YUZU OMAKASE SUSHI

This restaurant puts up a solid case for best sushi in Arizona. The $95 omakase is very reasonable for the quality and taste of the sushi. The chef was very knowledgably and kind, answered any questions I threw at him, he was also very funny. I will definitely be returning in the future.

Omakase experience was unreal and unexpected. Every fish was fresh and had the same texture as if we were eating it in Japan or Taiwan. They even had fish from Yuma which was a surprise. The chef made mouth watering combinations to highlight the fish/eel/uni and we definitely ordered another round of our favorites after the omakase. Overall pleasantly surprised! Don’t let the location fool you!! It’s a gem of a sushi place.

Had the 10-piece omakase lunch. Everything was absolutely delicious. Each piece of fish was perfectly cut and very tender with excellent flavors. The rice was very well cooked and the overall experience was superb. Very happy to have this new sushi restaurant in my neighborhood.

The omakase was phenomenal. Easily 5 stars. We were in heaven with every carefully crafted bite. What threw us off was the ambiance, which deserves a 3. The space looks and feels more like a basic sushi joint / sports bar, with TVs playing sporting matches right in front of the omakase bar, club music blaring, fake plants, and just not much attention paid to atmosphere. I have no doubt that should the owners match the ambiance and space to the exquisite quality of the food, Yuzu would be even better.

Booked the omakase! The chef was very friendly and accommodating ensured everyone had a great time! This was different from other omakases I’ve had in the past as those ones were really focused on ingredients and kept flavors simple and minimal to highlight by the quality of those ingredients. Yuzu was a nice surprise as there was a lot of play with different flavor combinations and using non-traditional ingredients. I enjoyed this as it incorporated some local ingredients from AZ and influenced by some of the local cuisines. Every bite was a delight! Still thinking about that hand roll. Good indicator of ingredient quality was the uni as it was creamy and savory. If you’ve had bad uni you know mean. Overall for the price of $85 it’s definitely worth it for the number of courses and if you are looking for a more lowkey omakase experience. *Just please be respectful on arriving on time as it can throw off the timing for chef if some people show up late.

It was our anniversary so we decided to enjoy a unique experience here. After reading the reviews, we booked an Omakase experience for two. Similar to many other reviews, we had an amazing and memorable experience. Each dish was made in front of us. We were educated on what we were eating, where each fish came from (all fresh, by the way). We had some seasonal options. Each one was unique and SO delicious! We had 13 courses and a cup of miso soup (also very delicious). Omasake was not something that I thought should be on a bucket list but I highly recommend everyone who enjoys sushi to experience this at least once in their life. A couple came in to see if they could sit in for Omasake but they were turned away. So note to everyone, book online beforehand to secure your spot.

I explained that I had booked a table, not Omakase, and that my wife doesn’t eat sushi. This led to a confrontation that lasted what felt like far too long, completely spoiling what could have been a perfect day. Despite the rocky start, we still ordered quite a bit, hoping to make the best of the experience. Unfortunately, the sushi was average at best, and the up-charges for searing were absolutely ridiculous. In hindsight, we shouldn’t have bothered—it wasn’t worth it. Coming from the restaurant world, I can confidently say that being a great chef doesn’t necessarily mean you can also be the face of the restaurant or handle the business side effectively, even if it’s your own establishment.

Yuzu Omakase!!!! Highly recommend!!!! If you are a lover of sushi, this is an amazing experience and expression of sushi. You get to try 12 different sushi creations. The chef is knowledgeable and awesome. Perfect date night.

I had the pleasure of eating the omakase experience here and it was incredibly delicious. Thank you chef for a memorable meal and the recommendations in Japan (Futagoyama beya forever). We even had local fish which was a pleasant surprise. We sat, we dined, we drank, and we laughed. All the things necessary for a truly great night!

Didn't have a great experience here, although from the sounds of the reviews the Omakase experience is the right way to eat here. My wife and I were just looking to try out regular roll's and some Sashimi. The special rolls were just not great from an appearance or taste standpoint. (See picture). The pickled peppers, load of imitation crab, and mediocre fish I'd give a 3/10. They offer bluefin tuna rolls but either they are sourcing very low quality bluefin or it's not bluefin and being marketed as such. The price point for them was low but I thought maybe they are subsidizing trying to grow. Nope, just lower quality tuna. The service was what I'd expect from a higher end sushi spot where they don't often dote on you like typical US restaurants which was perfectly fine. The food was just very meh and our experience was the opposite of what we saw in many other yelp reviews. I think I'd only do the Omakase if I were to go there.

