Austin Restaurants Closed in October 2024 - Eater Austin

"The downtown modern Chinese restaurant closed down its second location up north on October 11. The shuttering happened because its parent company Chameleon Hospitality was acquired by an unnamed restaurant group run by private equity, per the Instagram post. The post also notes that Chameleon’s managing partner Stuart Thomajan — who had been the founder of the company — is leaving. The company’s other restaurants, the original Wu Chow and New American restaurant Swift’s Attic will remain open. The post also shares that the new owners “will expand their current concept’s footprint,” which implies it’ll turn this space into a new restaurant. This location of Wu Chow opened in May 2023; before that, it was Chameleon’s American restaurant Rosedale Kitchen and Bar, and before that, seafood restaurant Guild, all under the Chameleon group." - Nadia Chaudhury

The 8 Best Soup Dumplings In Austin

"Wu Chow was one of the first spots to bring soup dumplings to Austin, so an order almost feels like an unofficial “thank you for your service.” These days, they’re not our favorite in town—the wrapper is thick and a little gummy—but they’ll scratch that soupy itch when it strikes. Grab an order for the table, then fill up the remaining space with dry-fried local green beans and tangerine peel beef. " - nicolai mccrary

Wu Chow - Rosedale - Review - Rosedale - Austin - The Infatuation

"The Wu Chow name is one that Austin has come to associate with soup dumplings, Downtown dim sum, and excellent Chinese food. And now that name has expanded to a second location in Austin, this time in the Rosedale neighborhood. The menu features plenty of overlapping dishes, plus a few new ones, with an emphasis on family-style plates." - Nicolai McCrary

The food and drinks were great. The atmosphere is very aesthetically pleasing. All of the waiters/waitresses were very friendly. I went for their happy hour. I got the lychee martrini, chicken and taro egg rolls, chicken fried rice, honey prawns entree, and the dumplings flight. While the food is really good you don’t get very much of the entrees.

Google
A bit on the expensive side but a great selection of Chinese cuisine! I recommend the beef coconut curry and the soup dumpling. I do wish they had spicier chili crisp though. But we enjoyed the food and very much loved the mango frozen cocktail! And the bathroom is so cute!

Ate here for an early lunch with my family for dim sum. Staff was really friendly and answered our questions. There's no push cart for dim sum here, so you'll place your order with the waitstaff. Everything we ordered came out in less than 10 minutes and was really fresh and delicious. My family was really impressed with how everything tasted. By the time we left, closer to noon, the restaurant started to get busy, so making a reservation may be a good idea if you have a larger party.

Happy hour is the way to go at Wu Chow. The prices are reasonable and the food is pretty good. Everything on the HH menu this time around was great. There were a couple of dishes on the regular menu that disappointed me. First, the duck fried rice was overpriced and I was expecting yummy Peking roast duck pieces but they used microwaved duck meat. I could taste that reheated microwave taste/smell and I hate when restaurants do this. Second, the cumin lamb flavor was great but it was so sad that they deep fried the lamb first. Now, onto the great things. You can never fail with 3 dishes: soup dumplings, dry fried green beans, and deep fried Sichuan chicken. These are my go-to dishes and they never fail me!! So if you’re new to Wu Chow, do these 3.

I really wanted those to be our new go-to for take out, but it won't be. I ordered ahead for a specific pick up time, and it was clearly prepared too early and was room temperature by the time we got home (a 7 minute drive from the restaurant). The portions were TINY. Seriously. We usually have leftovers for days with Chinese, but we barely eked out a meal for two, which would be fine if it weren't SO EXPENSIVE. We spent $100 on 2 entrees, green beans and some frozen dumplings. They tack on a lot of fees, so that's part of it. Also, they don't have everything available for takeout, which fine. The green beans had good flavor, but were cold. The pecan shrimp had no glaze flavor at all (but the pecans were good and they were cooked well). The dumplings were thawed, so we had to make them right away (which we would've done anyway given the small portions), and they were also open at the seams. The sesame beef was good. So, not our new place, which I'm sad about.

