"Inside the Swedish American Hall on Market Street is Wooden Spoon—a casual sit-down brunch spot serving up American morning classics with the occasionally Swedish twist. Expect to see brunch staples like the giant granola crunch french toast covered in powdered sugar and raspberries, which we crave on a continual basis. Other options that get the job done are the huevos divorciados with vegan chorizo, and a panini stacked high with rosemary ham, fontina, and scrambled eggs on a piece of toasted ciabatta. The best part is that the service is lightning-quick. Your order will arrive before you can even begin to drop your newest weekend confession on your friends." - lani conway, julia chen 1, ricky rodriguez

"Wooden Spoon, a new breakfast and lunch restaurant, is set to open in the former Aatxe space in the Swedish American Hall. It is the creation of brothers Dylan and Rowan MacNiven, along with partner/chef August Shuchman. The restaurant will offer a menu ranging from healthy options to hearty breakfast items, including dishes like eggs, pancakes, Dungeness crab frittata, and vegan chorizo hash. A few Scandinavian dishes such as Swedish pancakes and open-faced sandwiches will also be available. The restaurant will serve cocktails, including bloody marys and greyhounds, and coffee from Sightglass. Wooden Spoon is designed to be a casual and family-friendly spot, drawing on the MacNiven family's experience in the brunch restaurant business. The venue will open on May 16 and operate from Wednesday to Sunday, 8 a.m. to 3 p.m., with plans to eventually open seven days a week." - Ellen Fort

Amazing brunch spot! Food was incredible, the staff was super accommodating to us since we had a stroller. Definitely will come back😻 I had the salmon scrambled eggs dish and my partner- the short rib one. Also the chocolate chip cookie and latte were delicious as well🙌🏻

Google
Second time trying to go to this place and the line was short this time. First time we left because of how long the wait was. Definitely worth coming to but I still don’t think I would wait over 30min. -Granola French Toast! A must have no matter what else is ordered. Eat it as a dessert, ya can’t go wrong. It was awesomeness. -Huervos Divorciados was a great combination of flavors and the best take on that dish that e ever had. -House Hash was different than what I was expecting and tasted great! The meat was tender and the flavor were awesomeness.

Google
Sat at the bar for breakfast and had a wonderful time. Got the Big Spoon and the soft scrambled eggs. All cooked perfectly but what stood out were the potatoes for both dishes. They were absolutely, perfectly roasted; crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. The bartender was friendly and made a fantastic drink (Pimm's Cup, very refreshing!)

Google
Top notch service. We went around 10:30 a.m. for breakfast parked right down the street. It wasn't busy yet so we didn't have to wait long for a table or our food. Food was delicious, restaurant had plenty of seating and clean bathrooms. I would definitely recommend coming here for breakfast.

Google
6.5 surprisingly good brunch. Soft scrambled egg was great would def order again. Muesli was good and healthy and not too sweet but a little sweet. Pretty good order.

The atmosphere is warm and inviting, making it a perfect place to relax and enjoy a meal. The staff are exceptionally friendly and attentive, adding to the overall delightful experience. If you're looking for a top-notch brunch destination, Wooden Spoon is definitely the place to go.

So much delicious brunch and beyond. Had the Hangtown Fry to get me through a long ✈️. So good. They also host some fun shows beyond brunch time.

Came here with a friend on a Monday afternoon with no wait! There was a wait and you had to physically write your name on a clipboard outside the restaurant, but we only needed to wait about 10 minutes to get seated so it wasn't too bad. Good: - The food here was healthy and fresh! I got the grain bowl and found it to be more savory than I imagined - I liked the sweet potato and the grain - the mushroom was also really savory. - I liked the latte with oat milk here too. Bad: - Longer wait and time to get service, so we sat around for quite a while before we ended up getting served. Overall had a great time and the aesthetics here are really nice for a catchup!

Yelp
i came here on a monday (holiday that most people don't have off) with a group of 3 at 1:30 - we wanted to avoid the wait time that we had heard is typical of the weekends and sure enough, we were seated immediately and there were plenty of open tables. i ordered the market st. benedict for myself and we ordered the granola crunch french toast to share as dessert. i liked that the benedict came with a variety of sides including a salad, potatoes, and fruit. i took half the salad and potatoes to go. the potatoes were probably my favorite part of the dish, they're by no means standout potatoes among all brunch spots but they were good. the ketchup came in a jar which was interesting, we weren't sure of the best way to extract the ketchup. i used a fork and my friend tried directly dumping some ketchup onto her plate but dumped too much since it can come out pretty quickly. the service was patient and attentive - they gave us more plates for sharing the french toast and offered bags with our takeout boxes. overall had a great experience and would come back; it's a solid brunch spot even if none of the food in particular stood out.

