The 37 Best Restaurants in St. Louis, Missouri

"This small neighborhood steakhouse, opened by veteran restaurateur Matt McGuire, has become the most difficult reservation to acquire since opening over a year ago, thanks to its astounding consistency in service and confidence in the kitchen. You might think you peaked with the shrimp cocktail and Caesar salad, but there’s a lot more pleasure to be found in the mid-rare New York strip, crisp haricot verts, Dauphinoise potatoes slick with rich butter, and onion rings. A head-turning ice cream sundae is the most popular of the three desserts on offer, but don’t pass on the creme brulee or a slice of the wedding cake (so super sexy in its almond-scented minimalism), ideally paired with a cup of coffee or an espresso martini." - Holly Fann, Joel Crespo

This is truly a hidden gem. Parking is easy and the building is small and unassuming. All the food is delicious and the cocktails are well-made. I was surprised to even see giardiniera on the menu. The waiter was awesome and chatted with us throughout the night. I will definitely be back!

The star qualities here are truly the ambiance and the bread service. Whipped butter with olive oil, salt and pepper with crunchy toasted bread! I ascended. Dim lighting, glowing bar, and paper you can draw on = upscale but welcoming. Next favorite would be the house made pasta in a spicy vodka sauce! Wow! The crab cake was outshined by the sauce it was served in. That sauce is so so good, but it drowns out the crab in the crab cake. Finally the Caesar salad and the steak frites were both yummy, but nothing special. I did have crazy heart burn the next day, but when you luxuriate in this many fats and acids, that’s the name of the game. Overall, i’d highly recommend. It just feels like that perfect date night out.

Absolutely stunning in every way. Service was elegant and thorough, but not suffocating. Food was truly spectacular. We had the halibut, aged NY strip special, mashed potatoes, onion rings, and of course an ice cream sundae. The space is gorgeous, every detail was purposeful. Thank you to Ricky for taking such wonderful care of us. This is a truly special place!

I went to Wrights for my birthday and had a great time. The steak frites is great. The onion rings are a must order and so is the Tavern Sundae!

Google
A wonderful dinner with impeccable service and delicious food in an intimate setting. We loved the oysters and baked crab cake to start. Fries were out of this world and the crust on the roasted chicken entree was the highlight of our meal. Creme Brûlée to finish had a similar crust and we cannot recommend it enough. Our second visit was even better than the first. Amazing oysters again, perfectly cooked steak and salmon. You can’t go wrong with anything here.

Google
Overall great experience. Service was fantastic, cocktails were great! Ambiance is romantic and intimate, although seating was tight and mildly uncomfortable. Bread course was delicious sourdough with a fantastic whipped butter and olive oil. For the appetizers: Crabcake was excellent, great quality although the sauce was a bit salty. Overall a great dish. Scallop special was amazing, the butternut squash accompaniment was so good it nearly overshadowed the scallops. Perfection. Cesar salad was overly salted. Entrees:. NY strip had an amazing crust and was perfectly cooked. Swardfish was unfortunately a bit overdone, and overall nothing remarkable. The fries were fantastic! We'll definitely be back to sample more of the menu.

Google
What a phenomenal experience. Well worth the wait after making the reservation. The Filet Mignon was tender and juicy, the Potato Crusted Halibut was moist on a bed of fresh green beans that still had a bit of a crunch so you knew they were fresh. We had the shrimp scampi (with toasted bread) once you finish the shrimp you can soak up all the juice. I love an Old Fashioned. The old fashioned was so good, I actually ordered a 2nd which is something I only do at the Vandy. Ask to be in Natalie's section. She was attentive, knowledgeable on all specials and ingredients and was a natural at conversation. This will definitely become a 2x year treat.

Google
Had a phenomenal time coupled with fantastic service and delicious food. Chris, our server, was attentive, energetic and charismatic! Anytime I go back, I would be upset if he didn’t attend to us. We also admired the hats that the chefs wore and luckily we were able to purchase to purchase them! 5 stars all around

Yelp
I cannot rant and rave enough about Wright's. It is probably my favorite restaurant in St. Louis... If you can snag a reservation! They open up about a month in advance. Reserve it through Resy, keep your eyes open. But it is definitely worth it. It's a hidden little spot. When you are walking down, Wydown, you will miss it if you blink! And keep in mind it is street parking only. So on the weekends and busy dinner times... Allow extra time to find a spot. Everything on the menu is better than the next. Service is impeccable. Their martini is to die for. I could eat here every night for the rest of my life and be totally satisfied. It is a very tiny place, that's why it's so hard to get into. It's a dark and almost secretive vibe. But not too quiet. Still very upbeat. Almost speakeasy-like. It's a can't miss spot in STL. 10/10.

