Best Chinatown Restaurants in Philly | Eater Philly

"One of the first restaurants to bring Northwest Chinese cuisine to Philadelphia, Xian’s Sizzling Woks menu includes cold and hot appetizers, soups, rice, and noodles. Order one of its biang biang noodle (hand-drawn noodles made with wheat flour) soup dishes for a hearty meal; jumbo shrimp with honey walnuts is a sticky delight." - George Banks-Weston

The Best Restaurants In Chinatown

"Everything is solid at Xi'an, but the best thing is the Chinese hamburger, which comes in a few varieties (braised pork, spicy minced pork, or beef). Our favorite is the cumin beef with green pepper and chilies, but they’re all great. The menu also has Western Chinese dishes like some excellent biang biang noodles and spicy sour minced pork noodles, both of which go perfectly with taro milk tea." - candis mclean, alison kessler

Xi’an Sizzling Woks Review - Chinatown - Philadelphia - The Infatuation

"The best thing at Xi'an Sizzling Woks is actually their hamburger. There are three on the menu, all on warm, almost pita-like bread, and the most expensive one is only $4.50. Our favorite is the beef and green pepper burger spiced with chilies and cumin - but they’re all great. The rest of the menu is filled with tons of Western Chinese dishes like the excellent biang biang noodles and the spicy sour minced pork noodles." - Sydney McElwee

Hidden Gem with Amazing Food and Service I’ve always been curious about this place but hesitated to try it because of the exterior—it looks like a takeout spot from the outside. Last week, I finally decided to go in and was pleasantly surprised. Inside, it’s a clean and inviting dine-in restaurant. The restaurant was empty, which made me a little sad, especially after trying the food—it’s unbelievably good! I ordered the Chongqing spicy chicken, scallion pancake, liang pi, and hot and sour soup. Every dish was flavorful and perfectly prepared. The scallion pancake had a uniquely crisp crust, and the hot and sour soup was packed with veggies, button mushrooms, wood ear mushrooms, tofu, and eggs. It was comforting, delicious, and felt healthy—exactly what you need on a cold day. They even offer small and large pot options, which is great for any appetite. Service was phenomenal, and the food arrived quickly. The quality and quantity of food for the price were unbeatable. If you’re in the neighborhood, don’t overlook this spot. It’s a hidden gem that deserves more attention. I’ll definitely be back!

Google
Service was great and food was delicious! Owner took the time to explain the dishes and even gave a brief tutorial on how to use chopsticks.

Google
Highly recommend their Spicy beef noodles. There’s an option to ask them yo remove the spice as well!

Google
Got the Chinese pork hamburger and the liang pi for takeout late at night. It was tasty and felt a bit homemade. The flavor was good, but not particularly notable if you’ve tried other places. More of a soy sauce flavor. The “hamburger” bun was on the bready and soft side. The liang pi was a cold dish. It was on the firmer side and not as chewy. Friend got the pepper chicken which was good and within expectations of Chinese takeout.

Google
Dined here on Chinese New Year Eve. The place was almost empty, so got full attention of the owner who was very friendly. Place was clean. We got chicken noodle soup which was authentic. It was okay. Dumpling in chilli oil was fantastic so was the scallion cake. Inflation induced pricing will bite you. Overal good experience.

Google
It is such a rarity to find Xian food in the us. It was very good and they were kind enough to make something of the menu for me. It was not exactly like it was in country, but I will take it. The Chinese hamburgers are also good. I do suggest asking for additional peppers. Overall, the food was good and the staff were incredible.

Marc Meketon

Google
I confirm what most reviews say: (1) the dining room was nice (and surprisingly empty at 6pm on a Friday), (2) the food was delicious and not your typical Chinese. We had the biang biang noodles, “Chinese hamburger” with minced spicy pork, the chongquin (sp?) chicken, and the bok choy with green soy beans. All were very good. The chicken does not come with a sauce but lots of roasted, crunchy Asian peppers (spicy but not too spicy)

Ansley

Google
The restaurant was very clean and the service was friendly and fast. We got the spicy beef noodle soup, dumplings in chili sauce, and Xi’an Liang Pi because of our server’s recommendation. Everything was delicious, boldly flavored, and fresh.

