How Family-Run Noodle Business Yuen Hop Co. Has Endured for Nine Decades in Oakland’s Chinatown - Eater SF

"Yuen Hop Co. opened in 1931. Four generations later, it’s one of the oldest family-owned businesses in Oakland. The Quan family knows something about what it takes to keep a mom-and-pop operation alive: Over nine decades, they’ve built a business in Oakland’s Chinatown that’s become known as the place to buy noodles in the East Bay." - Laura Smith Borrman

Oakland Chinatown Food Businesses Stand in Solidarity With Black Lives Matter Protesters - Eater SF

"Anthony Quan, who runs the Yuen Hop Co. grocery store, a 90-year-old Chinatown institution known for its fresh noodles, is perhaps a typical case. Quan says he wouldn’t go so far as to say that he identifies with the protests himself, but he does “respect” them." - Luke Tsai

Where to Stock Up on Frozen Dumplings in the Bay Area | Eater SF

"This isn’t a restaurant, but it’s the premier destination in Oakland’s Chinatown if you’re on the hunt for fresh noodles or dumpling or wonton skins for your own home cooking. It isn’t currently selling frozen boiled dumplings, but it does have frozen pork and chicken potstickers available — $19.99 for a bag of about 38." - Luke Tsai

Giving this a good rating simply because their fresh noodles are really good. We got a packet of Hong Kong noodles which ended up tasting so springy and “Q”. They maintained a great taste and texture even 6 days later. It’s hard to find good Chinese noodles so I was impressed!

Best fresh noodles -- of all types -- in the East Bay. We typically buy the size for garlic noodles. They cook in boiling water in 2-3 minutes and have an excellent "chew" when eaten. Fabulous the next day as leftovers. Also a pretty decent little Asian market, too. I typically pick up some king oyster mushrooms every time I go there.

Yuen Hop has been around for a while. They have produce and various Chinese/Asian candies and dried goods. They have frozen dumplings and pot stickers. What they're most known for is their fresh noodles which you cook up yourself at home. Keep in mind that fresh noodles can go bad relatively quickly compared to dried noodles and some of them cook quicker than others.

I was running around this area @ 4:30 pm on a Saturday, trying to find hong bao (Chinese red envelopes) for a wedding that evening. Most of the other stores I’d scouted on Yelp were closed already, but luckily I came across this gem. The main storefront looked closed, but there was still a small section on the right that was open. And out in the front were a bunch of red envelopes on display. I asked the gentleman and lady if they had any recommendation for wedding red envelopes, and if they particularly had any with the double happiness symbol (囍). The lady kindly pulled out a basket that had a bunch of them, and I was able to get just what I needed for the wedding. Many thanks to them for helping me out!

One of the best small markets in Chinatown. They have been in business for approximately a century. Fresh noodles daily. Tofu, bags of rice, snacks. Tasty Canadian Chinese sausage. Frozen wontons & potstickers. Fruits, vegetables, & so many cooking staples. Friendly & quick cashiers.

i find this place distinct from other local grocers for their fresh and dry noodles, tofu/bean curd/bean sprouts/fresh shiitake, and locally-made frozen dumplings in the freezer section. reasonable prices and helpful staff.

This is THE place to get your fresh noodles and wonton or dumpling wrappers! They have a wide selection of egg noodles (thick, thin, etc.) and multiple cuts and sheets of fresh rice noodles (great for making chow fun or pad see ew). I buy the thick dumpling wrappers when I am on a dumpling making frenzy and they come out perfectly and stand up to my pan fried technique. Yuen Hop has a number of other fresh items at the check out counter like soy milk and tofu (not made in house) that is usually still warm. They also have fresh mochi that some of my friends swear by. The store itself is stocked with Chinese grocery staples and some fresh veggies and fruit in the front. Service is the usual brisk and transactional Chinatown style with the Asian grannies cutting you in line. Yuen Hop is still a gem of a grocery store.
