very reasonable. If you come, make sure to order the Juicy Lucy :)

Yelp
I've got nothing but positive vibes for this joint! We've eaten inside and had delivery and I can promise you, they food is always great and consistent. Staff is friendly and chill! I get the Juicy Lucy (my fav) and their fries....oh their fries! You can add blue cheese "dressing" that is to DIE for!!!! Ask for extra ketchup if you do delivery! The food is legit and they do offer up some tasty beer/cider too!

Terry T.

Yelp
The Bluicy with soggy undercooked bacon and no drink $42. I usually go to the restaurant and have always liked their burgers. This time I tried delivery and this is what came.

Yelp
Four stars feels just about right for this spot. They have a lot of burger options and a really nice variety of sides (tots, fries, onion rings, sushito peppers, sweet potato fries). The burger felt like something I would eat in my house growing up, it isn't fancy but it gets the job done and hits the spot. Probably better for taking out than dining in. The dining room downstairs is a bit gloomy and overly quiet. I kind of felt like I was eating in someone's bomb shelter.

L S.

Yelp
Four and a half stars for Whitmans, only because I didn't like the cheesesteak that much, but I want to try the burgers. We were a large group on a not-busy Sunday. They were very accommodating and took care of us. Very nice, pleasant servers. I have celiac (not very sensitive to cross-contamination), and the server was very knowledgeable about cross-contamination in the fryer so warned me about the fries. She rattled off the list of non-fried sides I could sub, so I ordered the sauteed corn. It was SOOOO good - it had a tangy sauce on it and it was honestly better than the cheesesteak that I got (which they also accommodated - they put mine on the burger buns instead of the hoagie; they don't have GF hoagies, only GF burger buns, but who cares?). Point being, they catered to my dietary needs, I was super-impressed. Would go back and try the burgers.

Yelp
Whitman's has a nice shack set up for outdoor seating with heat lamps for their three or so tables. It was a nice place for a cold Friday. We ordered a wedge salad and fried pickles to start. The pickles were very crispy and had a good sauce to go with it. The wedge salad was pretty good as well. I don't love blue cheese so I scraped a lot of the dressing off but the bacon bits went well with it. We shared the juicy Lucy burger between two of us. The burger was a bit smaller than I expected although it was quite heavy with all the cheese so we were still full at the end of the meal. Overall a cozy place to for outdoor dining. Service was a little slow although expected given COVID times.

Yelp
Stopped in at Whitmans for lunch on a whim. We sat outside on a beautiful, sunny fall afternoon. Water was brought over right away and after spotting fried pickles on the menu, we knew we made a good choice. We started with the fried pickles and ordered 2 Diet Cokes. The Diet Cokes are served in a can at $3 a pop. We each ordered a burger, the veggie and the classic, and split an order of spicy brussel sprouts and fries. Everything was fantastic! The brussel sprouts had a nice kick and the fries were crunchy but soft. The burgers had a great sauce and were grilled to perfection. Definitely will be back to try the onion rings and some of their other burgers; there's a bunch to choose from. If you're in the area and looking for a quick bite to eat, stop and check out Whitmans!

Yelp
More of a 3.5 but I'll round up this time. The burgers are good and they have a big selection to choose from. They range from $11-$14 for just the burger. The sides are the real winners here. The fried pickles are thinly sliced, super crispy, and addictive. The onion rings are large, delicately fried on the outside and tender, not stringy, on the inside. Fries are good and brussel sprouts don't hurt. Friendly staff and quaint interiors.

Yelp
Pretty solid burger. Not what i remember it being but itll suffice in a pinch. Calm no frills vibe, dont bring to impress, just for a low key dinner.

