Great waiter! Great Food! Great Experience! Orange Beef, General Tso, Pork crispy buns, and spicy wantons, all good and fresh. The Hot and Sour Soup to die for.

Service was good and the atmosphere was good as well but the food was a abomination the lo mein I ordered was doughy and unfresh and the steamed shrimp dumplings was gooey and tasted like it had been there for months also the food smelled stinky

The best Chinese food. The service was great and very friendly. They have a large menu. You must try their dumplings especially the soup dumplings. If in Chinatown check this place out. The Singapore Mei fun was amazing

Food was fine, BUT they speak bad English, you have you have to know what are you ordering, otherwise they are not going to be able to explain. Soda is served in cans, no glasses. Tip is INCLUDED!!! That is just not right, and its 20%, what if I didnt have enogh for 20% when I ordered my food? I should be able to choose how much the tip is going to be. EDIT: After asking about it, they managed to explain what it was and gave me new total without tip included. I left the tip, like I always do, but dont like to be forced to do so.

Server was rude but this is NY so I expected it, he was like next next next, like hurry up and order. Food made it worth it, delicious soup dumplings.

I do NOT recommend this restaurant! The Service was difficult as they didn’t understand what we wanted to order and finally, the food. The food had absolutely no taste, since most of it was evidently frozen, and the amount of oil and grease in the noodles and spring rolls was incredibly disgusting. Plus, the price was insane for what we had (around 4 plates of rice was +100$!). I had a horrific experience after having ate the meal and hope nobody else ever has to go through this.

Good restaurant to come and have a good taste of the Chinese gastronomy. In this case we tasted pork and white rice, beef soup, and a good tofu soup. Different flavors that in some moments are weird but interesting. I always think that you need to taste other things even when they don’t call much your attention. A little bit never kills anyone. Here in this restaurant I got to give a 5 star to the decoration and the tables, it was perfect in all aspects. The service in the beginning was ver y normal but it went better when we ordered more. The flavors of the food I must say that where unique and gave me the intentions to see what more can we taste. For the handicapped people it is friendly.

While visiting Chinatown, we stopped in for an order of dumplings. This is definitely a more spacious restaurant with a restroom, so we appreciated that right off the bat. We were tasting our way around Chinatown and only had the dumplings, but they were good and it was definitely the most relaxing place to eat in the area!

Hello, Golden Shanghai As if in a dream, I found myself landed on the vibrant Mott Street in Chinatown. On a Friday afternoon, streams of tourists amidst New Yorkers walked by the colorful restaurants, bakeries and tea houses. Rows of small lanterns and festive lights are strung above the long, narrow street. I wondered if I could find the corner restaurant where I enjoyed a quiet snack before the lockdown. Next to Bayard Street, I noticed the once familiar Shanghai restaurant. "Hello, Golden Shanghai" I murmured to myself as I pushed the glass doors open to the spacious interior. The slim waitress brought me a pot of tea and set it on the table near the window. I was enticed by the continuous flow of passers by in the sun near the glass pane with bright red Chinese characters saying: Shanghai Cuisine. Indeed, the emerald steamed vegetable dumplings are rolled by hand. The stuffing is from an authentic Eastern Chinese recipe. The finely chopped greens, carrot, Shiitake mushroom and glass bean noodle are freshly prepared. The seafood rice cake soup is light in palette and filled with treasures. Shrimps, scallops, criss cross cut white squid, slices of fresh bamboo shoot, snow peas and Shiitake mushroom danced on the sliced rice cake. Let a few minutes go by, the cake melts into the soup and creates a festive texture, a blessing from a holiday. A surprise saucer of cut melon appeared on my table before I left. The smiley waitress with brown hair said, "You haven't changed."

My coworker and I decided to venture into Chinatown for an authentic Asian food experience here in New York. We were pleasantly surprised by the delicious offerings. While the service was just okay, the staff remained friendly and accommodating despite the bustling crowd. This level of attention during busy times is often a good sign. Overall, we left satisfied with our meal and grateful for the chance to savor authentic Asian cuisine. If you find yourself in the area, I definitely recommend giving this place a try.