Yelp
Service was great, apps were great, ambiance was great. Beer was cold, cocktails well made as usual. Not a good look for a $70 steak that was ordered medium. Really bummed it wasn't fixed, and then again when boxing it To go, no one said a word. Would have been better off at Applebees tonight. A big fan of wright's but this was a major bummer.

Yelp
As much as I wanted to love this place, I fear that it's overhyped. With how much recognition this restaurant has garnered as well as how difficult it is to land a reservation, I was expecting to have one of the best meals of my life. Wright's did not meet that standard. Highlights of the meal included their crab cake, which I found myself liking more and more with every bite I took. The burger quickly became one of my favorites in the city. Such rich flavor in the beef but a little too bread-heavy. Their ice cream sundae was just pure, unadulterated indulgence. Will be dreaming of it for days to come. While by no means was my experience at Wright's bad, there was just nothing truly spectacular about it. There's no creativity in any of their dishes. Everything we ate was of exceptional quality, but none of the flavors blew our minds. Favorite dishes: Burger, crab cake, ice cream sundae

Yelp
Possibly the best meal I've had in STL. Ambiance, service, food, drink all top notch. Went there for an early Valentines Dinner. Reservations are so tough to come by. The only time we could get was 1030pm which I didn't even think was a thing, but they didn't seat us a second before 1030. Worth the wait and late slot. Must try place for any STL foodie.

Yelp
Did you know you can book a Friday night 10:30pm reservation here?! I found out after driving 5+ hours from out of town. We met our friend here who RAVES about this place, and for good reason! I wish I remembered our server's name - he was really good. Kind, patient, actually talked to us a bit. Our food was really delicious. The bread with the olive oil and the butter....bye. I'm done. Just give me a vat of that and I'll be just fine. It was so dang good. We shared a large crab cake that was the best I've ever had. My dinner mates had some oysters that they enjoyed. I ordered a spicy vodka sauce pasta dish. It was really good, but they weren't kidding about the spice. You've been warned! ;) The wine (red blend) was lovely and I could have easily had another if I wasn't driving. We shut the place down and left with very full bellies. I really liked the vibe here. Kind of a speakeasy, easy to miss if you're not looking for it. Dark and moody with great food. That's a winning combo!

Yelp
Amazing experience! It was well worth the wait when we made our reservation. Food was incredible, from scallops to steak, everything tasted great. Secondly the cocktails were great as well. Maybe the best espresso martini I ever had. Our waiter was personable and quick to make sure we had everything we needed. Such a cozy restaurant, it is truly a great experience for those looking for a special occasion.

Yelp
Once you can get a reservation here, it is incredible. The waiters are so attentive and walk you through everything. The drinks are amazing and seem to change based on the three times I've been there which is fun! The french dip is absolutely incredible as well as the spicy pasta. Only small con- this place is small and the tables are tight! But other than that- absolutely amazing and would recommend to anyone.

Yelp
I was excited when my friend wanted her birthday dinner at Wright's Tavern. From the food menu, we ordered French Dip, Potato-crusted Halibut, and Ribeye. From the dessert menu, we got their Tavern Hot fudge sundae, Wedding Cake, and crème brulee. That was the whole dessert menu. Everything we ate was delicious! Service was excellent and attentive! This place gets packed quickly, so I highly recommend making a reservation. Street parking!

Yelp
I have no idea why this place gets so many five-star reviews. Our experience was disappointing from start to finish. The food arrived cold, our steaks were cooked incorrectly, and the seating was uncomfortable - don't even ask about the chairs. For a restaurant that charges $50+ per plate and markets itself as upscale dining, it completely missed the mark. Service was slowish. Our waitress was polite but barely checked in. I ordered the tavern salad (essentially a Greek salad), but the ingredient proportions were way off. We both got the steak frites, which turned out to be mostly fries with a small steak topped with tavern butter. The steak was so cold the butter didn't even melt--seriously. No inquiry from staff to see if we enjoyed our meal which is saying something. She also suggested swapping one order of fries for onion rings--huge mistake. They were awful, think Buffalo Wild Wings but worse. The best part of the meal? The drinks and the fries. That's it. For the price, you'd be much better off at LongHorn or even Capital Grille. Definitely not worth the hype.

