"Located at 1911 Broadway in Midtown, I found Velvet Taco Midtown — the Dallas-based mini-chain’s second Nashville location and its first stand-alone building in the city — offers a 2,393-square-foot industrial-style dining room with concrete floors, exposed ceilings, a hand-painted mural honoring native Nashville musicians, an oversized record mural outside, and an open-air patio ringed in vibrant neon. Don’t expect typical taqueria fare: the full menu of more than 20 globally inspired tacos includes cross-cultural twists like a chicken-and-waffle taco (try it Nashville hot), spicy chicken tikka tacos, and vegetarian-friendly paneer and falafel tacos, plus weekly limited-time WTF features (52 per year) — the first being a chicken cordon bleu taco through February 1 and future offerings including surf ’n’ turf, pork belly al pastor, and an Italian-sub–style taco. Sides range from a red-curry-and-coconut queso (with a traditional queso blanco option) to elotes and red velvet cake, and the Backdoor Chicken special is a $20 meal with a whole slow-roasted rotisserie chicken, tortillas, and sides; beverages include margaritas (including the Kick Ass Margarita), local and Mexican beer, and fruit-infused iced teas. The Midtown location also offers late-night hours (Sun–Wed 11 a.m.–midnight; Thu–Sat 11 a.m.–2 a.m.), catering services, and a new customer loyalty program called The Velvet Room." - Delia Jo Ramsey
