Yakitori Nishi - Review - Lomita - Los Angeles - The Infatuation

"Yakitori Nishi is as straightforward as it gets. This wood-filled strip mall spot in Lomita serves traditional yakitori, plus a handful of appetizers like miso soup and braised pork stomach with ponzu. All of the meat skewers (with the exception of pork belly and quail egg) are chicken: thigh, gizzard, heart, chicken meatballs, you name it. Round out your stick-filled meal with a few vegetable skewers on the menu, including eggplant, okra, and shishito pepper. We haven’t been here yet, but want you to know this spot exists." - Sylvio Martins

I had such a great experience at this yakitori spot! Every skewer was perfectly grilled—crispy on the outside, juicy and flavorful on the inside. The chicken thigh and tsukune (meatball) were especially good, and the tare sauce had just the right balance of sweet and savory. The atmosphere was warm and welcoming, with an authentic izakaya vibe. The staff were friendly and attentive, and the service was fast. They also had a nice selection of sake and Japanese beer that paired perfectly with the food. Highly recommend this place if you’re craving quality yakitori and a chill, tasty night out. I’ll definitely be coming back!

Google
Sooooo delicious. I must say, Yakitori Nishi is one of the best yakitori spots I’ve been to in SoCal. In my opinion, this place does chicken exceptionally well. The chicken skewer was flavorful and tender, and the sauce added a rich, deep complexity to the dish. The tsukune? Mind-blowing. Those meatballs packed a ton of flavor — absolutely sensational. To my surprise, the okra and shiitake mushrooms weren’t bland either. They were seasoned to perfection, with an irresistible smoky, charred taste from the grill. The rice ball was a great addition to the meal. Overall, I love this place and will definitely be back.

Although we were never a huge fan of chicken, I have to say the Yakitori (grilled bird) tasted great. I like the simple seasoning, some with only salt, and how tender the chicken was prepared. The chicken meatball was particularly impressive with its flavor and tenderness! The only two non bird proteins weren’t impressive: pork belly felt too greasy with the simple seasoning while the steak could be more tender. The restaurant was small, the setting was cozy, and all the tables were Japanese except us which tells us how authentic it is. The only downside is they have a restriction of 2-hour dine in time so more customers could come. We were hinted a couple of times to finish on time so we didn’t have enough time to hang out with our friends.

I wanted to treat my girlfriend to something new and found this restaurant to have great reviews on Google, so I brought her here. The sauce that goes with the chicken skewer added a creamy, richness taste. The grilled okras and shiitake mushrooms were seasoned to perfection, with an irresistible smoky, charred taste from the grill. To complete our meal, I ordered rice balls, which were superb. We didn’t realize this would be a great find for a food adventure. Everything was delectable, and the service crew was friendly and quick. We will definitely come back.

Google
This authentic yakitori spot on PCH in the South Bay is run by Japanese chefs who cook every skewer to order, right in front of you. The Tsukune (chicken meatball) and Atsuage (fried tofu) are standout dishes, and a bottle of sake, recommended by the owner’s wife, was the perfect pairing. The food is high-quality, though some skewers could be more consistent. I did feel like some skewers can be charred or seasoned better. Service is friendly and fast, and the place has a newly renovated, relaxed vibe. Prices are fair (around $80 per person, and we left stuffed). Be sure to ask about off-menu specials, and make a reservation to avoid waiting at this cozy spot. I do recommend checking it out!

Absolutely delicious! Succulent yakitori. We ordered several negima (sauced chicken thigh), sasami (chicken tender) wasabi (it comes on the side), tsukune (meatball), tebasaki (wings), Hatsune (chicken heart), zuri (gizzard), uzura (quail egg), shiitake mushroom, nasu (eggplant), fried tofu, grilled rice ball, and pork and vegetables miso soup. Highly recommend this place. Kokuryu sake was sooo good. Reasonable price. Excellent service. Love that they can drink with you.

Google
My favorite yakitori spot in SoCal. Everything is always so delicious and great friendly service. The tail and the heart are some of the best bites of food I have ever had. Cannot wait to come back many times!

