"It may not look like much, but Barberini is exactly the kind of fully local spot we hunt down, and that can be so hard for visitors to find in a city like Rome. The interior more than makes up for its modesty outside, with a pleasant and unpretentious decoration that relies on lots of light hues, timber, and glass. There’s a gelato counter featuring home-made ice cream, and the deli's stocked with savory tartlets and maritozzo (cream-filled buns) or orecchiette pasta with roman broccoli and olives, depending on the time of day. Wines line the wall, and the cheery bar staff alternate between pulling beers, mixing cocktails, and pulling espressos. Expect your barmates to be mostly Roman, and stick to the classics: Campari spritzes, martinis on the rocks, negronis, local wines." - Maresa Manara