Google
Great food. Liked everything we ordered here. Especially the dried fried green beans. The ambience and the presentation are perfect. I wish there were some drink options for teetotalers. The menu is small and perfect. The place can have some waiting, so factor that in. The service is fast. Water glasses are small though 😁

I recently dined at this place and was impressed by the flavor and quality of their Chinese cuisine. The dishes were expertly prepared and presented, and the flavors were bold and savory. However, I was disappointed by the small portion sizes, which left me wanting more. While the food was delicious, the prices were steep, making it a less-than-ideal value. Overall, I'd recommend Wu Chow for a special occasion or treat, but be prepared for a higher bill and don't come too hungry!

DIM SUM, Sunday: I ordered 6 items. My honey doesn’t eat Asian food. MORE FOR ME! I ordered Soup dumplings, Pork Potstickers, Dan Dan Noodles, Foil Chicken, Scallion Pancake, Pork & Shrimp Shumai and a Mexican Coke. I ate it all! This food WAS OUTSTANDING! Sauces were paired SUPERBLY. Good size portions to share, if you’re into that sort of thing. Prices were VERY reasonable for being a block from Central (Pretentious) Market. Our server was very courteous, sweet and informed us of what she liked and I ordered based on her recommendations. I was not disappointed. We went during brunch on a Sunday 11am - noon. Not too busy at that time but was picking when we left. We got lucky and found a parking spot right in front. We won’t expect that next time. I (we) are definitely coming back. BTW, I love the brown chopsticks!

Yelp
Absolutely love not having to drive downtown to get good Asian food. Service was great, but the food was better. Other than the server cleaning the table next to us spraying sanitizer too close to our faces and food, we were extremely satisfied with our experience. Out of all our plates, the scallions hugging beef was my favorite. We were able to get a last minute reservation on a Friday night which was good for us, but I assume not great for the business.

Yelp
Really sad to see this restaurant closed. We tried another upscale Chinese restaurant that recently opened up nearby. It was not the same. We missed the food here and the closeness of this place to our house. Yes, I am aware they have their 5th street location still open, but that is less of a convenience location for us.

Yelp
Our first time here did not disappoint. The service was stellar with our waitperson offering many suggestions and helping me avoid anything too hot while helping my partner burn his tastebud to his hearts desire. We both started with soup - the egg noodle was flavorful without being overly salty which I really enjoyed. The dumplings were well made and the soup dumplings made me recall a trip to New York. My salt and pepper squid was perfection on a plate. I did not in fact try the Hunan Beef but heard no complaints from my partner who devoured it. Definitely a great place to kick off a night out or to enjoy a leisurely, intimate dinner.

Yelp
Our monthly pre-theater date night brought us to Wu Chow. I'd been to the one downtown before but not this location. We made reservations, got in and got out with a great meal - all during SxSW weekend! The food is Szechuan style Chinese and is decently close to authentic. The ingredients are local sourced and fresh, with more than generous portion sizes. The dumplings were a little thick and given a chance I'd skip them next time in favor of another small bite. The hot and sour soup had exactly the right texture. Would not hesitate to return.

Yelp
I definitely recommend this place. The food was so delicious! I can't decide if I like the green beans or shrimp the best. Or the noodle soup. I liked em all. I will say it's a little bit on the saltier side but personally I thought it was tasty! Service was good. We walked in on a Sat lunch, not too busy at all. It's a little dark inside but we sat by the window so it was brighter. Free parking lot right next door. Sundays are dimsum days.

Yelp
This place was perfect!! The food, the service, the server was so nice! And the place felt relaxed and comfortable which was perfect for date night!! Our server Christian had the friendliest attitude and was so helpful! He helped us pick out choices and made us smile and laugh while he did! If anyone goes here make sure you get him and a server! He told us that everything on the menu was meant to be eaten by two. The clay pot Snapper was huge! It came with a bowl of rice to eat with it was so spicy and delicious!!! I was sucked in on the first bite and couldn't put it down! We ordered some appetizers as well and were not disappointed by any of them. The chicken & Taro Egg rolls while looking thin were full of flavor and zest. The sauce that came with it was awesome, almost like a citrus/orange flavor. The cucumbers were incredible as well. The Tangerine Beef was PERFECT! It came with small peppers and onions covered in this tangerine glaze and the beef was perfectly crispy. I'm telling you this is an absolute must here. If you order one thing on this menu have it be this. The soup dumplings were amazing as well, and it was so nice that the gentleman who brought it out to us also offered to help show us how to eat it since it was our first time with soup dumplings. I don't care if you're looking for a nice place to eat, somewhere to sit down at the bar and have a couple of drinks. It's located off of N. Lamar and is the perfect way to end the evening. You guys have got to go!!