Yelp
Nice brunch spot in the Castro! My friend and I came around 11 on a Saturday for brunch and were able to get seated fast, but def recommend getting here early if you don't want to wait. There is a whole area you don't see from outside so it is busy. My friend and I shared a morning bowl and the French toast. Both were super tasty!! The French toast did not have an eggy flavor of you are nervous about that. But it's definitely a nice sweet treat. I loved the morning bowl as a healthy savory option, so definitely recommend that for vegetarians. I also got a latte which was just a classic latte. Still good if you need that coffee in the morning. They provide a sugar cube if you like it sweetened. It is loud in the restaurant, as I did find it difficult to talk to my friend at times. So keep that in mind when visiting we you may have to talk louder than expected. Overall, food and service was still a great experience!

Yelp
One of the best brunches I've had in the city! Portions are big and you can tell the food is fresh, made with good-quality ingredients. Although I have so many other brunch spots to visit on my list, I would come here again to try other dishes - that's how good it is. Our Orders: * The Big Spoon: literally comes with every breakfast item you'd want! perfect for people who want a little bit of everything. the pancakes are so fluffy and the biscuit was buttery and toasty - everything on this plate is immaculate! would def recommend if you're looking for a hearty, FULL breakfast * Morning Bowl (+avocado): this was so refreshing and I literally love the incorporation of squash in this bowl. a great refreshing, healthy meal to start your morning. Note: NO online reservations so I would try to get here early if anything because the lines get pretty long. * We heard that it gets pretty busy and that wait times are lengthy on the weekends so my boyfriend and I went about an hour after they had opened and only had to wait maybe 10 minutes. By the time we sat though, the line was getting pretty lengthy.

Karina B.

Yelp
Took some family here from out of town and it is still a favorite. It does get a bit busy on weekends and we waited about 30-40 min for a 3 top. Warning: If you have a common name make sure you watch the waitlist. It is paper and someone tried to take our spot when we were called. Wish they would modernize this system. The service is super quick and we got the grape fruit juice which was perfectly sweet, bitter, and tart! The soft scrambled eggs and potatoes are a 10/10.

Miranda L.

Yelp
Went there for late lunch at around 12:45 pm and got seated at the counter where we could see them cooking. The staff were very friendly, giving us their personal recommendations and popular dishes. They have a variety of breakfast and lunch foods as well as gluten free or vegan options. Chinese Chicken Salad - A very refreshing and light dish. The cashew soy dressing was nutty, sweet and lemony which elevated the ingredients and tasted well with the chicken. The vegetables were chopped very finely and it was lined with sweet orange and radish. Market St Benedict - Some of the best eggs benedict I have had. The hollandaise sauce was rich and had perfect consistency. The poached eggs were cooked nicely, popping well over the soft english muffin. The sides were also tasty with potatoes that were lightly crisp, seasoned nicely and salad coated in a creamy dressing. The dishes were the best size for the two of us to share and finish. I am definitely looking forward to going back to try some of their plates and sandwiches we saw being made.

Yelp
This is one of my favorite breakfast/brunch spots in San Francisco. Service is top notch and all the workers are friendly. Prices are on par, or competitive. And the food is prepared wonderfully both visually and taste-wise. I ordered: THE BIG SPOON . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 25 eggs any style, bacon, potatoes, toast, pancakes, fruit. This is their version of the LumberJack breakfast. Everything item you could want except maybe some sausage or a slice of ham would really complete this meal. But still an all around solid entree to order. FRIED CHICKEN & BISCUIT . . . . . . . . . . . . 17 buttermilk biscuit, hot honey, honey butter. I liked this item but I actually think it is better visually than taste-wise. Needed some hot sauce or something to give it more kick. Maybe some more salt. But as mentioned at the beginning, service is excellent. The casual ambience is perfect for brunch. And all the food that leaves the kitchen looks delicious.