Yelp
Took 40 minutes to recieve raw burgers. We tried to return them they just came back from being microwaved. Misshapen, disgusting. I begged twice for silverware only to have to share a fork with my friend. We had malt vinegar on the table and the waitress took it away stating it wasn't ketchup. Decided to leave and the slacker rude server was just nasty to us. She would saw ...I'm not the kitchen..and..I'm a one women operating.. Poor food Poor service. NO AND NO@

Michael L.

Yelp
Heinous delivery. Unbelievable. How do you let the beef from the cheesesteak come outside the sandwich to the fries?
google avatar

Yelp
The burgers were delicious, the decor and ambiance . Very glad I stumbled upon Whitmans

Yelp
Amazing fantastic burgers and new pickles. Always great staff. Highly recommend! Great dark wood ambiance.

Yelp
The Juicy Lucy Burger is mind blowing. I'll say it again, MIND BLOWING. I've never been to Whitman's in person but when I'm in the mood to order an amazing "treat yourself" burger, I don't even consider other options. The moment when you bite into it and gooey pimento cheese comes oozing out is just glorious. I even ordered it for my sister who rarely eats red meat at all, and even she was a fan. Must try!

Yelp
We came here yesterday for lunch as we needed a break from our NYCC venture. The restaurant was very nice and had great decore. They offer indoor and outdoor seating, but we decided to sit indoors. The food was the best part in my opinion as our food came out quick after we ordered and it was a delicious way to fill up and recharge before we went back to the convention. Can't wait to visit again when I'm back in the city.
google avatar

Yelp
Big fan of the cheesesteak. Seasoned well. Only opp would be that the fries are sometimes way over cooked when I order delivery.
google avatar

Yelp
Burger burger burger time! This burger shop is very small and you can easily pass it. It has a cool hip east village vibe with a few small tables on the 1st floor and a large dinning area in the basement. The waitress was very nice I got the juicy Lucy (beef short rib blend stuffed with pimento cheese, caramelized onion, bibb lettuce, tomato, spicy pickles, special sauce, on sesame bun) and Whitman's Classic (beef short rib blend patty, seared onion, bibb lettuce, tomato, new pickles, special sauce on potato bun )and the Brussels spouts. The Juicy Lucy i ordered medium rare was cooked perfectly and the quality of meat was very good but I thought it lacked flavor and spices and it was good but it won't wow you and my pops felt the same way about the Whitman classic. The Brussel Sprouts were crispy full of flavor and absolutely delicious just this will make me come back. In short: -Cool Burger Joint -Nice Wait Staff - Ok burgers -Great Brussel sprouts

Yelp
I've been ordering delivery on game days from this spot and I'm super glad I've started this mini tradition. The food is always warm upon arrival and I love that they have quite a few different burgers to choose from to suit the new week's craving! (I haven't been brave enough to try the PB burger yet, but it's on my to-do!) I will say, I think my favorite burger from here has to be the Bluicy. It's melty, cheesey, funky (in a good way) and delectable. I mean come on, who doesn't love things STUFFED WITH CHEESE. It really does make life better. I also have gotten the sweet potato fries and DANG these were so good. They are perfectly flaky and seasoned to perfection. (If only they had honey mustard to go with them.) This is my go-to fancy burger now. Definitely try this out for yourself! 4.7/5
google avatar

Yelp
I ordered from here via DoorDash last night because I was craving a burger and this place has been on my list for a while! Also, they are one of the only places I've seen in NYC that has a peanut butter burger which is truly one of my favorites (don't knock it until you try it). The order came really quickly (within 25 minutes). The burger was so good. It was cooked really well and also just loved that it had bacon and peanut butter on it. Such a good flavor complement. I would have loved to go here in person in normal times, but it will be something I have to look forward to! They also have blue cheese fries on the menu which I was for sure eyeing, but I'll be getting them next time for sure.

