Zuzu - Review - Downtown - Nashville - The Infatuation

"Zuzu, an Asian fusion spot from Detroit, opened in Downtown near the Ascend Amphitheater. The Detroit location is known for its high-energy party atmosphere, and the two-story, 8,000-square-foot venue in Nashville plans to do the same. Helping the cause: a rotating roster of DJs, sparkling sake bombs, and a sushi bar featuring a three-tier tower of sashimi and nigiri. We haven’t been here yet, but want you to know this spot exists." - Jackie Gutierrez-Jones

What Is Experience Zuzu? Here’s What We Know. | Eater Nashville

"I expect Experience Zuzu to feel less like the pre-party and more like the party itself: the Detroit-based experiential restaurant will open in fall or winter in Nashville’s former Green Pheasant space at 215 1st Avenue South and, at about 9,800 square feet—roughly 40% larger than the Detroit location—aims to be a high-energy, Miami- and Las Vegas-inspired destination. Keeping an air of mystery, founder Zaid Elia calls the concept 'experiences' rather than a club or restaurant; he’s expanded the kitchen to serve more customers and plans over-the-top theatrics by New York–based iCrave, with emerald green booths, vampy red accents, warm stone countertops and a massive oval bar anchoring the main room. Upstairs will be a high-end cocktail lounge that hosts a DJ into the night or can function as a private event space. The menu blends Asian flavors rather than being strictly Japanese, with sushi and sashimi alongside tomahawk steaks, A5 wagyu, Thai branzino, wok-fried dishes and starters Elia praises—tempura fries and Golden Wagyu croquettes. Cocktails lean on Asian flavors and showmanship, exemplified by the Big and Bold 11 Not a 10 served in a two-and-a-half ounce gold flask you can take home. Initially the kitchen will be run by the Detroit team while a local crew ramps up, and Elia is banking on Nashville’s growth and events like the Country Music Awards and the Grand Prix to draw steady crowds." - Jackie Gutierrez-Jones

We were really looking forward to dining here. The dumplings, shrimp and sea bass were very good. We ordered lamb chops that were brought out (on table grill) cold. We sent them back (which I cannot remember us ever doing anywhere else). The bartender gal acted like we were bothering her. There were only three tables occupied in the whole place. They brought the same dish out that had been reheated. They were just ‘okay’. There was no apology or any type of reimbursement- which is fine, but it should’ve been at least offered. We won’t be going back. There are many other places to go to in Nashville. Photos attached minus the lamb chops.

We really enjoyed our dinner at the bar. The food is delicious. Excellent service by the super friendly bartender Max, such a great guy. He gave us lots of nice recommendations for Nashville. The happy hour menu is excellent, and a great deal. We will definitely be back next time when in Nashville.

I had an amazing experience at Zuzu Nashville! The ambiance was beautiful and romantic, making it perfect for a date night. The DJ set the tone with subtle music that wasn’t too loud, so I could actually talk and enjoy my conversation. The food was excellent — the table-side fried rice was such a cool experience and tasted incredible. Everything we ordered was fresh and flavorful. My girlfriend tried a cocktail, and it was really good (even though I stuck with non-alcoholic options this time). We went around 8pm for dinner, but I’ll definitely be going back during the day to check out the lunch vibes. From start to finish, it was a great evening. Highly recommend Zuzu if you’re looking for great food, a chill vibe, and a touch of romance in Nashville!

Phenomenal experience! Highly recommend….the food and service is immaculate! Our server was Lotus and she was extremely knowledgeable and all her recommendations were very helpful. When I tell you, I can’t wait to come back and try out additional entrées. Everything was just cooked to perfection. I literally had a food orgasm. I appreciate lotus’s knowledge, she made our experience very special and memorable. Also, the manager who was on staff tonight was named Quentin and he fantastic and accommodating. I can’t wait to come back to try out the rest of the menu.

Huge fan of Fred at the bar! My cocktails were delightful and so good! He also had great recommendations for the food menu and was a great listener. Beautiful space and looks like it’ll be fun on the weekends with the DJ and lounge upstairs.