Yelp
First visit: lunch. BLT excellent, nice fresh tomato, chewy bacon. I'm not a fan of focaccia bread, but that's just me. My friend William was very happy with his tuna melt. Next visit: breakfast. The classic eggs & bacon delivered. But this visit I'm on a quest to find the perfect avocado toast. Pretty darn good here. Ridiculously large slice of bread, very tasty ingredients, only complaint was the bread wasn't really toasted. Maybe a little crispy on the edges. Reminds me of the Seinfeld episode at the car rental, where the car he reserved didn't exist. They knew how to take a rez, just didn't know how to hold a rez. Ok, bad analogy, but if you're offering something called toast, why not toast it! Still, this is a great place, especially for breakfast. The food is all fresh and delicious, great friendly service. I'll definitely be back.

Yelp
We went on a Wednesday morning and had a wonderful breakfast after attending a [solidcore] class right across the street. Our server was exceptionally good and such a kind man, he gave me more water for my tea and kept asking to top off my partners coffee! We got the chicken biscuit and avocado toast and both were delicious and the perfect amount of food for a week day breakfast! Would come again and order those exact items :) Ambiance is super cute, modern and hipster and good for all ages!

Joe R.

Yelp
Had the Swedish waffles and also ordered the grape fruit juice which was exceptional . The staff were attentive and the restaurant had super cool Vibes . I plan on coming back and try more of the menu !

G P.

Yelp
Love the service and food, just small portions and high prices. Coffee was great, and their grain bowl was to die for. Their pancakes and fried chicken was delicious too!!

Areeta W.

Yelp
Average SF brunch place. We came here on a Saturday around 1pm and got seated on the the community table after a 15-20 minute wait. We ordered and food came quickly. I ordered the Swedish House Pancakes and it was alright: the pancakes were like a thick crepe style. Portions were ok. Overall, not much to say, just your typical American brunch place.

Tanita J.

Yelp
Great service and great food/drinks! Came here on Sunday morning after SF 10k. We were seated fairly quick because we agreed to sit at the bar (note: most of their seating is bar seating) Bartender was an angel. Started with bloody Mary's. SOOOO good. Super spicy though so I couldn't finish it LOL For food we got the breakfast sandwich and the soft scramble. The breakfast sandwich might be the best I've ever had. You could tell that the bread was freshly baked. Scramble came with potatoes, salad and fruit. Might seem pricey on the menu but the portions are literally huge. Came to $100 after tip for 2 meals, 2 drinks, 20% tip, etc. I'd say this is pretty standard for SF prices. Will be back fersure!

Yelp
One of the best brunch place to go in sf. In my opinion just good food and good service. Think of a nice day on a weekday that you wanna hanging out at the duboce park and feel like a bite to eat. I definitely recommend this place. The restaurant gives really cozy vibe. Service is really nice. A lot of choices on the menu , either you want breakfast or lunch. We got fried chicken sandwiche with rosemary focaccia bread and it was crab season, they also offer soft scrambled eggs with local Dungeness crab with fruit salad and potato. Along with black coffee and fresh squeezed orange juice. Gotta say that both of them are really good and satisfying. If you in the area I really recommend this place. Definitely going back!!!

Shreha J.

Yelp
Review for vegans / vegetarians! I often can't eat much at brunch spots since I am a vegetarian that doesn't eat eggs - I had an amazing time at wooden spoon!! They have vegan just egg, and vegan chorizo patties, so I could have almost everything on the menu since substitutions were allowed. I ordered the huevos divorciados which were really delicious and flavor packed 8.5/10. It came with both the vegan egg and chorizo which tasted good and all the flavor combinations were great. Overall a solid dish, comes with two types of sauces and fillings. The ricotta cara cara toast was DELISH 9.5/10 - we shared this with the table and it was great. There's a thick layer of ricotta with juicy cara cara oranges sprinkled with pistachios. It was decadent and a great way to get some sweetness into the meal (but very mildly sweet) The biscuits with vegetarian gravy was AWEEESOME 10/10 would recommend ordering this for sure since it was buttery and decadent and delicious. The gravy was sooooooo yummy and thick and flavorful, probably one of the best i've had. Overall a great spot, good drinks, solid bloody mary and espresso martini, awesome menu for vegans, and my non vegan friends enjoyed it too. I'll be coming back! (Service was very slow so would suggest going on a day when you have plenty of time haha - but still friendly so didn't take a point off for it!)

Sarah W.

Yelp
Great food, nice service, warm ambiance. I had the eggs Benedict, which they made vegetarian by subbing the vegan chorizo. It was delicious. Only thing I wish is that for $5, the tea had been nicer quality.

Mansi A.

