"Tucked into Bogotá’s colonial La Candelaria neighborhood, this cozy restaurant, dotted with wooden tables and vases of marigolds, is run by Caribbean-born Luz Dary Cogollo, known as Mamá Luz and celebrated from Netflix’s Street Food series. Emerging from a history of domestic violence, she began with a food stall at La Perseverancia market and won awards for her ajiaco, the city’s iconic chicken and potato soup, proudly noting that as a Black woman from the Caribbean she won the prize for best ajiaco. The restaurant channels her belief that cooking is a deeply healing process that can help mend the trauma and violence experienced by women in Colombia, turning her personal story into a warm, empowering dining experience." - Stephanie Rafanelli
