Place was amazing - once I walked in I knew it was going to be good. Clean environment. Very friendly server. Telling us in depth about each dish and also chatting about the history of the restaurant. The best part was watching them make sushi for a takeout order - and how they carefully did a QA check on every single piece of sushi and talking about each piece. I love the dedication to excellence.

It’s a fine dining Japanese restaurant. Environment is very good. 4 of us have not been there before so asked for some recommendations. Shitake Nikuzume is tasty that is tempura chicken stuffed in Japanese mushroom doesn’t feel oily. Rest of sushi and salmon tartare do not feel very special but the ingredients used is fresh. Overall a bit pricey with the quality of food. Restaurant has outdoor sittings and inside has sushi bar sittings. Reservations are recommended

We were visiting from Washington state. USA has won so many awards because of their authentic food that is wonderfully prepared and great service. I was also impressed. We will be back on our next trip !

This is a cozy Japanese restaurant with excellent service, quality ingredients and expertly prepared food by people who obviously care. All of the dishes were tasty and I would be glad to order any of them again. The Wagyu Strip Loin Steak comes with a fun table side finish that the family thought fun. The Ebi Shinjo Bits were amazingly light and fluffy. The Tofu Avocado Salad has an amazingly crisp and refreshing dressing. Bill for everything down came to about $265 CAD, but given the quality of the did and service we would come back again.

The kaiseki dinner was incredibly disappointing. I have no idea why this place is a Michelin guide restaurant. Our "grilled course" came presented to us as "scallops sauteed in butter. The scallops were small pieces not even whole pieces. Nothing about this dish was grilled. The "palette cleanser" was a dish with fried agedashi mochi and agedashi radish. It followed the "fried course", which was a very bizarre choice. I'm not sure if this restaurant understands what palette cleanser means. As a whole, the meal lacked cohesion and vision. The ingredients were subpar. Definitely not worth the price and would not recommend.

Had Christmas eve dinner here. Service was great, the restaurant had a good ambience. Quality of the food was very inconsistent though. Sockeye salmon tartar and tori hot pot are great but not mind-blown. The tempura is a disaster. The coating is thick, oily and soggy. The wagyu striploin doesn’t taste like wagyu at all. The flavor and texture are more like the super lean grass fed beef from supermarkets. These ingredient and cooking technique flaws are not what we would expect from an upscale Japanese restaurant.

Great food, decent service, and neighbourhood street parking. Parking is free neighbourhood street parking since the small parking lot in front has been converted into an outdoor patio. This neighbourhood has plenty of that. The food was great. I had to adjust my perception of the dishes as they were all tapas-style small dishes. This post-pandemic era of pricing makes most prices a little high but worth it still if you value great food. We had two servers, the first one was fine as he only took our order. I saw he later was serving the tables on the patio. The second server was fine, too, but his presence was missed a couple of times when we desired something. This could be due to the location of our table being tucked around a corner and didn't have visibility from the main part of the dining room. Both were professional, friendly, and accommodating of my companions' requests for recommendations. I first ate here at Zest and now at Yuwa. I will definitely be back.