Yelp
My friend wanted you to try this place originally because they had a great variety of vegan options/substitutes. I thought it was a good brunch overall! The Granola Crunch French Toast was not too sweet and the portion size was great. I really enjoyed the that dish. However, when I tried some of my friend's breakfast potatoes, they were unassumingly burning hot inside, which caused me to burn the roof of my mouth. The outside wasn't too hot so it was hard to know. I wish the waiter had given us a slight heads up before we dug in. This is the reason I'm docking the first star. I'm docking a second star because of the really long wait time. It is similar to Plow in terms of wait but I don't think the food itself is as good, but that's just a personal opinion. I wish they had a Yelp waitlist option. Overall would recommend trying the place but not sure how often/when I'd come back.

Jessica Y.

Yelp
I came here on a weeday for lunch with a friend so I can't attest to how crowded it can get. I managed to find a parking spot a couple blocks away. This spot is a little small so might be a wait for large parties. The bartender was super friendly and made me a pumpkin espresso martini. i LOVE espresso martinis and this one was delicious. He used real pumpkin puree! I ordered the morning bowl and my friend got the Swedish Society Pancakes. I did enjoy my bowl. it was very filling and had great portions of everything. I did try some of my friend's pancakes. I thought it was okay. The swedish pancaces were a good thickness but I feel like it lacked flavor on it's own. It's a good thing they came with two different dipping sauces.

Yelp
Wooden spoon had been bookmarked for a a while and I finally came in on a random day in the middle of the week while running errands. I felt like sitting at the bar that day, so sat at the bar. Ordered an oat milk latte, salmon scramble & biscuit. The salmon scramble was amazing. Soft scrambled eggs with ample amounts of salmon, I swapped out arugula for mixed greens & asked for extra dill sauce (for the potatoes). My biscuit was warm and buttery, a little crunchy on the outside and warm and soft on the inside. This is such a cute & cozy lunch spot. I imagine it's packed on weekends. I'll definitely be back.

Iris H.

Yelp
Good good breakfast. Healthy and yummy. The MORNING BOWL has really good flavor with the pistachio pesto, cashew crema, tomatillo salsa. I added fried chicken, it doesn't taste oily. The produce was simply prepared and tasted very fresh.

Sylvia Y.

Yelp
Great, low key brunch spot! Wooden Spoon has a modern bistro design that felt comfortable and unpretentious. They don't take reservations, but I arrived around 11:15 AM on a Sunday and there wasn't a wait. I got the Little Spoon, the Swedish Society Pancakes, as well as their grapefruit juice. I love that the grapefruit juice is made fresh using their in-house juicer. I really enjoyed the pancakes, which weren't the typical American pancakes. They were more like thicker crepes. The lingonberry jam and lemon curd weren't too sweet, and were actually a little bit on the tart side and matched perfectly with the pancakes. The Little Spoon had the perfect portioning. My scrambled eggs were on point, and the potatoes were crispy. Staff were friendly and efficient. The only slight downsides: it got a bit loud in there with everyone talking, and we couldn't really linger/continue our conversation after our lunch since we were told there was a line forming outside. Overall, I enjoyed my brunch at Wooden Spoon and would recommend this spot!

Jinny K.

Yelp
OMG, went here with a friend for brunch, and even on a weekday, the place was packed with satisfied customers! After tasting the food, I totally get why this spot is so hyped! We shared the Chinese Chicken Salad and the Market St. Benedict, and both were absolutely perfect! I can't emphasize enough how light and flavorful these dishes were--they were cooked to perfection! Don't believe me? Check out the video of the poached egg I attached with this post. Despite the generous portions, we finished both plates because the food was so light. It wasn't overpowering, salty, or greasy at all! The salad was a standout too--it was so unique, and I had a blast tasting the different flavors in the dish. A shoutout to our waiter as well--he was professional and genuinely compassionate, offering great recommendations and checking in on us regularly. I highly recommend this place! It's got the most perfect brunch vibes, and I can't wait to come back!

Yelp
Super cute restaurant right off Market St. Love the vibes and people working here. Got the Benedict for brunch this weekend and it was fantastic, egg was cooked perfect, crispy potatoes, fruit and side salad. It was light and delicious but perfectly portioned. We also split the Swedish pancakes for the table. Wow, the lingonberry jam was delish! I wasn't the biggest fan of the lemon curd also on the side, but it was a hit with my friends. Highly recommend this spot when you're in the area!

Senara F.