Google
It was super delicious! You can experience a Japanese yakitori restaurant. The number of items on the menu really makes it seem like an old-fashioned Japanese yakitori restaurant. The yakitori was delicious, and I was happy to see pork trotters, a dish unique to Kyushu. There are more and more yakitori restaurants now, but this was one of the best in Los Angeles! They seemed to be able to accommodate families and speak Japanese. The servers were attentive and provided courteous Japanese service.

Yelp
Everything was great and above any other yakitori places in LA / OC. My favorite was chicken thigh, bonbochi (really fatty chicken tail), chicken liver, and deep fried tofu (atsuage). Must try!!! If you like Japanese sake, there is a lot of varieties. Atmosphere was great, reminds me when I was in Japan. Service was also great!

Yelp
This is the best yakitori place in LA! We know, as we've tried them all. Shin Shen gumi, torimatsu, etc. aren't even in the same league! The meat quality is top notch! The way the meat is cooked and the seasoning is on the same level of a yakitori restaurant in Japan. The location is on the small end, so make sure to make a reservation. I always say Mini Kebab in Glendale is a near religious experience for Armenian BBQ. I can say the food at Yakitori Nishi is a near religious experience for Japanese yakitori in LA.

Yelp
I guess you can say I was raised on yakitori in Gardena which is pretty casual and relatively boisterous. My son was visiting from school and we wanted yakitori without going out to Gardena. I found Yakitori Nishi in a small mall near a Harbor Freight and a massage place. This spoke casual to me and that's how we came in. That felt like a miscalculation as most people there looked to be more business casual than our jeans and hoodies. The folks who came in looked to be respectful of the experience. If you want to be in a mood to be loud, this may not be your stop. The hostess asked if we made a reservation and I felt "oops" this may be awkward. However, I'm glad I was wrong and it was a very enjoyable meal. More warm and intimate than my other yakitori meals. After a brief wait, the hostess seated us and was nice and attentive through our stay. We had various chicken dishes, scallops, mushrooms, the baked potato and shishito peppers and all were wonderful. The chicken and scallops were the best yakitori style dishes I've had! The menu is a bit more limited than I've seen before, but the execution was tip top. We had a couple of Japanese beers, but it looked like they had a pretty good bar. Parking was easy as well. I look forward to a return.

Yelp
I recently discovered Yakitori Nishi while searching for new yakitori spots, and I'm so glad I gave it a try! Their menu is simple and straightforward, but everything I ordered was incredibly delicious. I had the chicken thighs, chicken heart, two chicken tenders with freshly grated wasabi, shiitake mushrooms, two pork belly skewers, and shared a rice ball and potato with butter. The highlight of the meal was definitely the chicken tenders with wasabi--the chicken was perfectly moist, and the freshly grated wasabi added an amazing touch. It was also wonderful to learn that the restaurant is family-owned by a husband-and-wife duo. I'll definitely be coming back!

Yelp
Amazing!!! Everything I ate was soo yummy. My favorite yakitori was the chicken thigh and green onion. The pork belly, okra and chicken tender with wasabi was also delicious as well. Oh and please make sure to try the yuzu sauce in the little jar they have with the condiments on the table. It's spicy but has an amazing flavor that goes well with everything. Service was great and the yakitori is brought out fresh to order. Restaurant is a bit small but is very cozy. There are about 4 tables and several seats at the bar available. Enjoyed the studio ghibli soundtrack they played too!

Yelp
Been here twice now. At some point, I forgot to take more photos because I was so ready to indulge. All the Yakitori was so delicious. My favorite is the tail, cartilage, tsukune, and tofu. Everything you order will be a hit. I've managed to try everything on the menu during both visits. Service is on point. They will immediately notice if you raise your hand for a waitress. Ambiance is chill, small, and quaint. Easy to hold conversations at the table while enjoying delicious bites. Ample parking is a plush too. Definitely will be back again.

Yelp
Made a reservation for Friday night 6:30 and got the seated no issue. Everything was fresh, tasted good, and not salty. The grill is in the kitchen, so you don't get the smoke in the dinning area, which is a good thing, unless you like the smell of the charcoal. Service was on point and nice. The pork lover was on special and cooked medium rare, if you are okay with that. I have to say that I really like this place.

