"Raleigh’s first downtown distillery comes from the team behind Trophy Brewing and State of Beer. It’s split into several spaces, ranging from a covered upstairs patio ideal for a quieter dinner date to the street-level bar perfect for an afternoon hang with friends. Young Hearts specializes in clear spirits including one made out of agave that’s similar to a tequila and a lemongrass, lavender, and elderflower gin, but the drink menu extends beyond the spirits distilled on site, and the food is truly excellent. Small plates like roasted cauliflower with pickled beet yogurt and salmon cakes with snow peas and lemon-basil aioli are way better, and much more interesting, than your typical bar food." - eric ginsburg

"Raleigh-based Trophy Brewing Company owners recently expanded their downtown footprint with the opening of Young Hearts Distilling at 223 South Wilmington Street. Owners Chris Powers, David “Woody” Lockwood, and David Meeker, along with head distiller Mena Killough, aim to draw crowds curious about the distilling process while enjoying Instagrammable cocktails from the rooftop patio. The distillery also features a full restaurant, offering dishes like Brunswick rillettes and sweet potato pappardelle, led by Chef Alex Ricci and sous chef Josiah Halbohm. Young Hearts opens from 4:00 p.m. to 9:30 p.m., Wednesdays through Sundays, with plans for brunch and lunch services in the future." - Erin Perkins

Young Hearts was a phenomenal venue to work with. We got married on a beautiful October afternoon out on their covered rooftop and they made the place look spectacular. We had a very small wedding and it was very intimate, yet our awesome Young Hearts event staff made us feel like they were there and not there... depending on what was needed. The food was excellent and our bartender was incredibly personable. Working with them before the wedding could not have been easier. Brittany was super communicative and friendly. She outlined all of our options as well as how they could adapt if we requested it. The food and beverage packages made it all so easy to do a micro wedding. They even let us play with date and time a bit to suit our budget. The space was beautiful, and any stress we had was not because of Young Hearts. They made it easy, beautiful, and special.

Google
Everything was perfect. The food, the drinks, the staff, the space - everything went how I pictured it to be! Planning with the Young Hearts team was a breeze, there were very responsive and helpful in every aspect. Highly recommend having your wedding reception here 🫶🏻

Google
THE BEST STAFF AND EVENT SPACE! My husband and I had our wedding reception here in July 2024. The staff were unbelievably friendly, helpful, and accommodating. The space was perfect for the 70 people we hosted and the food was a huge hit. The bar was so amazing as well. The Young Hearts team truly went above and beyond. They made the day far less stressful for me and I can’t recommend this place more!

Google
We hosted both our rehearsal dinner and welcome party at Young Hearts in December 2023 and truly don't have enough amazing things to say about the whole experience! Emma was awesome to work with. She was very responsive, transparent, and informative throughout the planning process which was super helpful while planning from across the country! It was extra special to host some of our wedding events here because my husband and I used to come here when it was Busy Bee when we first started dating and were obsessed with their tater tots and dancing at The Hive! Our guests raved about how good the food and drinks were and we were so excited we got to relive our Busy Bee days with a loaded tot bar. The A/V setup was great and they had a microphone for speeches, let us play our own Spotify playlist, and even display a slideshow. They also had some simple decor that looked beautiful and was one less thing we had to plan for. We used the upstairs bar and outdoor patio and our guests loved utilizing both spaces and seeing the awesome downtown view. The transition from dinner (bridal party and immediate family) to the welcome party (all guests invited) was seamless and the staff was so kind and helpful. We all had an amazing time and it was the perfect start to our wedding weekend! Could not recommend Young Hearts enough for your next event!

Google
I went for the 1 st time during restaurant week. I had such a great time because I added the drink pairing. Every drink was excellent. The meal was great I got the black eyed peas hummus, chicken sliders and the strawberry cake with gin icing. The pineapple dessert was so amazing.. We were on the rooftop - beautiful spot.