Yelp
My cousin booked this place for her sister bachelorette dinner before we went out. Service was great but because of our large group they just did a set menu. They bought everything out one by one and dumplings and pot stickers were delicious! I enjoyed the other entrees like the garlic green bean and beef stir fry but it was a bit on the salty side. I really enjoyed all the different assortments of dumpling though. They had great flavors and were so good. Oh the restaurant is really dark which is kind of weird to me cus we couldn't see anything until you got to the bathroom door then it was too bright

Yelp
Food: Soup Dumpling: Average..It is nothing too special. The wrapper is thin on the bottom and chewy in some parts. Kind of doughy. The meat filling was good and juicy and there was a bit of soup inside. The soup was not flavorful enough though. The soup dumpling overall was relatively plain, so I wish there was more flavor. Sesame Beef: Pretty good. It is a salty and savory dish with the slightest hint of sweetness. I wish it were a bit more sweet. It felt kind of one dimensional (?). I do also wish that the beef cubes were more tender. Unfortunately, it was kind of hard. I do like how it is slightly crispy on the outside. It is not battered or anything like that, but I believe it is fried because it is slightly crispy. Egg Custard Buns: I did not like these. Whenever I order dimsum I always get salted egg yolk buns, but these were not those. It is more of a custard bun. So, judging it as a custard bun..it is still not good. The bun itself is a steamed chewy dense bun with a bit of eggy, curdly custard filling. It is slightly sweet, but could have definitely been sweeter. Again, with this dish it is kind of plain. Pork and shrimp shumai: Now these were my favorite of the 4 dishes I ordered. It had a good strong ginger taste which was refreshing and delicious. The shrimp added a bit of texture that was fun and slightly crunchy with the juicy pork filling. Light, thin shu mai wrapper. It was overall very well made. Delicious, gingery, meaty, and flavorful! Service: The staff were very nice and helpful. Food came out kind of slowly but it is probably because it is made to order. Ambiance: Amazing spacious restaurant with booths and a barside. Great for dinner, lunch, eating with family and friends, or even as a date spot. The ambiance is nice. Restrooms are clean as well! So, overall, like many chinese restaurants in austin it has a more upscale feel so of course ambiance is good. Service is good too, however the food was lacking in my opinion. I would come back again to try their other menu items though to give it another chance for a full comprehensive review. It is a very limited menu and there are not very many items on it to choose from.

Yelp
I really wanted to love Wu Chow but it just felt short. The restaurant itself is beautiful and parking was super easy, but the food and service left a lot to be desired. Service - food came out very quickly which was great and our waitress was nice but there were several times when we both had empty water glasses and had to wait several minutes before she came back to refill the glasses and she forgot to bring extra rice and we had to remind her. Spicy Marinated Local Cucumbers (1/10) - these were pretty awful... WAY too salty to the point where we didn't even want to eat them and minimal flavor outside of the salt Singapore Noodles (7/10) - this dish was much better... the portion size was fantastic and it had good flavor (just didn't blow us away and wasn't anything special) Coconut Curry Beef (6/10) - great portion size with tons of beef but it was pretty salty which distracted from the rest of the flavors in the curry Pork Dumplings (5/10) - take or leave them... they definitely were nowhere near the best dumplings I've had but they weren't terrible either When I think back on this meal, all I can think of is salt so I can't say I'm in a rush to return. I love asian food and know that it tends to be higher in sodium compared to other cuisines but this was over the top with salt... almost to mask the lack of flavor from the ingredients. I will say that I was pleasantly surprised with the portion sizes and loved that you could get extra rice when needed to accompany the entrees, but that's about where my excitement ended.

