"Sitting right by Faneuil Hall in Boston’s historic Blackstone Block at 1 Union St., I visited a new two-story, nearly 8,000-square-foot restaurant that seats 180 and pays homage to William Blackstone and his white bull, Jupiter. Named for that local tale, the concept—led by owner Jeff Baird and described as a modern-day meeting place—promises “something for everyone,” from mid-day snacking to late-night dining. The spot features an eight-seat raw bar with oysters that change daily, skillet-served appetizers such as lollipop lamb chops, meatballs, roasted Brussels sprouts, and pan-seared scallops, and a mains menu built around several pizzas (including a particularly meaty pie topped with pepperoni, prosciutto, and salami), plus customizable pies, sandwiches, salads, and weekly-rotating entrees. Drinks include 24 beers on draft and cocktails presented in non-traditional vessels like antique teacups and champagne buckets; design elements come from At Absolute Zero Design along with antiquing by Jeff and Alissa Baird, and a portrait of William Blackstone is prominently displayed on the first floor. White Bull Tavern operates daily from 11 a.m. to 2 a.m., with late-night and weekend brunch menus planned to debut in the coming months." - Dana Hatic
