"Housed in a magnificently restored 19th-century Austro-Hungarian fort on its own small island at the entrance to the Bay of Kotor, I appreciated the dramatic barrel-vaulted spaces of the former cannon rooms and officers’ quarters softened by natural fabrics, warm brass, solid oak, and smooth curves. With just 32 rooms and suites, a small private beach, ramparts offering all-encompassing sea and mountain views, three outdoor pools around a central courtyard, and a serene natural-stone spa (plus a well-equipped gym and private trainer), the island is exceptional for tranquillity and wellness; I enjoyed dawn yoga on the Sun Deck and cocktails at the speakeasy-style Pinea before dining on freshly caught fish and Mediterranean classics at the Pool Deck or Sunset-facing Sun Deck restaurant." - Jonathan Wiggin