Yelp
This is a new yakitori restaurant in Lomita They seem to specialize in chicken but they had some other offerings. Most of the skewers I ordered were tasty. The service was friendly. I'd recommend reservations if you're in a group as it's a smaller restaurant. I honestly felt like I was in Japan in a very awesome way!

Yelp
Food was so good! All the skewers were so tender and juicy! Well portioned and worth the price. Staff was also friendly and nice.

Yelp
Let me tell you--I've been to a lot of Japanese restaurants, and I absolutely love yakitori. But this place? Hands down, the best yakitori spot in LA right now! The charcoal-grilled skewers are perfection--the smoky aroma, the incredible flavor, and the generous portion sizes make every bite a 5-star experience. On top of that, the service is warm and welcoming, and the atmosphere is just right for an authentic and enjoyable dining experience. I highly recommend checking this place out if you love great food and a cozy vibe. And a huge thank you for bringing this gem to the South Bay--it's officially one of my favorite spots now! Really recommend the bonbochi, agetofu, eggplant, scallop!!

Marina K.

Yelp
This place is very good!! I went on a Wednesday around 6pm with no reservation and they were very accommodating and we were very lucky to get seated considering how packed the restaurant was. This place has pretty limited seating so I definitely recommend placing a reservation if you want to get seated for sure. The service was wonderful, all the staff were friendly. The food was very good as well. The skewers had that nice charcoal fragrance. For the appetizers, I definitely recommend getting the pork and vegetable miso soup and grilled rice ball !

Yelp
I can't believe they serve my favorite Sake Also I love that fried tofu how they prepare with soy sauce

Yelp
They opened a month ago and it was my first time here! Cozy intimate spot with a great relaxing ambiance. I was actually really impressed with the food! Yakitori restaurants have always been a hit or miss for me, usually too salty for my taste. But everything I ordered here was so amazing! Great presentation, really savory items, and the best service. Will be back soon!

Yelp
This new yakitori restaurant is in a small strip mall tucked behind Eat Fantastic. The restaurant was cozy and lively. We didn't have to wait long for two seats at the bar, but I would recommend making a reservation if you have a larger party since seating is limited. We ordered the pork belly, chicken thigh with green onion, chicken meatball, okra, potato with butter, cabbage salad, soup, grilled rice ball, and peach ice cream. Our favorites were the pork belly, rice ball, chicken thigh, and peach ice cream. The service was good and staff were attentive. I would definitely come back and recommend it to friends!

Yelp
New hidden gem alert!! Last summer, we traveled to Japan and some of our favorite memories were eating Yakitori at izakayas. We had to try Yakitori Nishi after seeing it next to Harbor Freight. They've been open for under two weeks! Everything we had was delicious, but I'd especially like to shout out the sasami wasabi, which is chicken breast tenders served with a side of wasabi. Not the horseradish kind but real wasabi root. The service was kind and attentive! Food was made fresh and served quickly. This does mean things come out as they are ready. The restaurant itself is pretty small but that perfectly resembles an izakaya! There was a small bar with 7 seats, and maybe four tables for 2-6 people. I heard a few people calling for reservations so I think that'd be a good move for a larger group or busier night. We will absolutely be back, so excited this gem is close to us!

Yelp
Best yakitori in LA. They have a pretty small menu but everything is fantastic. Their eggplant is hands down my favorite thing on their menu. Their meatball is great. Chicken tail and fried tofu also great. This place reminds me of how Hasu used to be. They have a good sake list as well.

Yelp
Good is fresh and delicious! Service is excellent. Ambience is calm and fancy. Great to relax and eat and drink.

Yelp
I'm so happy to have discovered a new yakitori restaurant that delivers really delicious food. I travel to Japan for business a lot and I really felt like I was at a neighborhood local favorite yakitori restaurant in Tokyo. They have all the great yakitori hits, perfectly seasoned and flavored. Everything was perfectly cooked - not too much and not too little. I also really liked it that they draft beer (on tap) as well as a rotating selection of higher end sake/wine if you want to splash out for a special occasion. And they plan to expand the menu as they get settled in. The owner works the kitchen and his wife helps out front, and so you have a husband/wife team that really cares. It's an intimate space and perfect for a relaxing evening with your significant other. We plan to go back many times.

