"I'm looking forward to the new Breakfast Company opening tomorrow in the Gaslamp; it lands in a 3,148-square-foot space on J Street between Fifth and Sixth Avenue with a patio primed for downtown people-watching. Part of the Rise & Shine Restaurant Group from Breakfast Republic founder Johan Engman—who now runs nine Breakfast Republic locations and recently debuted the Breakfast Company concept in North Park as an alternative to his always-crowded University Avenue spot—the eatery will be open daily from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. Its distinct breakfast and brunch menu includes omelets, scrambles, waffles, pancakes and French toast, plus specialties such as a fried rice eggs Benedict with crispy ham and sambal hollandaise and chicken confit and grits with chicharron and rhubarb preserves; new additions include skirt steak and eggs, a California breakfast burrito, and a vegan breakfast sandwich with vegan 'egg' and soy chorizo. Drinks span a Dirty Beet Latte (espresso and beet juice), kombucha on tap, beer, sparkling wine, and a variety of fruit- and vegetable-juice–based cocktails, including a Bloody Mary garnished with bacon and deviled eggs." - Candice Woo
