"First impression? The legendary Starlite, the jewel atop the Beacon Grand Hotel in San Francisco, has been reborn. This treasured institution has long been a sanctuary for celebrities, socialites, and storytellers since the Prohibition era. Although it recently got a facelift, its core is still intact—think Art Deco decor, glass chandeliers, a solid playlist, and a cocktail menu inspired by the city’s iconic features. How’s the crowd? There’s always an interesting crowd at Starlite. Known as a hotspot for storytellers for nearly a century, it gathers creative minds, visionaries, celebrities, and seasoned travelers, who come to unwind and mingle over a glass of something exquisite. It certainly feels like a melting pot of identities, so everyone is welcome. How are the drinks? This is a classic cocktail bar at its finest, with drinks designed by Trick Dog’s Scott Baird. It seeks to emulate the icons of San Francisco—just take the Cable Car Redux, which blends rum, blood orange, Chinese five spice, with a cinnamon and sugar rim, and arrives at the table in a coastal-scented fog. The options get raunchier from there, like the Porn Star Martini with a dash of vanilla. If there’s food, is it worth ordering something to eat? The extensive cocktail list might outshine the food, but the understated menu is nothing to scoff at. The bar menu is put together by Michelin-starred D.C. chef Johnny Spero, with something for every stage of a night out–from nibbles to comfort food. Start with the creamy grilled cheese, but the night might end with the hardy meatloaf sandwich smothered with smoked ketchup. Did the staff do you right? Picture the staff not just as servers and bartenders, but as wizards behind the curtain bringing out the magic that you find at your table. With a blend of professionalism dressed down in casual flair, they certainly make sure your experience is top-notch, but in a way that feels like you're being hosted by a dear friend. It’s a welcome balance; classy yet unpretentious. Wrap it up: what are we coming here for? Starlite isn't just about passing the time over a drink; it's about moments that stick with you long after the city's lights have dimmed. Come for the iconic crowd and the all-vinyl soundtrack, and stay to indulge in the cocktails and small plates with your closest friends. Take the elevator to the top, order a drink, and soak up the experience." - Jenna Scatena
