"Come June 27, Lodge at the Presidio will open as San Francisco’s closest hotel to the Golden Gate Bridge. The three-story building was constructed between 1895 and 1897 as military barracks on Infantry Row for the U.S. Army. The exterior has been entirely preserved, and the renovated interior will have historical elements and spectacular views of the bridge, Alcatraz, and the city skyline. The Lodge’s dining room will be located right where the soldiers’ mess hall once stood. Rendering courtesy of the Presidio Trust As a nod to the original floor plan, wallpaper distinguishes the new walls from the old, and contrasting woods on the lobby floor represent the 1897 floor plan. Along with the views, the 42 new guest rooms will have modern amenities and Presidio-inspired artwork and murals. Guests can enjoy a continental breakfast and evening wine and cheese reception in the dining room located in the old mess hall as well as teak rockers on the front porch and a back patio fire pit overlooking the bay. The Lodge at the Presidio will be the second hotel in the park; its 26-suite sister property, the Inn at the Presidio, opened in 2012. The Lodge’s rooms will have modern amenities and spectacular views. Rendering courtesy of the Presido Trust Centrally located in the 1,500-acre national park in San Francisco, the Lodge is next door to the Walt Disney Family Museum and just steps away from the visitor center and the transit center, where guests can take a free shuttle to access the Presidio’s 24 miles of hiking trails, 18-hole golf course, and many cafés and restaurants. The Lodge also overlooks the seven-acre lawn where Presidio Picnics are held every summer Sunday, welcoming a variety of international food trucks, kids’ cycling lessons, and free yoga. In the coming years, Infantry Row will be connected to the waterfront on Chrissy Field by walking paths designed by the creators of New York’s High Line as a part of the Tunnel Tops project anticipated to open in 2021. Room rates start at $275, and reservations for the summer are already available for booking." - Miranda Smith
