The Biggest Wawa Ever Opens Friday in Old City With a Parade - Eater Philly
"Wawa, Philly’s favorite convenience store, is set to open its massive new location at 6th and Chestnut streets in Old City this Friday, December 14. The Wawa is the biggest one ever, filling up 11,500 square feet in the Public Ledger building. That’s more than 2,000 square feet bigger than the second-largest Wawa, located in Washington, D.C. Along with the size, the city’s newest Wawa stands out thanks to its sleeker style, with the company calling it a 'historic, one-of-a-kind store' back when the first details were revealed in April — which was about six months after rumors started circulating that a Wawa on Independence Mall was in the works. The Wawa — at 150 S. Independence Mall West, across from Independence Hall — includes seating, plants, and two indoor murals with the theme 'Philly Firsts,' created by Mural Arts and artists Keir Johnston and Willis Humphrey. Look for Mural Arts designs on the coffee cups as well, available only at this Wawa. To really embrace its historic district location, the Wawa will also have a Once Upon a Nation storytelling bench.