Yelp
My fiancé and I FINALLY got a reservation here!! It is a small restaurant with maybe 10 tables so it is a bit tight inside. The service was great and our waiter was awesome! We skipped the drinks but they looked amazing. We ordered crab cakes, halibut, French dip, and Mac n cheese to share. All phenomenal! The portions are huge and can easily be split into two meals. We had no room left for dessert but we look forward to coming back to try that and drinks and other entrees.

Yelp
We had an early Valentine's Day dinner here last night. The ambiance is amazing despite it being very small. The service was the best I've had in along time! All of the servers were very friendly and funny and they greeted us and brought water right away. We ordered the Caesar salad, crab cake, and filet with pommes frites. The sourdough bread with whipped butter and olive oil was amazing! Everything you want bread to be- crispy on the outside and soft and fluffy on the inside. They do not skimp on the butter either. The Caesar salad was mixed well and full of Parmesan cheese. I really enjoyed it. I had the crab cake as my meal and it was definitely one of the best crab cakes I've ever had and was filled with lump crab. My fiancé got the filet and it was probably the best filet I've ever had. It was perfectly cooked and crispy on the outside and the sauce on top was amazing!! The pommes frites were my least favorite part of the meal. They were very average despite being served piping hot, but that's okay. For dessert, we got the ice cream sundae and it was great! So fun and whimsical for such a nice restaurant. We also really liked how they gave you pencils to write on the paper on the tables. We drew portraits of each other lol. Overall, Wright's is intimate and fancy, but still very approachable.

Yelp
The only thing "bad" about this place is how hard it is to get in. We have an alert set for cancellations and we go whenever we get the notice. Love the quiet swanky ambiance. The food is always good no matter what you order. We brought our own wine... we feel it's a little crazy to have to pay a cork fee per bottle ($45), but I understand the why. Didn't really deter us from bringing our own couple bottles. Tonight we loved the new menu. We started with the Cesar salad, crab-cake (so good) and the scallops special. Unfortunately the scallops were undercooked and not up to their usual standards. But the whipped butternut squash and pumpkin seeds were delicious. With the new menu, all four of us had the swordfish. It was incredible. Wow. The flavors mixed together with the orzo, broccolini, nuts and broth and perfectly cooked swordfish.... Oh. My. Goodness. It's my new favorite entree here. I unfortunately did not take photos because the dim lighting would not do it any justice... but so worth ordering.

Yelp
Finally nabbed a reservation at Wright's and we were so excited to try it! Overall the food was excellent and the service was top-notch. Tried: Steak Medallion, macaroni au gratin, burger with fries Loved: the macaroni au gratin and burger flavor were highlights for us. The bread, as simple as it may sound, with the oil and butter was also a standout - the simple touch of sea salt in the middle of the butter and oil added a lot of flavor to the bread plate. Very very good. Liked: the atmosphere is a little cramped for us, but it is a small place and you get to watch all the food come out Disliked: overall the meat wasn't cooked to our temperature for both the steak (was medium well and requested medium) and burger (was medium rare and requested medium well) which was disappointing because otherwise we had a great experience and plan to come back

Yelp
Need to update again because Wright's Tavern simply does not miss. There is something about that french dip. It has me in a chokehold. I can't help but order it every time. And, every time it gets better--which I did not think was possible. Everybody knows the food at Wright's is great. The macaroni, onion rings, burger, steak, shrimp scampi. Basically, every single menu item. So, I do not want to Belabor that point. I do, however, want to indulge you in the magic that Wright's is beyond their food. Wright's, for me, feels like home. The meticulousness is magnificent. The art work is elegant, yet accessible. The paper and pencils on the tables makes it feel just a bit whimsical, while still feeling elegant. Yet, you feel welcome no matter your background, outfit, status, etc. it just feels like anyone can walk in and be exactly who is supposed to be there. Every server shows genuine interest in serving you. Always willing to chop it up, they are dressed to the nines, but remain beautifully folksy. It's intimate. But, also a place you can take the family. Wright's is an enigma. Artistically balancing upscale with casual, high end with affordable, intimate with friendly, professional with whimsy. Maybe none of this makes sense. I may just be rambling. But, beyond the generous portions of a simplified--yet perfected--traditional steakhouse menu is a cozy space we all can call home, even if just for the evening. St. Louis is blessed to have a spot as special as Wright's. Can't wait to get back for another french dip... hopefully sooner than later!