NY Chinatown is a lot to take in. Coming from out of town, it's hard to decide where to eat. This restaurant is one of the more spacious ones I've walked past. I was a bit worried because mostly foreigners were eating here. Later, the large table next to us was taken by a Chinese family having a celebration, so I felt better. :-) We had the Xiao Long Bao (soup dumpling), the Shanghai Steamed dumpling, and the Beef Pancake. Portions were smaller than what I'm used to for the price, but hey this is NYC. The XLB was pretty good. The steamed dumpling was average. The pancake on the Beef pancake was literally a crispy flaked scallion pancake, and the sauce was tasty. But sadly some of the beef was grisly and tough. Overall, the food was good and authentic. Some reviews blasted this place for unethical service charges. But I did not witness this. We were just a party of 2. My son went to the bathroom, said it was clean enough. But the person before did number 2 and did not flush. I don't know what to make of that. As can't blame the restaurant for that?

Not as bad as all that! At least in our experience. Call it three and a half stars, and don't go out of your way to eat here, but if it's the only Chinese restaurant that's open after 9:30 p.m. on a Saturday night, and not packed with wedding party guests (like Wu's, our first choice), then it will definitely suffice! We were starving, they sat us quickly, fed us quickly, rushed us out and were fairly solicitous in the process. How was the food? I really enjoyed the spicy wontons in their delicate wrappers. The soup dumplings were bland and not worth eating. The pea shoots were delicious, as was the Shanghai style rice noodles (beautifully sweet sauteed peppers). We ordered a sweet and sour pork dish that was greasy and tasty. The $8 corkage fee was just right. It did the trick!

While visiting Chinatown we wanted to try the real authentic flavors and we really wanted dumplings, we tried to pick other places before but they don't take credit cards so that is why we came to Golden Shanghai. Even though it wasn't our first pick we enjoyed the dumplings, they were fresh and good flavors, just nothing unforgettable. Service was not the best, it was ok. We really enjoyed the jasmine tea, it was perfect for the cold weather!

Excellent service. The waiter and waitresses remember you even if it has been months since you have been there. Excellent food - I always get the crabs in black bean sauce - one of the best dishes anywhere. Wonderful corner with big windows.

We had a nice meal - dumplings, pan-fried noodles, soup dumplings, orange chicken and some other entrees. All were very good. Be careful with the tipping. My spouse mentioned they added it for you and then had a tip line. Other than that, we enjoyed our food and would come by again. Enjoy

Been to this place twice but this is my very first time to leave a review. I wasn't able to take photos of the the other food my friend and I had, but glad to have taken a photo of one of my fave dish in the world- general tso's. The reason I'm just giving it a 3 stars it's because the servings are less than what it used to be- inflation I guess. Yes, I love the food, but I didn't like what they did- they added automatic 15% gratuity on our tab- they didn't do this the first time I was there. My friends, my boyfriend and my family knows I always tip 20% to 25% whenever I eat out, may the service good or bad, I always tip because I used to be a server when I used to live in Austin, Texas. I always rely and live on the customer's tip. I'm disappointed about the gratuity addition, but the food tasted amazing.

Do not go to this restaurant. The food was horrible, which I wouldn't say lightly. The staff are extremely unfriendly, did not check in to see if the food was okay once. One of them had AirPods in and they all looked very grumpy. They automatically add a 20% tip on, which I do not mind paying when the service is good, but it is very frustrating when you the servers do not deserve it. Worst Chinese I have ever had.

With all the options in Chinatown, it can be overwhelming. However, we just randomly stumbled across this place, and I am looking forward to my next time at Golden Changhai! Food was great, amazing atmosphere, and price was great! For how busy it was and so little workers, the service was better than expected, cannot recommend this place enough!

Authentic Shanghaiese food. Delicious and large proportion. I tried their specialty. Tea flavored shrimp and salty egg with crab. We had a big party. The service is very attentive.

Great service but the food is mediocre. If you call yourselves a Shanghainese restaurant and serve fried chicken cutlets in lemon sauce it should be a red flag. We ordered the soup buns and the skins were thick and the filling sparse, plenty of soup though but that alone does not make a tasty soup bun. We also had the House crispy duck which could have been fried a little longer as it came out "just hot enough" if you know what I mean. The duck was underseasoned and a tad dry. I wasn't a fan on the dipping sauce which tasted like a blend of A1 steak sauce and hoisin sauce Finally the cubed pork belly and tofu skin in brown sauce was horrible. Served piping hot but flavorless. The service though was very good. There are many Shanghai restaurants in this area. I would recommend trying out the other ones unless you want to be disappointed eating here.

