Such a staple. Especially for Szchzean fix. Hot& sour soup, mapo tofu, fried rice can't go wrong. Did have shots of namesake Wu Liang Ye now priced $20. Chaser Tsingtao of course. Deadly night drinking much water afterwards. But, when seldom comes, why not splurge.

It is pretty good. Was going to get the fish fillet but our waiter suggested the whole fish instead. Clams were delicious as well

We went to this Chinese restaurant as a group after seeing the Christmas Spectacular, with friends, kids and school teachers, and had a wonderful experience. The service was kind and attentive, and the staff made us feel very welcome. The food was authentic, fresh, flavorful, and not greasy, which was a big plus. There were also a good number of vegetarian options, which made ordering easy for everyone in our group. I especially loved the lazy Susan in the middle of the table—it made sharing dishes effortless and fun. We visited on a Saturday after Thanksgiving, and it was pleasantly not crowded, which made the lunch even more enjoyable. Overall, a great spot for group dining with tasty food and excellent service.

The services are always great/Fantastic! This was my second time that I got wired on my take out food!! 1. It was a staple inside with the rice! 2. Now, today’s day I got a metal bended piece inside a dumpling! Why me, what had I done to you mongers!! Besides, I am an actual regular for years. I always tip on top of what ever the was percentage! Being polite, zero personalities nor egos!!

Food was decent, we dined in with 5 people. However, we were denied the lunch menu which was advertised as "served" on the front door, and which was of course cheaper. It was on a Thursday at 1pm. When we suggested we were going to leave, the waiter got quite nervous and starting mentioning how the restaurant was "over 30 years old!" Overall a bad service experience, even if the food ended up being good.

The Sichuan food here is excellent. We’ve been coming here for years, and the service and the quality of the food is consistently outstanding. We ordered the steamed fresh bacon with garlic soy vinaigrette, sliced scungilli with roasted chili vinaigrette, hand shredded chicken with spicy sesame vinaigrette, ox tongue and tripe with roasted chili-peanut vinaigrette, dan dan noodles, sautéed chicken with roasted chili and peanut (kung pao chicken), braised whole fish with sichuan chili miso sauce, shredded pork with spicy garlic sauce, sautéed baby bok choy, and sautéed string beans with Yibin City spices. Everything was absolutely delicious. We always recommend this place to friends and family, and we will definitely keep coming back!

Absolutely delicious, the Szechuan cuisine is the best. We got the dandan noodle appetizer, the yibin fried rice, and the stir fried chicken w/capsicum and they were amazing. Great service and a nice quiet atmosphere.

Yuuuummy! Very clean and quiet. Lots of liquor. Had the General Tsao (don’t know how to pronounce it), little spicy and very good. The pepper steak was bangin. The fried Tangerine chicken was gobbled up. Chicken fried rice and chicken lo-mein kills! Thanks Mr and Mrs Wu Liang Ye, you guys can cook! UPDATE! 5-6 months later we’re back from florida and I still haven’t taken before pictures because the food was so good. My favorite Asian restaurant in New York by far. Tastes clean and non greasy. I ate here in February of 2017 on a whim.. the food and service was so good it's been an ongoing story ever since among my friends and family. Definitely the best Chinese food myself and my best friend who dined with me ever had. I visited again this year for the first time since that trip, and the food and service were still 10/10. I ordered a couple of dishes we got last time, the Tangerine Chicken and Chow Mien, but also branched out and tried some new items. We were blown away with how every single dish was better than the last. Our server (regretfully I didn't get his name) explained each dish to us as they came out which was nice. Overall I can't speak more highly of this place, by far the best Chinese food I've ever had, and I will definitely make more of an effort to pop in here when I'm in the east coast. To the staff: please never change a thing about this place!

$18 and was recommend by someone on Reddit. And I really didn't like this. There were bell peppers in it and even water chestnuts. The audacity to have those in this dish. Zero wok hei, or sichuan peppercorns. No spice at all. Clumpy tasteless sauce . The chicken tasted like it was boiled, no sear. Super disappointing

Pretty good solid Chinese restaurant with decent prices considering its prime location - right near the Rockefeller tree. Made a reservation ahead of time as we were a big group. Particularly enjoyed the Chicken Cashew Nuts and their fried rice. My kids really enjoyed the dumplings. Would definitely come back here again when I'm in the area.

The flavors had complexity I didn't expect to find. The serving size exceeds expectations for the price. The dishes meet standards, the atmosphere creates mood and the service meets needs. Quick service paired with kindness. This restaurant is remarkable and I'll make it a habit.