Yelp
So this is a place I was excited about visiting even before I moved cause where I used to live there was no Xi'an style cuisine. it was something I used to make in culinary school, and at home, but never got too many chances to try it made by a pro aside from traveling. I was not disappointed!! I Came in on a busy Saturday afternoon in the lunch rush, it's a smaller building very clean and makes a good use of space. The ambience is bright but if I was taking a group of more than four I might call ahead. Still I was seated right away, service was FAST and attentive. My compliments to the lovely staff. I had the Chinese Chinese Hamburger with Spicy Minced pork or Rou Jia Mo (I believe is how it's called.) The offer a not spicy braised version as well I'd like to try. This was a majestic sandwich, the spice is very mild making it attractive to anyone. Just a kiss of chili, but nothing serious. It's cut like a pocket for the meat filling to be put inside. The joy is really the mix of well cooked meaty and fatty bits that meld in the bread to become meat magic. You will have a little extra crust of bread, perfect for soaking up some sauce or soup. If I had this at home I might add some Zha Cai or Kim Chi for zing, but it doesn't need it I am just a pickle fiend. I also ordered the Sliced Beef and Tripe with Tendon in Spicy-Hot Sauce which is something I crave whenever I see it on a menu. It's perfect here, just the right amount of chew to awaken your senses. Here the chili spice plays a little more giving you a pleasant tingle and burn. I had to dig in before I took the picture! Don't sleep on this dish. Remember to order white rice with it, rice does not come with dishes. No Alcohol and I didn't ask about BYOB. Something to consider cause this would have been great with a cold beer. Will be a regular here for sure.

Yelp
Wanted to try a different regional Chinese cuisine, and this spot is excellent in specializing in Shaanxi-style dishes. I ordered two of their most popular items via delivery: the Chinese Hamburger and their Biang Biang Noodles. Unfortunately, my food arrived a bit colder than expected. I'm confident it would be tastier ordering in the restaurant itself, however. The bun for the 'hamburger' was still tasty, but the minced pork could've used a bit more salt. I wish there was a bit more bok choy in the noodles as well, but the flavor profile was great. The ginger scallion sauce didn't feel overpowering, and my noodles were tasty and had the consistency you expect. Overall, I do think my order directly was a bit hampered as a result of the delivery process but the food was still flavorful and I'd try another signature dish if I tried the restaurant again.

Yelp
A decent spot if you're craving some spicy dishes! The wontons in chili oil were quite tasty. Biang biang noodles were so-so, could have used more flavor but I did like that it contained some leafy greens - not sure if this is because I ordered delivery and it may be better in person? Food arrived quickly.

Yelp
I normally go to this place for lunch take-out, and the food is usually decent and priced fair. However, I don't think I'll be going back after the terrible customer service experience I had today. I placed an online order (through the restaurant's website) for a scheduled pick-up time. I arrived at the restaurant at the exact time my order was scheduled to be picked up, only to discover that my order had not even been put in and was not prepared. The woman at the front counter didn't speak English too well, and it was clear she sat on multiple online orders that had come in and did not send them to the kitchen. Even when I walked in there was no one at the restaurant and the woman didn't even acknowledge me as she was too busy looking at something behind the counter. There was no apology or explanation for my order not being put in and prepared by the scheduled pick-up time, and I ended up waiting an additional 20 minutes for my food - which was an issue because I was late to a work meeting as a result. If a business messes up, at least have the decency to have some accountability, acknowledge the mistake, and apologize.

Yelp
Best food for a great price! Authentic Chinese food! The service might be a little difficult sometimes because of the language barrier but it is worth it! If you pay cash, sometimes they give a discount.

