Anantara Palazzo Naiadi Rome Hotel

"Why book? Anantara Palazzo Naiadi Rome Hotel feels like a luxury retreat in the center of Rome, with soothing décor and a world-class spa, perfectly placed with views to the iconic Diocletian baths. Set the scene. Luxury Thai brand Anantara recently took over this property, formerly part of the NH hotel brand—and what a change they’ve made. Given Anantara’s status as a go-to retreat for upmarket travelers looking for local experiences and stories, it’s not surprising that their first Italian property attracts a similar clientele, decked out in comfortable clothes ideal for exploring—think designer brand polo shirts and Tods loafers. The backstory Anantara’s in the process of refurbishing the property to better reflect their ethos, transforming a historical building overlooking Rome’s Diocletian Baths into a palatial residence combining historical charm with modern décor. The rooms Plenty of rattan, glass lamps, and curated objets d’art make up the 232 rooms and suites which are spread across four floors, balancing Roman grandeur with Anantara’s signature sun-kissed sanctuary feel. Rooms come in different shapes and sizes, but the duplex suite with a separate living area and piazza view is our favorite. Bathrooms are decked out in floor-to-ceiling Travertine marble, with oversized rainshowers and hefty-sized Acqua di Parma shower gels, moisturisers and shampoos. We particularly enjoyed the welcome pastry and fresh flowers upon arrival. It’s not all play though – those traveling on business will appreciate the smartly-designed meeting rooms overlooking the Roman baths. Food and drink Anantara prides itself on its food and wine, and their Rome offering is no exception. Head to the Champagnerie cocktail bar by Piazza della Repubblica for a welcome aperitif, then book a table at INEO where Chef Heros de Agostinis serves Abruzzo and Eritrean cuisine, inspired by his own upbringing—but updated for 2024. His turbot, parsley roots, and black truffle dish is downright exceptional. For something a little more casual, the hotel’s rooftop restaurant, Seen By Olivier, serves Mediterranean-Brazilian fusion by the hotel pool, all within selfie-distance of Rome’s biggest sights. The neighborhood/area You don’t get much more central than Piazza della Repubblica, next to Rome’s Termini station and within walking distance of the Baths of Diocletian and Santa Maria degli Angeli. The service Friendly and eager to help. Ask about the Anantara Rome neighborhood experiences, which guide you through little known parts of the city, from Roman cooking classes in Campo dei Fiori to antiquing in Trastevere. Back at the hotel, romantics take note: Anantara’s ‘Dining by Design’ is a five-course dinner overlooking the Diocletian Bath ruins. Anything else we should know about? Don’t leave without experiencing Anantara’s signature spa treatments, inspired by the ancient Roman Baths. Pro-tip: stop by the rooftop plunge pool, with its Instagram-worthy views over Rome, before the crowds arrive." - Maresa Manara