Yelp
Came here awhile back. Walking around East Village, we decided to check this place out. Some seating is available upstairs, additional seating downstairs. This place is cozy and if you go early enough, it shouldn't be hard finding a seat. Service was quick and friendly. The ambiance is laid back and this is a no frills type place. Love it. Tried the Juicy Lucy. The beef patty is made up of a short rib blend stuffed with pimento cheese. Seared well on the outside and filled with gooey cheesy goodness on the inside. The burger is topped off with caramelized onion, bibb lettuce, tomato, spicy pickles, special sauce, all in between a sesame bun. Perfection! The fries were delicious, crisp and seasoned well. Overall, I'm glad we got a chance to try Whitman's out!

Charles R.

Yelp
looks like they are short on employees. been here for over an hour. still no food.
google avatar

Jamie W.

Yelp
Whitman's is an excellent burger, with mediocre service and a lack of sides (you can order sides, but it's my personal opinion that a burger should come with fries at a minimum). The wait staff didn't bring us silverware, napkins were nowhere to be found, and refills of water and beer were rare. Definitely order the crack kale. It is AMAZING. The regular and sweet potato fries are solid, but nothing to write home about. We are the Hound burger, applewood smoked bacon infused patty, arugula, smoked gruyere, potato crips, on potato bun. Yay for no brioche bun! Also yay for precooking the bacon so it's crispy and delicious instead of soggy and greasy.

Yelp
After watching the afc championship game, I was in the mood for burgers around the saint marks area. Was debating between this and Paul's da burger joint. We decided on here after reading Paul's was greasy, and also the pictures of burgers here also looked a lot more appealing. It was empty when we arrived so seating was no problem. I had a hard time deciding between the pb&b burger(peanut butter and bacon) or the bacon, egg and cheese (exactly as is sounds). I ended up going with the bacon, egg and cheese. Food came pretty quickly. Came with a decently sized patty, apple wood smoked bacon and a fried egg on top. Definitely looked very yummy. After the first bite, I was satisfied with the taste. Burger was cooked medium like I asked, the egg and bacon made the burger even better (bacon makes everything better). I devoured the burger in probably 5 bites or so. Even though the burger is gigantic, still filling with the egg and bacon. At $11, not a bad price at all.
google avatar

Marissa S.

Yelp
For a neighborhood burger joint, you can't really go wrong by placing an order at Whitman's. I've tried an assortment of burgers here and while the Mangold is probably my favorite, the others have all been comparable. Not gonna blow your socks off but you will be thoroughly satisfied. Add on some fries cuz why not?
google avatar

Yelp
My first Yelp review as a person who lives in New York! (Not quite a "New Yorker"...) Decided to grab an easy bite here after deciding we weren't really feeling the heavy meal that would be Thursday Kitchen (a few doors down the street). Food: 4/5 Beer: 2/5 Service: 3/5 We ordered the Bluicy and the Spicy Patty. Perfectly fine burgers (both done medium rare, as requested), didn't feel greasy and satisfied our taste buds. I actually really enjoyed the pepper blend in the Spicy Patty. Nothing special about the sesame bun, though - wasn't even warm or toasted. They were out of tater tots, so we got the fries which were average. They didn't have the beers we wanted, so we opted for a couple of Yuengling... served slightly colder than lukewarm. Yuck. Our server was friendly, but frankly didn't quite know what he was doing. He didn't know what was unavailable (which turned out to be a lot) and he wasn't familiar with the beer menu. All fine for a quick meal, but definitely not the type of service you would normally expect!
google avatar

Gordon Y.