Yelp
One of the more underrated and skipped restaurants of Chinatown considering it is on the outskirts. This restaurant specializes in dishes native to Xi'an, a city/capital of Shaanxi Province in Central China. Famous dishes from this region include biangbiang noodles, Chinese meat burgers, Liangpi noodles. Came in late Friday night around 9 pm to an empty restaurant. I've here a few times so ordering was quick and painless. Went with the Chef's recommended number 5 Sautéed Spicy Chicken Noodle and the Vegetable number 5 Roasted eggplant with garlic sauce. There were two of us and we weren't too hungry and ended up taking some to go home. Both dishes tasted fine. I just wished the chicken noodle dish was spicier as advertised. I can't speak on authenticity of the dishes, but I have been here with some friends from China and they approved.

Sofia P.

Yelp
Great liang pi and burger! Service was quick and the food was super affordable. Portions are on the smaller side.

Christopher P.

Yelp
they told us that the food was small so we got it and they were not stop insisting us and then they came out with a big bowl and it cost too much. they are very rude and the food took forever to get here. They were recording us While we were eating.

Yelp
There will be many disappointments you will encounter in life for me ordering take out from Xi'an Sizzling Woks was one of them. BBQ Lamb Skewers - first time in my life I literally ran the skewers under water to get rid of the seasoning. The menu does not state this being a spicy item however this is so spicy you will be spitting like a camel after you take a bite no joke. Sour and Spice Tofu - This did not sit well with me literally. Really messed up my stomach and again there was no denotation next to the item on the menu showing this would be spicy. Wonton Soup - We have all experienced Wonton Soup that has broth that taste like dish water right? Well if you haven't order the Wonton Soup here. The Wontons themselves were not awful but the broth unedible for me. I do want to mention it may just be my taste bud preference on the BBQ Lamb as when I ran it over water the Lamb itself did taste very good when I went back to it the next day, I just couldn't eat it with the seasoning.

Yelp
Going to Xian Sizzling Wok you gotta order the Xi'an liang pi, biang biang noodles and the Chinese hamburger. It's what they are good for. The restaurant is a good addition to Chinatown. Brings about another cuisine from yet another part of China. I don't have to go to China or New York City for a good Xi'an Liang Pi. It's probably the only place in Philly where you can get Xi'an food.

Yelp
Disappointed with some items a cumen beef hamburger was thin on the meat, spicy beef noodles, was a lot of heat, but lacked in flavor, pita bread soaked in lamb soup not a flavor hit either. The Dan Dan noodles that we ordered were good, as were the dry sautéed string beans. Cold chili oils noodles left me cold.

Yelp
Xi'an Sizzling Woks is an unexpected love of mine. I came here after my friend told me that they have the best spicy beef noodles in Philly Chinatown. Their noodles are really great!!! The noodles taste and look like they're made in-house or at the very least, locally. They have a great chewy, smooth, and yummy texture and taste. The soup broth was teeming with flavor. I loved the little bits of vegetables, meat, and other ingredients. It was like a bowl of delicious, homemade noodle soup. The portion was enormous! My friend and I shared it with two appetizers and it was more than enough. We also ordered the Xi'an Liang Pi and the Tea Smoked Duck. The Liang Pi was not something we were familiar with and when it came, it wasn't what we expected at all. However, it was quite good once we passed the initial impression. The duck was delicious and smokey. It had a great deal of meat, unlike many of the other tea smoked ducks we've tried. Definitely going back for more one day! The staff was nice and more than willing to answer any questions we had. However, we did not appreciate that they began to mop the floor while we were still eating. The smell itself overpowered our food and we quickly left after that. All and all, the food is really good and worth trying if you're in the area.

