Wrigley Field, Chicago, U.S. - Performance Venues Review | Condé Nast Traveler

"Give us the big picture: What’s the vibe of the place, what’s it like? Iconic Wrigley Field is arguably one of Chicago's most storied landmarks, with millions of baseball fans flocking to the stadium just to get a photo in front of the iconic Wrigley Field Marquee (whether they’re rooting for the Cubs or not). The stadium anchors the Wrigleyville neighborhood, which has experienced a boon in development. A new outdoor plaza, luxury hotels, and an influx of restaurants/bars over the course of several years have boosted the area's cultural cachet. What kinds of events can we see here? During summer months, Wrigley Field is crammed with cheering Cubs fans, especially since the team’s 2016 World Series win. The venue also hosts events throughout the year, including Out at Wrigley, Pride Celebration, and Winterland at Gallagher Way (complete with an ice rink). And then, there are the concerts—when the Cubs are away, acts like Lady Gaga, Pearl Jam, and Jimmy Buffett take the stage, flooding the neighborhood with light and sound. How are the seats? There's not a bad seat in the house, whether you're among the 40,000 within the stadium or the lucky residents on a surrounding "Wrigley rooftop." And that's really saying something for a professional sports stadium in the United States. Good for kids? The park is incredibly kid-friendly; don't worry about finding a sitter. What if we aren't big baseball fans? Special programming—like the LGBT-oriented Out At Wrigley, winter ice skating rinks, and weekly farmer's market on the outdoor plaza—makes the park a draw for both baseball fans and non-sports folks. If we’re going to be in town, what—and who—do you think this is best for? The rowdy, convivial and energetic crowd that descends upon Wrigley is usually well-behaved and jovial. But you don't just have to be a Cubs fan to enjoy the area: New dining and drinking options, and the cool boutique Hotel Zachary, are bringing an elevated energy to Wrigleyville." - Antonio Basada
