"Opened ahead of schedule according to Facebook, the 10,000-square-foot downtown ping-pong venue Spin at 1511 6th Ave — co-founded by actress Susan Sarandon — planned a January 20 launch party with professional players and entertainment. The street-art-adorned space holds 12 Olympic-style ping-pong tables in a large common area, plus private lounges and a full-service restaurant and bar, and can accommodate up to 300 people; ping-pong offerings include tournaments, casual play, lessons, and parties. Original cocktails are named after ping-pong terms like the Lob and the Backspin, and the food menu features items such as a maitake mushroom bao, smoked salmon fritters, a short rib eggroll, Korean fried cauliflower, and flatbread pizzas like the Ballard Lox topped with smoked salmon. The space practically begs visitors to take selfies with large-scale street art, a bathtub filled with ping-pong balls, and a neon-pink “Confessional Booth.” Hours are Monday–Thursday 3 p.m. to 12 a.m., Friday–Saturday 12 p.m. to 2 a.m., and Sunday 12 p.m. to 10 p.m.; walk-in rates are $15 per half hour or $25 per hour off-peak and $29 per hour or $39 per hour peak." - Megan Hill