Google
In town for my niece’s graduation from NC State and we came across this gem! Server was super nice and sweet! She was new to the team but did a great job! Loved the atmosphere with a cool classy vibe. We were going to just have a drink but it turned into us getting a booth with friends. Wide selection of spirits with a good looking menu. We enjoyed the charcuterie board and 3 rounds of drinks. Definitely coming back!

Google
There's so much to love about this place. Fantastic food menu & expertly crafted cocktails along with the relaxed - but elevated- vibe of Trophy & Busy Bee. I judge a place by the integrity of their Old Fashioned and for that alone you need to visit. Really enjoyed sitting at the bar and chatting with our servers while watching them make our drinks. Raleigh thanks you Young Heart.

Google
I love Young Hearts as a bar (and their gin is *chef's kiss*) but this review is for Young Hearts as an event space. I had the pleasure of photographing a welcome party for a wedding that was hosted at Young Hearts, and it was so much fun. The space worked great, even with as large of a crowd as my couple had, and the staff was so organized and kind. And of course everyone raved about the drinks.

Yelp
I really enjoyed coming here for brunch, the menu isn't huge but YH really took their time curating they menu to be a balance of flavors. My friends liked the avocado tartine, bloodys & mimosas! Floral Dora: 9/10 Vegetable Hash: 8.5/10 (don't be thrown by the bbq grape, it was delicious!)

Justin M.

Yelp
Came here at like 7 on a Friday night, and they were closed, despite the hours listed on yelp and google. They don't have much info on their website, and nothing on the front door either. Come on guys, make it easier for us to give you money. Wondering if they're even still in business.

Cindy G.

Yelp
We came here for a private holiday party in the upstairs area, which had a heated patio and comfortable seating. The goat cheese ball with chèvre honey was delicious. The batter on the chicken breast was light and crunchy and the chicken was tender. Parking deck next door and free on weekends. Very clean restaurant

Yelp
Everyone must come to Young Hearts for Tacuterie Tuesday! It was so dang good. They bring out a huge board of sides, meats, and fixings with homemade warm tortillas. From the queso to the guacamole to the perfectly fried chips, it was a true treat. It is so much food that you can legit share it with 4. Our server was very pleasant and helpful and the agave margaritas were wonderful as well!

Yelp
We'll done, Young Hearts Distilling! Our dining experience was classy and memorable. I loved this ambiance, decor, music, excellent dishes, and cocktails. We started with a pink colada, which was just beautiful. The bartenders hand crush the ice (that's a lot of work). I enjoyed the coconut and lime in this drink. We also got a pumpkin Milky Way stout, which was to die for! We shared the scallops, lion's mane mushrooms, and red potatoes. Everything was just excellent. The menu says the potatoes have cheese, but the bartender said they didn't come with cheese anymore. I think it would have been better with cheese. Everything was creative with so much flavor. The scallops and mushrooms were my favorite. We want to go back and try everything on the menu!

Yelp
Date night review. I made reservations for this location because it had a rooftop and the weather was nice. The location is right downtown and super simple to find. We were escorted upstairs and even though the rooftop views weren't "amazing" it still made for a cool ambience. Our server was Jace (hope I spelled that correctly) and he was great! We had 3 different appetizers since they are tapas style and that was just enough. They also distill their own spirits so we decided to try vodka shots along without drinks. They were POTENT, but much appreciated lol. We can't wait to come back and try more menu items!

Sylvia B.

Yelp
The drinks were very yummy. Enjoyed my time, but I did not have a chance to try their food so I will have to visit again soon so I can have a full experience. For more reviews follow @raleighunlocked on Instagram

Yelp
What a great find! Cozy little spot for drinks and dinner. I highly suggest stopping in and trying a flight or specialty cocktail. Chase & Ellis were super knowledgeable and outgoing. Thank you for your kindness!

Kellie D.

