"At this charming all-day Los Angeles café, the decadent chocolate chess slice is anything but pie-like: delightfully fudgy and gooey with a shiny, crackly top and a filling more reminiscent of the boxed brownies of childhood than a traditional pie. A big dollop of unsweetened whipped cream is offered but, in the reviewer’s opinion, essentially mandatory. Pastry queen Nicole Rucker’s crust flakes into crisp, buttery shards like a well-made croissant rather than collapsing into a soggy, underbaked shell. The slice was so persuasive that the reviewer finished it and bought an entire pie to take home." - ByChristina Chaey
