"How did it strike you on arrival? It's a cozy, eclectic escape—the kind of true hidden gem in the middle of West Hollywood you'll want to keep to yourself. Walls are lined with art from the owner’s personal collection, including works by Miro, de Kooning, Rauschenberg, and Dalí. What’s the crowd like?Creatives and bohemian types who want the West Hollywood location without the scene. The good stuff: Tell us about the rooms. The apartment building-turned-hotel has 79 suites, each with either a wet bar, kitchenette, and/or separate living areas; most have working fireplaces. Our pick: Junior Suites, which have walk-out balconies that overlook Cynthia Street toward the hills. We’re craving some deep, restorative sleep. They got us?Suites come with custom Thermo-pedic and bamboo mattresses, and 618-thread-count sheets. How about the little things, like mini bar, or shower goodies. Any of that worth a mention? They're not for sale, but I was tempted to try to fit the hand-woven Turkish rugs in my suitcase. Please tell us the bathroom won’t let us down.Marble bathrooms with Le Labo amenities and signature bar soaps in a custom scent. Room service: Worth it?Don't miss the Hambourgeois ($24)—grass-fed beef, arugula, gypsy sauce, gruyère, onion jam, and mustard pickles, served on a vegan sesame bun. Guests can eat in the magical leafy garden on the roof, which is actually recognized as a hummingbird and butterfly sanctuary by the National Wildlife Federation. Anything stand out about other services and features? The rooftop—with its heated saltwater pool, romantic lounge seating, and fireplace—is the hotel's pièce de résistance. There's also a 24-hour gym, free yoga on Wednesday and Saturday mornings, and in-suite spa treatments. In the dramatic Butterfly Bar, kick back in one of the jewel-toned tufted wingback chairs and order one of the signature cocktails—a.k.a. “Spirited Love Potions”—made with ingredients sourced from farmer’s markets. Bottom line: Why are we choosing Petit Ermitage? For the relaxed vibe, rooftop, and the way it's decorated with artwork and antiques." - Brooke Porter Katz