Came in on a weekend night and didn't need a reservation. We were in the area after looking at some Christmas lights and found this place on Yelp. It is a smaller sushi restaurant but sitting at the bar felt super authentic, also since the owner/chef is Japanese. Sushi was prepped right in front of you at the bar which was fun to watch. Also they use an iPad type ordering system for food and drinks which is very cool too. Price was a little high, but have definitely have eaten at more expensive Asian restaurants. Worth a try and would absolutely come back!

Ventured here on a weeknight after going out to see lights. You get to order through a tablet. Soju and sake selection were varied. The sushi selection was overall was a great mixture of commonly seen sushi and unique rolls including waygu caviar. High quality food. Would return to try more!

I flew in for the Omakase experience and it did not disappoint. The fish was so fresh to the point I had to ask the chef where is he getting it in the dessert. Every bite was amazing and worth the 95.00. I even ordered hot sake which was only 12.00 dollars. My only wish was that they wrapped the sake bottle in a warm towel as the sake cooled off towards the end. Total combined for both chefs, they have 24yrs of experience which speaks volumes for the taste, how they used seasonal ingredients and how they were in sink during the prep for each course.

First time at this 9months old omakase style restaurant. Overall excellent food variety and great taste. This restaurant ONLY SERVES omakase and some Take outs. Limited seating, so better make reservations before coming. Service is pretty decent for this type of dining experience. Chef speaks good English, so communication was very easy and effective.

YUMMYYYY!!! I DoorDashed this place once and was impressed - but had to try in person. The restaurant is so cute and clean. The workers were soo kind! But let me tell you the food was unbelievable!!!! This time I ordered to Yuzu Box w the Poke Roll + (I don't remember what it's called) but WOWWW!!!! I'm a CA sushi person so I am particular, but this is my go-to place! YOU NEED TO TRY!

Made a reservation for omakase after hearing great things about this from a friend and then reading Chef Yusuke's biography. Hailing from Osaka Japan and putting in work at Tsuji culinary academy and then working at Nobu in Beverly Hills, I had very high expectations. It's very easy to find and plenty of parking in the little strip mall. Upon entering Chef Yosuke and team greeted us warmly and got us prepped for the experience. I've only had omakase one other time in New York and there's a casualness that can throw you off at Yuzu Omakase due to the decor and location but don't let that fool you. This sushi was great and Chef Yusuke sources his fish from all over many of the pieces coming from Japan directly. But the way he's mixing those flavors were insane and for the price of $85 I feel like it's an amazing value for 13 pieces. Big pieces of fish on the rice too not skimpy. There was only 1 piece that I felt was not as good as the others and that was the Steak Tenderloin, but that's my opinion. There were also some flavors like the Yuzu Aguacate that is drizzled on the fish that is very unique, and depending on how you feel about that flavor profile can push you off. However, the flavors were very well done and Chef likes to integrate different textures in. Ingredients were super fresh as you can see them as he's working with them. Loved seeing the details he puts on the fish in front of you, and it was great to watch a master work. I do want to highlight the last thing served to us which was the Japanese Mountain Peach. I've never heard of that in my life, and this was such a fun treat at the end. Legit blew my mind because it just was such a great way to cap off the experience. Really enjoyed the omakase experience - highly recommend you stop by and see for yourself!

A new(er) omakase service in Phoenix. Great pictures but somehow offering omakase for $85 made Yuzu quite intriguing on how the quality for price would play out. Short answer: totally worth it! It is a small, but very pretty space and the omakase is by reservation only. The iPads for ordering drinks and a la carte is a nice touch and allowed Chef Yu to work his magic. The quality was great, either pretty classic nigiris either the occasional modern dressing. With so many great sushi places popping up, it's hard to rank Yuzu as the best. However, the value absolutely sets it apart. We got 14 pieces for $85 which is amazing. The quality is not to be understated either. I thoroughly enjoyed the experience and Yuzu may have just made it possible for me to enjoy omakase more frequently!

This new neighborhood gem is so cute! I happened across it by accident. They have several seatings a day for preplanned omakase so check in advance. The server seemed a bit confused when I showed up as a walk in, but we got it figured out . Love the $85 price point since most places charge over $100. I wandered in on a Thursday night and put my hand in for a 6pm seating. The chef provided 13 sushi tastings and a handroll. Everything was fabulous. The walk into the establishment toward the bar is lovely and intimate. This is a true omakase experience with a mini presentation per bite by Chef Yusu himself. You eat with your fingers and enjoy one bite at a time. My favorites were the sea bass with plum sauce, sweet shrimp, and the sea urchin over caviar with lemon zest. Yes! I'd skip the rice on that one next time so nothing competes with the sea urchin. The tenderloin with truffle sauce was decadent and the giant clam my incredible! Melted in my mouth! Lovely ending with blue crab handful. The chef is such a sweetheart and so well-mannered. My only suggestion for atmosphere would be to turn the music up a tad for energy and to engage guests a bit more or get customers chatting with one another so a more lively, fun vibe for all guests!