Yelp
Visited here for the first time last night for dinner and drinks. Our waitress (can't remember her name) was friendly and helpful with drink suggestions. They had some spooky Halloween drinks on the menu so I ordered the Surprise Sidney. Very tasty. For my entree I ordered the Butternut Squash Risotto which was delicious. Husband ordered the special -- the empanadas. He said they tasted great but thought portion size was small for $18. When it was time to leave we ordered drinks to go to carry through the new social district -- first time doing this! Pretty cool -- they put the date and time on a plastic cup and you are good to go!

Stacy Y.

Yelp
This is not your ho-hum meat and cheese board. Well worth the price. Everything was fresh, local and flavorful. It's a meal within itself. The service was great and can't wait to comeback, even just for the whole grain mustard!

Lorraine N.

Yelp
Stumbled upon the outdoor sign on the Sunday after Christmas advertising brunch. So we climbed the step stairs like two thirsty mountain goats and sat outside on the inviting outdoor balcony space. We decided to share as much as we could the Brussels with apples and a fried egg amazing. The fried chicken with grits spectacular. Those grits would make any southerner proud. Bloody Mary's were good but could be jazzed up with some better snacks on the stick!! Theo house donut is pretty damn tasty also.

Melissa C.

Yelp
I had a table booked for weeks for 10 for a post wedding brunch on 10/22. I just received a call today that my reservation is cancelled because they "are no longer doing brunch". No alternatives, no other options or solutions offered. Thanks Young Hearts for leaving me to scramble to find another option for a large group on such short notice, also the week of my wedding. Really poor service and super disappointing. I would never return based on this interaction.

Lan Z.

Yelp
This is a nice casual spot to meet up with friends. They have some decent cocktails using their liquor. Among our groups, there were some definite winners but a few misses. The Agave Bacon Tartine was delicious (thick soft bread topped with bacon jam and a little bit of arugula so you feel like you're eating healthy). We also enjoyed the prosciutto wrapped dates. The Brussel Sprouts were a miss; it was very saucy which just didn't work for the dish.

Tiffany F.

Yelp
Mia was a great server! Me and a friend ordered a ton of food and it was all delicious! Farm to table so the menu changes frequently. The mimosas were delicious. Try the pineapple mimosa and the cranberry mimosa - you won't regret it.

Surelyne L.

Yelp
Came here for brunch to celebrate a special occasion. Cocktails were very good...Love that they distill and infuse their own spirits. They were really sweet to bring us complementary French toast to celebrate our occasion. The brunch menu was decent with limited selections. Really enjoyed the winter salad & salmon cakes. The entrees didn't really excite us but they were flavorful. Need to go back to try their regular menu.

Tina G.

Yelp
We had a great dinner date night here last night. I made reservations on line which were quick & easy. We were greeted immediately by two friendly ladies and seated very quickly. The inside dining area is nice, clean and I love the exposed brick. The service was seriously amazing. We had to very nice young man who new the menu in detail. We both decided on the bacon relish burger and the potatoes w beer cheese. First the burger was awesome. 2 think Pattie's w a bacon relish and delish bun. The potatoes were seriously out of this world. I appetizer we got was the duck confet with chicken Pate on yummy bread. Nice selection of beers on tab too!! We'll be back for sure.

Sara T.

Yelp
Great spot for drinks on the rooftop patio, everything we had was great! Definitely suggest reservations.

Autumn D.

Yelp
I gave a 3 because the drinks were amazing. Food was average, overpriced, and not filling. We came here for my husbands birthday with a group of 10 people yesterday. It was very pretty inside and the drinks were amazing! That's where my praise ends. We ordered the summer salad, mushroom lettuce wraps, and the ceviche. Our waiter told us the plates were really big. You can see in this picture the size of the plates but I don't think this picture does it justice. The ceviche was small (don't be fooled by the potato cracker things) and didn't taste very good. The mushroom lettuce wraps had fried mushrooms that tasted burned or maybe dirty oil? I'm not sure. We ate everything we got but the food we ordered was very average. The summer salad was our favorite but it's just a salad. Some of the other people in our party ordered the sliders, potatoes, and other heavy meat dishes. They said it was all really good but small. We ended up getting more food elsewhere later that evening because we weren't full after spending so much money on the food we ordered. I would definitely go back for drinks but I won't be back for a meal anytime soon.