Yelp
This was my first time at Wu Chow North Lamar, but not at Wu Chow where I went a few years back (not a big fan of downtown places). This one replaces the much missed Rosedale Kitchen and Bar and chef Poc, which I really thought was excellent. So, they have big shoes to fill! On arrival, the impression is positive. They have transformed the space, closed the open kitchen and installed some really cute seating areas. We went for dimsum on Saturday, around 2PM, so towards the end of the dimsum service. Service was excellent and attentive. First little hiccup, the iced tea was bad. Weak and stale, likely yesterday's tea. Ok, not good for a start, but we got something else. Plain water was actually very cold and clean, likely filtered with a good system. Get that! The rest was overall very good. The best was probably the shrimp stuffed eggplant, the shanghai soup dumplings and definitely the turnip cakes, which we tried both with sausage and shitake and fried (slight preference for the shitake option). We also got the Salt and Pepper shrimp which was decent but forgettable and the scallion cake which was fine. I would go back, skip the salt and pepper shrimp but get more shrimp stuffed eggplant, turnip and soup dumplings. If you do that, the bill remains acceptable and you eat well.

Yelp
Everything went well with our dinner. Our original server Daniel was wonderful. However, he went off duty before we finished eating. He was kind enough to let us know that he was leaving and gave us the name of his replacement. The food was absolutely amazing! We ordered more than we could eat. My favorites were the eggplant, cumin lamb, and lychee martini.

Yelp
I first visited Wu Chow at the downtown location and loved it. Except that it's downtown, which means parking is impossible. I was so excited when I heard they were opening in the former Rosedale Kitchen space. It is also closer to home! The entrance is really striking, and parking is a breeze. They did a really beautiful job with the interior. On both occasions, we had amazing service. For drinks, we asked for bartenders choice mocktails thinking we would all get the same drink. But the bartender decided to make 4 different drinks! It's the little things like this that make a restaurant experience. Our staples are the spicy cucumbers, dry local green beans and chengdu chili chicken, but you really can't go wrong here. I really appreciate their labeling of GF items. I've also had the sichuan fried chicken, which is a treat as a GF person. It's really crunchy and spicy! The hunan style beef is also very good. But perhaps my favorite dish is the singapore noodles. Full of flavor and very soft, these noodles are so so good. I highly recommend Wu Chow North Lamar. The service is great, the ambiance is amazing, the food fantastic. You get a lot of bang for your buck here, and I will be visiting frequently!

Yelp
Look, I love Wu Chow - the downtown one reminds me of birthday brunches, eating perfectly cooked greens, and many, many delicious varieties of fried shrimp (my favorite food group!) When I learned there was going to be a Wu Chow super close to my house, I was SO excited! And I still am - but I will note that this place has not quite caught up to the downtown Wu Chow's practiced perfection. We got several types of dumplings, Chinese broccoli, turnip cakes, and iced tea - everything was good, but a few things weren't as hot/crispy/perfectly cooked like the original location. Will definitely try again!

Yelp
Had another good experience on a cold winter day in Austin at the Wu Chow north Lamar location. It would be even lovelier on their patio. We sat by a bright floor to ceiling window which was nice. Server (Madison) was attentive and knowledgeable about the preparations and menu favorites. We had salt and pepper shrimp, Shrimp and Cilantro potstickers, broccoli with Oyster sauce, crispy turnip cakes and sesame balls. All were well prepared. The broccoli was a huge hit--cooked perfectly, not too saucy. this is the same as the 5th street location but not as crowded.
google avatar

Lauren G.

Yelp
Delicious place for Sunday dim sum brunch. Everything was delicious, especially the Soup dumplings, turnip cakes (both shiitake and beef) & beef bao.
google avatar

W C.

Yelp
Unfortunately, our experience here this past weekend with another couple could have been much better than it was--lots of unforced errors. This is definitely one of those doomed locations in Austin that has frequent restaurant turnover, and it's not like Wu Chow did much with the space. Lots of shabby/tacky decor and chipped paint and scuffed flooring and it didn't feel particularly nice in there. Cocktails are obnoxiously pricey at $16 a pop, and while the few that we all tried were fine, they certainly didn't merit the price tag. We do have to say that while most of the food we had was good, our friend found a hair--A FREAKING HAIR--in one of the dishes, and while he didn't think it was a big deal, we did. So gross and unprofessional and one of us thinks this should be a one-star review for that reason alone! UGH. We ordered some apps and then we put our mains in after our drinks came, but all of the dishes basically came out at once. Bam, bam, bam--zero consideration into coursing and plating, etc. The soup dumplings are delicious, but the spicy wantons are less impressive. We loved the braised eggplant and the green beans, but these are dishes that you can find virtually prepared the same way at Asia Cafe for, like, half the price! The chicken with celery dish was the one with the hair in it, so we're only going to attribute the adjective disgusting to that. The cumin lamb had pieces of meat that were too big, and the snapper mala could have used a lot less orange in it (no, we don't want to be eating a ton of rind strips every other bite!). The Wu Chow special fried rice was completely meh. Service was sufficient, but didn't make a significant impression, and the price was really high for what it was given the overall atmosphere and the fact that there was a hair in our food. Needless to say, we bolted out of there to get dessert somewhere else. 2.5 stars, rounding down with little desire to return.