Yelp
This restaurant is a requirement. From Louie on Demun's owner Matt Maguire with executive chef Cary McDowell (has worked at Daniel in NYC... wow) 7624 Wydown Blvd. Clayton, Mo in the former Fratellini space. Highly recommend a reservation. Named for Henry Wright, the architect who designed the World's Fair Pavilion in #forestpark It's dark, sexy & seductive. A small spot. As always, let's turn this steakhouse into a seafood spot. Come along. Cocktails Wright's Old Fashioned & Martini & Side Car are musts! Shrimp Scampi? YES! Garlic Bread, Chilies, Parsley the Bibb Salad is Fresh, Crisp, Light & Refreshing Get the Fries! Wow I could eat here daily.

Yelp
Wright's Tavern made me feel like I was in an elegant cozy bar in New York. The service was fantastic. I was so glad we were able to get a last minute reservation due to someone else canceling. Their Caesar salad is probably the best I've ever had. I loved the seasoned butter on the steak. I also got the martini with a lemon twist (since I'm not a fan of olives) and it was amazing!

Yelp
I've been to Wrights probably 12 times. I have never had anything but exceptional service, food, and experience. Last week I came in with my friend and we had an excellent meal. I've had everything from shrimp scampi, my favorite, to the pasta, crabcake, halibut, wedge salad, Dauphinoise potatoes, salmon, roasted chicken, Sundae, wedding cake; and my other favorite the creme brûlée. It is still very hard to get reservations, but if you can, do, you won't be disappointed. We had CK last week she was awesome and took very good care of us.

Yelp
Overall: top notch, intimate dining experience that you won't want to miss! A near Michelin-star experience! Food: 5/5 Cocktail was nicely balanced, bubbly, herby, sweet and fruity Bread was in par with top tier steakhouses. Olive oil was pungent and vibrant. Flakey salt was nice attention to detail. The crab cake was the best one I've ever had. Period. Crab flavor forward, good moistness and crust. Chicken was tender and deboned. Crispy skin was a great touch. The jus was too salty for my liking, but the chicken still paired nicely with the other sauces from my friends. Dessert sundae was decadent and a huge portion for three to share! Ambiance: 5/5 great mood lighting. Nice interior decor touches. Not too crowded or noisy. Service: 6/5 our server was incredibly nice and knowledgeable. She came back just the right number of times. Staff were incredibly attentive and well-trained.

Yelp
This is the second time we've been to Wright's Tavern for a double date and it has never been a let down. The filet with frites is to die for, with the exceptional cook on the steak, flavor of the sauce, and sauce selections for the fries this is a for sure win! I had the pink lady drink along with Wedding Cake for dessert. Chris was our waiter and he was superb! Great atmosphere with low lighting. Small place, but wonderful place for a date!

Yelp
Located at the center of Clayton, Wright's Tavern is a frequently visited spot for celebrations and gatherings. Making a reservation is a must in order to secure a table. Street parking is tricky. I visited Wright's Tavern on a Thursday evening. The restaurant is completely packed, though the cozy ambience and background music are lovely. Service is top-notch. Our server frequently came over to refill our water, and check if there are anything we need. As far as food, my favorites are 1) shrimp scampi and the 2) halibuts. For the shrimp scampi, the jumbo shrimp was cooked with a great garlic spicy sauce. Two pieces of bread came with that for dipping. Love the halibut as well -- The fish is perfectly cooked. It is light and flaky, with crunchy potato crisp on top. Well done! Two other items we ordered are average: 1) Roasted chicken: The sauce is overly salty, though the protein is prepared perfectly. 2) Cream brulee Regardless of some misses, Wright Tavern is still a nice spot to capture some fond memories with loved ones.

