The 38 Best Restaurants in Taipei | Eater

"One stretch along Fuxing South Road is famous for its row of late-night eateries, popular with revelers and nocturnal diners. The most beloved institution dishes up congee, a savory rice porridge, with a lavish buffet spread offering staples like cabbage sauteed with garlic, and Taiwanese delicacies like duck blood stewed with salted mustard greens. As the evening progresses the vibe shifts from a family hang into a prime spot for watching Taiwan’s rowdy night-owls. [$]" - Clarissa Wei

Google
Unlimited porridge at 30NT per pax. Good selection of dishes. Will be wonderful if they have more choices of steamed fish. Overall, great dinner.

This is what you need if you want variety, vegetables and home cooked meal on your own or with friends. The base course is porridge which is a thing really as a backdrop for the dishes you want to eat. Almost like a blank canvas. The left side is vegetarian dishes. The right is for everyone else. They also do dishes made to order.

This is a great spot for a late-night dinner or just maybe a regular meal. You can pick your food from the selection or order some extras, like an omelette to go with your porridge. The taste is quite good—I personally enjoyed it a lot. They offer a variety of choices like fish, pork, and fried veggies. Just make sure to tell them how many people are eating, so they can adjust the portions for you. I came here after a night of drinking at a bar, and I loved the atmosphere. Everyone was enjoying their food and chatting, which made the vibe really lively and fun. Trust me, the hot porridge suits your cravings for warm food after being tipsy. This has become one of my favorite places. I’m giving it 5 stars for the food and atmosphere combined!

Food was ok, can consider tasty but not for all dishes. What I like was some dishes serve hot. Good for a supper place.

🌟 During my recent trip to Taipei, I stumbled upon Xiaolizi Rice Porridge 小李子清粥小菜, and it turned out to be a hidden gem! Located in a quaint neighborhood, this restaurant offers a cozy atmosphere that immediately made me feel at home. The friendly staff welcomed me with warm smiles, setting the tone for a delightful dining experience. 😃 🍲 The menu at Xiaolizi Rice Porridge is a treasure trove of traditional Taiwanese dishes, with the rice porridge being the star of the show. I opted for the classic pork and century egg porridge, and it did not disappoint. The porridge was perfectly seasoned, with a smooth and creamy texture that was incredibly comforting. Each bite was a harmonious blend of flavors, making it a perfect meal for any time of day. 🥣 🍽️ What truly sets Xiaolizi Rice Porridge apart is the variety of side dishes available. I tried the pickled vegetables, braised tofu, and stir-fried greens, all of which were fresh and delicious. The portions were generous, and the prices were very reasonable, making it an excellent choice for travelers on a budget. The overall experience at Xiaolizi Rice Porridge was delightful, and I highly recommend it to anyone visiting Taipei. 😊

Yelp
Not sure why the bad reviews but I really enjoyed the food here. Apparently its everyones go to place for after drinking or late night snacks. The food is displayed and you just choose what you want to eat or heat up. After that, you sit on a table and they give you some porridge too. Wide selection of food that tastes good for it being 2am. Rowdy inside as you can imagine and not the tidiest but you're here to sober up with food anyway.

Yelp
This was our go-to place for years if we need late night snacks or suffered the jet lag munchies. Always loves the food and the unlimited porridge. However, our most recent visit wasn't quite as pleasant. The portions are significantly and noticeably smaller and the service was less than stellar. As we always get lots of dishes, the server didn't allow us to take a slightly larger table, but directed the four of us to squeeze in a little corner with 4 chairs that barely had enough food for our food. We supported them through times when their business was suffering, but I think we'll be looking for other go-to place for next time.

Yelp
The only 清粥小菜 around here that's still alive. It's quite expensive but you get free parking and very good quality food + service. My go-to restaurant for dinner on typhoon day. Wide selection of food. Also a popular location after clubbing apparently.

Yelp
Open late! Great no frills option for quick sit down dinner if you're getting in from a late flight or hungry after bar or club hopping. You get a pot of rice porridge with sweet potato for the table and order a bunch of sides from a hot plate type setup. Super filling comfort food, I appreciate that you can get a bunch of veggies in if you want. I generally recommend trying a bunch of stuff including the garlic cucumber, thousand year egg with tofu, peanuts, chili chicken, eggplant, cabbage, tomato scrambled egg, etc.

Yelp
Apparently this is the joint to got late at night after heavy drinking. There's a wide variety of menu items, And everything was pretty decent. I'd come here again. The pride we got was not seasoned. Not sure I'd that's the style or that's all their porridges there. Something to keep in mind.

Yelp
"THE place to enjoy left over food" This restaurant (and every congee place near by) starts their day like this: around 9am the cooks start to prepare the food in the back alley, where they also use to store the compost from last night. They bring out the food around 11 to sit on the buffet steamers. Most of the dishes will sit there all the way pass midnight. Oh, then they charge customers a huge premium over stir-fried places because their food are "fresh made and healthy". THE place to go for if you enjoy left over and unsanitary food.

Yelp
My parents like coming here for dinner but I am not the big fan because some dishes are super greasy and the price is a bit high. The congee or rice (at ur choice) are free refill. You can order fried eggs, egg dishes and veggies on site as well. Cook by order.

Yelp
This is a good spot of Taiwanese style congee. This place has been around for a while and it's known for opening till 5am and its varieties of dishes. It's a pick your dish style. On the right side is non vegetarian and left side is vegetarian. They will portion each dish based on your party size ( they do have single person servings too ), most 2 person portion dishes are around $70-$80 NTD. Once you select your dishes, you can grab a seat on the second floor where they will bring you the congee ( with yam!). The congee is unlimited refills and it's only $20 NTD per person. My favorites are : braise pork belly, egg and tomatoes, soft tofu ( by large pieces). But everything is just really good, you can't go wrong here.

Yelp
Dirty. 骯髒. The customer service is terrible. I got a rash from touching their table. Smells of stinky tofu and is not very suitable for the uninitiated in Chinese stinky cuisine. Food isn't fresh.