Exciting new restaurant in downtown Nashville! Next door to Hampton Social, this is an Asian Fusion restaurant bringing big flavors, an upbeat atmosphere, and a twist on your favorite dishes. Let's start with the atmosphere, upbeat, detailed, elegant. There's is a cocktail lounge upstairs and outdoor seating. The staff is amazing! Our server, Brock, did an amazing job and was quick to serve and very friendly. The manager, Amanda, went by all the tables. Greeted and chatted with them, showcasing the restaurant and the menu. Great job! The menu, I didn't add any photos as it was a special menu for the soft opening. The drinks were great! The smoked Sakura was by far my favorite. We ordered a large amount of food. Shareables were the fries, edamame, and beef tartar. It's all very tasty. We ordered the chicken katsu, which was very crispy and juicy. The ribeye, which had a very unique taste with Asian inspired marinade, sweet and salty, very good. The lamb, which was burting with flavor. The miso seabass was our favorite entree, very good. They do have sides, though we didn't get any. The best thing we ordered was the sushi! Very fresh, good ratio of fish to rice, I would highly recommend! Overall, this is a great addition to the Nashville restaurant scene, and you should give it a try! I'll be back, thats forsure!

This restaurant was truly an experience, the only reason why I selected 4 stars is because where we were seated… ugh no signal, they stored extra chairs and restaurant items back there. It was so close to our table. Maggie was an amazing server, she was the highlight of my night🫶🏾! The food was good and the drinks were great!

I was so excited to try ZuZu Nashville. From their Instagram and website, this place looked like it was going to be the next hottest restaurant in town. We went on Monday, just three days after their grand opening on 7/18/25, but unfortunately our experience was a bit of a letdown. Their website listed happy hour from 4-6pm, but when we arrived, they told us they don’t have that set up yet. I ordered cocktail #6 from their menu, but they said they were only serving cocktails #1-4 that night. We ordered walnut honey shrimp, short rib, seared sea bass, and a spicy tuna roll. About 15 minutes later, they told us they were having issues with their fryer. Another 10 minutes after that, the chef came out to apologize and offered to bring out a few dishes on the house. Unfortunately, the fryer never worked while we were there so we didn’t get the shrimp. The short rib Peking style was tender, but I didn’t like the pancake it came with – it felt like stale tortillas. The seared sea bass was slightly overcooked. My mother-in-law liked the spicy tuna roll. They also brought us a vegan sushi roll, seaweed salad, and sautéed eggplant. The vegan sushi roll was surprisingly good, the seaweed salad was just okay, and the eggplant was too saucy for my taste. Parking is valet only and costs $20. Overall, the food was good but not great. I hope they work out these early kinks because it’s a tough business, but honestly, I would be hard-pressed to give this restaurant another go.

Yelp
Absolutely love our new neighbors! The ambiance is so beautiful and fun, very exiting addition to this fast growing downtown of Nashville. The bar is a great spot if you forgot to book a table, and hey, you are next to the mixologists shaking up so many good cocktails. Msy i recomend Right in the kisser, just so right on great as it sounds! Zen Forest was another of our favorites. Food wise I will say (like most other guests who have tried it) Do Not miss the honey walnut shrimp, it's delicious. The spicy Szechuan beef is absolutely amazing, perfect balance of the sweet and the spicy. Chicken Katsu Milanese is my personal favorite, who needs Nashville hot chicken when you can have this Korean pepper sauce goodness? The service has been excellent, even though i have visited just a few days into the opening so thats impressive. Well what are we waiting for, writing this just makes me want to go back again, see you there!