Yelp
Amazing food beautiful ambiance .. Also Richard's service was amazing...so grateful we got squeezed in at 5pm opening after standing in weather a long time outside... delicious.. we will be back! Best crab cake ever.. Halibut was a work of art‍.. Things to work on -tho I love prompt service.. it needs to be dialed in on the tag team service a bit.. I felt like we had our main waiter..,then a line of soldiers in line staring at us behind.. I'm already a tight place. Richard naturally paced wonderfully on his own.. I am a slow eater and I was just trying to eat the last of my food and have amazing convo w my love.. I got asked probably 8 times could my plate be taken.. that's kinda irritating considering we were let in at 5pm and this was all between 5:15-545... we also had the table till 6:30 and still were kind enough to pay and leave before 6... I get insuring good service but you all (not my waiter) made us feel hurried for a very expensive (and again tasty meal)... it would have been nice to savor it more and our conversation without the constant interruptions for over half our time seated. Overkill, but delicious. This is not Chickfila/McDonalds so don't get into the speed... keep it at bay... cuz pretentiousness can ruin restaurants in stl and reasonable people will be respectful of time seated. We certainly were.. spending $200 in less than an hour is really an extravagant night for us it was just difficult with the constant feeling of being hurried. Took a little away from our experience.. that halibut and ambiance tho.. if you haven't been here you need to.. romantic and delicious.

Yelp
Excellent food, attentive and refined service. Little touches abounded. While there isn't a coat room, they offer to take your coat upon entry and then hang it on the hooks along the wall. Lime for my sparkling water consisted of a whole lime that had been freshly quartered, not just a couple of thin slices. Napkins were refolded and placed on the table whenever a seat was vacated. Plates were cleared immediately, but not until both diners had finished their portions for that course. My steak was swimming in flavor, helped by the garlic & spices butter melting on the top, with a nice char on the outside while medium within. I subbed onion rings for the included fries (both cost the same on the separate sides menu, so not sure if there would have been an upcharge otherwise), which was definitely a win. The rings portion was huge, and the rings themselves were quite crunchy with sweet, tender onion within. The wife's salmon was seared on both sides (she gave me the skin side, not being an eater of flesh herself, which was delicious) with tender, flaky, moist salmon meat in a thick portion. It was served on cherry tomato confit that burst with flavor. The spoon that came with the entrée was used for both ladling that over the salmon if desired or to simply drink the confit sauce. Melted spinach also accompanied this entrée, gaining from the confit mixing with it. Finally, the complimentary bread deserves a shout out. It is a half loaf that apparently is warmed in an oven immediately prior to it being served. the crust is crunchy, while the inside is soft and warm. It comes with a large portion of warm garlic butter that is bowled to hold olive oil and additional spices. Excellent.

Yelp
We had a wonderful dinner at Wright's Tavern! A reservation fell in our lap out of the blue via a friend who couldn't use it....and wow am I glad he thought of us!! Everything from the service, to the drinks to the meal was outstanding! It's a small place, and it was crowded so the noise level was high, but that really didn't bother me. But what did bother me was when we walked in and made the eight or so steps to the hostess who was standing there along with another employee, neither of them said a word of greeting. It wasn't until I told them my name and reservation time, did one of them turn, do something on the computer and led us to our table. I guess I'm just used to be welcomed in when we go to a restaurant for dinner. Other than that, we had a great experience. Looking forward to a return trip!

Yelp
All of the things you've heard are "wright" ;) I came to Wright's Tavern with a friend last minute not knowing what to expect. To start, I ordered the Negroni Bianco & a friend ordered the Wright's infamous Gin Martini which came with the cute sidecar! I loved that they gave you that, it kept the gin nice & cold for when you were ready for your refill! I had the Shrimp Scampi although everyone raves about the Halibut so that will be on my list for next time! This entree came with so much shrimp I had plenty to take home for left overs! The restaurant is quite small & there are designated spots for larger parties but it's definitely tight in there. Also, this restaurant is pretty busy & there is only street parking available so be on the lookout for parking! I hear it's VERY hard to get on the books here so watch out on the 30th or 31st of each month at midnight because that's when they release their reservations for the next month! The more you know!

Yelp
I was so happy to finally score a coveted reservation to Wright's on a Thursday night. The great service started as you walked in the door, we were greeted and sat immediately. I started with an old fashioned which was a great pairing to my meal. The bread and buttered olive oil to start was delicious we ate every bite. I opted for the burger which sounds boring but it was far from that. The white cheddar was such a strong taste in the best way that really elevated a tavern burger. The fries were nice and crispy, served with aioli. My husband got the chicken which was a large portion served with jus. We finished our meal with the instagram worthy ice cream sundae with more toppings than you can possibly consume. Can't wait for our next visit!

