Zuzu - Review - Downtown - Nashville - The Infatuation

"Zuzu, an Asian fusion spot from Detroit, opened in Downtown near the Ascend Amphitheater. The Detroit location is known for its high-energy party atmosphere, and the two-story, 8,000-square-foot venue in Nashville plans to do the same. Helping the cause: a rotating roster of DJs, sparkling sake bombs, and a sushi bar featuring a three-tier tower of sashimi and nigiri. We haven’t been here yet, but want you to know this spot exists." - Jackie Gutierrez-Jones

What Is Experience Zuzu? Here’s What We Know. | Eater Nashville

"I expect Experience Zuzu to feel less like the pre-party and more like the party itself: the Detroit-based experiential restaurant will open in fall or winter in Nashville’s former Green Pheasant space at 215 1st Avenue South and, at about 9,800 square feet—roughly 40% larger than the Detroit location—aims to be a high-energy, Miami- and Las Vegas-inspired destination. Keeping an air of mystery, founder Zaid Elia calls the concept 'experiences' rather than a club or restaurant; he’s expanded the kitchen to serve more customers and plans over-the-top theatrics by New York–based iCrave, with emerald green booths, vampy red accents, warm stone countertops and a massive oval bar anchoring the main room. Upstairs will be a high-end cocktail lounge that hosts a DJ into the night or can function as a private event space. The menu blends Asian flavors rather than being strictly Japanese, with sushi and sashimi alongside tomahawk steaks, A5 wagyu, Thai branzino, wok-fried dishes and starters Elia praises—tempura fries and Golden Wagyu croquettes. Cocktails lean on Asian flavors and showmanship, exemplified by the Big and Bold 11 Not a 10 served in a two-and-a-half ounce gold flask you can take home. Initially the kitchen will be run by the Detroit team while a local crew ramps up, and Elia is banking on Nashville’s growth and events like the Country Music Awards and the Grand Prix to draw steady crowds." - Jackie Gutierrez-Jones

We were really looking forward to dining here. The dumplings, shrimp and sea bass were very good. We ordered lamb chops that were brought out (on table grill) cold. We sent them back (which I cannot remember us ever doing anywhere else). The bartender gal acted like we were bothering her. There were only three tables occupied in the whole place. They brought the same dish out that had been reheated. They were just ‘okay’. There was no apology or any type of reimbursement- which is fine, but it should’ve been at least offered. We won’t be going back. There are many other places to go to in Nashville. Photos attached minus the lamb chops.

The food, service, and ambiance was nice. The beef rib was delicious. My wife had the table side fried rice and she enjoyed it. The atmosphere give vampire vibes jk. Low lighting and chill music. Our cocktails we're good. Overall my wife and I had fun experience. Definitely would do it again.

Phenomenal experience! Highly recommend….the food and service is immaculate! Our server was Lotus and she was extremely knowledgeable and all her recommendations were very helpful. When I tell you, I can’t wait to come back and try out additional entrées. Everything was just cooked to perfection. I literally had a food orgasm. I appreciate lotus’s knowledge, she made our experience very special and memorable. Also, the manager who was on staff tonight was named Quentin and he fantastic and accommodating. I can’t wait to come back to try out the rest of the menu.

Huge fan of Fred at the bar! My cocktails were delightful and so good! He also had great recommendations for the food menu and was a great listener. Beautiful space and looks like it’ll be fun on the weekends with the DJ and lounge upstairs.

Exciting new restaurant in downtown Nashville! Next door to Hampton Social, this is an Asian Fusion restaurant bringing big flavors, an upbeat atmosphere, and a twist on your favorite dishes. Let's start with the atmosphere, upbeat, detailed, elegant. There's is a cocktail lounge upstairs and outdoor seating. The staff is amazing! Our server, Brock, did an amazing job and was quick to serve and very friendly. The manager, Amanda, went by all the tables. Greeted and chatted with them, showcasing the restaurant and the menu. Great job! The menu, I didn't add any photos as it was a special menu for the soft opening. The drinks were great! The smoked Sakura was by far my favorite. We ordered a large amount of food. Shareables were the fries, edamame, and beef tartar. It's all very tasty. We ordered the chicken katsu, which was very crispy and juicy. The ribeye, which had a very unique taste with Asian inspired marinade, sweet and salty, very good. The lamb, which was burting with flavor. The miso seabass was our favorite entree, very good. They do have sides, though we didn't get any. The best thing we ordered was the sushi! Very fresh, good ratio of fish to rice, I would highly recommend! Overall, this is a great addition to the Nashville restaurant scene, and you should give it a try! I'll be back, thats forsure!