Yelp
Juicy Lucy! What a explosion of flavor! I tend to like my burgers simple and not overly done with toppings. However, cheese is a must for me, and Whitman's did that in a uniquely delicious way. If you read all the other reviews, you'll know that the creamy center of this burger is filled with gooey goodness. The meat was cooked very well, which was surprising since the patty didn't have a normal center. The soft pillowy bread and fresh condiments made this a real treat.
google avatar

Yelp
The majority of the seats are downstairs so that was interesting. Not sure how it is regularly, but the waitstaff was upstairs so for people who want instant service for the little things like water refills and extra napkins, expect a bit of a delay. The only people that are downstairs for good are the people in the kitchen. Onto the food. What American doesn't like sinful burgers? Being someone that's both bad at making decision and really good at being gluttonous, I ordered a side of tots and two burgers: The Juicy Lucy and the PB&B. The Juicy Lucy is Whitman's favorite. The beef patty comes stuffed with pimento cheese and is topped off with caramelized onions, spicy pickles, lettuce, tomatoes, and Whitman's special sauce. Obviously the biggest draw is the stuffed cheese. It was a serviceable burger, but as a whole it was surprisingly underwhelming. Be careful how you bite into the burger too. The first two bites I took exploded all over my face, but for most of us we're really no stranger to that. Enjoy. The PB&B Burger was the highlight of my dining experience at Whitman's. Every bite was just downright sinful. Luxurious. Whatever word you want to use to describe something that just makes you feel guilty for loving something so much. If you're a peanut butter fan, don't miss out on this combination. One thing I want to point out is that both burgers were served on non-toasted buns. The Juicy Lucy on a sesame bun and the PB&B Burger on a potato bun. Tots were pretty standard. Nothing wrong with them.

Jessica M.

Yelp
There aren't many places one can call perfection, but Whitman's is close to it. Stepping out from a hot day, my mom, best friend, and I decided to eat unbeknownst to what amazing experience we had there. Not only was the ambience absolutely amazing with its soothing colors, uncrowded area, and amazing tunes to listen to, but the service was just as excellent if not more. Our server Rebecca was incredibly engaging and knowledgeable on the menu. The only hesitation I had was the wait on the food taking longer than expected, but that was because you can tell the effort put into it whilst taking the first bite. Such an amazing venue and space to spend any day.

Yelp
Whitman's was such a cool place! Although, we were a party of 6 and we had to sit in the basement, because they couldn't sit us upstairs or outside (those tables are for smaller parties). Their burgers were amazing though! I had a grilled cheese - everyone else I was with had a burger, and I tried them. I would definitely get a burger next time. Although the grilled cheese was made with three different cheeses and was literally the best grilled cheese I've ever had! We also ordered the sausage appetizer. I was starving and needed something to start with. It was big enough to share with several people. And, it was super tasty. I would definitely come back here but I would order the burger, because it looks like that's the go-to item here. I would also probably only go with one or two other people next time so I could sit upstairs or outside. It was sort of stuffy downstairs in the basement with no air flow. I'll be back to try something else next time!

Yelp
Whitman's is a place of comfort. It's intimate, cozy and dim lit. A perfect setting for deep conversations and amazing specialty crafted burgers. I had the Juicy Lucy and boy is it JUICY! It is literally the opposite of dry. It's smothered and bathed in flavor and onions, which are my absolute favorite. Pair this burger with a Brooklyn Brewery beer and it's a match made in heaven. I've never had a craving for a burger before but now I will. The onion rings are also crispy and are a great accompaniment to the meal. The staff is also friendly and accomadating with seating. Highly recommend this spot!

Yelp
I got their juicy Lucy burger and it did not disappoint! I wished it would of came with some fries but that you have to order separately. I always walk past this joint and always thought to myself that it's very small inside but today I found out they also have a basement that fits about 8 more tables downstairs. The burger was a decent sized. Not small like superior burgers. I should of gotten their fried pickles those were looking good! Next time.

Maddy L.

Yelp
Food was excellent. Fried prickles and brussel sprouts are a must. Great ambiance, wonderful staff (Kaitlin was awesome, attentive, and friendly). Food came out quickly and hot. Will be back to try juicy Lucy and cheesesteaks.