Met a former colleague here for dinner and we had a wonderful time catching up and enjoying the delicious entrees. We started off with the Dan Dan Noodles (a must). For entrees, we had the stir fry chicken with spicy capsicum and fried prawns with walnuts. I highly recommend all three items. I also got double-cooked bacon with peppers, sautéed green beans, and cucumber salad. I've been coming here for two decades. The food and service are top quality. The decor is dated but clean. Post-covid, you don't need a reservation for dinner but at lunchtime the place fills up quickly.

Chinese Sichuan cuisine. I think their spicy dishes were better. We had a big lunch and didn't want to order anything heavy so we ordered the plain healthy ones. I'm so glad they even offered vegetarian options. The service was nice and the atmosphere was quiet for early dinner. 3*Mixed Veg in Broth 素菜汤: plain and healthy. I'm glad they even offer something so healthy. 3*Steamed Spinach & Tofu清蒸波菜豆腐: some kind of say sauce was served on the side. It was a nice touch. One can have it as heavy or as light as they choose. 3.5*Braised Fish Filets w. Tofu 泡菜豆腐鱼柳: big portion and lots of fish and sauce. Its taste was a bit funny but nevertheless we ate everything!

It wasn't very busy at the moment and we were placed at the back of the establishment. We were handed these menus that looked like they have been used for many, many years; literally falling apart... yet, charming in its own way...? When you examine the room, it looks ancient. I really wonder what the place used to be before they used it for a Chinese restaurant. Our server was knowledgeable, swift and very pleasant to converse with. I asked him how long they have been operating at the location and he replied "Over 30 years". We ordered the Spicy whole fish. I asked to have the heat turned down. I'd imagine that if they had prepared it the way they should have it'd have delivered that unique, tingly spice that pepper corns are known for. For me, it was very mild. My buddy thought it was still a bit spicy. Regardless of our personal opinion on heat level... it tasted pretty good. Thinking that just a fish wasn't gonna be enough food for us, we also got the Young Chow Fried Rice. Well, that fish dish could have been a meal all in itself. The fish was covering a bed of glass noodles and Enoki mushrooms. It all played together well. I found the sauce so tasty I mixed it in with the fried rice, lol! It was quick lunch and I am not gonna lie, we went in expecting lunch specials. They do not serve lunch specials in house. Take out only.

went there for the Lunch Special as listed on menu posted outside on flyer. turns out Lunch Special is for TAKE OUT ONLY according to manager. This is very misleading. However glad we stayed- portions were very big (enough for 2). Quality of food perfect. Very good service & old world charm ambiance. Will definitely eat there again.

This restaurant has been around for over 20 years and still looks like a great establishment. You cant make reservations online but you can by calling them. The restaurant wasn't super busy when we arrived around 6:30 on a saturday night and we ordered a lot of food. Scallion pancakes, crab and pork soup dumplings, dan dan noodles, cheng du cold noodles, green beans, shredded potatoes, mapo tofu, steamed fish, shrimp, and twice cooked pork. Overall the service was pretty fast and the food was good. The twice cooked pork used bacon instead of pork belly so it was a little salty and the shredded potatoes didnt have too much flavor. The menu is pretty extensive and there are a lot of options!

On my last day in NYC, I wanted to try another Chinese restaurant. I got an excellent recommendation from the concierge at my hotel. Her recommendation was Wu Liang Ye, known for its authentic Chinese delicacies. I ordered Prawns with Garlic sauce and brown rice. The food was excellent, and the flavor was balanced. The delicious food was matched by the service I received. The wait staff was very responsive to my desires. However, they weren't hovering. The ambiance is that classic old-school New York Times Square-type restaurant. You won't be disappointed. Overall, this was a great experience.

One of the best Midtown lunch deals in the neighborhood! I place orders for pick up and they're always very quick to fill them; food is always piping hot and fresh. The Chongqing spicy chicken is wonderfully authentic, get it if you're in the mood for a quick trip to Sichuan for your tastebuds - they use Sichuanese peppercorns in the dish! Also recommend the stir fried green beans dish (ganbian siji dou), also a classic, authentic Sichuanese dish. If you want something more American, go with the kung pao chicken - not spicy, and very mildly flavored.

My first time here. Its on the 2nd floor so you have to get a set of steps to get to the restaurant. I was actually just here with co workers to pick up a large order so I didn't actually eat here. I did get a chance to peek at the set up though. Decent sized space for a restaurant. Seems like it is an old town house. There's a bar right by the entrance and there were plenty of tables. I'm not positive but I want to say there was an outdoor seating area in the back? Our order was all there but they didn't mark down what each dish was which I think should be standard with large orders. The food was good but very spicy. I actually like spicy food so it wasn't an issue for me. I'll be back again.