Yelp
We ordered: - Swedish Society Pancakes - Heirloom Tomato B.L.T - 1 Side order of Chicken Apple Sausage - 2 Vanilla Lattes One of my good friends took me out for brunch here and I'm forever grateful for that because wow was this an experience! Our server Chaz (Charles) was everything we could imagine as far as a great person to represent such a wonderful business. Chaz welcomed us and recommended a perfect bite to eat for my appetite at the moment as I was very unsure. He also served us an amazing cup of Vanilla Lattes. We thank you so much Chaz for making our visit here as first timers AMAZING! I hope this message reaches you well! We truly appreciate you! The Swedish Pancakes were definitely a 10/10! The lemon curd and the lingonberry jam with the delicious tart pancakes almost melts in your mouth. I loved that the pancake wasn't too thin either, other places wouldn't be as thick and tart as these. I would definitely recommend ordering these! The B.L.T was AMAZING, a solid 9/10! The garlic aioli with the ciabatta bread brought so much power house flavor which paired so well with the juicy and perfect cut of tomato and thick bacon! Thank you to Charles for recommending this! So yummy and so refreshing, it was the perfect meal after a nice stroll near the waters. The sandwich did come a hefty amount of Herbs De Provence chips that complimented the sandwich very well. Can definitely taste the seasonings as well, so good! Chicken apple sausage Ofcourse was delicious as well, 8/10. Wasn't dry at all, had great flavor and filling. Everything we ordered was the perfect combination to satisfy our cravings after a long walk! Vanilla Latte was the perfect touch to a great meal. Almost like a cozy Sunday afternoon. When you walk in there is a bar to the right with plenty of seating. The inside had a great vibe as it had plenty of seats, plants and wood decorations hung on the wall. The dim lighting inside with the bright light from outside shining in was such a beautiful setting for a great day for brunch and dining in. The bathroom was also fairly clean as well. Parking can be tricky as it is on a busy street off of market but honestly, it's worth it. Depending on the time you come the parking right out front requests to pay between certain times. Our overall experience was definitely a 10/10! We would definitely come back to try every thing on this menu. Again to our server Chaz (Charles) thank you again for topping off our brunch experience! You've made our day and look forward to plenty more visits. Cheers and thank you Wooden Spoon!

Naina S.

Yelp
To start off, I'm not really a brunch girlie BUT Wooden Spoon knocked it out of the park. They don't do reservations but I put our names down for a group of 3 and we were seated at a bar side by side in about ~30 minutes (with a cool view of the chefs doing their thing in the kitchen too). It was Presidents' Day as well so it was probably busy cause it was a day off and a long weekend for people but I suspect the weekends would be similar. We ordered some black & iced coffee for drinks, albeit these were okay according to my friends so would maybe skip them and get your coffee elsewhere. It did come with a really cute mini milk bottle though hehe. For food, we each got the breakfast panini, the house hash, and the fried chicken sandwich (subbed the arugula salad with the side of potatoes, HIGHLY recommend this they were amazing). All three entrees were a hit. The breads for both the panini and the sandwich were so delicious and complimented the meal perfectly. We got the Swedish society pancakes to split between the 3 of us and they were soooo good as well, definitely recommend. Overall, a well worth brunch spot!

Shikha S.

Yelp
Delicious and cozy! Expect to wait on any weekend morning bc it's walk in only, but it's worth it. For vegans, they offer a vegan Just Egg scramble / breakfast plate (the Little Spoon is what I got!) with potatoes friend to perfection and toast. Our group also got the French Toast to share, and it was so fluffy and light - would definitely recommend. Service is great, all the staff is super friendly and welcoming. The interior has a warm cafe feel with wooden spoons all over the walls. A fave in this neighborhood for a social brunch spot!

Cynthia G.

Yelp
Cute place with great food. We popped in for a quick bite while waiting on an event to start at the Swedish Hall. Their service was great and the food was delicious. Can't get over the aged balsamic vinegar on the toast! (Chefs kiss) Mimosas were also delish!

Lisa N.

Yelp
Home-y vibes. Decent sized portions that will have you leave satisfied. Not too expensive. What my friends and I ordered: -- avocado toast -- so beautiful and light -- granola crunch french toast (huge portions) -- market st. benedict -- eggs cooked perfectly and still runny. Paired with potatoes with dipping sauce. Whatever the sauce is, I'm obsessed. -- pear marg -- smokey lemon drop -- well made crafted cocktail -- iced coffee Service was very kind and attentive. I need to come back for the soft scramble egg next time!

Sara W.