Google
This restaurant was truly an experience, the only reason why I selected 4 stars is because where we were seated… ugh no signal, they stored extra chairs and restaurant items back there. It was so close to our table. Maggie was an amazing server, she was the highlight of my night🫶🏾! The food was good and the drinks were great!

I was so excited to try ZuZu Nashville. From their Instagram and website, this place looked like it was going to be the next hottest restaurant in town. We went on Monday, just three days after their grand opening on 7/18/25, but unfortunately our experience was a bit of a letdown. Their website listed happy hour from 4-6pm, but when we arrived, they told us they don’t have that set up yet. I ordered cocktail #6 from their menu, but they said they were only serving cocktails #1-4 that night. We ordered walnut honey shrimp, short rib, seared sea bass, and a spicy tuna roll. About 15 minutes later, they told us they were having issues with their fryer. Another 10 minutes after that, the chef came out to apologize and offered to bring out a few dishes on the house. Unfortunately, the fryer never worked while we were there so we didn’t get the shrimp. The short rib Peking style was tender, but I didn’t like the pancake it came with – it felt like stale tortillas. The seared sea bass was slightly overcooked. My mother-in-law liked the spicy tuna roll. They also brought us a vegan sushi roll, seaweed salad, and sautéed eggplant. The vegan sushi roll was surprisingly good, the seaweed salad was just okay, and the eggplant was too saucy for my taste. Parking is valet only and costs $20. Overall, the food was good but not great. I hope they work out these early kinks because it’s a tough business, but honestly, I would be hard-pressed to give this restaurant another go.

Google
Love the food. Espresso Martini & a sushi roll I have a photo of in the reviews. The menu on their website is missing their sushi menu. Martini was AMAZING. I WANT A GIRLS NIGHT HERE. Also great for bachelorette parties! They had their own DJ, she was great. 10/10 selection in music it’s a vibe. Keep in mind this restaurant just opened a few weeks ago. They are killing it. I gave it a 4/5 stars because, it’s was loud loud in the front hard to have small talk if you’re on a date. It’s was super busy. They may have more seating, & we had reservations… their tables in the front are kinda close to one another. The bathrooms are perfff 4 or 5 stalls. I wouldn’t recommend as a first date idea…if you do. Go after 10pm🤣 🫶🏼

Yelp
My partner made reservations at this gorgeous new spot and wow--the place is stunning, with an upstairs lounge/bar. Service was outstanding--Lotus and Morgan went above and beyond. Oysters were small but packed a punch. Dumplings need work--chewy and missing that glossy look and juicy bite. Szechuan beef was good but wasn't memorable. The beef itself wasn't spicy, the peppers it was drowned in were. Duck rigatoni was cooked well but needed a little something extra--like chili oil or garlic/scallion oil to take it over the top. Valet was slow (+20 min) and understaffed. Overall, service, cocktails (try their Negronis) and atmosphere made the night special, but the food still has some growing to do for the price point. Oh, the truffle fries on the menu seemed out of place but I get the trend. Might as well add Karaage to pair with it ;) I see this location as a 5 star in the future. Give them a try!

Yelp
Most of our food was pretty good. Sushi and rolls tasted great, fresh great tasting yellowfin tuna. Beef tartar was dry and there was way more rice than beef. Cocktails were mid. Good enough presentation though. The rest of experience was ruined by how uncomfortably cold it was and topped with poor service. We were put on the second floor where air conditioning was blasting on max! We were all freezing!!! And it took forever to get our drinks. Had such high hopes for this place but left completely disappointed.

Yelp
Absolutely love our new neighbors! The ambiance is so beautiful and fun, very exiting addition to this fast growing downtown of Nashville. The bar is a great spot if you forgot to book a table, and hey, you are next to the mixologists shaking up so many good cocktails. Msy i recomend Right in the kisser, just so right on great as it sounds! Zen Forest was another of our favorites. Food wise I will say (like most other guests who have tried it) Do Not miss the honey walnut shrimp, it's delicious. The spicy Szechuan beef is absolutely amazing, perfect balance of the sweet and the spicy. Chicken Katsu Milanese is my personal favorite, who needs Nashville hot chicken when you can have this Korean pepper sauce goodness? The service has been excellent, even though i have visited just a few days into the opening so thats impressive. Well what are we waiting for, writing this just makes me want to go back again, see you there!