Diane B.

Yelp
Staff was very friendly, and service was very quick especially for it being a Friday night in downtown Raleigh. The restaurant atmosphere was nice, it was not too loud inside. Which is always a plus, I see myself coming back again.

Andrew K.

Yelp
My wife and I tried this place out last night. I'd say it's kind of like the Trophy brand trying out a more upscale restaurant. Summary: pretty good if a little much. The good: The service was really good, especially for a brand new restaurant that was a little surprising. We got the Pappadelle as an appetizer, and it was really tasty. Just a word of warning: this is an appetizer meant for two, not for like a whole family. The mixed drinks were good. I got the Lucid Dreamer, which was really nice. As an entree my wife got the Beet bowl which she was just okay with (honestly, how many beets do you need?). I got the Joyce Farm Chicken. It's really well seasoned and extremely juicy chicken. Tasted excellent. The bad: A bit pricey, especially for drinks. It's maybe a bit much. I ordered the Joyce Farm Chicken. Did you serve me a whole chicken? Two chickens? My wife got the beet dish, and it was like a whole serving tray of beets, gross dude. So if we are going to think about what Trophy restaurants to bring people to, I go like this: Trophy Pizza: People who either just want a beer or a fairly cheap dinner Irregardless: Vegetarians and older folks Young Hearts: Fancy people who aren't too concerned about the number on the bill.

Channing D.

Yelp
Such a great place to hang out with friends or family or even by yourself. perfect spot to grab dinner, catch a game, or chill after work. The food is simple yet above average and flavorful. The house-made cocktails were exceptional and completed the meal. They have outdoor seating which is such a bonus during COVID and parking is always awesome. The atmosphere is great and so is the service. we really enjoyed our time here and recommended it to some friends. We will most definitely be coming back!

Anthony G.

Yelp
Came here last night with two friends and we ordered the dates with prosciutto and the mushroom croquettes. I told the sever twice to please put the aioli on the side for the coquettes, as I am allergic. She brought them with the aioli all over them. They were not croquettes, I make home made croquettes at home, they were more like over-fried fritters, greasy and bland. The dates were good, not dried and very tasty. The hamburger was amazing as was the chicken sandwich. I had ordered a salad with pecans and goat cheese and chicken, it was overpriced and small and the chicken did not taste like a regular chicken breast, it was rubbery. The service was very nice but I don't know if I'd return.

Jennifer N.

Yelp
We went for a distillery tour. Can't say enough about Willie. He was very knowledgeable, creative and passionate about his job. Provided an informative process of distilling. A fun and different thing to do in Raleigh.

Monica D.

Yelp
Really good food and drink, friendly service, nice open air patio, easy parking, online reservations with Resy! Loved everything we ate (Beet Bourginon, Scallops 'Nduja, Mushrooms, Cheese Plate), except the carrots (which were a little undercooked but well-flavored). Drinks were obviously fantastic. Will 100% be back.

Antonio L.

Yelp
Our waiter was not knowledgeable about the menu. My girlfriend is vegan and he was not accommodating her at all during Raleigh restaurant week. We were told we BOTH had to participate in ordering the pre-set menu even though there were no vegan dessert options. So we ordered from the regular menu. A few minutes later, the people right next to us had 4 people eating and only 3 of them had to order from the restaurant week menu and the order one order from the regular menu. This is was contradictory to what we were told. Left a super sour taste in our mouths. Won't be back.

Megan B.

Yelp
All around great spot! Food is fresh and delicious. Great drinks to pair and can't go wrong with the large selection of Trophy Beer. Lots of seating and great bar space. Can't beat the view with brunch on the patio though! Will definitely be back soon!