Yelp
First time at Xi'an Sizzling Woks and I'm not impressed. I have never been to any Chinese restaurant that does not include rice with a "rice dish" especially when that dish cost 16.00. I found this to be so unacceptable that I refused to add the rice to my order and instead went home and made my own. That should never happen. As for the food I ordered, it left much to be desired. I have had this dish many times in many places. Whether they call it Chongqing Chicken, La Zi Ji or simply Chicken with dry hot peppers you should expect certain elements to be present. Crispy chunks of fried chicken, a heaping pile of peppers, sliced scallions and garlic and sesame seeds. I got chicken and peppers but the rest was noticeably absent and very much missed. The chicken was prepared nicely enough but the flavor was not consistent across each bite. Some morsels were a little salty while others had a more sweet taste which I somehow preferred. The spring rolls were good but that is simply not enough. This is definitely a one and done for me.

Yelp
For the folks thinking this is an authentic Xi'an food place, you are wrong. They looks like it but doesn't taste like it. The taste of the foods were very bland and noodles were over cooked . And apparently you can't order a little bit spicy from the server because it's "too much trouble " so you can put chili sauce yourself. I did order the Chinese burger once and it was Okay, but the recent visit wasn't pleasant. 東西很淡沒什麼味道,鹽巴調味不夠。麵條煮太久快軟到爛掉。

Judith P.

Yelp
Love it Really good Xian Chinese food The chef make sure the food is perfect..hot.. and made for you..spices.. salt My fave Chinese restaurant

Yelp
Came here after the flower show. Saw the reviews and heard that this place was really good. I was very impressed by the food! The interior of the restaurant was not too impressive because it's more of a Chinese takeout joint. My boyfriend and I ordered some of the popular dishes which I forgot the name of and don't remember how to spell it either, woops. Definitely coming back here! I love spicy food so if you love "Chinese" culture spicy food then this is the place.

V. K.

Yelp
Fast, inexpensive and delicious. Better than it looks from appearances. The special steamed noodles is the much better version of pork li main you didn't know you needed.

Yelp
Today it is 10/16, pouring down raining at around 2 PM. I made the terrible mistake of ordering out again because I truly enjoyed the food from here So....I place an order similar to the one I'd had the day prior (my total was also similar). delivery was over an hour away. When the delivery driver arrived at my door, he handed me a balled up piece of paper with what appeared to be my receipt. Inside of the paper (also balled up) was $1.76. This was confusing because I hadn't even given him any money yet. (I had two $20 bills in my hand to give him in exchange for the food but still hadn't given it to him yet) Now what's strange is that when I called the restaurant, I was informed that my total was $25. But when the delivery driver arrived, he said it was $30. When I finally looked at the crumbled up wet paper, I saw that the total was actually $28.24 including tax and delivery fee. After viewing the receipt and confirming that it was the correct receipt and order, I proceeded to hand him my $40 cash. He assumed I didn't want any change back at all and almost walked away with a tip of $11.76 But before he could fully trip me up, I asked him to give me change for my cash. He opens his wallet and says he doesn't have any. All he has is one $5 bill. I ask him what type of delivery driver walks about without change? And before he could even answer me, I handed him back his balled up receipt and the $1.76 he had given me. I take my $40 cash and I proceed to the corner store next door to make change for my bills. He stands at my door and looks on in disbelief. As if I was supposed to just hand over $11 extra dollars for my meal naturally. Lol smh When I arrived back at my door I handed him the $30 cash plus $1 for a tip leaving his tip at $2.76 ( being as though the total was $29.24). I politely asked him to hand me my food. He hesitated, almost holding the bag hostage for a moment before finally handing it to me. He then huffed at me and said, "huh? What's this? They told me you would give me $5!?" "I don't work for them I'm doing them a favor!!!" I said, "excuse me!? I maybe would have given you a better tip if you didn't just try to take it from me" ***Now, as a career server, I know how we sometimes assume that a guest has a pattern and think they may pay the same way and TIP the same thing most, if not all or the time. That may or may not always be true. In this case, He made the mistake of assuming he was going to get ALL of my change as his tip, or at least the same $5 tip I had given the previous driver. (They may have even coerced him to help them with delivery by telling him that I will tip well. Which they can't even judge because I only ever ordered from them ONE time.) When I originally called the restaurant I was told over the phone that my total was $25. My order consisted of, 1 order of scallion pancakes, 2 fried spring rolls, fried wontons with crab and cheese, and a tofu general tso. But when the delivery driver came to my door he told me that my total was $30 then proceeded to try and take my entire $40 for the trip smh. . Smh lmao I never felt so insulted in my life. I said to this person that he is lucky he got the $2.76 he got and that his service was horrible. And THATS NOT THE BEST PART!!!!! . About 10 minuets after I slam my door in his face and head upstairs to enjoy my yummy meal, I receive a freakin TEXT MESSAGE FROM THIS MAN that reads, " Thank you for your verbal abuse and just to let you know I did this for my courtesy bc they ask me to help so I'm sorry if I make you up set "don't worried I forgive you and GOD in JESUS name bless you always" SMMFH WHAAAAAAAAATTTTT!?!?? , I thought, Lmao smh sooooo I verbally abused you because I gave you HALF of the $5 you THOUGHT you were going to get out of me!? Bye sir!!!! So I kindly texted back, " You are lucky you even got a tip from me. I don't believe in Jesus. You can take your well wishes and hopefully your life improves enough that you don't need to force people to tip you as you struggle to make ends meet delivering food. Horrible service!!! " and then I said.. "And never did I say anything wrong to you. All I did was tell you that you weren't getting a five dollar tip. You got $2.75 and you better thank your precious Jesus you even got that!!! The nerve!!" Soooooooooo needless to say... never doing that again and if I ever spend another penny at this place it will not be delivery. As many years as I've worked in hospitality I have never!!! Trash. Total trash service. Better to just not take too many orders if you can't handle the load than to have me waiting an hour and a half for a delivery that's only 3miles away AND THEN have to be harassed by some weirdo. Smmfh