Be careful not to tip twice. We were not happy that the 20% tip already included the receipt without notifying, and just for two people. We almost tipped twice. We found most customers of this restaurant are tourist or foreigners. Many people would tip twice....

Fried Rice Cake Shanghainese Style Rushing to cook the food so the rice cakes did not have enough "wok" air, meaning it was under fried and that defeats the purpose of fried rice cakes. Not enough seasoning and I usually like things on the blander side, so this dish really was "underwhelming" 2. A la carte veggies I asked for them to be fried in garlic. There was no garlic nor garlic flavor Service: 0 out of 5 Imagine during a pandemic you are looking fro a restaurant that's open and this one of them but they say they are "closed" and it's "take out only." And then, the people who walk in immediately after you get seated. I asked the server "I thought you said you were closed?" and she forcefully sat me. I ordered veggies a la carte because I was told there were no other veggies left and the table that walked in after me ordered the snow pea leaves I wanted. Price: 1 out of 5 $28.20 before tip for 2 dishes that are below average. Competition is Chinatown is tough so this won't last but it was one of the few places open!

i wish i could give it zero stars. the food was bad (mystery meat!!). They gave us more than we ordered and charged us for it. The women who served us was very rude when we ordered so little. AND WORST IF ALL they add a 20% tip when you get the check, and when you ask about it they ignore you. some of the prices listed on the menu are misleading, we got four items that said they would be like $10 each and they turned to be $20, the prices get jacked come paying time.overall i do not recommend this place and it could possibly the worst place in all of china town. AVIOD AT ALL COSTS‼‼‼

We went here on April 27th 2024 ordered crab meat soup dumplings and the dough was too thick and you couldn't taste the crab at all. The Shanghai fried rice and chicken lo mein was average at best. The waiter spilled the tea cup on our table and didn't even apologize. Defiantly one of the worst restaurants in Chinatown

Coming from a local: if you trust the 1 star reviews you are doing yourself a disservice. As a forever pork bun and egg tart pursuer (supposed to up my street cred) and someone who has tried most of the restaurants in Chinatown this place is actually very good...if you know what to order. With respect (I am holding back as you can tell, trying not to hurt ppl's feelings) reading the scathing reviews made me chuckle. Virtually none of them had to do with the actual quality of the food. Let me give you some tips 1. No shade but Ordering beef and broccoli (and no disrespect to the individuals who enjoyed their beef and broccoli. It's just pointing out if you hated your dish here lemme give you a hint why) here is like ordering a hamburger at Peter Luger's or Maestro's steakhouse. Sure they'll make it for you...but that is not the specialty. Let me repeat. KNOWING what to order is key here. 2. Service looks like it can be hit or miss for some people. I've been here twice. Both have been more than polite. Again, I place food over service in any case but they were more than kind so I can only speak to my experience. However if you are so worked up over your encounter to give a restaurant a one star when you endorsed the food is good, that's more a reflection on you not the restaurant. What to order: My favorite and what brought me back were the beef scallion pancake and the fish fillet in the spicy broth. Both were fantastic the first time and again when we went. The gorgeous presentation of the fish broth at first makes you think it's gonna be super spicy. But instead it takes you on a mala (a numbing) journey that is more flavorful than spicy. But have some water on the side just in case. Others that we tried. My mom loves to order off menu but they did have this dish of pork belly with mustard greens. This is one of my favorite dishes reminds many of their childhoods (if I had grown up in China). Received the thumbs up and probably a close close second to the fish fillet broth as my favorite fish. We got another pork belly dish also ordered by my mom and that was tasty. Many of these dishes are heavy on the soy sauce so have the water at hand. Additionally we had the pork with mixed peppers which was nice but compared to the other dishes I would rank this my least favorite. Finally we also had some wontons which were filled with pork and vegetable. Very traditional. Skins were a little thick. Loaded with sesame oil if that's your thing. Probably would skip next time. The inside of this restaurant is beautifully decorated. And again service was fine. Didn't experience some horrific scene as described by some other reviewers. Take every review with a grain of salt including mine. But don't miss out on a place because you see arbitrarily deducted stars by individuals coming in without truly evaluating the food. Summary: my top three dishes. Pork Belly with Mustard Greens. Fish fillet in spicy broth yessss this this for sure. And the beef pancake. Also: a word of warning. Each bowl of rice costs $1.50. We had so much food we didn't order much but BEST believe I took that home cuz home girl here was like that is the most pricey rice I've bought haha. Again, if you order a hot dog at a Brazilian steakhouse don't expect to have the same experience as someone who tries the immersive experience. As you can tell I am a huge proponent of supporting local, support Chinatown. Supporting small business etc. So I hate to see these individuals clogging up in interface that don't provide constructive reviews. If you truly think a place is a 1 star, you better back it up. (Btw out of morbid curiosity I looked at many of these reviewer profiles. They consistently leave 1- star reviews? Whaaat? But that's another conversation). I'm not saying this place is perfect but it certainly got overrun by such reviews. Anyway my stomach is grumbling. I'll think about the beef pancake until next time. As I sat in the restaurant today eating steamed pork buns, orange chicken, broccoli beef, and chicken fried rice, all I could think about is how much I've missed out on *authentic* Chinese food living on the West Coast. Don't get me wrong, there are some great Chinese/Asian restaurants but this lives up to the hype I've been hearing about. The COVID safety was great. Disposable everything. Temp checks, sign ins, and hand sanitizer at the table. Employees wearing mask and gloves.