Yelp
Impeccable food and service. The staff goes beyond and above, to cater to your every needs. The crème brûlée, is number one in the country as far as I'm concerned. The ambience, is quite comfortable and enjoying.

Yelp
We had a reservation tonight at 9, which I was a little hesitant about just because of its proximity to closing time at 10. It wasn't at all weird, service was excellent! We got two old fashioned/pink lady cocktails each (delicious), scampi (to die for), caesar salad (parm was incredible), spicy vodka pasta and the filet with frites. Everything was exceptional, from the service to the ambiance to the incredible food!! Can't wait to return.

Yelp
Splendid dinner! Simple fare done incredibly well! Halibut was one of the best western prepared fish entrees I've had at this price point, relative bargain for quality. My girlfriend had the steak frites, the fries were good and natural. Their bread (from la brea) is top notch as is the butter. Mac & Cheese was so rich you could have it as a meal! Service is 5 star all around!!! While you wait you also get pencils to draw on the table, this place is awesome!!

Hilary S.

Yelp
I ordered the filet medium rare... I'd order medium next time. We loved our server, Chris and all of his suggestions. I highly recommend getting the crème brûlée and a Manhattan to finish the night. The chef wears a ball cap and comes out to socialize with the wait staff. I found it unprofessional.

Yelp
Absolutely amazing experience. We started off with the crab cake, which ended up being my favorite. For the main course, we did the burger, filet au poivre, and the roast chicken. Everything was cooked perfectly and the sides were great too. The service was attentive and kind. They also have a good selection of cocktails and wine.
google avatar

Erin T.

Yelp
Oh, sweet jeezus. This is the best meal I've had in STL in the last decade. From the ambiance to the cocktails, service, and marrying of flavors, this is THE restaurant in STL. This place is Michelin worthy. Pray you get seated with Mike who offers a very relaxing dinner service.

Yelp
What an experience! As a Marylander, I can happily say, I'm in love with the seafood dishes here. I have to give a special shoutout to the crab cake!!! Oh my goodness. It's a small spot but I love the vibe. I got lucky and got a table solo without a reservation, but I got there and waited outside before they officially opened. I would happily come back again! It is worth it!

Yelp
Let me just start with this, Wrights Tavern is the best restaurant I've ever been to in Saint Louis and I'm always trying something new. We stumbled upon these reservations. The service was impeccable. Like in the movies. The lighting and atmosphere was very charming, absolutely full of customers to capacity but still very intimate. But all of that is shadowed by how amazing the food is. I am a steak man when it comes to upscale restaurants. Something in my guts told me to get the roasted chicken which is extremely rare. I'm not sure if I'll ever be able to try anything else on the menu. Just go here.
google avatar

Zach S.

Yelp
It lives up to the hype!! It took a few weeks to get a reservation and I can easily see why now. The ambiance, food and service were all great. It is a classic steak restaurant with some elevated flair to take it up a notch. So while you can get your classic steak cuts, a burger or a classic Caesar salad. You can also get some fantastic scallops (when the have them on special), halibut and even onion rings too! The drink menu is solid and it's a pretty quaint place, so it's not super noisy. Can't wait to get back here!

Yelp
Finally, we got into Wright's Tavern for a date night. I've been trying since it opened since I love Louie (Demun). It's very small so reservations go quickly. The atmosphere is bustling. It was packed when we arrived for an early dinner. Because of the size, you are very close to others so the waitstaff are squeezing in between tables and chairs. The bar is small with 4 chairs for those who arrive and snag a spot. It is not a place I would take children due to space, price and menu. Save this for a date night. We ordered the crab cake. It was delicious. It was huge and full of meat. Don't start eating crab cakes here as a first-timer or you'll be disappointed at all other restaurants! It was the highlight. We shared the potato crusted fish and the french dip. I wish we had skipped the french dip and chosen something else. It was good but did not stand out. The potato crust on the fish was incredible and the fish was cooked to perfection. We ended with the wedding cake. We had a few bites and took the rest to go. It was good and not too sweet. It adds up to a very expensive dinner when you add in wine + dessert so be prepared. We liked the food here but will likely stick with Louie for future date nights if given the choice between the two.