Kelly S.

Yelp
Service was very friendly and informative. Drinks were super good! We ordered a small plate and 2 meals. It was plenty of food and we took most of our entrees home. Will definitely be back for the rooftop bar!

Tresa W.

Yelp
We loved this place when it was Trophies Tap and Table and came weekly. Now the vibe with the big black cheap looking plastic booths take away from the awesome wood and brick Walls. The place was desolate on a Sun at 1pm. Bartender was cocky and commented to my 33 yr old daughter kinda in a joking but mean way that she couldn't read or why she wasn't smiling which was far from the truth. She loves life and we just arrived and whilst looking at the menu he came over to try his hand at humor. It left a sour taste in our mouths and upset her husband. I understand if we were regulars and personally knew him but it all seemed out of place and a shame cause we didn't stay for food. We ordered drinks which were not to our liking. We will continue to use their pizza place but will never return here and do not recommend.

Chris C.

Yelp
This is a super cool place; great vibe. Be prepared to spend some money to enjoy it. If you're looking for value, skip it. If you're willing to spend extra for ambiance and quality, this is your place. You MUST try the potatoes with beer cheese ... a-MAZ-ing! I know, I know ... it's potatoes and cheese. Trust me! With difficulty hiring these days I totally get that wait staff might be a lot of rookies. However, for these prices I would have expected our server to be more personally experienced with the food and beverages being served. She couldn't describe either with any clarity; just a small opportunity.

Amanda B.

Yelp
Food was good, but had limited options. Not for someone with a basic food taste. Drinks were amazing!

Kristen B.

Yelp
Such a cool place with great drinks! The elderberry mule was delicious as well as all of the sandwiches!

Emily L.

Yelp
My husband and I were excited to try Young Hearts after following their opening on Instagram and seeing the menu and beautiful dishes/drinks. We went last Friday for a date night. We started with a handful of small plates and then shared the pork entree. Every bite was incredible. The drinks were amazing and we bought a bottle of the gin to take home since it was so good. Service was wonderful and everyone who waited on us was incredibly helpful, even playing along with my husband's request to make him "their favorite drink." Our bill was high but not unreasonable for a high quality meal. We cannot wait to go back. This new restaurant is executing at a high level and we are excited they are in DTR!

Nickole K.

Yelp
The cocktails and food at YH were incredible. The ambiance is awesome and the staff were so nice! We will definitely be back!

Rainiece L.

Yelp
Joe was amazing and very comedic a smile didn't leave my face the whole time. On top of service being fabulous I hope I get him everytime I come!

Lindsay P.

Yelp
The food service and atmosphere here are beyond phenomenal, but what really made our experience was Joe! He is so kind, funny, and personable! Best customer service I've ever had! We will be back!

Shelley W.

Yelp
The best steak I've have in years. I have many food allergies. To my disappointment I couldn't order anything from the menu due to my allergies. However the chief was so kinda to made me something off menu. It was Loaded with flavor and so perfectly prepared. My friend also raved over her menu order also. Don't hesitate to visit!

Debra O.

Yelp
Did not enjoy the layout of the menu. Our waiter was very friendly, but felt like the other bartender had a bad attitude toward me. We brought a group of people in and we're forced to pay $90 for 10 sliders. Seemed a little steep in my opinion.

Shanna M.

Yelp
Went here for my birthday. The food was awesome! We ordered a variety of things, all were good. The potatoes were fantastic, and the mushroom lettuce wraps were a delightful surprise. Highly recommend. The ambiance is also very fun.

Shannon M.

Yelp
Having loved the patio in all of the ventures of this location and loving a good cocktail, we wanted to check Young Hearts out for a couple of pre dinner drinks. All the drinks we tried were fantastic and creative. There are even options if you aren't a vodka or gin fan. Loved that you could take home a bottle of their house made vodka or gin if you wanted. The patio is now covered with heaters and a couple of tv's which is great for a day where the weather is less than desirable. For food we tried the Brunswick Rillettes... 10/10 would recommend. Service was amazing as well. A little on the pricier side but the atmosphere leaned towards that so it felt worth it. We can't wait to go back.