Don't bother with this place. Charging $7.50 for white rice that comes with the meal everywhere else is complete BS. Adding mandatory gratuity too regardless of level of service, or lack of. I'm surprised they didn't charge for the chopsticks too. Food sucks anyway. All MSG and all dishes look the same.

We enjoyed the Chinese food we got here! As a Chinese person myself, this place exceeded my expectations given it is pretty tourist friendly in a central location. The dim sum was solid, and the chow mein/fried noodle options were good as well. I took a few Western friends here who had trouble with chopsticks, which the restaurant was able to accommodate. The servers are able to communicate in both Chinese and English, which was very convenient. Not a place you'd probably take your S.O.'s parents to impress them, but a solid casual Chinese food place to get dim sum or lunch/dinner food. Their outdoor set up is solid too - very COVID safe.

Good food, weird service... We got the wonton soup, vegetable-rice noodle soup and tea. All of them tasted very good. Light, airy and not too spicy still flavorful. Service was kind weird though 1) included a default tip of 18% in the subtotal and asked for additional tip in the merchant copy of the receipt 2) we're against moving us to a different table in a nearly empty restaurant when we complained of cold air stream. 3) sorta cold service after the incident. But really good food, so you know.

So we walked in and it looks quite amazing inside but the food is what blown me away, so I have NEVER tried Steamed Dumplings before and we ordered Steamed Pork Dumplings, Pork & Leek Dumplings and Shrimp & Pork Dumplings, they are all truly amazing and I have to say the most amazing taste was the Pork & Leek dumpling it was full of juice and the pork tasted good af, it was an all around good experience and the fact that it was authentic.

Our family attended a birthday dinner in this restaurant. I don't know where to begin with how awesome everything was. All of the food was extremely well prepared, the service was friendly and professional and the ambiance was very nice and welcoming. I would highly recommend this restaurant and I can't wait to go back!

I was walking around the city taking pictures today and decided to stop here for lunch. Honestly, what attracted me to this place was the size of it. So many restaurants in the area are tiny and everyone is squished in together. This one is a decent size and it wasn't crowded. It did fill up quite a bit while I was there. I ordered one of the lunch specials: beef and scallions, like a total tourist -- but hey, that's my favorite, so that's what I got. Portions are not huge but I also got hot and sour soup and an order of spring rolls. Totally enough food for one person at lunch and it was all delicious. I thought the service was fine, despite what I have read in other reviews. I think it may be a cultural thing that some people are experiencing. Sometimes the servers come off as cold or the vibe is cold but once you engage with them -- they are quite friendly. They were certainly attentive. Food came fast but I was not rushed at all -- I took my time eating and watching the snow flurries outside the window. I used the restroom on the way out and I have to say, for NYC it was huge and also spotless. Some of the nicest places have disgusting bathrooms but the bathroom here was nice.