We did takeout for our first time. I recognize I didn't get the full effect of the experience by not dining in buy I love the location as we need more good places to eat in the area. Got 2 omakase and one rainbow roll. The rainbow roll was good. The fish is a good quality for being in Arizona. The omakase was good but wished there was a bit more variety to match the price. Other than that, we enjoyed our meals and look forward to the next visit!

We are frequent omakase diners in San Diego, and this was the weakest experience we've had. There was no proper greeting, the staff looked unprofessional, and our waiter mumbled dish explanations so half the table didn't even know what we were eating. The chef also failed to explain why dishes were served, which defeats the purpose of omakase. The restaurant was dirty, and we knew right away this would be an odd experience. The fish was poorly handled. Cuts were overly thick and chewy, and pieces were left sitting out and warming on the table. After the chef assembled the nigiri, assistants came in afterward and sloppily slapped sauces on top, completely undermining the presentation. There were unnecessary gimmicks throughout the meal, like Parmesan crisps on hamachi and sweet potato crisps on trout. Sushi should be simple and ingredient-focused, not overloaded with forced textures. The meal ended with a handroll served with piping hot rice that immediately soggied the seaweed into a stretchy mess, basic sushi execution failure. To top it off, we were told we were eating "local" sea bass from Yuma, Arizona. Overpriced, misrepresented, and amateur. If you care about real omakase, avoid this place.

Yuzu @ home (lunch menu?) is a steal for its price! Got the yuzu SP and rainbow rolls - tasty. The yuzu/ponzu sauce that came with the salmon and the aguachile sauce with the tuna were both super tasty so we dipped our cut rolls in them. Cut rolls were on the smaller side, but for the quality & taste, decent pricing! Would definitely come back. Came for lunch and no reservations needed. Though if you want the omakase, you need reservation.

Best omakase in town! And for a reasonable price. Located in an unassuming strip mall, this small-ish sushi place hits the spot We tried the omakase on the 6-seat only counter. All pieces were well curated but some of our favorites were the toro, mackerel, Japanese yellowtail, uni.

It's a small, intimate place, you get to see everything going on. Everything was fresh, the rice was perfect, and I felt perfectly full after - not too much, not too little. Looking for the next excuse to go again (it's a bit expensive at $95/seat, but worth the experience and flavor! This place was small and quaint and absolutely perfect for an experience that the sushi chef delicately and carefully curated for us. The sushi combinations were ALL delicious.

Instead, I got the "Hi, here's your fish, bye" treatment. C'mon guys, if I wanted cold, impersonal sushi served via conveyor belt, I'd hit up Kura Sushi--at least the robots there smile at me! Let's talk small talk. Yusuke-san, staff: lighten up! Making conversation was like pulling unagi bones. Your website is great, sure, but if I wanted your biography I'd whip out my reading glasses. I wanted your story live, not on an "About Me" page! I even told you this was my maiden voyage at your joint and didn't want to wait for the 20:00 omakase reservation. I curated my own version--bold move, I know--but you didn't meet me halfway. Next time, pace the sushi! Present it in a way that respects the fish and my taste buds. Take a cue from Sugarfish (I promise, nobody in Phoenix will notice you borrowed their moves--trust me, they're busy melting). Hand roll timing? Epic fail. Seaweed was soggier than a monsoon-drenched Phoenix street. Garnishes? MIA. Black Cod and Red Shrimp deserved better, folks. And what's with the nickel-and-dime routine? Want your scallops or albacore seared? Pay up! Want a sprinkle of caviar as a garnish? Fork over more cash! It's like flying economy on a budget airline--every little extra has an up-charge. Not cool, Yuzu! The iPads, though? Keep 'em. Loved tracking my ever-escalating bill in real-time (seriously, genius idea!). But here's the real kicker: cordless phone juggling while serving sushi? My husband and I had a reservation for the Omakase experience for Valentines. Overall, the food was tasty, fresh, and unique. You can tell the chef took his time creating the menu. The space is quaint. So I would suggest making reservations even if you don't do Omakase. The place does get quite busy so reservations would help. The chef/owner was personable and friendly. You can tell he loves his craft and he has great customer service.