Corey L.

Yelp
Tonight's dinner was average. We came to celebrate my friends birthday and this was my second time coming to young hearts a couple months apart. The first time we came I gave young hearts a 10/10 but this time was very below what I expected. The appetizers were good but the main course was cold. We ordered the strip steak and when the entree came out it was cold. We sent the steaks back around the entire table but when they came back they were still cold. The manger was nice enough to comp 50% off all steak prices and micheal our server was very helpful. The overall experience with the food we all agreed was a 4/10. The old style cooking that young hearts used to have was better prepared and better cooked then the food we had today. Drinks were great, service was solid and unfortunately food was below average. When spending over $100 for a meal you expect a great experience, unfortunately the food didn't meet the exceptions.. also I would avoid the pickle platter at all cost, nothing what we expected... maybe we missed the menu description. 1/10 tasting wise.

Elizabeth R.

Yelp
The food was great! My husband had the burger and I had the pork torchon. We would definitely get both again! The small plates looked great, but we did not order one. We sat outside on the rooftop patio. If you were familiar with the space before, the patio is now covered. There are heaters in the roof for cooler days and TVs outside. Try it out!

Skylar M.

Yelp
I was so excited to come here, the food and atmosphere looked amazing. However, I was incredibly disappointed by the service and quality of food and drinks. To begin, the service was terrible. Our waiter came to our table a total of 3 times, having been there an hour and a half. After we ordered our first round of drinks we had to track her down to order food. Moreover, the drinks were sub par. I expected much more from a distillery. Moreover, the food was a solid 4/10, nothing special, barely enjoyable. I'm upset and would like to see this place do well.... But they need to step up their game.

Jeff D.

Yelp
Unbelievable service from the moment we walked in. Very welcoming atmosphere. Great food and drinks. The cocktails were very creative and tasty, even for a beer drinker, which they have plenty of great options also of course.

Nicole B.

Yelp
The staff, especially the general manager (Kelsey), were extremely rude. I called ahead of time and spoke with both someone at Trophy AND Kelsey at Young Hearts mentioning that I wanted to host a work happy hour. During those conversations, they had no problem with our group informally gathering for a drink at the bar. However, upon our arrival we were greeted with an aggressive and nasty attitude. This was on a Wednesday at 5 PM, and the bar was completely empty... but they acted as if we were a massive inconvenience to them. Despite the fact that my group spent over $1,200 on food and drinks (likely over 90% of their revenue for that evening), we were treated extremely poorly. Several times, Kelsey raised her voice and argued with my colleagues in my group. I'm honestly still in shock about the entire situation... I've never seen a bar or restaurant with this poor of service. You can be sure that no one from my company (myself included) will be going to Young Hearts or even a Trophy establishment, ever again.

Rebecca V.

Yelp
The worst restaurant experience I have ever had in my entire life. I was entertaining friends from DC which made the experience even worse. Some of the staff was horrible!! We had reservations at Young Hearts and the assistant manager, Kellie Murphy was extremely rude and aggressive. The restaurant called to change our reservation stating they couldn't accommodate our party of 7 which we had reservations for and had to split our table into two tables and move our reservation back 15 min. Over the phone I said no worries on the change when we showed up we were 10 mins late to the reservation and they gave away our table. The front desk lady was so nice and said we could wait and we waited at the bar. The assistant manager came up to us at the bar and said it would be an hour wait because we were late and was extremely rude in her response as I was trying to explain the phone call moving our reservation back 15 min and she said that was impossible they would have that in their records and to prove it with my text or email and stood there until I could find the email/text. Trying to explain that it was done over the phone and my reservation was originally at 7:00pm and it was changed to 7:15pm over the phone. The assistant manager maybe we could find a bar that sucks less and next time maybe be on time.