Spacing: This place seems like a little hidden, or maybe just be COVID causing the shop to be not as packed nor crowded. They have indoor limited dining restricted to every 3 tables, which is a pretty big space out. It does make one feel safer than normal having such a spacious dining option. Food/Pricing: The food here is not bad for a Shanghai place, the Xiao Long Baos were juicy and not that pricy. I think their pancake is a bit dry, but other than that their lunch options seem more promising than their dinner pricing. The food quality is great, but I don't think its worth 15+$ great. Server: The server I think like all Asian places is slightly rude and kind of doesn't cater as the American restaurants do, that's a given. However, what sort of ticked me off a bit was them not mentioning there is a 1.50$ surcharge for a credit card, and just charged our card anyways. (And for this whole section of reasoning + expensive pricing- I am taking a star away) Like all of new york, I am not gonna mention parking because there is none. The train is your best bet, and the closest is about a 10-minute walk which is not bad at all.

Decent, cheap eat in Chinatown, although I probably wouldn't come back because the food was just alright and the atmosphere isn't the best. Prices are great tho, esp. if you are just looking for a quick bite. Soup dumplings didn't have enough soup and the skin was a little too thick for me. Also came with straight vinegar rather than the usual vinegar/sugar/ginger mix which was very disappointing. Beef Chow Fun was pretty good but nothing special & kinda oily. Good if you just want something cheap to eat in Chinatown like us, but nothing special.

This is the best and the most authentic Shanghai restaurants you can imagine in NYC Chinatown. The chefs and managers were both from Shanghai. As Shanghainese's, 6 of us went to this restaurant at Chinese New Year Eve 2022 and ordered authentic Shanghainese food. They are very delicious! If you don't know what to order, just follow what we did except for the duck,which needs 1 day in advance reservation (but I can tell you it worth 1 day of waiting period!!). Overall, with the taste of the food and the service, you can be satisfied if you like real and authentic Shanghainese food.

Pretty good Chinese food! I was very pleasantly surprised by this restaurant. We came on a very busy day but we were able to be seated within 15 mins. We ordered the fried dumplings, soup dumplings, chicken fried rice, beef lo mein, fried pork ribs, and braised beef stew. Fried Dumpling (3/5) It was just fine, though not the best I've ever had. Passable if you like dumplings. Soup Dumplings (4.5/5) We were waiting in line at Joe's Shanghai when my husband called to say the wait time for this place was much shorter. Of course we had to get the soup dumplings as that's what we were craving! These are rather small (compared to Joe's), but tasty. Chicken Fried Rice (4/5) I loved this! Tasted like it was cooked at home and not too bland or oily as take-out places make. Beef Lo Mein (5/5) My favorite dish of the night! It was nicely flavorful with the right amount of beef and veggies. The noodles tasted almost like hand-pulled noodles and I couldn't get enough of this dish! Braised Beef Stew (4/5) This dish was nicely made but a tad on the sweet side for me. The rest of my table would likely have made this 5/5 as they loved it! Fried Pork Ribs (4/5) Not sure why the reviews for this are so harsh, but we liked this very much! The meat inside was tender with a nice crunch on the breading. It was nicely seasoned! All our food was pretty good!! The wait staff was a little gruff, but it's a Chinese restaurant during a holiday -- they've never been that pleasant. It was significant effort just to get water / tea refills.

Walked in after watching people eat the amazing dim sum. We ordered the shrimp and the pork/crab dim sum along with the beef and broccoli with shrimp fried rice. And then came the dim sum!! What a delicious delightful purse of food yumminess!! So glad we ate here. My only complaint was the service slowed down during our meal and I had no napkins during dinner. Ugh.

PLEASE READ THIS, it will help!!!! If I could give this place zero stars I definitely 100% would. I had recently came from California to visit New York and was dying to try Chinese food at Chinatown. I saw the place and I was like "what could go wrong?" So we ordered food and the guy with the burgundy shirt did not give us a great customer service. When we asked for the bill he brought us the bill and kept staring at us to see how much we were going to tip him. Since he gave us such a bad service we only gave 5 dollars as tip and when he looked at it he started going off at me and my family saying that the tip was supposed to be 18% and pulled out a calculator. We then told him that why would we give him more since he was so rude, then we took all the money and he literally told us "GET OUT!!!" Yelling at us in front of all the customers that were there. PLEASE, if you really want to be treated like a customer please do not go there because they treat you worse than trash. Worst restaurant on New York.