Yelp
Every time I come to Austin, I've got to eat at Wu Chow. As someone with dietary restrictions and a sensitive stomach, I appreciate that they can accommodate and offer a large majority of their food gluten free. I'd say the food is meant to be shared and I highly recommend going that route. The dry fried local green beans are to die for. They are my favorite and I get them every time. The flavors are on point and they are cooked to perfection. This was my first time getting their Wok Toasted Cumin Lamb...I've been missing out. The lamb was delicious and the cumin wasn't overwhelming, it was just right. We also had the Scallion Hugging Beef, Chengdu Chili shrimp and Singapore Noodles. The beef and shrimp were flavorful and really good. The noodles were my least favorite and kind of underwhelming. Overall, the food is amazing and I wish there were more Chinese places like this.
google avatar

Adriane V.

Yelp
Last minute decision, but great choice. Service was great, and food was delicious. I took a seat at the bar, ordered a Ol' Dirty Fashion and Singapore Noodles. Both items were flavorful. The atmosphere was subtle and nice vibes for a quick drop in, or date night.

Yelp
Walking up is similar to the past few establishments that didn't survive in this space - confusing, as in you must approach from the garage-side or work your way through the circuitous patio back to the entry on the back side (opposite Lamar). Ambiance is warm, similar to an upscale modern Asian bistro in the Uchi vein. I was able to be seated immediately in the bar area without a reservation, which provides a nice view of the beautiful restaurant. Megan's service was exceptional, her knowledge of the menu very strong and attentive to details. If my review were based on food alone, it would be less a star, as the Wok Toasted Cumin Lamb was tough, dry, and powdered in the singular spice - begging for a nice sauce, but in this case, just more water please. Honey Pecan Gulf Prawns are large and were cooked nicely, but the sauce was relatively simple, pecans halved and not adding much complexity. The Dry Fried Local Green Beans were a show-stopper: lightly crispy, salty and savory, spotted with scallions. Very good greens! Nice cheeky selection of mocktails and other bevvies to pair. Adding a star for Brooke (their lovely manager's) receptiveness to feedback - sounds like the lamb may have been off and I'm always game for a new experience!

Yelp
Been wanting to try this place and finally went for dinner. Had the eggplant, soup dumpling and hugging beef. Food was really good, but my friend and I was disappointed that they didn't have any hot sauce option just the chili oil which was not spicy at all. Staff was friendly but kinda slow. But overall had a good experience. Would def come back and try other dishes.

Yelp
Expensive Chinese that wants to be haute cuisine. Thrills available but you have to work at it. * * * Good Points. 1) Main dish proteins can be fantastic. 2) Anything with a sweet sauce dumped on it is fantastic. 3) Vegetables are perfectly cooked and start as excellent raw ingredients. 4) If you absolutely positively have to have wine with your Chinese food, they have a good cellar. To me, having wine with Chinese food Is like dipping my French food in wasabi and soy sauce. But there are people who really, really love their wine. * * * Bad Points. 1) The price. 2) The bar. I sent back my blueberry vodka and champagne drink as being undrinkable. 3) The price. 4) The lack of selection. One of the thrills of a Chinese restaurant is looking at a 12 or 20 page menu overloaded with options. Here they hand you a minimalist menu. What they have is what you get. 5) The price. 6) The unadventurousness of the menu. Nearly everything here is off some top 20 list as the best selling dishes on American Chinese menus. To be sure, they are one step above sweet and sour pork. And they do have a meatball recipe that one rarely sees. But you will recognize many standard items: kung pao chicken, mapo tofu, beef chow mein, tangerine beef. They try to obscure this by using funny spelling and occasionally using a variant name for the dish. I think management thinks if they change the spelling of dishes, customers will think this is genuine authentic Chinese cooking. Are they really fooling anybody? 7) And then there is the matter of the price. * * * My wife and I spent 80 dollars for a meal that had some taste thrills such as the fish in a hot pot. The meal was obviously well cooked. But there was nothing exciting here. Four days later, I went to China Palace on Airport, ate an all-Chinese Chinese dinner that was absolutely outstanding - and paid twenty six dollars for two. Was Wu Chow three times better than China Palace? I don't think so.