Yelp
Food is amazing!!!!very authentic Japanese experience!! Can't wait to go back! We had various yakitori, egg plant was also delicious! Ice cream at the end was so refreshing and amazing!

Yelp
My 2nd time here in one week so it is that good! We love this place that just opened up a week ago now. The ambiance, the vibe, the owners and servers, it was all 5/5! However, the star of it all is the food! It's a small and traditional Yakitori menu and we have now tried every dish on the menu and it's all amazing! Some more amazing than others, depending on your taste buds. The best item on the menu has to be the chicken thigh with green onions - deliciously cooked to perfection as well as seasoned to perfection. And don't forget to try the fruit sorbet desserts, the orange and peach "ice cream" was super yummy!

N Y.

Yelp
Very authentic Japanese Yakitori Place I've ever visited in LA. All skewers we ordered were perfect heat and juicy and tender. The staff also were so friendly and attentive. Will add this place on my hidden jam list. Definitely come back again. Reservations is highly recommended.

Yelp
We went to eat there for a friend's birthday. We were so busy chatting that I forgot to take pictures, but the food is delicious and the price seems reasonable.

Yelp
I'm Japanese and very picky about yakitori, but this place cooks it perfectly. The flavor is amazing, and it's one of the best yakitori spots I've tried. If you love yakitori, you must try Yakitori Nishi!

Yelp
The yakitori was so juicy!! This place is authentic and so delicious! everything was really well-seasoned and the plating was really well organized with the foods. I am so excited to come back to this new restaurant again! The service was amazing, they were attentive and so kind. The ambiance is very cozy and would be perfect for a rainy night. The music also matched the vibe of the restaurant so that was a huge plus! I will be recommending to my local friends :)

Yelp
The Negima (chicken thigh) is to die for!!! If you are looking for an authentic Japanese restaurant, Yakitori Nishi is the spot!

Yelp
This place was a wonderful surprise! Highly recommend. The food came fast and the staff was very welcoming and explained some intricacies. Excellent porky belly and chicken thighs, like THE BEST! The sweet potato with butter was a highlight as well. Everything was delicious!!

Yelp
Best Yakitori in California. Chef Ko and staff are amazing!! Chicken is grilled with great care and passion.

Jennifer Y C.

Yelp
An absolute gem that we happened to stumble upon while in the area. Thoughtful, simple, delicious menu and perfect ambiance. Restaurants like these seem to be few and far between these days, so it feels really special when they pop up. Can I also add that the staff is lovely and price is on point? Wish them all the success. Highly recommend!

Yelp
Kind service! The chef is highly experienced in Yakitori meats. The juicy meat quality is top notch. Limited menu and small space. Best Yakitori you'll find in Lomita. You have to try it.

Marilyn C.

Yelp
It was their grand opening today and believe it or not it was packed. Everything was so organized and well prepared. Shout out to Koichiro, Yume and Lisa for taking care of us tonight. The Yakitori is very good quality and very delicious. Please come and enjoy-you will not be disappointed. ARIGATO ‍

Yelp
Hands down best Yakitori in both LA and OC!!! And trust me I've been to most of them. Customer service is amazing and the Chef/Owner perfected his craft in the art of Yakitori. Small space but this spot is definitely one of those restaurant you can't stop thinking about. Highly Recommend!!

Jack B.

Yelp
The food and service was exceptional! Atmosphere is extremely friendly! I highly recommend Yakitori Nishi!!!!

Ken A.

Yelp
Quickly has climbed to my favorite yakitori place in LA. Menu selection is limited but it is just right for your periodic yakitori craving. The liver is something to cry for - must try, and both the salt and sauce based yakitoris are all so good. Waitresses are very attentive and quick to get your drinks and foods. It is a small place with just 4 tables and counter seating and need to make a reservation especially on weekends.