Tried yuzu for the first time and wasn't disappointed! I got the yuzu sp roll and the yellowtail roll! The fish was so fresh and melt in your mouth! The quality of fish is unbeatable and I think their takeout prices are really fair!

Had omakase reservations for 7:30pm on a Saturday night. The omakase option is by reservation only fyi. Seating was at the bar top area by the chef's station. The sushi chef for the experience was meticulous in each piece he crafted. There is a tablet for each diner so that we can see what's on course and to add or deny options. Every garnish, seasoning, etc., was carefully chosen to complement each piece! Definitely a reasonable and affordable option for omakase. At this time of writing, it was $85/person.

I've been to a few omakase restaurants and this one ranks right up there with the best of them. The small seating area reminds me of the some of the better bay area sushi places where you have to book months in advance. Luckily the word isn't out on Yuzu yet and we were able to get a reservation. When I first started eating sushi, my Japanese friend he told me you eat it with your fingers. Yuzu keeps that tradition going and they give you a cloth to wipe your fingers. Sitting at the sushi bar is the place to be so you can see the detail that goes into each piece of sushi. Nice selection of sake and a great selection of sushi. It's an interesting location being in a small strip mall but some of my favorite restaurants are in non-descript locations so don't let that stop you from visiting.

I'm happy to see a new omakase place opened up in AZ. It's probably the best I've had so far for a reasonable price too $85! The restaurant is clean but is a bit small. I don't think they even have a bathroom but it defitnely gives a traditional omakase experience. The chef is very nice and can tell he's passionate about his job, the service was nice and was very accommodating to you. I would recommend anyone to come here and they only been open for a month now and doing great!

WOW!!!! If I could give this place 10 stars I would!! My husband and I live 1 minute from here and I saw the sign. You need to make a reservation because it is a VERY intimate dining experience with you, the chef, and only 5 other people seated in the whole place at a time- so Omakase style. Everything was SUPER fresh and delicious- this will be the freshest sushi you will find in all of arizona!!! I really don't think it can get better than here. The chef was so nice!!! I loved the experience. Our new sushi spot for sure- the chefs tasting menu is ALOT OF FOOD at a great price of $85 per person. I am telling everybody about this place I won't be surprised if it's the new "hot spot" in arizona that will take weeks to get a reservation. 12/10 experience!!!! :)

Yuzu Omakase is a very special place for sushi lovers. We did the omakase at lunch and I made a big mistake but they were super accommodating to us. We appreciate it so much. The food is sooo delicious and creative. Quality of the food is up there. If you're thinking of trying, this is your sign to go for it! The ambiance is intimate. I felt the food and whole experience exceeded expectations. I don't even know if I have a favorite because it is THAT GOOD. I will definitely be back!!!

Each nigiri had a distinct, delicious flavor. I loved the back and forth between more fresh nigiri and seared nigiri. The atmosphere was very comfortable, and it was enjoyable chatting with the sushi chef as we ate. The price is incredibly reasonable for such a quality omakase experience. I also have tried ordering takeout prior to this omakase experience and enjoyed that as well!

We would love to try this local sushi place, but we have attempted three times, each finding it closed 1.5 hours before their advertised closing time.

Fantastic value, very fresh! Booked dinner omakase for 4 @ 7:30pm. Yuzu is located in a nondescript strip mall. What a treat. Seated at the chefs counter and served 13 exquisitely prepared nigiri and finished with a crab hand roll and miso soup. Nigiri included: O-toro, wagyu beef, yellowtail, charred black cod, and bluefin tuna. Super fresh and delicious-super value at $85/person + tax and gratuities. I've been to other places with comparable quality charging at least twice as much. The restaurant is new; they have only been in the space for 2 months, which explains the decor. But the quality of the seafood, and the friendly, efficient service, more than makes up for it. We will absolutely come again!

We had an amazing intimate date night here for the private chefs omakase tasting experience and it was amazing. Great deal for $85 dollars a person! The fish was extremely fresh and had a beautiful presentation! The chef was very friendly and explained everything to us as he prepared it! The yuzu sake is amazing I had two bottles of it! Normally I leave from sushi and I am hungry an hour later, but not after I left yuzu I was sooooo full and happy! The restaurant is very quint and adorable! We have been to other omakase restaurants and they were twice the price. I highly recommend this restaurant especially for date nights! Very romantic and delicious! We will definitely be back!

