"Offering house-made pastas, pizzas, and tiramisu, the new North Italia at 2112 Pennsylvania Avenue NW is scheduled to open tomorrow as the chain’s first D.C. location. The menu imports coast-to-coast favorites like beef carpaccio, meat and cheese boards, and chicken Parmesan, and guests at the candle-lit venue can watch kitchen staff make pasta through glass windows into an expansive open kitchen. I noticed a dark wood–lined bar accented with leafy plants in copper pots and vintage prints pouring 11 whites and 18 reds by the glass, terzo (8-ounce pour), or bottle, with servers in leather-strapped aprons recommending regional wine pairings (think Tuscan chianti with bolognese). Drinks include large-format cocktails, bubbly, sangria, lots of Kettle One vodka and apple-soaked Redemption bourbon, and a beer list led by Italy’s Peroni alongside local breweries. From Fox Restaurant Concepts (led by James Beard Award semifinalist Sam Fox), the space has an exposed white ceiling and Edison-bulb black sconces and will open with lunch, dinner, happy hour, and weekend brunch — lunch weekdays 11 a.m.–4 p.m., dinner from 4 p.m. (to 10 p.m. Sun–Wed, 11 p.m. Thu–Sat), happy hour Mon–Thu 3–6 p.m., and brunch weekends 10 a.m.–4 p.m. featuring lemon doughnuts, baked French toast drizzled in vanilla maple syrup, rib hash, and egg scrambles." - Tierney Plumb
