"Co-owner Chris Lucchese recounts: "We closed Wednesday through Friday and escaped town. We decided to open last Friday with a few workers and saw a bunch of regulars. The end of 2024 was pretty slow already. We know many people in Altadena who lost their homes, and some who were spared. A lot of people who live in or around Glassell Park are in the film and television industry, and finally just started working again after the 2023 writers’ and actors’ strike. They are our customers. They said a lot of productions shut down this week. Our numbers last weekend were below half of what we’re used to seeing. It would help to have customers just come in and have a glass of wine and a cheese board." Main takeaways: closures during peak fire days, below 50% of normal weekend volume, customer base tied to productions that paused, and a simple plea for modest patronage to support staff." - Eater Staff
"You can rent out the tasting room at Wife and the Somm, a new-ish wine bar in Glassell Park run by—you guessed it—a husband and wife duo. Both its long, wooden table and private tasting room can comfortably seat up to 18 guests." - sylvio martins
"Wife & The Somm is a casual neighborhood wine bar in Glassell Park that’s much bigger than it appears from the sidewalk. With two different interconnecting patios and a main bar area that’s as outside as it is inside, you have several choices when it comes to seating. If you’re rolling in with a big group though, we recommend the leafy, semi-private back patio. When it comes to the food, expect small plates like charcuterie, seasonal pasta like tagliatelle in yuzu butter, and other things that taste great as you work your way down their excellent wine list, which includes an entire chilled red section." - jess basser sanders, brant cox, brett keating
"Glassell Park’s cozy neighborhood wine bar is worth checking out for the wines and the outdoor patio. The snackable menu has cheese and charcuterie, plus easy fare like braised short ribs and pasta. It’s also an excellent place for brunch." - Eater Staff