Pretty good, I come with my family a lot. I am a basic lad, I get pork fried rice and pork buns. I am happy.

Where should I start? Toilet would get an auto failure for the restaurant..... Gross Food passable...... nothing to rave about. Price of dishes u will be ripped off. Came alone to eat. 2 dim sum and one main dish fried pork with vegetables; totaled more than $40. It's Chinese food in Chinatown, it shouldn't cost an arm and leg. I got hot tea. Not soda or juice or wine. That pot of tea is $5. What happened to $2 surcharge of tea in Chinese restaurants Looks pretty but it's catered to tourists to robbed them of money.

If you've been to Taiwan or Hong Kong or have tasted authentic Chinese food I recommend you go to Flushing, Queens. I'm from Hawaii and this is Hawaii-level Chinese food, not NY-level. Came here for Xiao Long Bao, big mistake. Every single one was broken. Scallion pancake was thin, overly oily and had 3-4 pieces of scallion. Come here for okay, watered-down Chinese food. Two stars because the service was decent.

Great Chinatown spot with outdoor seating. We came around 11am on Saturday after walking around for a while. The menu had a little bit of everything from dim sum to traditional entrees. We had some dumplings, a chive pancake, chicken corn soup, and shredded pork in garlic sauce. Everything was hot and tasty. Service was good. My only complaint is that the entree didn't come out until we finished everything else. Not a huge deal, but as I'd ordered the dumplings and soup as my meal, it was a bit awkward.

Dined on 6/14/22 around 3:30pm RUDE WAITRESS! TERRIBLE SERVICE! My usual tip is 18-20% for good to even mediocre service. However, today was a day where I wanted to put my dignity aside and just be as stingy as I could to this particular female waitress. In the end, the four of us still dropped 12 bucks for a $90 check even though she deserved zero dollars. There was another waiter involved in the service so we tried to be reasonable. The tip came out to be about 13.5%. We originally came from NJ and were eagerly looking to eat at Bo Ky restaurant located across the street. We quickly found out that they were closed for some reason so we decided to try out THIS place. Big mistake! When we arrived, a female waitress begrudgingly led us to a table after a few minutes of waiting. She then threw menus at us like they were frisbees and as if our business was a burden to her. My wife wanted to leave right away but I said: "Let's just try the food...", as we were already there and very hungry. The restaurant was half full at the time and the 2 servers couldn't catch up with their tables as we saw uncleared plates and cups throughout the whole restaurant. The next red flag was when one table left and the waitress chased after them as if they didn't pay. Everybody in the restaurant watched through the big window as it became evident that the confrontation was over a gratuity issue. We waited almost 20mins before they came to take our order and took at least another 20 min for the first dish to come out. The food was not worth it... Also, here's an interaction with the waitress: Us: Can we get some forks please? Her: Water? Us: No, forks please Her: Ok ok water coming Us: No! no miss! We said forks!!! 3 mins later..... Guess what she comes back with? Water... After she got the point she angrily suggests, why didn't you just ask in Chinese? While the only Chinese person was on the phone.... But it didn't matter, how could she not have understood the word FORK? After the unpleasant dine-in experience, we paid by cash and left the 13.5% tip as mentioned. She quickly came to collect the bill and review it before demanding that I had to give her a 15% tip. I told her I didn't have to do anything except pay for the bill and tip her accordingly to what she deserved. She agrily insists that it is mandatory to leave at least 15% for tip. Needless to say, I did no such thing and left with some more unpleasant words exchanged with her while everyone watched. What an embarrassment to the restaurant she was and what an embarrassment to Chinese people. This is why Asians are probably randomly attacked and hated on... Because of people like her that come to this country and give us a bad look.