Yelp
Oh. My. God. Had such a great time eating here. The vibes we're so fun and chill. Our server, Desani (like the water) was so kind and helpful. She recommended the penut butter burger and it was delectable. Would recommend Desani to start modeling, she is stunin...#bestwaitress5ever

Yelp
Amazing burgers, both classic Juicy Lucy to creative twists like PB&B with amazing sides! Where do you go when you need an amazing burger without breaking the bank? You come to Whitman's and get the Juicy Lucy! Perfect beef patty with piping hot pimento cheese oozing off the side. You will feel like you are in a Carl's Jr commercial as you eat that Juicy Lucy! I was tempted by the PB&B (Peanut Butter and Bacon Burger) because I wanted something different and I always wanted to know what it would be like. When it comes, you feel kind of sad because its just one color note whereas the Juicy Lucy is all red, yellow, green. However, it actually really works and they do it well! Crispy bacon with peanut butter and a perfectly seared burger patty! I was scared the peanut butter was too thick, but the heat of the bacon and patty melted the sauce. It was good! Crack kale has such a fitting name. The crispiest kale I have ever had, but not too oily! You can never replicate something like this at home! Perfectly seasoned, not too salty! We almost had to fight each other over the crack kale and ended up getting one to go for a friend. The only miss was the chips that accompanied the entrees such as Mama's boy. They were quite soggy and kind of disappointing compared to how crispy the kale was.

Yelp
My girlfriend and I were looking for a quick bite after both having a tough day at work. We decided to try out Whitmans because she heard some good things about it. Needless to say, it lived up to its reputation and exceeded my expectations. The food itself is pretty standard stuff, you know what you're getting. The service alone however was what made me write this review. Peter was super friendly and did a great job making sure we were happy with everything. Luckily it wasn't too busy which allowed us to get into conversations about beer recommendations, talks about music and what brought us to dinner that night. After an 11 hour work day, all you want is a satisfying meal with great service. We could not ask for more from Peter and Whitmans. Will be back soon. Side note: the new smash burger could use some pickles, and the juicy lucy is another great choice.

Yelp
My friends and I stumbled upon this burger spot while heading to Thursday kitchen. Maybe it was destined for us to go to Whitman's because Thursday kitchen was packed, we were hungry and was not willing to join that wait list. I told my friends we should just get burgers. Walking in it is small, a bar seating, 2 tables for 2. We thought we might have to sit at the bar but the server directed us a downstairs section. Downstairs there are more seatings and tables. It's still small but I'm sure if you come at the right time, you can seat a party of 8-10 when they combine the tables. We ordered the local beer sausage as starters, it came with a side of spicy brown mustard and caramelized onions. This dish is limited on availability so it's until they sell out for the day. The sausage was good, it had a nice snap to it, not too salty. Pair it with the sweet caramelized onions and mustard and that can be addicting. We ordered the classic burger, Juicy Lucy, and Bluicy burgers. For sides we shared; tater tots, blue cheese fried and onion rings. My friends that had the classic and Juicy Lucy said the burgers were really good. The Juicy Lucy is filled with pimiento cheese! My Bluicy was cooked medium, the way I like it. The Bluicy is filled with blue cheese. My Bluicy burger was really good. The food was good but portion is small.

Yelp
3.5 stars Ordered a Whitman's classic for $8 and fries $5. I didn't care for the fries and who doesn't like fries, right? But these were over fried, dry and soggy. Maybe that's just the way they make them here but I could only manage to eat half of them and I hate wasting food. The burger.. now that was juicy and delicious, but so small. I don't know if it's the best burger I've had but it's definitely a pretty good classic burger. Seasoned nicely, not overly salty. Cooked medium. Definitely better than the popular high end burger chains, ie S.S, Bare... but it also costs a lot more.. good burgers, just mediocre fries.

