Zhejiang Heen

"Run by a group of Hongkongers of Zhejiang descent, this traditionally furnished restaurant boasts universal appeal. On the menu, Zhejiang delicacies rub shoulders with Shanghainese specialities. Make sure you pre-order ‘snatched tiger tails’ – seared swamp eel in a brown sauce that reveal exquisite knife work and a springy texture. Also check out the seasonal dishes and excellent buns and pastries. Friendly, unobtrusive service." - Michelin Inspector

The 38 Best Restaurants in Hong Kong | Eater

"After Cantonese immigrants from neighboring Guangdong province, the second most prominent group of people in Hong Kong hail from Shanghai. Trade groups and fraternities associated with the region are still going strong, and one of the trade groups opened Zhe Jiang Heen as a sort of restaurant‐slash‐clubhouse. Luckily you don’t have to be brokering a deal in Shanghai to gain access, so everyone can get a taste of classic Shanghainese dishes like shrimp stir‐fried with Longjing tea leaves, smoked eggs, and hongshao rou (slow‐cooked pork belly in a dark soy and vinegar sauce). Great food. Great service and Great ambience. Hairy crab seasonal dish was great. Pastries can be better but already quite decent. Preserved ham and chicken soup was really tasty. Don't worry, you have a choice to Not order it with shark's fin and I also didn't. Don't miss out the starters. Sorry no photos, Crispy eel, Fried stinky tofu, Chopped leaves with bean curd and sesame oil, Preserved radish, etc. Fried pot stickers are perfect as well.

We recently had the pleasure of dining at Zhejiang Heen, a Michelin-awarded restaurant, and the experience was nothing short of spectacular 🌟. Despite its three floors, the place is always bustling with diners, so making a reservation is a must 📞. The menu boasted a variety of famous dishes, some of which are in limited quantity and easily sold out 🍲🔥. This added an exciting challenge to our dining experience, making it even more special when we got to try them. A unique surprise was the Hua Diao wine 🍷, which is typically used for cooking in Chinese cuisine. We decided to drink it instead, and it was surprisingly delightful, adding a new layer of enjoyment to our meal. We rounded off our dinner with some exquisite desserts 🍰🍨, which were the cherry on top of a very pleasant dining experience. The waitresses deserve a special mention for their exceptional service 👩‍🍳👍. They were knowledgeable, attentive, and made sure our evening was memorable. Overall, Zhejiang Heen is a must-visit for anyone who appreciates fine dining and authentic Chinese cuisine. Just remember to book in advance!

If you look for Zhejiang and Shanghai food, this one is one of the safest options. I treated Korean guests and they liked.

Decent dinner place for Shanghainese cuisine with the Chinese interior design style. Food-wise i enjoyed the drunken pigeon in shaoxing wine, sliced eel’s back with garlic, double-boiled conch meat with aweto flower soup, tofu skin with Zhejiang vegetables! Awesome services. You need to make reservations and pre-order several popular dishes!

This place is always full so make sure you make reservations, and some food require pre-ordered. My family and I love the smoked egg, the pigeon marinated in Shao xing wine and the crispy fried chicken. The fried thick noodle is good too but it is a bit oily for me. I have tried the wontons with chicken soup in the crocked pot before, and I think it is highly recommended if there are more people to share with. Btw, I prefer a more crispier crust for the red bean crepe, so the one they served has a thicker texture. I think it is quite an authentic Shanghainese restaurant for families.

Finally try this one at my husband’s mum birthday, my friend always goes there for dinner so I wanted to try for so long. Overall, their food are nice. His mum was so surprised with the big birthday bun that we pre-ordered lol. Glad that they all like this restaurant. Can definitely come back again. P.S. they have two slots, better book the later slot if u want more time with ur family.

Yelp
During COVID era the family opted a private room to celebrate birthdays. We had small dishes like fried crispy eel, Chinese buns with preserved ham, fried tofu, fried rice cake, we are also in the tail end of crab roe season so the noodles were delicious. Food came out too fast since the place was not busy with COVID resurgence at this time. We had to ask them not to bring it out so quickly so we can enjoy our email.

Yelp
Our friend took us here for dinner one night and it was so good and special. The pork meatballs were soft and delicious and with some cabbage in the sauce so good. The fish that looked like noodles and had firm consistency was so good. The tofu veggies in soupy broth and the fake roast goose tofu also so good. The best was this cone shaped rice cake stuffed with chicken and rice and water chestnut. It was slightly sweet and savory and so unique and amaze balls. For the 3 of us it was about $150 and plenty of leftovers and so delicate and tasty. I was too stuffed to try to order more. Service was good without being overbearing and they let us sit and talk without making us feel like we needed to leave. Bathrooms nice and clean. I don't know what that rice cracker cone dish is but it was one of my favorite bites of food I had Whole in HK

Yelp
This place sells Zhejiang style food and it's quite delicious. Lots of unique dishes that I've never tried before. We were able to make a dinner reservation the day of on a weekday. Ordered a bunch of dishes to share. baby shrimp - tastes great with the accompanying sauce Egg whites faux crabs - interesting dish. egg white that is made to somehow have the same consistency as crab. Steamed stinky tofu - not as stinky as normal fried tofu but similar taste albeit much softer when you bite into it Braised beef - beef is so tender and they cut it into bite size pieces for us XLB - great consistency with plenty of juice and a thin, chewy skin. Pan Fried buns - not much juice inside at all. salted pork and steamed cabbage - the salted pork tasted like prosciutto and the steamed cabbage helps balance out the flavor Overall, I really liked this restaurant. Lots of uncommon Zhejiang style dishes to try here which really widened my appreciation for chinese food.

