Popular, no-frills venue for specialty Chinese noodle dishes, soups & dumplings.
"Crossing The Bridge Noodles As the name suggests, this place specializes in Yunnan food, specifically a Chinese soup called crossing the bridge noodles - a one-dish meal that’s one of our single favorite things to eat in Sunset Park. It arrives disassembled, with raw strips of beef or lamb, some vegetables, a heap of rice noodles, and a large bowl of extremely fragrant (and very hot) chicken broth to cook everything. Keep in mind that this place is takeout-only right now, so if you’re looking for a weeknight meal that doesn’t involve food from your freezer, consider your search complete." - nikko duren
"Yun Nan Flavour Garden is one of the city’s first Yunnan restaurants, an offshoot of a much smaller noodle shop farther north in Sunset Park specializing in mixian rice noodles. Crossing-the-bridge noodles (lamb or beef) are a classic that shouldn’t be missed." - Robert Sietsema
"As the name suggests, this place specializes in Yunnan food, specifically something called crossing the bridge noodles - a one-dish meal that’s one of our single favorite things to eat in Sunset Park. It arrives disassembled at your table, with raw strips of beef or lamb, some vegetables, a heap of rice noodles, and a large bowl of extremely fragrant (and very hot) chicken broth to cook everything. If you don’t feel like consuming a large amount of soup, there’s also plenty of other stuff like rice cakes, broth-less noodles, and meat-filled dumplings in a sweet and sour broth (another great choice). This place is cash-only, and it’s ideal for a quick weeknight meal with a group." - Bryan Kim
"Yun Nan Flavor Garden is an institution in and of itself, one of the city’s first restaurants to serve Yunnan food. Here, the focus is mixian, white rice noodles that can be found in soups like a rich and flavorful crispy meat option or in the cold form with incredibly sweet and salty ground pork and peanuts. Cash only." - Pelin Keskin
"This is where it all started, from chef-owner Side Geng. At one time it was the only real Yunnan restaurant in the city, successor to an even smaller place called Yun Nan Flavour Snack on 49th Street, where just a handful of rice noodle dishes were offered. At the newer place, founded in 2014, crossing the bridge noodles are front and center (with black chicken among the ingredients) but two dozen other dry and soupy noodle dishes are available. Some feature crispy pig intestines, pork stew, and sliced beef, plus there’s a roster of snacks and appetizers." - Robert Sietsema