Yelp
Wu Chow's food was amazing! The service was excellent and the atmosphere was inviting! I highly recommend this place for a romantic date night!

Yelp
Some of the bessst Hot & Sour soup I've had in Austin. Our service was great. Also had the beef scallion dish which was also delicious.
google avatar

David C.

Yelp
Over-priced and underwhelming food. Service was ok, but ordered almost half of the limited dim sum menu and not 1 dish stood out as being comparable to traditional dim sum restaurants. Definitely recommend to avoid the turnip cake, which was bland with comically small portions. Even messed up the classical Char Siu Bao, which was fried and drizzled with honey. Total bill came out to $160 for 2 adults and 2 kids.

Yelp
Had the best meal here with a big party last night, food came out fast and fresh and fantastic! Black bean chicken and chengdu chicken were outstanding ! Great service also THE BURGER was amazing! Who knew Duck and sirloin and pork belly on scallion bun. Had to try it and would get it again!
google avatar

Bora K.

Yelp
We had a dinner for Christmas. We had Sichuan Deep Fried Chicken for small plates which was really soggy. Also the twice cooked pork belly smells really bad. I think the pork was not fresh or something wrong. The chilly shrimp was the only one I felt delicious. Also, the server never came to our table so I had to wait for a while to pay.. Ambiance was good.

Yelp
I stumbled into this place after visiting the bank. The atmosphere was lively and modern. Very clean. I was escorted to a seat at the bar where a lovely bartender greeted me, got my drinks promptly (however not having Dr. Pepper in Texas is a sin.. shame Wu), and then I began perusing the menu. Not overbearing- simple & elegant menu options; i became excited on the prospect of this random meal I have found myself at. I started with the beef skewers & a hot & sour soup. The beef was so tender, marinated perfectly, and the soup was very good as well. I was also given an egg-roll reminiscent of a taquito (very very thin), however it was also delectable. No complains from the starters. My only suggestion would be to make the hot & sour just a smidgen more tangy & to wash the mushroom more thoroughly, they were a tad dirty. I then ordered the Scallion Beef & the Snapper. (After asking the bartenders favorite foods, i decided to try both!) The beef was surprisingly a smaller portion than I had envisioned in my head- however my criticism of the amount of food on my plate went out the window once i tasted it. Needless to say there was nothing left. Tender, moist, fully rounded in flavor composition and aesthetic. Fantastic. Next, the Citrus Snapper. The aromas from this dish were intoxicating. The sauce is powerful & delicate at the same time, as if performing an intrepid dance of fine lines & resiliency. The vegetables were fresh and had that "snap" to them that you want from a fresh vegetable. However, the snapper was a tad overcooked. As I ate this dish- it dawned on me that Scallops in lieu of Snapper would be PERFECT for this dish. Was this the best Asian restaurant I have ever been to? No. Was this an absolutely great surprise on my lackluster Monday? You betcha. Hats off to the peeps on the back doing good work. My bartender never forgot about me even while she had a reservation room full of guests. Professional & sweet- the perfect combination in this industry. 8/10. Happy belly.

Yelp
I've been a WU Chow fan since the OG opened downtown. When I heard a second one was coming, I was curious to see what it was all about. Well, I'm so glad I went to this location with my parents when they were in town - it trumps the original one when it comes to parking (pro tip: the parking garage off Medical Pkwy is free!), maintains the food quality and the ambiance. Our server for the evening was Ian and he was helpful and attentive, without being overbearing. We started with the Shanghai Soup Dumplings, which are a MUST for me when at WU Chow as they are SO good (and yes, even got them when it was 100+ F outside!). You get a count of 5 per order. Then we shared - which is highly recommended here - the Gong Bao Chicken (spicy and delicious!), Scallions Hugging Beef (still salivating at the thought!) and the ever-popular Dry Fried Local Green Beans (the most incredible green beans - we were fighting over them!). We left feeling full, but not stuffed - and without any leftovers. You can make a reservation on Open Table. I really hope that WU Chow does well in this second location - love having a more convenient spot for their incredible food!