Yelp
Pork mandarin sauce egg noodles have nothing to do with the picture, not authentic. Fish fillet with tofu is full of tofu, a few slices of fish. Not recommend. Waste of money.
google avatar

Jessica J.

Yelp
Very very very disappointed. Liangpi is very thick, and sauce is lack of flavor. Chili oils are almost without oil, only bad quality chilies. Xinjiang chicken, which they claimed their feature dish, seemed to be leftovers of a big batch. Flavor is okay, but it was cold when served. When we asked to warm it for us, it seems they put it in a microwave and returned it. Only the most outer layer is warm, the middle are still cold. We also ordered a stir fried veggie, worst among nearby restaurants. The waitress also the boss even reminded us to tip her in case we forgot. I regretted that we did tip her. We spent around $60 for such a terrible meal and service. Will never return. Worst experience ever.

Yelp
I'm a big fan of Xi'an cuisine. I've been coming here for years and have had mixed experiences with the food and service, but it has generally been positive. Highlights: -Noodle dishes. I like the soup noodle dishes more than the Biang Biang noodles -Chinese Chives pie -Chinese hamburger 肉夹馍 Ok: -Cold noodles -Dumplings in Chili oil -Biang Biang noodles. They're ok but not great

Yelp
I got the liang pi, biang biang noodles, and lamb skewers to-go. Overall all of them were pretty average (3.5 stars). I've had much more flavorful biang biang noodles elsewhere, and both liang pi and lamb skewers were okay but nothing special. Not sure if it's because maybe they had to rush to make our food -- I had called to order beforehand, but when I got there to pick up the food they realized they forgot to send the order to the kitchen so they told me to come back in 10 min.
google avatar

Michael F.