Yelp
Zuzu definitely brings something new and exciting to Nashville's dining scene with its gorgeous ambiance. The stunning design to the lively energy, it feels like the kind of place you'd find in a bigger city. There is an upstairs club area that adds a fun, exclusive vibe (though it's very small). The food overall was pretty mid and most dishes didn't leave a lasting impression, though the fried rice was solid and definitely the highlight of the night. The service was friendly and upbeat, but there were some forgetful moments. It was opening night, though, so I'm sure they're still working out the kinks. If you're looking for a spot that's all about the vibe and aesthetics, Zuzu delivers. For the food, I'd say it's more about the experience than the flavors.

Yelp
We loved the food here and the ambiance was great! The price was also reasonable (at the happy hour!!) only down side was the parking but if you're doing a date night for a special day or something I guess it's worth spending $20 for a ballet. Not sure if it's worth it to go here for non-happy hour as far as price is concerned tho.

Yelp
Last night I started my birthday weekend at ZuZu and it was amazing. First the restaurant is beautiful!!!! Everything is perfection. Second the staff is super friendly. Our waitress was attentive, helpful, charming and made sure we had an amazing experience. The restaurant is new and I appreciate them asking for feedback on what could be changed. Overall I highly recommend trying this spot.

Yelp
I would definitely say give this place a try. It wasn't my favorite. The food and ambiance were good. Service was.The par parking is terrible, it's valet or the parking garage. We went for happy hour and you can only order off that specific menu if you do so which I didn't like.

Yelp
Let me start by saying this place is beautifully designed! It's an incredible Miami/LA or just big city type of vibe that Nashville has been lacking. The lighting, to the lime washed walls and even the moody bathrooms. It was just perfect! The service was top notch. We were seated quickly and everything we ordered, came out pretty fast. Everything was made sharable, which is perfect because we like to try a bit of everything. We started with the Walnut Shrimp. It was delicious and made perfect. The Yellowtail Sashimi was great and the Jalapeños on it were a good heat. We also got the Toro roll and Hamachi Jalapeño roll. We were not impressed with the Toro roll. Toro is perfect raw, but it was seared on this roll and nobody at the table really liked that. But the Hamachi Jalapeño roll was soo good, that we ordered another one! For our main courses, we got Wok- Friend Maine Lobster. It was bursting with flavor and cooked to perfection. The Peking BBQ Beef Rib came with crispy Mu Shu Pancakes, veggies and a bbq sauce. The tender rib with the crunchy pancake and bbq sauce paired very well together. The Sweet Soy Duck Rigatoni was a bit disappointing. The duck itself was great, but it felt like they just threw in the pasta after. So the pasta had no flavor and we ended up just picking at the duck and bok choy. Then we asked for a dessert menu. They only had cotton candy. Which was awfully disappointing. They just hired a pastry chef and they were still curating a dessert menu. I don't drink alcohol so that was my treat I was looking forward to. But speaking of alcohol, they only had 4 cocktails on the menu available because they didn't have all their bar ingredients yet. But everyone kept ordering the Yuzu Whisper. So that was a huge hit! The overall experience was terrific. It is honestly probably on my top favorites list. I'll definitely give it some time to get everything together and return to try their dessert and hopefully update my review with another star.

Yelp
I'm sure it's just pains of a new restaurant, but they definitely have some kinks to work out before I'd want to go back. Which sucks because the food was great. But we made reservations prior, and as I was parking, one of the hostesses asked my friend if we could just sit at the bar instead.... I fully understand if we were just walk-ins. 100% but the fact that online it says this restaurant is a full experience and the first experience we had was we don't have a table for you even though you reserved one is not a good move. And then it took forever to get waited on at the bar while we waited for our table to be ready. Once we moved to our table, it took forever for our waitress to finally come around. She did not fill up the water once. And when we were ready for another drink order, she failed to let us know ahead of time that the bar did not have half of the drink menu available at the time. The ambience is very loud and the tables have you sitting quite far apart which the seating arrangement is also weird in my opinion. The environment is cool and edgy and I'm sure will get there but again; for it advertising itself as a culinary experience. That is not the experience I had. I also ordered one of the cocktails they did have available and I asked the waitress. How does this drink taste with the Matcha and the jasmine because that's what it sounds like it is and it's not. It is a vodka drink with Jasmine & egg white in it and then they sprinkle Matcha on top . If that was said my friend probably would've gotten not drink without the Matcha but how it's advertised is it's all together, which is what intrigued me. Also, we scan the QR code when we left to validate our parking and it did not apply So for an "experience" it was just another overpriced restaurant in Nashville.

Darshell S.