Yelp
Went for dim sum and had some great food. All was tasty and fresh. We had several items. Pork pot stickers, pork and shrimp shu mai, chicken shu mai, shrimp and cilantro dumplings, Dan Dan noodles, shrimp balls, ribs and spicy wontons. Service was great and will return for dinner soon.

Yelp
Hosted an annual holiday lunch for a professional networking group. The event was wonderful and we had an excellent experience working with the event staff. The food quality, as always, was amazing!

Yelp
What a GREAT HAPPY HOUR. 4:30-6:00pm M-F. The cocktails are $4-5 off of original price and appetizers are delicious. We ordered the spicy cucumber, eggrolls, fried chicken, soup dumplings. I would order all of these again except the eggrolls. Overall, I was impressed by the food, vibe, prices. They have a great ambiance with the decor and option for large patio seating. This would be a great place for moderate size groups to enjoy happy hour on the patio. The server and staff were very attentive and kind!

Yelp
We hosted our 30 person wedding rehearsal dinner here, and Wu Chow absolutely delivered on all fronts! Their private dining room was perfect for our group and the staff was extremely attentive. We made a request for less seasoning, which the chef executed flawlessly! We'd highly recommend Wu Chow if you are considering a similar private dining event!

Yelp
The service was excellent and the food was as well. Fantastic restaurant to have business meals at as the tables are spaced apart, so you will not have to shout over the noise of the restaurant. I will be coming back.

Yelp
Just went for opening night & it was great as expected! Consistency was what you get downtown. Special fried rice was amazing as usual. Veggies were all fresh and the green beans OMG. The vibe inside is super dark & moody, definitely going to be a great place for happy hours & date nights!! Plenty of the cocktails you'd expect & portion sizes of the food matched the pricing appropriately. Had a nice bottle of bubbly to celebrate the opening of a fav place that is now much closer. Plus, the parking garage is cheaper & easier than downtown. Didn't check out the patio but did see quite a bit of outdoor seating. Service was also great and had multiple different people checking on us throughout the meal. Our reservation was closer to closing and we didn't feel rushed at ALL. Super friendly, vibey, fresh,

Yelp
Dine here if you enjoy unseasoned, inconsistently cooked food at a steep price. Our cocktails were overly sweet and tasted like they'd skimped on the alcohol. The braised eggplant came with some tender pieces and others that were genuinely tough to chew. The Mapo Dofu was a bland, soupy slurry of starchy tofu and large green onions covered in white pepper and nothing else. Entrees came out first, followed by rice later, and appetizers at the end of the meal. Slow service on a Saturday night at 15-20% capacity.

Yelp
Showed up at 2 for their Dim Sum menu. I could go into paragraphs of detail of the experience but I don't want to waste any more energy or time on this place, so I'll summarize: Waiter did an extreme botch job. Half the food was inedible, undercooked, flavorless dough. Don't go.

Yelp
So my husband heard good things about WU Chow so we tried it very nice place Madison J was our server thumbs up very informative on the menu so my husband had the WUChow special combination fried rice which they charge an additional $2 to get fried rice if not you are sever steam rice I had the chicken Chinese celery which was not to my liking No favor and way too much ginger for me the sweet corn egg ribbon soup was tasty so my husband said the spicy wonton soup was good and the Kirin Ichiban beer was excellent! Plus the music was cool. Thank you Madison for sending the manager over to our table he understood my unhappiness with the dish and removed it. I will definitely come back and check this place out they have a lot of different dishes I would love to try. Really wish the had more on the desert menu other then ice cream. Give this place a try

Yelp
So disappointing. This was like a bad first date- super hot person, zero personality or substance. Beautiful restaurant, shockingly awful food. I started feeling bad for the server trying to compensate for kitchen mishaps and poorly made food. With so many fine restaurants needing staff, you have to wonder why anyone would want to deal with this. Just bail, dude. They were aware enough to comp a soup I didn't want to eat because it tasted lick a pasture salt lick. So if the hot date pays for themselves at the end of the meal that's at least something. Pretty much that's what I got out of this experience.