Yelp
No signage Hidden in plain sight This is Wrights Tavern, sister property of Louis on Demun. This elegant, quaint restaurant stays true to the restaurant chains law of "BY RESERVATION ONLY"! There are 4 seats at the bar, first come first serve! My date arrived late and so I was unable to be sat at the bar. The wait staff are super nice and professional. My lovely hostess kept me up to date the entire time as I waited. I will definitely revisit again. I'm not a reservation person so I'll try to go with company and make sure to get there early or at least wait. Everyone who left had very wonderful compliments to say. I could see... no one left hungry. The staff were attentive and it smelled wonderful. Enjoy!!

Yelp
Arguably the best meal I've had in 2023! I've been waiting months to get a suitable reservation time and I booked this 4 weeks in advance. A Monday, 6:15p, reservation for 1. Because I'd been anticipating this moment, this was a Dining for 1 night to fully enjoy it! My gosh, If I could give 10 stars, I would. The feel of the restaurant reminds you of New York. The high ceilings, dimmed lighting, the intimacy of the space, the sounds of the kitchen and professional staff all pull this together. My table was right near the kitchen and I full view of the staff member in charge of Bread, Desserts and Oysters. The sounds of the expediter/manager could be heard over my left shoulder, which was just fine for me. Glass of Pinot and Complimentary Bread to kick off. That seasoned whipped butter w/olive oil is addictive and will be trying to imitate that at home! Crab Cake next, it's huge! Definitely something that 2 can share or have it was a meal with a Side. Delicious doesn't begin to describe the initial happiness I felt at first bite. The sauce was a great compliment and the Crab Cake had just enough crispness on the edges for texture. Generous lumps of Crab meat are found throughout. The meal, I went with the Shrimp Scampi appetizer and Fries w/aioli and house Ketchup. Best decision ever! The Scampi butter with the chunks of garlic is amazing. Let the toast soak up some of that flavor and then eat it. You'll thank me later. I don't know what's in the aioli with those fries, but I'd like to purchase a tub of it for my house please. The size of the fries is enough for 2 people and they are addictive... fresh cuts of course! I made it through the Crab Cake, shrimp and 1/2 the fries, but trust me it was a beautiful challenge. I will make it a point to visit often as I'm excited to try other menu items. Can't say enough great things about the service and wait staff. Everyone was so friendly and you can feel how they love being there!

Yelp
This place has the best vibes. If you don't make your reservation in advance, maybe try to pop in with just a friend or two and sit at the bar. It was definitely worth every minute that we waited and every dollar that I spent. The ambience of that place seemed as if I was in a romcom. I love it so much.

Yelp
I've only been once and our server was great but the food wasn't . We had an app, dinner and split a dessert. All very average, unfortunately. Bummed.. I wanted to like this place.

Yelp
Was SUPER excited to try this place out, with Louie being my favorite restaurant in St Louis. Reservations however were seemingly impossible to get at a decent hour, gone the moment the next month becomes available. My girlfriend got on a list that notified her when something came available however , and I was elated when she called letting me know of a reservation that became available at 7pm. The good: The restaurant is absolutely beautiful. I love the ambience. A dimly lit space with a warm glow from the lighting. The service was fantastic. Everyone was super attentive and friendly. The cocktails were wonderful, as was the food. The bad: the space is extremely small, and cramped. I never really felt able to relax. Tables packed closely together, and servers constantly at one of the two tables next to us, or our own. With the restaurant packed full (as you can expect it will be for the foreseeable future) it was very loud as well. All in all, I enjoyed Wrights tavern. For the money though, I'll stick with Louie.

Yelp
I understand the hype of this place after visiting twice. I was able to snag reservations for two special occasions and enjoyed some awesome meals. It's a smaller spot with reservation only tables and a first come, first serve bar with 4 seats. I love the decor, which even extends to the bathroom. Don't miss it if you visit! Service the first time I came was exceptional. Our waiter was such a standout. He clearly had a passion for service and the food and beverage he served. Best service I've had in a long time! The second time we came, our waitress seemed very uninterested. Service was good in terms of taking care of our basic needs but zero friendliness or interest came through. It made a huge difference in the experience, though the food and drink was different each time. If i had her the first time i came, I would not have been as wowed. Hopefully it was a bad night for her. Now onto the food and drink.. the Paloma is my new favorite drink. Refreshing and served over crushed ice, it was just delicious! Companions also enjoyed the champagne cocktail and the pink lady. They start by bringing piping hot sourdough with whipped and seasoned butter, which is crusty and delicious. The Bibb salad with avocado, jicama, tomato and herbs is divine! Best salad ever. The dressing and herbs add such a flavor. The avocado is perfectly ripened and seasoned. Get it. The canestri pasta with spicy sauce is also amazing. I'm not a spicy person but this has the perfect balance. I'm a vegetarian and would love to see another veg entree on the menu. Companions raved over the filet and fish. I've tried the crème brûlée and the sundae, and liked both. The sundae is more gimmicky thank anything in my opinion- I thought the ice cream was ok but not the best I've had. Bonus points for presentation and toppings! Overall, I will definitely be back- and request that awesome waiter.