Yelp
Average food covered by below average service. I don't want to be too rough with this review, but I feel I'm being generous with a 3-star rating. We walked in and were directed to open seats. Well, they pointed to a clean table. We sat and waited. Another couple walked in, were properly seated and given menus. Mine you, we didn't have menus yet so asked. We were told we'd have to wait until they finished with them. So of course, they ordered first, and their food arrived ahead of ours... We split a Chinese Hamburger (Spicy Minced Pork), Pita Bread Soaked In Lamb & Beef Soup, and a Biang Biang Noodles In Lamb & Beef Soup. They did split the burger for us in half, but it was just eh. I really enjoyed the Pita Bread Soup (saving Xi'an from a 2 star), but it really didn't have a lot of meat. I barely saw any meat in the Biang Biang soup, and found it to also be merely average. I'll give them that the prices are fair. Not an extreme deal for Chinatown, but nothing to complain about there. The restaurant was also clean. Overall, I don't think I'll be making a return trip, but if I did, it would be for the Pita Bread soup only.

Yelp
This is a small place in Chinatown. From the outside it doesn't look like a big. Once inside there's about 10-15 tables for parties of 4. And there's is one bathroom in the back. This restaurant has a mom and pop feel to it. The menu has pictures and prices are reasonable. Most dishes are 6-13$. The service wasn't that great as they never refilled our water unless we flagged them down. The other inconvenience is they brought out all of our food at different times. So some people had to start eating while everyone else waited for their food. The portions are a good size and the food is delicious I would just like if there was better service.
google avatar

Minji S.

Yelp
I would rate this place 3.5 but yelp doesn't give 0.5. I went here with my friends before the attending the Chinese Lantern Festival. If you have a ticket to the festival, you will get 15% off your meal. (Disclaimer: this is valid for 2019. I cannot guarantee this for other years). The outside does look a bit sketchy but the interior is a lot better. There are plenty of tables to sit and chat. There is a decent selection of food to choose from, so there is something for everyone. The service was okay. They gave me the menu, took the order, and gave me the correct food. However it did take some time to get the attention of our servers for anything else other than that such as refilling water or extra utensils. The food itself was okay as well. I heard good reviews about the spicy beef noodle soup, so that is what I personally ordered. I felt it was overhyped. It was just regular noodles with a flavour kick to it. It was a decent experience with average food. It's not a bad place for food but it won't be my first choice.

Yelp
Order to pick up in quarantine time. I'm Vietnamese and I had Liang Pi the first time when I came to Xinjiang visiting one of my Chinese friends and I fell in love with This delightful dish. I believe that each place in China makes Liang Pi slightly different but I do love the taste that the restaurant makes it. I can't find anywhere else to satisfy my craving for Liang Pi in Philly except for this place. Liang Pi is highly recommended!

Yelp
Update: I wanted to have some good hot and sour soup today, being in so tired of the cold and all. I work near Chinatown, so I have a lot of choices to choose from. I thought Xi'an sizzling wok would be a great place to try that since I already know their noodle soups are fantastic already. I ordered a quart of hot and sour soup, and then their lunch menu deals which are pretty basic stuff like general tso with fried rice, caught my eye. So I also got myself sweet and sour chicken with fried rice. $12 total was not too bad! I just wish they can notify me via app or call to say it's ready. That's the only thing. ---------------------------------------------- Besides the fact that it seemed slightly awkward while I waited and the waitresses talked amongst theirselves, I ordered the Spicy Sour Minced Pork Noodles (soup). They pack it to go for me, and it was done very, very well. I went back to my apartment which took 45 minute due to the snow today and by the time I got back, my soup was still pretty warm! Perfect for warming up after being very cold outside. The pack the noodles separate from the soup, very neat, and the soup didn't even spill out or anything. I was impressed how delicious the soup was! Noodles went well with it too. It's more on the oily side, probably from chilly oil and maybe the pork fat (though I found the minced pork to not be very fat), so maybe that's why it seems so comforting and wonderful lol. It is definitely a great warm comfort meal. I would love to try their Chinese hamburger next time, which I hear is very popular.

Gg Z.

Yelp
Ordered a bunch of Chinese hamburgers for take out. Although the flavors good There's hardly any meat and it's only on half of the bread. Did not order these to just eat bread. Please open the bread folly and fill up the meat every Burger in the order was like.

