Wu Chow serves up vibrant, farm-fresh Chinese cuisine in downtown Austin, perfect for dim sum brunch or a lively dinner, complete with tasty cocktails.
"The downtown modern Chinese restaurant closed down its second location up north on October 11. The shuttering happened because its parent company Chameleon Hospitality was acquired by an unnamed restaurant group run by private equity, per the Instagram post. The post also notes that Chameleon’s managing partner Stuart Thomajan — who had been the founder of the company — is leaving. The company’s other restaurants, the original Wu Chow and New American restaurant Swift’s Attic will remain open. The post also shares that the new owners “will expand their current concept’s footprint,” which implies it’ll turn this space into a new restaurant. This location of Wu Chow opened in May 2023; before that, it was Chameleon’s American restaurant Rosedale Kitchen and Bar, and before that, seafood restaurant Guild, all under the Chameleon group." - Nadia Chaudhury
"Wu Chow was one of the first spots to bring soup dumplings to Austin, so an order almost feels like an unofficial “thank you for your service.” These days, they’re not our favorite in town—the wrapper is thick and a little gummy—but they’ll scratch that soupy itch when it strikes. Grab an order for the table, then fill up the remaining space with dry-fried local green beans and tangerine peel beef. " - nicolai mccrary
"The North Lamar location of the Chinese restaurant won’t open for lunch, but will open for dinner." - Nadia Chaudhury
"The Wu Chow name is one that Austin has come to associate with soup dumplings, Downtown dim sum, and excellent Chinese food. And now that name has expanded to a second location in Austin, this time in the Rosedale neighborhood. The menu features plenty of overlapping dishes, plus a few new ones, with an emphasis on family-style plates." - Nicolai McCrary