Yelp
Let me start by saying this place is beautifully designed! It's an incredible Miami/LA or just big city type of vibe that Nashville has been lacking. The lighting, to the lime washed walls and even the moody bathrooms. It was just perfect! The service was top notch. We were seated quickly and everything we ordered, came out pretty fast. Everything was made sharable, which is perfect because we like to try a bit of everything. We started with the Walnut Shrimp. It was delicious and made perfect. The Yellowtail Sashimi was great and the Jalapeños on it were a good heat. We also got the Toro roll and Hamachi Jalapeño roll. We were not impressed with the Toro roll. Toro is perfect raw, but it was seared on this roll and nobody at the table really liked that. But the Hamachi Jalapeño roll was soo good, that we ordered another one! For our main courses, we got Wok- Friend Maine Lobster. It was bursting with flavor and cooked to perfection. The Peking BBQ Beef Rib came with crispy Mu Shu Pancakes, veggies and a bbq sauce. The tender rib with the crunchy pancake and bbq sauce paired very well together. The Sweet Soy Duck Rigatoni was a bit disappointing. The duck itself was great, but it felt like they just threw in the pasta after. So the pasta had no flavor and we ended up just picking at the duck and bok choy. Then we asked for a dessert menu. They only had cotton candy. Which was awfully disappointing. They just hired a pastry chef and they were still curating a dessert menu. I don't drink alcohol so that was my treat I was looking forward to. But speaking of alcohol, they only had 4 cocktails on the menu available because they didn't have all their bar ingredients yet. But everyone kept ordering the Yuzu Whisper. So that was a huge hit! The overall experience was terrific. It is honestly probably on my top favorites list. I'll definitely give it some time to get everything together and return to try their dessert and hopefully update my review with another star.

Yelp
I'm sure it's just pains of a new restaurant, but they definitely have some kinks to work out before I'd want to go back. Which sucks because the food was great. But we made reservations prior, and as I was parking, one of the hostesses asked my friend if we could just sit at the bar instead.... I fully understand if we were just walk-ins. 100% but the fact that online it says this restaurant is a full experience and the first experience we had was we don't have a table for you even though you reserved one is not a good move. And then it took forever to get waited on at the bar while we waited for our table to be ready. Once we moved to our table, it took forever for our waitress to finally come around. She did not fill up the water once. And when we were ready for another drink order, she failed to let us know ahead of time that the bar did not have half of the drink menu available at the time. The ambience is very loud and the tables have you sitting quite far apart which the seating arrangement is also weird in my opinion. The environment is cool and edgy and I'm sure will get there but again; for it advertising itself as a culinary experience. That is not the experience I had. I also ordered one of the cocktails they did have available and I asked the waitress. How does this drink taste with the Matcha and the jasmine because that's what it sounds like it is and it's not. It is a vodka drink with Jasmine & egg white in it and then they sprinkle Matcha on top . If that was said my friend probably would've gotten not drink without the Matcha but how it's advertised is it's all together, which is what intrigued me. Also, we scan the QR code when we left to validate our parking and it did not apply So for an "experience" it was just another overpriced restaurant in Nashville.

Yelp
Zuzu definitely brings something new and exciting to Nashville's dining scene with its gorgeous ambiance. The stunning design to the lively energy, it feels like the kind of place you'd find in a bigger city. There is an upstairs club area that adds a fun, exclusive vibe (though it's very small). The food overall was pretty mid and most dishes didn't leave a lasting impression, though the fried rice was solid and definitely the highlight of the night. The service was friendly and upbeat, but there were some forgetful moments. It was opening night, though, so I'm sure they're still working out the kinks. If you're looking for a spot that's all about the vibe and aesthetics, Zuzu delivers. For the food, I'd say it's more about the experience than the flavors.

Yelp
Last night I started my birthday weekend at ZuZu and it was amazing. First the restaurant is beautiful!!!! Everything is perfection. Second the staff is super friendly. Our waitress was attentive, helpful, charming and made sure we had an amazing experience. The restaurant is new and I appreciate them asking for feedback on what could be changed. Overall I highly recommend trying this spot.

Yelp
I want to love this place so bad. Ambiance was great. Food was TERRIBLE. Bland and no flavor. A crappy Chinese place has better food. come for a cocktail and don't order food! Service was also subpar!

Yelp
While visiting Nashville heard about a new place that had just opened. Went there on Sunday and experienced something completely different from the usual Nashville vibe. The ambiance was not what I expected. Every item we ordered that our server Devin suggested was superb. Be sure to stop by when in Nashville if your taste buds want to enjoy something different