We had the day off work and after a tough morning of sleeping in & gymming, we decided we wanted a burger for lunch. The short: this place didn't disappoint. It's tiny & charming and the food was incredible. I wouldn't come here if I was in a rush (it's good for leisurely eating). The longer: I accidentally turned the lights off when we walked in [note: don't lean on the wall near the front door], but then we headed downstairs. It's dimly lit and cutely/patriotically decorated. We started with the fried pickles. Amazing. Highly recommend as a starter. We then shared the burger special of the day-- horseradish cheddar with caramelized onions and mushrooms; the bacon, egg & cheese burger; Brussels sprouts and blue cheese fries. We both LOVED the bacon, egg & cheese burger. The burgers are on the smaller side, but super flavorful. The fries were a little too blue cheesy for me, but the Brussels sprouts were bomb. Pro tip: use the fried pickle dipping sauce with your Brussels. The waitress was SO nice, but had a lot of tables, so service was a little on the slower side, but it was so good and we'd definitely be back.

Yelp
Whitman's was a burger place that has been on my list for a while so when my friend recommend that we go there for dinner, I was really excited. Located in the east village, Whitman's is known for being one of the better burger joints in the area. I love burgers but sadly Whitman's just didn't live up the hype for me. When you first walk up to the restaurant, you'll see a small seating area outside. Once you walk in there's a small sitting area with a register. To the right it the stairs where the bigger space is located. You also get greeted with a friendly smile from a hostess when first entering. I was a bit surprised by how small both upstairs and downstairs was, but I was definitely digging the decor and the artifacts on the wall. The waiter was friendly, attentive and gave off a cool/chill vibe. I really had this place bookmarked to try their BLuicy burger but since I was trying to behave, I decided to go with the turkey burger which comes with avocado, sprouts, minced shallots cooked in sesame oil, and cilantro mayo on a sesame bun. Since I love bacon, you know I had to add it to the burger. When the burger came out I was a bit disappointed as it was small and lacked presentation. The taste of the meat was alright but nothing to brag about. I just felt the burger was lacking taste and was boring. I also ordered a side of sautéed kale and it was honestly the worst tasting sautéed kale I've ever had. I disliked it so much that I didn't bother to finish but luckily my friend enjoyed it a bit. My friend ordered the PB&B (beef short rib blend patty, peanut butter and applewood smoked bacon on a potato bun) and loved it. I was able try it and thought I was better than my turkey burger (but aren't all regular burgers) but still felt it was small. We also shared an order of sweet potato fries which was good. Now don't get me wrong..... I've definitely enjoyed many burgers that were small in size, but this just wasn't one of them. I'm also fully aware that I had a turkey burger and not a regular burger which is why I'm willing to come back, try one of their creative burgers and them another shot. At least I now know what to expect size wise for my burger and to stay away from the sautéed kale. Till next time Whitman's.....

Yelp
Excellent fish. The Romulade, tarter and cocktail sauces are excellent. I placed an online order and food was ready at the time they told me it would be. If you dine in they have a free Margarita and beer option.

Yelp
Yummy! Ordered the veggie burger for myself and loved it!!!! Added avocado and jalapeño to make it a little more fancy but would 100000% order it again. My boyfriend got a bacon burger and sweet potato fries. Delicious

Yelp
While on the hunt for best cheeseburger in NYC (an impossible task but good excuse to eat a lot of cheeseburgers), this place came up on social media as having amazing burgers. My boyfriend and I went on a Tuesday night around 6:30. We walked into a tiny store front and were confused whether that was it or there was other seating downstairs. No one was upstairs who noticed and pointed any direction. We went downstairs and saw additional seating- It was almost empty with just one other table seated. We ordered the fried pickles, tater tots, two juicy Lucy's (one medium, one medium rare). The fried pickles were ok. Served with the same spicy mayo type sauce as the tater tots, which were probably the best thing we had. Very crispy and light. The juicy Lucy's were just ok. Nothing special and not that juicy. My boyfriend who is from Minnesota and has had a juicy Lucy or two in his day was not impressed. We probably won't be back. Especially when the main draw of the place isn't that great or cheesy.