I came here for dinner on a Thursday night before seeing a Broadway show with my family since they love Szechuan food. We ordered the pork belly with leeks and the shredded beef with peppers (both very classic Szechuan dishes) along with two bowls of white rice. I didn't find either dish spicy but at least they were well seasoned. The portion was large but it was still pretty expensive for each dish ($20). I don't mind paying that much if it tasted amazing but it didn't. Service was a bit slow even though there were only two tables but the food came out fast. It's pretty pricey for Chinese food so I don't know if I would come back.

I am so happy we came to this gem in the city. Upon arrival it was quiet inside there was only one other guest but soon people started trickling in. The service was great and I appreciated the check-ins to make sure the food we received was to our liking. We ordered the vegetable rolls (not pictured), vegetable dumplings as apps. They were so fresh and delicious. The meal portions match the cost. Of course we had leftovers. We left for our Broadway show feeling full but not heavy. Which is always a great feeling. Can't wait to get back here for some fresh and authentic food.

This is literally across the Rockefeller Building epi- center . Would be the best and recommended Chinese restaurant in the area as it is a sit down style unlike the buffet style few yards up. It is on a second floor and not wheelchair accessible. The place needs an update if they want to gather more customers to come by. We ordered the Peking duck , fried rice and veggies. Food is okay. As a customary, free hot tea , free orange fruit and a hot towel for hands clean up at the end of the meal. Pricey , we paid extra because of its prime location.

This is what I imagined New York Chinese places during the holidays to be like. There was no wait, everything was straightforward, and the food was good for us on a REALLY cold December night when we were visiting. There were a diverse group of people there, and it just reminded me of an early 2000s holiday movie in the city. The servers were all very sweet and friendly, and this means a lot since we went to other places that weren't as welcoming that weekend. We got some basic lo mein and general tso's chicken, with Dan Dan noodles. It was 9 pm. We were already full with food (and alcohol, fine) but I really wanted to get the ma po tofu and duck so hopefully I'd get to try those next time. Surprisingly spacious inside!

When walking past you probably wouldn't notice the gem that awaits inside. Once you ascend the stairs, you enter a beautiful and chic dining area, garnished in old fashioned charm. The food itself is very authentic to traditional Cantonese Chinese food, and highly recommend ordering the mapo tofu, and Dan Dan noodles with the rest of your family style meal!

Authentic and good Szechuan restaurant across from Rockefeller Center. We have dined at Wu Liang Ye many times over the years. The restaurant appears to be in a converted row home. The dining room is adorned with fireplaces and crystal chandeliers. Overall the decor is a little sadly old and could use an update. We weren't too hungry this last visit so decided to have a couple of appetizers and a main entree to share. We ordered the chilled spicy noodles and potstickers to start. Both were really good and met our expectations. The general tso's chicken consisted of good-sized chunks of white meat chicken that wee battered, fried and stir-fried in the general tso's sauce--one of the better ones we've had on the east coast. Definitely a decent place for Chinese food in midtown for lunch or dinner!

Came here for Linner with family before we set off to see the Rockefeller tree. The location is really close because we cane with Grandma and she has a walking stick. Unfortunately, this place has stairs leading to the entrance from outside. The food was okay. I recommend sticking to the spicy schezwan type dishes. Don't the soup dumplings. Felt we got upsold on the filet beef over the cumin beef. But, whatever it was for out family trip to NYC. Also, we got the young Chow fried rice when white rice was sufficient to quell the spicy fish dish. Cc accepted. Bathrooms are slippery when wet. I almost busted my @ss when I helped walked grandma to the restroom.

Best Chinese food I've ever had. Working in midtown, it's always hard to find a place to get lunch quick without waiting on a line and this place does it for me. You can order online or on Uber eats and have your food super quick. I always get the general tsos lunch special and it's about 10 bucks and comes with a spring roll . They give you SO much food and the meat is actually real and not that weird meat that you sometimes can get when you order general Tsos elsewhere. I need this place to stay open forever so I need everyone to go. Such a hidden gem with the nicest workers.

The food is fantastic always, much authentic than most of the Chinese restaurants. I think very few people know that Wu Liang Ye is operated by the second largest Chinese Liquor Manufacturer, you can have the real Chinese liquor in the restaurant. The chef already works there for more than 15 years.