Yelp
The bar and atmosphere is great! The sushi was also pretty good but everything else on the menu seems like an expensive experiment! Things that should be straight forward were very oddly prepared and presented overall. I honestly couldn't figure out what the "fusion" was. I'd go back only for a cocktail!

M M.

Yelp
Just wow. I don't usually leave reviews but this spot deserves one. We came in kind of on a whim and ended up having one of the best meals we've had in Nashville. The ambiance was literally perfect. The crab rangoon was the first thing we ordered. It's not just delicious, it's Instagram gold. Totally one of those dishes that makes your friends jealous when you post it. For my main, I got the duck noodles and they honestly stole the show. Perfect balance of spice and sweetness, the duck was super tender, and the noodles were cooked just right. The presentation was on point too. To top it all off, we finished with their cotton candy, which was such a fun way to end the night. Service was also a standout. Probably some of the best we've had in the city. Our server was friendly and attentive without hovering, and even the manager came by to chat with us. He asked where we were visiting from and gave us recommendations on food and drinks. We felt really taken care of. Overall, just an awesome experience from start to finish. Definitely one of those places you leave already planning your next visit.

Patty T.

Yelp
The cocktails, ambiance and service were amazing. The sushi, a little below average. Not the freshest fish, definitely overpriced for quality of the food. I ordered the yellowtail sashimi, beef tartar crispy rice and a tuna roll. Decent sushi but again, quality and flavor just didn't justify a $30 price for a roll. I didn't have any of their cooked entrees so I can't share any feedback on those items.

Yelp
Made a reservation here before seeing a show at Ascend. We arrived early to grab a happy hour drink & app at the bar before our seating. We ordered the truffle fries (at the recommendation of the bartender) and edamame. The edamame came out with a gray tint & were so overcooked that the beans & shells were mush. No salt or any flavor to them. Hard to mess up edamame in my opinion so this didn't set the night out on a good foot. The fries were okay but advertised as "truffle" flavored and didn't have an ounce of truffle aroma or taste. When I asked if it was potentially missing from the dish, I was told that they were still trying to balance how much to add to the dish. Both apps were comped and immediately removed from our seat. Once it was time to be seated for our reservation, our server was knowledgeable about the menu- making sure to mention that there were multiple changes to the menu that weren't reflected in any updated print. For a place about 2 months old, this was concerning. There were two people dining and we ordered a cocktail each and sushi roll for an appetizer. The hamachi jalapeño roll was very tasty! Sadly, it came out in about 20 minutes and was delivered AND eaten before our drinks ever arrived. No apology or acknowledgment of the delay. We asked for feedback on popular dishes and ended up ordering the shrimp curry noodles & the duck rigatoni. My shrimp was flavorless but the curry noodles had good flavor & texture (outside of the giant lump of noodles in the center of the bowl that were stuck together in an unpalatable conglomerate). The duck rigatoni was the star of the night. It's important to note the noodles were more of a wide, flat pappardelle style noodle but this was preferred to the rigatoni noodle to us. Noodle dishes were generous portions. My friend ended up ordering a second drink that took another 20 minutes to be delivered and was ultimately comped. The management appeared harsh & overbearing, seen interrupting our server at tables to provide feedback or ask questions. For such a great location and appealing menu, the "ZuZu Experience" was one I would fail to ever recommend.

Yelp
Very good! Staff was very knowledgeable and the food was fantastic. The vibes gave Miami and as a local of Nashville it was a great change of pace.

Ashley T.

Yelp
Horrible food, somehow they had incredibly slow service despite having more employees on the floor than patrons. The tables were so close together the waiters kept picking up the chairs and I even got a knife dropped on my foot. My husband ordered a mocktail for $14 that was mango juice on ice. Crispy rice was soggy - huge waste of money.

Star T.

Yelp
The atmosphere was nice. We were sat at an awkward table by a private room door, felt like we were in the way. We were introduced to our waiter Klinton. He was nice. He took our drink order and apps, but then weirdly another waiter came and said he was our waiter (David). He did not notice we already had drinks, and said he would bring our drinks? We ordered the Shrimp & Lotus Gyoza, and Crispy Beef rice. Really good. The Salmon Avocado Crudo...was not good...We had to cut the avocado up and it was slippery and almost flew across the table. It was served with cherry tomatoes and a sauce that did not add anything to the flavor of the fish. The man that brought our meals did not know who had what and almost left the table with our main dishes, until I stopped him. However, the Shino steak was like butter...delicious! The shrimp noodle curry was fantastic! The Toro Hamachi sushi, and Hamachi Jalapeño sushi were delicious as well. Overall not bad, did not appreciate the gnats flying around or the one that was swimming in my soy sauce. It was a birthday dinner for my best friend and they did not do anything for birthday's apparently...even though a table over had a birthday and she was given cake and ice cream with a sparkler candle...hmm... The door man or bouncer was rude when we left. Needs more communication and to check on the table a bit more. Overall it was a decent meal, but probably won't be back. For the amount you pay, it should have been a better experience.