Yelp
Food: 5/5 Ambiance: 4/5 Service: 4.5/5 Came here for lunch on a Saturday and only had to wait about 15 minutes to be seated. The restaurant was very crowded and loud which made it difficult to have a conversation. But the staff were friendly and efficient. We ordered the fried chicken sandwich and Swedish pancakes. The bun on the chicken sandwich was focaccia, which was absolutely delicious. The chicken itself was crispy on the outside yet juicy and flavorful on the inside. The Swedish pancakes were light and tasty especially with the lemon curd and lingonberry jam. Would definitely come back and try more items on the menu

Natasha R.

Yelp
Our servers here were super sweet and helpful regarding the city! I got the crepes which tasted great but were a little overpriced in my opinions. However everyone in our party did enjoy the experience!

Saad B.

Yelp
If you're looking for the ultimate brunch spot, Wooden Spoon is it! My friend and I went on a Saturday morning and loved it. She ordered the soft scramble with smoked salmon, which was delicious. I had the Big Spoon with pancakes, eggs, bacon, and the most amazing crispy potatoes. The service is great and super quick, though there's usually a 30-minute wait on weekends. Totally worth it! Perfect place to catch up with friends over a fantastic meal.

Ashleigh S.

Yelp
Ok I want to give this place 5 stars for my meal alone, but my partner did not like his much and I thought the breakfast drink was ok. So I feel obliged to tone down my review, but honestly I think this place was great and want to try more of their menu. Ok, so went at 11ish on a Sunday and knew it was going to be busy so we added our name to the list hanging outside. We got really lucky because apparently there weren't many 2-people parties in front of us, so we were seated in 5 minutes. The whole reason I wanted to check out the Wooden Spoon was because of their huevos divorciados. Huevos rancheros is one of my favorite breakfast dishes and I was so intrigued by two different sauces! Por qué no los dos, right? Oh it was magical. I loved both sauces. The darker red rancheros sauce has more of my heart, but honestly the verde with a little avocado slapped. And I liked the vegan chorizo without thinking anything about it except this is tasty. Loved this meal. 10/10. It will be very hard to come back and NOT order this. I also ordered the pumpkin spice espresso martini because I'm really feeling the pumpkin this year. This drink was ok. It tasted like coffee with some cinnamon. I would have preferred a traditional espresso martini, but oh well. It was worth a try for ~fall vibes~. Ok so the second dish is the house hash and this wasn't as good as expected. I found the flavors pretty bland honestly. The meat (short rib I think) didn't taste like anything other than meat. Which if that's your thing, this could be the dish for you. And the potatoes and carrots and everything just tasted like it was steamed with a little salt and pepper and that's about it. So, overall not our favorites, especially not for breakfast. Had a great time. Server was lovely. The sun was shining and this whole street was lovely to stroll before and after brunch at the Wooden Spoon. A great Sunday in the city!

Yelp
My partner and I came in around 11 on a weekday , as we were craving brunch . We were welcome rather quick by the bartender . They offer bar seating with a communal seating in the entrance/bar area , they also have a dinning area as well . We jumped on bar , got a Bloody Mary and a breakfast panini, partner had the fried chicken and biscuits . Mary was yummy , I liked the garden of veggies and nice balance of Mary to vodka ratio . Panini was flavorful . Service is mid , as it can be slow, also saw a table walk away because of this. Servers can be a bit blunt . I Recommend to sit at the bar . Overall I will come back for panini and Mary.

Yelp
Been hearing rave reviews from friends that have been here and finally got a chance to come by and have brunch with a friend who was flying out that afternoon. First -- the decor is so nice and cute and I love that the tables and seats were spread out so there was room to walk when it got crowded. Service was excellent. Our server was really concerned about my friend making her flight and getting to the airport so he made sure to check in with us on if we had enough time. I ended up getting the Market St. Benedict and a cup of tea. The Benedict was the perfect portion and the egg oozed when you cut into it. Definitely interested in going back and trying some of the other items on the menu. It's perfect for friends that are vegetarian or gluten free because there are plenty of choices on the menu (and they're all labeled).

Yelp
Only one of the best brunch places in town! Wooden Spoon is homey, spacious, and good for the money. I went on a Sunday in a party of two. They don't take reservations online, so you have to put your name down when you get there. The wait was about 10-15 minutes and was totally worth it. Got the breakfast platter called 'The Big Spoon' while my friend got an egg and meat based platter. I enjoyed having The Big Spoon, it was a lot of food and flavour - totally worth the money. It's a little on the steep side for the price, but it keeps you well fed (& happy) for a while! My friend quite liked his meal too, but it wasn't enough in terms of the quantity. He also got a coffee - you can get it refilled as many times as you want and it's quite good. I got the iced coffee but I wasn't impressed as it was too bitter and the sugar didn't help. The service was fast, and the people were friendly. The only thing I didn't appreciate was the fact that I'm vegetarian and had specifically asked for the bacon to be removed from my breakfast platter but they skipped doing so. Overall - would 10/10 recommend and would go back for more. Cozy, well done, and good food for sure!

