"During an overcast-but-pleasant Fourth of July weekend, I sat on the rocky beach of an uninhabited islet off the coast of North Haven, Maine. Just offshore, the windjammer Angelique—our old-school schooner for the weekend—sat at anchor. We’d rowed ashore earlier, along with all the contents of our leave-no-trace beach lobster bake. Afterwards we’d pack it all up and row back out to spend a tranquil night onboard, with just the local wildlife chatter and the sounds of the boat gently creaking in the secluded cove competing with the conversation of the ship’s company."