Yelp
Great place . The atmosphere is dark . I personally like that. The Caesar salad is excellent . The only complaint is it's to hard to get a reservation!

Yelp
Wow wow wow, worth all of the hype!! The long awaited, elusive reservation we were able to snag for a birthday celebration was beyond amazing. Every bit of our dining experience was fabulous. For the food, not one thing was off. By far the best was the crab cake. This is a MUST if you come to Wright's Tavern. The complimentary bread from Union Loafers was warm and a perfect accompaniment. The halibut and the steak were perfectly cooked and the sauce the halibut comes in is to die for. The dessert sundae was fun to share and we also had some dessert cocktails which were tasty! Our server was super attentive and friendly. If you are able to grab a resy here do it ASAP!

Yelp
We got the crab cake to start and it was incredible! I got the burger with onion rings and my boyfriend got the ribeye. Burger and onion rings were great, but kind of your standard high end burger. My boyfriend ordered the ribeye medium rare with the sauce on the side. The server told us "chef recommends medium", and my boyfriend thanked the server for the rec but said he wanted medium rare. The steak came out medium to medium well. When you're paying $75 for a steak it should be cooked the way you ordered. Needless to say, we aren't rushing back. They have a huge hype that we felt was under delivered. We did love the dark ambience!

Yelp
Would give less than 1 star if I could. A friend and I walked in at 5:02pm with no reservation, we had 30 minutes and wanted to grab a quick drink and download from the day. They said they do not serve drinks without dinner. We already had dinner plans in an hour so I asked if we could sit at the bar and they said no, unless we order dinner. There were only 4 other people in the entire place. I asked if they had many reservations before 6 as we were happy to order drinks & apps, the response was no. So ridiculous!!! You don't care about business if you turn people away. You may be the hype now but with this type of service, your business won't last long. Customers-walk down a block and go To Bar Moro-they are friendly!

Yelp
when a place is a pain in the ass to book.. it loses credibility. unless you use a concierge American Exoress Card service, you won't get in here. their reservation system is horrendous. Every month people go online before first day of month and book. I've just revealed the secrets to get in here. or show up 20 minutes before and sit at bar...

Yelp
WOW! Wright's is worth the hype! From the first sip of my Pink Lady cocktail to the last bite of the ice cream sundae, the common phrase was "the best ever". PRO-TIP: It's impossible to get a reservation at a decent hour but if you get to the restaurant at 4:45, you can be the first in line for one of the coveted bar seats! I ordered: Crab Cake, Sizzling Shrimp Scampi, Steak Au Poivre, Mac & Cheese, Onion Rings, and the Sundae. It was all 10/10!

Yelp
We stopped by for their signature dessert... the ice cream sundae! This dessert comes with a scoop of strawberry, chocolate, and vanilla ice cream with a large helping of whipped cream on top. There is a table side drizzle of hot fudge which is a fun experience! Toppings include: peanut butter cups, confetti sprinkles, caramel covered puffs, mint sparkle sprinkles, salted cashews, marshmallows, Biscoff cookies, small Kit Kats, cherries, M&Ms, and our favorite... toasted coconut shreds!! The ice cream was soft, creamy, and tasted almost like custard. The hot fudge was a perfect pairing and the ability to create your own bite with each topping made for an adventurous experience, perfect for family fun. This place is definitely fine dining with and elevated environment, very on par with the other higher-end restaurants in the Clayton area. There's only about 12-15 tables in the restaurant and 4 bar seats which makes the ambiance feel more cozy. The service was quick and the staff were very friendly. Rating: 4/5, the ice cream was stellar and very filling. It's a wholesome family experience that is a MUST DO when you visit this restaurant! We hope to be back to try their food and drinks soon!