The place need renovation, sticky carpet and stain filled wall. Our two favorite dishes there had drop in quality, sautéed string bean and whole fish with Sichuan sauces. The Tilapia was over cooked and tough. No waitstaff service, even when my plate was full with fish bones and sauces, there was no offer to change to a clean plate. Not coming back

Wu Liang Ye is one of the more authentic (but expensive) Sichuan restaurants in Manhattan. It's near Rockefeller Center, so it has a prime location. Their 夫妻肺片 husband and wife lung is amazing (it's a cold dish). Numbing spice (not tongue-biting spicy). We had wanted to try their 香辣蟹 (stir fried chili blue crabs) but they didn't have them. Their salt and pepper prawns are good (no shell) though the coating is a bit thick. We also had orange beef (again the coating is quite thick). The price is just so steep. Service is cold with a poker face, as you'd find in many Chinese restaurants. Their food is good though. The environment is generally dirty and untidy. Not inspiring confidence. But then again food is good. (It's above a Five Guys; big red sign outside in Chinese)

Ordered lunch combo. General gow chicken and Kung pao chicken. Both came with spring roll and steamed white rice . The portions were good. Flavors muddled. Bit oversauced and batter falling off the fried chicken. Surprisingly Kung pao chicken had similar saucing and same cuts of chicken with slight breading to them . I had loads of Kung pao chicken before and this version disappointed. Also both had dry chilies in them but I could barely detect any heat. Price was reasonable but wouldn't repeat

I rarely make YELP reviews but I feel that this place deserves it! I work very close, Rockefeller Center, so I have the pleasure of eating here more often than I'd like lol!! Wu Liang Ye is just as amazing as it was 25 years ago when my parents took me. The whole fish is to die for and I brought my son after the US Open in September 2022 and he said he would fly back from California anytime just to goto Wu Liang Ye. It is 100% authentic. I highly recommend!!!!

Our family has been patrons of Wu Liang Ye for over 15 years! Amazing food, and staff greets us here like family. This is the perfect, no-frills restaurant for authentic chinese food - right off the F train and directly across the street from the Nintendo store and Rockefeller tree in the winter! They're also very accommodating to vegetarians (which is usually not the case for authentic chinese restaurants) - I brought a veg eating friend here and they were able to make a ton of modifications to dishes, like singapore rice noodles and even a special soup (when the rest of the table ordered a non-veg soup to share). We recommend the young chow fried rice, dan dan noodles, cold peanut noodles, seafood tofu soup, "green shrimp" (not sure what it's called on the menu lol), and sweet and sour chicken. ALSO, if you're coming here for special occasions, call at least an hour ahead and order their peking duck - SO GOOD! Stop by Wu Liang Ye for a no-frills, tasty, authentic Chinese restaurant that has been around for awhile!

This restaurant is a tiny gem found upstairs of Five Guys. While small, it totally surpassed my expectations. We were a party of 6 on a Tuesday night and we were attended to the whole time. Refilling of water, waiter checking in frequently to see how we were doing, clearing of empty plates. Now onto the best part: the food! Amazing. Everything was cooked to perfection. I unfortunately couldn't take a photo of everything as we were so hungry and the food was so good but the razor clams were delicious. They werent overcooked like many restaurants do which allows the seafood to shine on their own: sweet with that unmistakable clam taste. We got the fried pork dumplings, the vermicelli noodles with pork, 3 szechuan chicken poppers, shrimp with asparagus and mushrooms and tofu and scallops. All were delicious! I highly recommend this restaurant to anyone in manhattan looking for good food! Yes they don't give oranges (as someone noted in their review) but the portions are decently sized for the price and the food was great!

Made a pit stop to NYC during fleet week. I wouldn't call this place a gem because they've been in business for more than 30 years- I'm going to call it a diamond. Hands down the best Chinese I've ever had in my entire life. General Tao's Chicken with a side of white rice- generous portions! It was amazing to see all the service providers interacting with locals calling them by their name and asking about their day. I could just tell this place is a staple. 10/10 from a cuisine standpoint. You won't be disappointed!

The general Tso was tasty, all white meat and not too breaded. The tangerine beef wasn't that good, not crispy and the flavor didn't have any citrus flavors... it's up some stairs so it's A hassle with a stroller, and it's kind of tight, the table Behind us kept hitting me. The cloth table Covers make up for the high price lol

Very conveniently located by Rockefeller center and the tree!! Delicious food and very attentive waiters in a nice quiet environment in the middle of chaotic Rockefeller center. Definitely coming back!!

This is perhaps one of the best Chinese restaurant I have gone in the past couple years. 1. String beans - Who would think the string beans is a great plate to order in Chinese restaurant? But trust me, you need to order this. Stream beans and beef, I think, with soy-based sauce is incredibly good. 2. Dan Dan Noodles - this noodle is fantastic guys. Another must-try dish here. I taste the spice a little strong but overall it was good. 3. Fried rice - it was not dry but very moisty and I like that very much. 4. Chicken and beef dish - they were pretty good but nothing special. One thing that I hated was that the waiter was kept on giving us a look to make us leave. Still gave a reasonable tip though.

No pics of food. The lo main with shrimp is fantastic. Light not greasy and perfect seasoning. Low salt - - love this. The fish soup is wonderful. A good fumet with everything cooked right before being served. Generous portions. Perfect to share but one dish hits the spot. A must if you are by the Rock.
