"Mexican comfort soups — enjoyed even on hot summer days — are packed with flavor at this family-friendly restaurant. Stop by any of the three locations (two in Chula Vista and one in City Heights) for menudo, pozole, or birria broth. Steaming hot red pozole is served with hominy and pork in a broth seasoned with onions, garlic, chiles, and other spices. The menudo is similar: a deeply spiced broth comes with hominy and pieces of tender, chewy beef tripe. Dress either soup with the rainbow assortment of toppings on the side — cilantro, chopped onion, sliced radishes, cabbage, and lots of lime. The waitlist is longer on weekends, but lines tend to move quickly for dine-in. Diners can also place an order over the phone." - Roxana Becerril