Yelp
Perfect place for a casual Sunday brunch! We got lucky, found street parking quickly and was able to get seated right away. Service was on point from the friendly greeter to our attentive waitress. The granola crunch french toast was perfect with thick slices of bread, great crunch with toasted nuts, and not overly sweet. Paired it with the freshly squeezed grapefruit juice. The fried chicken with biscuits also had a nice crisp to them. Everyone seemed to be enjoying their day today! Great vibe! Will definitely be back to this cute brunch spot soon!

Yelp
Came here for the first time today. We were seated at the bar area and the bartender was extremely friendly and helpful with the menu, he really made the experience much more enjoyable. The huevos divorciados were AMAZING. The salsa was obviously made in house and it was so tasty and refreshing. I am not vegan, but the vegan chorizo was really good and tasty. I also tried the banana pecan pancakes which were also great, they were a bit dense but delicious.

Yelp
I scoured SF for a brunch spot, and Wooden Spoon came out on top after looking at the menu and pictures! It really did not disappoint! We went at 11am on a Saturday, and waited about 15 min for a two person table. The whole menu looks delicious and we had a hard time choosing one sweet and one savory dish to split! We ended up on the banana praline pancakes and house hash dishes. There was an insane amount of fluffy pancake for $16, and the house hash was so delicious too!! I think for a nice SF brunch spot like this, the prices are really good. There's ample seating inside and the waiters are super sweet too, can't wait to come back to try the Swedish pancakes!

Yelp
Wooden spoon is where my partner and I will always have our brunch dates knowing we will have good food, fast and kind service and we love watching the kitchen cook at the bar top seats. I recommend either going on a weekday or early on the weekends because they don't take reservations but definitely worth the wait!

Yelp
A very cute brunch spot that's perfect for catching up with friends! They have plenty of seating to accommodate the rush hours over the weekends, but still plan ahead to ensure you don't wait too long. I was surprised by how amazing the house hash was. It's definitely an elevated version of other hash dishes-- perfect balance of savory, and whatever sauce they used on it was DELICIOUS. My friend got the Big Spoon and it really came with a lot & perfect if you're coming with an appetite! I also got their orange juice which was super refreshing too.

Yelp
A cute choice for brunch, inside is two distinct rooms with many counter top seats. They offer a few of vegetarian and vegan options (soyrizo, justeggs, and soy-sausage), and they have soy milk and oat milk. The kitchen is run by chef August Schuchman. It is not the best choice for a group brunch, due to the limited amount of tables.

Yelp
I loved this spot! The menu had so many options that looked delicious. I chose the Soft Scrambled Eggs which had crab and bacon in them. So impressed with the environment, the variety of options, and the speed of getting groups turned through! The one thing I would NOT recommend was the nitro cold brew!! It tasted like a hybrid of iced coffee and soda water (very fizzy)... not a smooth nitro cold brew. The waiter was so kind and helpful - actually intuitively could tell it was not my favorite drink and swapped it for a drip coffee which I so appreciated. 10/10 service, food, and spot for a brunch!

Yelp
Wooden Spoon was one of the restaurants open on New Year's Day for brunch with my family before I embarked on my trip, so we gathered there and had a pretty good brunch. There were seven of us, four adults and three children and we ordered five dishes and shared with the kids. Two of us ordered The Big Spoon and two ordered the House Hash and we ordered the Soft Scrambled Eggs with Salmon for the table. We more or less ate from all the plates in order to try everything family style. The Big Spoon came with two pancakes as well as a slice of toast, two strips of bacon, two eggs, a small fruit cup, and a mound of potatoes that looked really dark but were delicious. The House Hash came with a sunny side up egg, short ribs (in cubes, not chopped up), pickled veggies, potatoes, spinach, and a mustard cream. Everything was pretty good, but not stand-out good; it's what would be expected at any breakfast place. The pancakes weren't as fluffy and light as I would've liked, but the kids ate them and were happy. The potatoes, even though they looked exceptionally dark when they came to the table, were good; they were panfried with some herbs and, I think, some citrus. The baby and one child really liked the salmon in the soft scrambled eggs and I enjoyed the nicely dressed arugula that came with that dish. All in all, everything was good but rather overpriced (coffee was $5 a cup and no refills were offered!). Just have to suck it up and figure it was the price we had to pay for a restaurant to be open on a major holiday! Just want to note that while the waitperson who checked us in and did part of the serving for our table was really nice, friendly, and accommodating, the other waitperson (baseball cap, pigtail) was rather condescending, rude, and smug; I wouldn't want to be waited on by that second person again. Happy New Year, all... even to that Scrooge!