Went to this restaurant with just my friend and I. Tipped $10 because there is no service. Food is ok, but while we finished writing our check, the waitress ran towards us and insisted me to give them at least 18% tip. She told me her salary only rely on those tip... lol. Don't wanna cause a scene in the restaurant, so I was generous enough to write 18% before she refuse me to leave the restaurant. Will dispute the payment as soon as the credit card company finalize the transaction. Don't argue with robbers, let the professionals at the bank take care of it :)

We discovered this place due to its outdoor dinning. Due to COVID restaurants are not allowing indoor dinning so it was difficult to find a place that had the permit for outdoor dinning. We saw that this place was pretty full but saw two uncleaned tables outside. We figured this might be a good spot since majority of it's seating is full, so we gave it a go. At first we were directed to sit down at a 4 seat table which was lopsided and off a little slope right underneath the restaurant overhead. The host/server gave us a couple more minutes to order and gave us a pitcher of water with paper cups in the meantime. After exploring Yelp and the menu we knew what we wanted and flagged the server down. She immediately asked if we can move over to a 2 person table right under the tents so she can accommodate a 4 person party. We had no problem with that since the table was a bit funky anyways, but that should've been her first move in the first place. There seemed to be two employees working the outdoor dinning and one person inside to tackle the register and take out orders. It was a little bit after 2pm and this place was still pretty busy. We had encounters with both servers and both of them spoke Chinese and limited English but got the job done. They work really well together. Even though the female server took our order down the male server still came over when we had a question or to provide us with utensils. They didn't talk much but still really attentive. We weren't too hungry but wanted to try a sit down place in Chinatown, so we only ordered a couple plates from here. We ordered a pork soup dumpling, beef flat noodles, and salt and pepper pork chop. The soup dumplings were delicious. Not the best I've had, but still yummy and flavorful. The beef flat noodles was literally soaked in oil. The beef in this dish was still good though. However the salt and pepper pork chop was not it for us. It was very plain and didn't taste like anything. It literally tasted like unseasoned fried and battered pork. There was no flavor to it. We expected salt and pepper, hence the name of the plate, but they literally added chopped up thin green peppers as "pepper," to make a spicy/hot taste. Overall we were not a huge fan of this place and so glad we only order 3 plates here. We had a ton of leftovers but did not take any of it to go as it was not as flavorful as we thought it would be. They took really good health precautions as each table had at least 10 table cloths. After each party left they cleared the table immediately and took a tablecloth off for the next table. They also gave us disposable paper plates and utensils. Also, this place is fairly priced! For the three items, the total came out to $35.77 without tip.

I enjoyed the food enough to try it again, but the service on the second visit was a deal breaker and I will never return. On the second visit I asked for "hot oil"; the waiter (a male) asked if I meant chili paste and I said NO, hot oil. He came back with Sriacha-like chili paste. When I asked instead for hot oil he LIED and said that they didn't have any. He was just too lazy or cheap to go back to the kitchen and get it. I pointed out that I knew they had hot oil because I was there yesterday and I had it. He LIED and said they ran out. After eating my meal I paid for the meal and did not leave a tip. He confronted me about the tip and I said I was not giving any due to him lying about the lack of hot oil. He admitted that he lied about the hot oil but said that the tip was for service. I looked at him in amazement and left.

We couldn't quite decide where to eat dinner in Chinatown and we're standing staring at our cell phones. A friendly local with an empty beer in hand smiled at our family and said "where are you headed?" He then recommended a few places and gave us a brief little tour of the area. He said this restaurant was one of his favorites. Wow. So glad we went here. The staff was warm and friendly and everything was delicious. We have five kids ages 1 to 20 and all seven of us had a nice big table with a spinning center to make family style eating of the dim sum perfect. The beef pancakes and stick rice shumai were our favorites but everything was great and we bought tons of food. If we're back in Chinatown we'll visit again.

This place takes cards!!!!! That is awesome because most mom and pop Chinese restaurants only takes cash. This restaurant has been around for ages and I've always walked by it whenever I visit my grandma. However, this is the first time I've actually dined in. The restaurant itself is beautiful; I love how they decorated it. The staff was very diligent and friendly. They even conversed with me in my broken Chinese. The food itself has amazing quality, especially for the price. I got soup dumplings (5.95 for 8 buns!) and stewed pork with bean curd sheet. The soup dumplings itself was pretty good (not the best though) but were a good size, aka small enough to put on my spoon for the soup to spill over. I have no idea what the latter dish was initially but it was really delicious. The bean curd sheet reminds me of thin, seasoned tofu sheets and I found it to be compatible with the pork. For the price, all of the dishes are pretty big in portions. You would definitely leave this place with leftovers. Absolutely recommend this place!!!