What an experience! Yuzu is an up and coming sushi hotspot in the Phoenix area that I was able to go to for Omakase. This was my first time doing Omakase, but fortunately, it wasn't too difficult. Just sit back, relax, and enjoy watching the sushi chef masterfully craft each element of your meal with the freshest seasonal ingredients he can gather that day. A rotating selection offers fun surprises in each bite. I always have lots of questions when it comes to something like this, but the staff were so welcoming and eager to answer. They matched our excitement which helped contribute to a fun and special dinner. The restaurant itself is pretty small so look into a reservation, but it is clean and cozy and couldn't have asked for anything more in terms of the atmosphere. Personally, I didn't love every single bite of sushi, but they sure were inventive. Even the offerings that ranked lower on my list at the end of the night were still joyful to eat and I could appreciate the creative juxtapositions of flavors, temperatures, and textures. That being said, there was no short supply of incredible mouthfuls and all four of us loved our time at Yuzu!

My Valentine's Day Omakase experience was good, but just that. Although we were the first couple to arrive for the 6:30 reservation, we were seated at the end which meant... listening to Gordon Ramsey on the TV while watching in the distance the nigiri being made with a side of watching the take out orders. The experience should really cap at 6 people. I was served last and always around the corner because of the set up of the experience. The previous reservation was still going when we got there and I was seated with a previous customers water. That being said, I give the chef and the food the recognition they deserve. Food was excellent itself. Each nigiri comes with a piece of wasabi and the chef is pleasant. This would be worth it and I would 100% try this again, but in a different view. Overall great, but just don't be the couple to sit at the end I guess ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

This is a north Phoenix gem. Smaller restaurant so reservations are good idea. Been there for both omakase and ordering off the regular menu... everything was extremely fresh and delicious. Seared otoro... enough said. This is a 5star restaurant through and through. Will be back again and again

The atmosphere is incredibly intimate, making it feel like you're dining at a friend's house. The chef is not only skilled but also incredibly friendly, making the experience even more enjoyable. The rice-to-fish ratio is perfect, and the fish is also fresh - I was told it's flown in daily and the menu is curated to cater to the season. For the quality of food and service, the price is definitely worth it. I can't wait to come back again. If you're an omakase lover, this place is a must-try!

Sushi was good but the iPad ordering with no real waiter was a bummer. When spending $300-$400 on a quality dinner, the wait staff plays a huge roll in the experience. We came in, was told to have a seat, water and share plates were brought to us and that was about it. No "have you guys dined with us before" no "do you have any questions", felt very impersonal and that is unfortunate. Being from San Diego where great sushi is somewhat easy to find, we have done plenty of omakase over the years. This style would not fly in many major cities so for that reason, I have to give it a 3 star review

I've eaten sushi throughout most of Japan and the United States. This is as good as can be found anywhere. The chef is top notch and his creations are each unique, yet complement the meal as a whole perfectly. And the value for the price is insane. You won't find better. I cannot recommend YuZu enough!

This place is the top of my sushi spots in AZ. One of the best omakases I've had in a long time. We ordered the $85 Omakase menu and it was worth every penny. The fish was great quality and the rice was perfectly cooked and seasoned to perfection. It was a pleasure chatting with the chef/owner as well. You can tell he is very passionate about what he does. We'll definitely be coming back soon.

Part 2 review because this turns out to be a great place for date night omakase and a casual family dinner. I came back with my 2 little kids. We felt very welcome which is not always the case walking in as one adult and 2 small kids. The food was excellent again. The table ordering is super easy and it's easy to modify things which is key with the kids. My preschooler has declared this his favorite sushi now!

One of my friends told me this restaurant and we visited for my husband 30th birthday dinner. It was such a nice experience!

Best omakase I have ever had! Every piece was so delicious, so flavorful, so perfectly balanced - the chef is a true genius. The ambiance was comfortable and intimate and the service was excellent. We can't wait to come back! THANK YOU for a perfect meal!

Ridiculously good. Meticulous presentation. We haven't had omekase like this since LA and it's so exciting that it's in north Phoenix! The sushi chef came from Nobu in LA. Omekase menu changes based on fish in season - which is good because I intend to go back and it would be nice to try different things. Make a reservation at the bar and enjoy! I was so stuffed.

What a treat! Came here with hubby for our anniversary. Each piece is well prepared and made fresh! The taste is incredible! This meal reminds me of my celebration dinner at a Omakase with one Michelin star in Tokyo. I am so glad we get to have this in Phoenix! Every bite is pure enjoyment. If you want real and good sushi, get your reservation!

Amazing Omakase experience. The fish was incredibly fresh and flavorful. We were the only party during the seating so were able to interact directly with the Chef which made it a ver intimate and interesting experience. Would definitely recommend if you are willing to try new fish and flavors.