Yelp
Having heard about this place from a few friends. Today finally made it there with my parents. We ordered the Xi'an Liang PI and the spicy sour minced pork noodle. We all prefer the Liang PI, although we added extra vinegar and spicy sauce by ourselves. The noodle was okay for us, not a fan of it.

Yelp
The restaurant food is classic Northwest China style food, especially the chicken with noodles. Also, the marinated meat in baked bun is delicious. Highly recommended!

Yelp
Delicious Xi'an food that is authentic and affordable. Given that I don't live at home so Chinese food is a rarity, it may have tasted 10x better to me but nonetheless, I enjoyed the spicy sour noodles, liangpi and the sauteed string beans which were perfectly crispy. Also, the lamb burger was decent - although I've had better. Service is also pretty good since they are quick and attentive. Definitely worth a try !

Yelp
The only place in Philly area I can get Xi An food. I love their Liang Pi definitely tastes authentic and delicious. The lamb burgers are alright the meat is not as quality and not a lot of meat either.

Yelp
My favorite spot in Chinatown. It's small and it's on the edge so maybe you thought about not going but trust me this place is a delight. My two favorite dishes here are the: 1-Spicy Cumin Beef - which is less spicy than aggressively cuminy but overall wholly delicious. We all kind I'd throw around the phrase "bold flavor" but this is really a flavor that stands up and screams at you "I AM CUMIN" 2- Chicken with potatoes and noodles- this originally fascinated me solely because I can't think of many times I have seen potatoes in Chinese cooking. This thing is enormous and delicious. Small pieces of bone in chicken, potatoes and broad noodles in a spicy oil sauce. It's a bit complicated to eat. The bones are hard to deal with, the sauce gets everywhere and the noodle is unwieldy and hard to cut but bonnet of that matters because it tastes so good.

Yelp
Similar to roti canai, if you exchanged the noodles for roti. I'd say medium spicy. They leave the skin and bone attached, which isn't my preference. Also, there were small bone pieces in the curry. The portion was large, but the proportions of noodle:curry were more similar curry/noodle soup, than a noodle dish. Overall, not my favorite, but may be more representative of authentic Chinese cuisine

Yelp
I opted to try out this restaurant to satisfy my curiosity for xian foods, and this place made a pretty good first impression. The only criticism I have for their dishes is that they tend to be in the salty side, however the quality of the food does not falter. I really enjoyed the biang biang noodles and the scallion pancake but I definitely couldn't finish a whole portion of either dishes because of the saltiness. The Chinese cheeseburger is also pretty good, but the skewers i also ordered felt too overly powdered. Will update my review if I get a different impression following a different visit.

Yelp
I've come to this place a few times and have always left satisfied. Most recently, I came here when I only had around half an hour to sit down and grab lunch. I ordered the cumin beef lunch special under the suggestion of one of the waiters and thought the beef was tender and tasty. I've been here two other times for dinner and while none of the dishes were mindblowingly delicious, I thought the food here was really authentic and decently priced. Portion size for lunch was good, but I remember the other dishes I got for dinner being much larger. I'm sure it varies depending on what you get. Also, quick and friendly service. I see myself going here in the future again.

Yelp
As you can see from my previous reviews I'm a big fan of the Biang Biang noodles. And all things said, everything I've ever gotten from the place is good. Today I ordered the Biang Biang for delivery. I put in an order in advance as I am working in an office , and put a time of " 4:15pm" and ordered it at 2:00pm. I got a call around 3:00pm asking if we wanted the delivery at 4:15pm or now. I told the lady we needed it at 4:15pm because we do not have an allotted lunch break until then. The delivery arrived promptly at 4:15pm which was much appreciated -- however, take a look at my newly uploaded biang biang noodles pictures. Every noodle is stuck together. I can pick up the whole bowl with one swoop of chopsticking. Either the noodles were not made fresh to delivery at 4:15pm and that's why they are stuck together ( which is what I suspect) or.. don't order this for delivery.