Food is mediocre, RUDE and AWFUL service, very homophobic Servers would not make eye contact or look at us when we spoke to them, never checked on our table, was very difficult to get their attention I would recommend going to any other restaurant around, lots of great other alternatives

Let me start by saying I have no idea what I am talking about, but I liked the food. I'm not the person to speak on authenticity or how this restaurant compares to others in the neighborhood. We wandered to Chinatown from our apartment in search of a place we could get in for Dim Sum. Everything was full with a long wait - to be expected. We just kept walking until we found somewhere with availability and with AC (it was 90 degrees and humid). We walked by and were seated. We had the juicy pork dumplings (soup dumplings) which were my favorite item. The scallion pancakes were must crispier than I'm used to. We liked them. I wanted to try to cold scallion noodles because of the heat - the texture of the sauce was too thick for my personal preference.

Very spacious Shanghainese in the center of Chinatown with solid food and decent service. 1. Sautéed live eel with chives: Very solid and made with fresh live eel. This is the specialty here so definitely worth getting. 2. Soup dumplings: Pretty solid although the wrapper is a bit thicker. But plenty of crab filling. Overall excellent especially the flavor! 3. Honey pork shoulder: solid and a nice sweet take on a classic. 4. Fried whole bass with pine nuts: Nice and crispy shell with a sweet and sour sauce. Solid. 5. Shumai: Pretty solid although the filling was slightly dry. 6. Shanghai wontons: Spot on flavor and perfectly balanced filling. Definitely very authentic. Overall a great option for a larger party as the seating is much more spacious than other Shanghainese options in Chinatown.

Really not a fan of this place, the soup dumplings are decent, the skin is a bit chewy but the filling is good especially the crab dumpling. Ordered the wonton in chili oil that's the worst one I've ever taste, it's not spicy at all and soaked in sesame sauce. I had to dip in other sauce to eat it. The beef and tripe appetizer is not authentic at all, barely any beef inside a lot of tender, didn't see any tripe, it's soaked in the oil. The waiter even told me that the pan fried buns are not good because it's chicken and very dry, which I really appreciate the honesty to Chinese taste. The menu is full of Americanized food, I can see that attract a lot of tourist. Don't think I will ever come back again.

BAD SERVICE. Always asking you to order and eat quicker and quicker. Add the tips on the receipt automatically but still leave another blank for you to sign the second tips. Luring you giving tips TWICE!!! The worst experience I have ever had.

Very good, well executed and delicious dishes. The standout was the salt and pepper pork chops, batter was light and delicate and the pork was tender inside, a real treat. We also had the Chilean sea bass, also tasty, plus eggplant in garlic sauce, pretty balanced, and the pineapple duck, the only dish we didn't like very much. Overall a good value foodwise, fast and delicious.

ZERO STARS! So I read one of the reviews that said to not let yourself be fooled by the one star reviews alright I am glad you had that great experience, honestly it was probably for that tip money. Heres why: I was 7 months pregnant and went to try something new with my husband and mother. Looked good on the outside, was seated but then on forward, I was given dirty utensils, which okay the dishwasher sometimes doesn't do a great job but you check before serving it to your customers. Same issue with the cups. I ordered tea which I had to ask for sugar because none was given. I had to ask for napkins, I had to ask for water, I HAD TO ASK FOR EVERYTHING. Customer service was terrible, both waiters had a MEDIOCRE AND DISGUSTING ATTENTION AND ATTITUDE. The waiters "uniform" was also very dirty and it was early with few customers in. The food was alright, not the best. We ordered duck and it was very dry and at least my plate was just bones. I was given the check without finishing my food or asking for it. Were they throwing us out..? Honestly I tipped them only $3 why because 1) I don't have that $30 or $60 they claimed they wanted when they saw I only left $3. They showed me other receipts of customers who tipped them that amount and thats nice those people have money. $60 is 6-7 hours of my day. Keep in my mind I am still eating, pregnant and the two waiters are on me, the women I swear was about to hit me. My husband told me it was best to leave but he only speaks Spanish so It was a moment where I was left to do the talking. A tip is not mandatory unless stated on the menu due to the amount of people, which was not stated. In conclusion I WOULD NEVER RECOMMEND THIS PLACE. The intimidation was to another level and to feel that way PREGNANT is horrible.
