"If the Rainforest Café and Blue Bottle Coffee had a baby, it would look something like Plántate, a Lavapiés newcomer (opened in 2017) that's equal parts plant shop and third-wave café. You almost need a machete to clear a path to the counter, where English-speaking baristas pull terrific cappuccinos, macchiatos, and more from a sleek La Marzocco machine. There's usually something Kenyan in the coffee grinder; baristas might recommend a V60 pour-over, an espresso drink, or a classic filter coffee. While most third-wave cafés are austere, Nordic-influenced establishments with minimalist décor and steely baristas, Plántate has run in the opposite direction, festooning itself with a veritable jungle of house plants and serving top-notch coffee without an iota of pretentiousness. If you lived in Lavapiés, this would be your everyday coffee spot." - Benjamin Kemper