Kristina S.

Yelp
While visiting Nashville heard about a new place that had just opened. Went there on Sunday and experienced something completely different from the usual Nashville vibe. The ambiance was not what I expected. Every item we ordered that our server Devin suggested was superb. Be sure to stop by when in Nashville if your taste buds want to enjoy something different

Jennifer B.

Yelp
Service and ambiance were great. The drinks were great. The spicy Szechuan beef was not. Very chewy and the rice was hard.

John B.

Yelp
Great atmosphere! Excellent Service! Menu choices were interesting and the food was delicious!

Yelp
The ambiance at ZuZu's was fantastic and so was the service. Food was delicious, I will be returning and I have already recommended ZuZu's to my family and friends.

Ryan P.

Yelp
This was one of the best dinner experiences I've ever had in Nashville. The atmosphere is amazing and inspiring. Everything we ordered came out quickly and was delicious. Def top 5 steaks I've ever had. Plus the location is absolutely ideal for a fun night out. Highly recommend.

Nicole M.

Yelp
I was so hopeful this place was gonna be amazing! Far from sadly. Service was awful. The waiter had no idea who ordered what. It was a mess every time drinks/ apps/ food came out. It would take over 20 minutes to get each new drink anyone ordered. And they never mentioned about not being able to divide checks. (Will only divide it 4 ways). The atmosphere was wonderful and the lights were very cool! Food & drinks were mid. There was a group there for a bachelor party who made a resveration who had been waiting over an hour past their reservation time so it was just really sad to see that. Open minded to going back again because it's a gorgeous place but probably will go back for drinks during a week day

Sam K.

Yelp
Our Server Brian was attentive and great throughout the whole night. Atmosphere and energy was good. Food was Delicious. However, the management upfront needs work with managing tables and taking reservations 90% of the time they were confused the whole night. Other than that we had a great time.

D K.

Yelp
Another embarrassingly ridiculous insta restaurant with Vegas-like aspirations. It's a pity, because this space is deserving of a more fitting experience geared towards a clientele that the operator does not take for rubes. The food is of course mediocre and unremarkable. All in all a touristy cash grab.

Holly W.

Yelp
I want to love this place so bad. Ambiance was great. Food was TERRIBLE. Bland and no flavor. A crappy Chinese place has better food. come for a cocktail and don't order food! Service was also subpar!

Jacob C.

Yelp
Wanted to love this place. Decor and ambiance was the first positive. Upon walking in for our 730pm reservation, we were told that table was not ready yet. This was fine as 2 of our guests hit a little traffic and we're 5 minutes behind. We were seated just as the late members of our party arrived. Then it went down hill. Some of the menus advertised certain signature cocktails with vodka. Some menus had same cocktails listed with gin or mezcal. We were not given enough menus for amount of guests at table. Awkwardly tall Champagne flute stemware placed at every seat. No waiter for some time. Waiter appeared and took drink order which was given all at once. We ordered 6 Sake Bombs as well as individual cocktails (which we had to verify ingredients due to menus listing same drinks with different base liquors), glasses of wine, and a Sprite for the child at the table. At the 40 minute mark, an employee asked if we needed refills on our waters but we hadn't even received first waters yet. Drinks including the Sprite took over an hour. Before any food hit the table we called over a manager and explained that there were timing issues and he responded by saying 4 staff members called out and one fainted which seemed like too much information to give us, especially without an apology. He should have been filling our waters before the 40 minute mark if he didn't have enough staff to run the business. Server was nice and gave good effort, but did not know the menu well enough to answer simple questions about signature dishes. Manager never came back to ensure that everything was okay. And there continued to be disjointed timing issues with the food and additional cocktails ordered. Food was okay but not great. Appetizers were better than entrées and sushi was not very good. To top it off, we split our $1270 bill 3 ways and my bank account shows I was charged double. I hope that's just a processing error and will contact the restaurant in the morning to rectify but still affects my bank account while erroneous charge is processing and leaves me with a worse taste in my mouth after all of the service pitfalls leading up to this. I'm sure this restaurant will succeed because of location and atmosphere alone and won't need my business. But I won't be back.