Yelp
Zhe Jiang Heen is a family favorite for Shanghainese cuisine in Hong Kong. It has a membership system, but one does not need a membership in order to make a reservation or dine here. Overall, coming from Shanghai, I would say the restaurant is on-par with shanghainese restaurants in Shanghai. The shanghainese pork + bamboo soup was mediocre but that's a hard soup to make for restaurants. They're generally better home made. Decor and service are both fairly good and location is great! It looks like a hole in the wall from the elevator lobby but once you get into the restaurant, you won't be disappointed.

Yelp
If you want authentic Shanghaiese food, look no further than Zhejiang Heen, which boasts one of the most comprehensive menus for this important culinary region in China. Taking up 3 whole floors of an office building in Wanchai, the restaurant/dining club is tastefully decorated without being too gaudy. The hardy pistachio-green chinaware serves as the perfect backdrop for the yummy dishes they have to offer. Bottom line: must try dishes include the smoked eggs, pickled daikon, and fried crab and edamame with sliced rice sticks (nien gao) in dark sauce. The braised lion-head (giant pork meatballs) in broth with napa cabbage is not to be missed.

Yelp
Food (** out of *****); I ordered the Shanghainese peeled shrimp dish and it was not fresh. It smelled stinky. Not good. If this was all I ordered, the restaurant would've gotten 1 star for food quality. This is shocking in a MICHELIN STARRED restaurant. Lucky for them, they also served me some other dishes, which were tasty, albeit a bit cold. None of the dishes were hot. This meant that their problem was letting food sit around at improper temperatures. In other words, their waiters waited too long to bring out the dishes and/or their chefs did not follow proper food handling procedure. The crispy rice hand rolls filled with chicken were tasty and original. I've never seen this served in any other restaurant. Their fried eel skin in ginger bbq sauce was a bit too sweet, but still tasty and very crunchy. The crispy Shanghainese chicken was good, but not all that crispy. The sour and spicy soup, I had special ordered for the chef to make without pork and substituted shrimp instead. It was ok. The smoked eggs did not smell smoky at all. However, they were artfully poached with the yolks semi solid, not fully liquid, but not fully solid, either. This is hard to do. The pickles were not store bought but house made and were ok. Their dishes, while creative at times, lacked that extra touch. For example, the smoked eggs would've wowed me if they actually smelled smoky. The eel skin dish would've been really impressive if they deboned the eel and fried it with the flesh instead of just serving the peeled skin. Finally, unless it's a dessert or a cold dish appetizer (like Korean Ban Chan), food always tastes better HOT. Everything here was either cold or tepid. Not good. I wouldn't be so picky if this was McDonald's, but this is supposed to be a Michelin starred restaurant. Honestly, out of the 6 Michelin Starred restaurants I've tried in Hong Kong,Zhe Jiang Heen and Yung Kee were the worst, both serving cold, uninspired food. Service (***** out of *****); They were really accommodating and specially prepared dishes to my guests dietary specifications, which many restaurants in Hong Kong won't do. The Hot and Sour soup is usually made with pork, but they made it with shrimp, especially for us. Since, I wasn't sure whether the cold food was the waiter's fault or the chef's fault, I did not dock any points from the service category for the food being cold. They'll also check up on you periodically. Atmosphere (***** out of *****); They have private dining rooms for that VIP dining experience, so be sure to call ahead for a reservation. The dining rooms are tastefully decorated and have a TV in the rooms, too. Conclusion (**** out of *****); I wouldn't go out of my way to come here, unless you have a dietary restriction that is unusual and hard to accommodate in other restaurants. The food is good and creatively made, but cold and not 5 star in quality.

Yelp
Awesome Shanghainese style with some Cantonese dishes thrown in the mix. The eight treasure duck ($420) (preordering is a must) is a must-try, so are the rice cracker wrapped chicken or beef ($50 per piece) and the smoked fish starter. With a bottle of red and plenty food to go round this dinner came to $350 per person, much better than the super popular Liu Yuan Pavillion nearby... Took a star off for the lack of staff around to service on a weeknight.

Yelp
Very disappointed with my experience here, booked a table, spoke in English and even called them again when I was going to be 15 minutes late. When we arrived they proceeded to give us the Chinese a la carte menu. When I asked the waiters, not 1 of them spoke English, I asked them for set menu, they only pointed to the dinner set menus at 888 for 1 or 2 people. We asked to speak to the manager & proceeded to wait 15 more minutes before we left, it was clear we were not Chinese speakers and they couldn't speak English nor had any of the set menu or normal menu in English.

Yelp
Brought here by some local friends for an authentic Chinese experience and the chefs didn't disappoint!