Yelp
You can't go wrong with breakfast here. We had the huevos divorciados which can definitely feed two people. Eggs cooked perfectly and their vegan chorizo tasted like the real thing. Don't forget to add on a spritz! Clean, bright and simple. Everyone was friendly and it was bustling even on a random weekday.

Yelp
Date of Interaction: 2024-02-19 TL;DR: - Actual Rating: 4.3/5 - Rounded Rating: 4/5 - A nice cozy brunch place with tasty fares; just don't get the dutch baby. Food: - Granola French Toast (4.5/5): This was quite tasty with a nice fluffy texture and wasn't overly sweet; I really enjoyed this. - Dutch Baby (2.5/5): My friend ordered this and I didn't even taste it, but I had to call this out because it was such a small portion. For a Dutch baby at this price point one would expect like a 10" skillet, but this thing came in a small 6" skillet max; this was like a Dutch 1st trimester. While he said it tasted good, it's definitely not worth the $16 we paid for it. Ambiance: - Space (5/5): It's definitely a bit of a quirky seating arrangement inside, but I appreciated the historic feel of the interior. - Noise (5/5): No loud or obnoxious music--just the sound of cooking, activity, and lively conversations. Service: - Attentiveness & Relatability (5/5): The waiter was very attentive to our needs. - Wait (4/5): Our party of 4 was seated promptly. Wait for the food was within expectation.

Yelp
It was a bit hard to spot the restaurant. However, if you are looking for the crowd outside, then you will find it easily. Street parking is difficult, but it's near muni and a few blocks away from Bart. The restaurant has great staff and good customer service. Started from waiting in line to finishing the food, i feel like the staff cares and checks in often with the customer. I got a tuna melt. Everything was good, and you can get it elsewhere. However, the key driver of making this one stand out is the sauce. It was creamy with a nice little kick of heat to it. I enjoyed it a lot.

Yelp
Went to Wooden Spoon the same morning as Bay to Breakers(the carbo loading was not for the race though). For this review I am only reviewing what I ordered. I got the Granola Crunch French toast for 17 dollars. The bread was brioche but not too thick/heavy(a good thing since a usual concern with brioche French toasts for me is its richness) and it had a vanilla bean whipped cream, maple syrup, raspberries, and granola. The whipped cream was a little thick but delicious, and I love whenever fruit is added to pancakes! The only thing that left me disappointed was that the granola had a harder, stickier texture rather than a crunchy texture as advertised. The ambiance was also lively, but the noise level made it hard to hear my friends at certain times. However, I will say the service was great, and our waiter made it a pleasant experience! Overall, I am being picky as brunch is my favorite meal of the day and SF had lots of great brunch options, so I'd have to give this a 4/5 stars due to the granola texture.

Yelp
Service was borderline rude. Missed every basic checkpoint a server and team should have down. I feel conflicted writing this because the food here is usually incredible, and I know the chefs and cooks are talented. However, today's experience was disappointing and not up to their usual standard. The service was noticeably lacking--we waited over 10 minutes after being seated without being offered water, and when we finally flagged down a waiter, he seemed more interested in chatting with the chef than helping us. Even after placing our order, we still had to ask for water, which seems like a basic expectation, especially after waiting outside for 40 minutes for a table. The seating was so cramped that I was elbowed twice by people on either side, which made the experience uncomfortable. I understand the need to maximize space, but it felt excessive. Additionally, I watched our plates sit under a hot plate for 10 minutes while they waited for my side of bacon, which affected the quality of the meal. When we finally managed to get the check, it was clear that the overall experience left both of us, even my usually positive date, feeling disheartened. It's frustrating because I know this place is capable of so much better.

Yelp
3.5 stars rounded up to 4 Wooden Spoon is a solid brunch spot, but not amazing. Nice interior, very trendy SF. We ordered the soft scrambled egg and breakfast panini. Both looked great, but the flavor fell just short of its looks. Would come again with a group of friends for the ambiance though!
