This jewel box of a property offers 66 rooms right across the street from The Original Farmer's Market and The Grove, and a quick walk to Museum Row, which houses the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, the Peterson Automotive Museum, and the newly opened Academy Museum of Motion Pictures. Set the scene Located on an unassuming strip of Fairfax Boulevard, Short Stories is a fairy-tale urban oasis, with skylights flooding the lobby’s checkered marble flooring and Venetian plaster interiors with soft California sunshine. Outside, local nursery Rolling Greens furnished a living-wall-lined pool area, and there’s a Parisian bistro–style courtyard featuring terrazzo contrasted with stained woods and brass that's perfect for luxuriating over long lunches with friends. The backstory Housed in what was formerly the Farmers Daughter Hotel, Leo Grifka—also the owner of the charming Palihouse in Culver City—has given the property a classic L.A. facelift, complete with bright and airy interiors, and the ubiquitous potted greenery for plant parents to marvel at, as well as a restaurant by Peruvian American chef Ricardo Zarate. The rooms Junior Suites and Grand Studio Suites feature art from well-known local painter Kenton Nelson, custom-built oversized rounded armoires, Carrera marble tables, and custom-made Italian bath amenities. Should you find yourself looking for in-room entertainment outside of Netflix, there’s in-suite libraries stocked with Taschen books. Food and drink Most widely noted for his unique fusion of Peruvian and California cuisine, chef Ricardo Zarate oversees the cooking at the eponymous restaurant and craft cocktail bar, where he’s taking on pan-American cooking like kale caesars and flat breads, but there are naturally some Peruvian classics like market potatoes and ceviche on the menu, too. The neighborhood/area Centrally located in what’s considered Mid-City, Short Stories location makes it easy to access any part of Los Angeles from Downtown to Santa Monica in around 30 minutes (traffic permitting, of course). The service Just like the property itself, service is laid back and breezy. Though there’s no gym on property, they’re happy to point you in the direction of some of the local partners, and there are wellness offerings like yoga on some weekends, too." - Krista Simmons