Yelp
I love liang pi-- it's spicy and refreshing and has such a satisfying texture in the mouth. This is my favorite place to get it and I even came once just to get liang pi after eating at another restaurant. They also had hot 豆浆 to drink which was perfect on the chilly day we came, as well as a great complement to the spicy foods. Ordering three dishes and two cups of 豆浆 was also pretty affordable to boot!

Yelp
Sometimes I gave 5-star not because the food, but the memory. The roujiamo is good, comparable to NYC xi'an restaurant. 凉皮 is ok- I feel like need something else in it but not sure what should be May be color spicy. 油泼面 is good too. I parked in a space nearby- when we drove out- it is 1 hr and 1 min so have to pay an extra few bucks.

Yelp
We ordered the chives pie, spicy cucumbers and pita soaked in lamb soup. So freaking good! We thought we'd died and gone to heaven over the cucumbers. Wish we had ordered at least one more. (1 easily serves 2 ppl but they are soooo good) The pita in soup- yum. Didn't care for the big mushrooms, but the flavors and textures were delish. Perfect for the cold winter weather we are having now. Can't want to come back to Philly to order again.

Yelp
I had a craving for some not-so-healthy, food court-style Chinese food. The kind of stuff we referred to as "crunchy chicken" as kids. I know many of the reviews for this restaurant focus on some of the more traditional plates, but Xi'an Sizzling Woks came through for my basic cravings all the same. First off, I would have felt like a total loser if I didn't at least order something traditional/raved about in reviews. So I opted for the noodles with ginger scallion sauce. Unfortunately, I think these are probably best when ordered for dine-in. They were a bit dry and my husband didn't like them much at all. I was fine with them but they are the lone remaining item in the fridge. We also ordered (please reserve judgement at this time): egg rolls, scallion pancakes, general tso's chicken and garlic chicken. 1990 called and I was there to answer. In my opinion, this was the best Chinese takeout I've had in a while. Everything was packaged so nicely - no spills, and there were sauce packets, chopsticks and fortune cookies. The food tasted exactly how I hoped - hot and crispy, sinful and satisfying. I don't think my husband was as big a fan as me, but I was pretty happy with the order. I ordered via Eat24 and the delivery was roughly on time and prices were better than other spots I've ordered from in the recent past. I've already recommended the biz to another Yelper and will likely order from Xi'an again in the future.

Yelp
The food was very authentic Xi'an traditional food. Noodles, Chinese hamburger and tofu were all great. The lamb skewers could be seasoned better though.

Yelp
It's fine for takeout Chinese. They try to be more authentic than an American Chinese takeout. They have cumin lo mein and rice noodles and spicy cucumber, etc. The thing is that there are better places in Philly like Dan Dan. It just seemed to be lacking something.

Yelp
Craving for Xi An Famous Food, I chose to try this place out. Two of us came for dinner during the week, and it was not crowded. We ordered two Cumin Beef Hamburgers, Xi'an Liang Pi, cucumber and lamb skewers (6 in one dish). The beef hamburger was delicious. The skewers were alright and I probably won't order them next time. Looking forward to another visit. I will try their noodles next time.

One of my favorite Chinese restaurants in University city. The prices are great and the food is unique and amazing. 价廉物美。The desserts here are amazing too, With authentic Xian style twists.

Yelp
Delicious! Im glad Yelp led us here as we were in the mood for some authentic xian eats. This was comparable to our limited but previous really good experience with the cuisine in NYC. The portions weren't as big as we expected coming in cold and hungry but it was a good meal. The cumin lamb skewers were well cooked but just felt light portion-wise for the cost. The piping fresh spicy biang biang noodles (with garlic scallion) were great. I didn't do the best job mixing up the dish as it comes out pre-constructed with individual spices in different parts of the bowl but it worked out well as we were feeling a little spiced out by the end of the meal and appreciating the blander pieces of noodles :D I liked the hamburger a lot but again wish the portion of meat was a little bit more. Efficient service with food coming out fast. Definitely a nice new experience in china town.