Yelp
Very ordinary tasting food. Highly overrated...just another PFChang. But service was good but expensive compared to the quality of food.

Yelp
Literally amazing place. We LOVED the food so so much! Probably the best Chinese food I have ever eaten. Only thing that was strange is the food came out before my drink did, so definitely order your drink right away and I would wait to order food for a few minutes. The dumplings do take at least 15 minutes so you could order your drink and dumplings when you first sit down. Ordered the Sesame beef crispy, Singapore noodles, Beef potstickers, and Fried Green beans EVERYTHING was sooo good.

Yelp
My family and I enjoyed dim sum @ Wu Chow this weekend for the very first time (it will not be the last). Our server Morgan made the experience very enjoyable. She had such a great calming personality and her attention to service was impeccable. Additionally, her recommendations were right on. We enjoyed 10-12 dishes and they were all delicious! What a great restaurant with a great staff that all works together as a team unit. Thank you - Wu Chow for the great dining experience!

Yelp
Celebrated my Grandsons graduation from UT. The food was pre-ordered and was delicious and service was "spot on"!

Yelp
The green beans steal the show. The fried chicken and crispy beef were perfect. I've been here a few times and the service is great. It's a bit loud in terms of noise level. They have great seating options for groups. Lots of parking!

Yelp
We'd done the downtown location for dim sum with friends and thought we'd try dinner at the easier to park at 38th & N Lamar location. The soup dumplings seemed to have much thicker skins this time, to their detriment. The Curry chicken skewers would sure benefit from some actual grilling- yakitori-style, carmelized sauce, browned- they were bland and tasteless. The chili beef skewers were marginally better. The cumin lamb- the dish we came for- didnt have any dried red chili peppers in the dish, as per usual. Good, soft lamb, lots of cumin, but not really szechuan. The Eggplant was way too sweet. Excellent service from Idalis B! Probably wont be back.

Yelp
All I can say is, "wow". The wait staff is absolutely clueless. I know this is a newer location, but as a former server, knowing the menu is extremely important. Given that items go off the menu when they are sold out, and there is a limit on what items can be vegan, going back to "double check" items can cost the customer one of the few options they have on the menu. The scallion pancakes were under cooked, there was sauce that wasn't vegan on the plate that we didn't know had shellfish on it. Not to mention, we asked for the check having two bites of the pancakes and no one asked if everything was okay or if they could get anything else for us. The server even said "enjoy" when handing us the check. I can tell you what I did not "enjoy", the carelessness to actually act if everything was okay. I have never had a worse experience in an austin restaurant before.

Yelp
I had higher hopes, I came for brunch on Sunday with some friends. The Soup dumplings were delicious and the vinegar sauce that you put on it was amazing. The beef dumplings were good. The Dan Dan noodles could have been great but they were salty salty. The ribs were over fried and didn't offer much flavor, bring fried they were over cooked. The sugar cane shrimp lacked flavor. The cold sesame noodles were ok but just tasted like peanut butter noodles. I'd consider giving it another try but thought it was a bit over priced for too much salt and no flavor

Yelp
Wanted to try this new location so went on the Monday after opening. The entry is on the back of the building. Made a reservation and sat outside on the patio which is shaded and sheltered from traffic sounds even tho it's right on Lamar. Waitstaff were attentive and knowledgable. My friend started with a Texan's Take on Tiki and loved the smoky taste. Not seeing any Chardonnay on the wine list, the server brought me something described as buttery which wasn't to my taste and was switched out with an Austrian Gruner wine which was much better. The pour didn't seem generous but is probably the standard amount. Our other diner ordered an Ol' Dirty Fashioned which he said was very good. The next Ol' Dirty had noticeably more chili oil. We started with a small plate of Sichuan Deep-fried Chicken ($11) which was yummy and the chives and peppers seasoning in the bowl was truly delicious. For entrees we shared Sichuan Braised Eggplant ($16), Honey Pecan Prawns ($24 - get this!) and Crispy Sesame Beef ($23). All were very good. A bowl of white rice for the table was no charge. Parking is free in the garage behind the restaurant but we didn't know that so we all parked in the street. This was a very pleasant dining experience and I will go again - for the Honey Pecan Prawns especially!
